Pixel Xl from Play Store...OTA - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Hi Guys
I have a PIXEL XL bought from play store 9to be used with my VZW sim)
I'm trying to read up before I do anything with kernel/root/OTA.
As I understand it, if you root the phone, it will not take an OTA, thus you have to sideload the images via fastboot.
I have been searching, and I found the android site that lists all the firmwares, but it doesn't differentiate between play store version or vzw version.
7.1.0 (NDE63H) Link 0c0ed502c19913c3a328eafe4e8142cbda1325be18a377e6e4122b486763e1c8

1) Is it safe to assume, the X is the latest, and the same file is to be used with both versions (play store and VZW) version?
2) Do you have to do incremental, or can you just flash the latest and greatest?
3) If I flash a kernel, then root, then flash an OTA, will I have to reflash the kernel and reroot?
Thanks in advance!

U = Europe
V = Everything else 9if you purchased yours from the play store....use this one...rather than the x version)
X = Verizon
they all have the same build date....
2. you can sideload or flash full....you will lose root either method.....backup your data just in case
3. cannot comment on this as i didn't flash another kernel....my assumption is that you will probably be better off flashing it again

OHHHH, so those are models! I thought they were firmware versions.
Ok, So How do I know if/when I need an OTA?
Thanks in advance!

someone can confirm for me....but following the same logic.......H=Europe, L=everything else but verizon.....P = Verizon
updates time varies by device....so i can't comment........fastest way to get a OTA is to side load the OTA version of the image.......

Latest firmware should be B116 - as far as I understand the Huawei firmware numbers.

I guess B115SP04 is just an improvement of B115, like CM10.1.3 for CM10.1. And B116 is a higher version with maybe additional functions, like CM10.2 instead of CM10.1.

The second one is for the T model P6, not the U06 model, the two aren't interchangeable on firmware. You can flash the European/International or Chinese ROMs onto the U model but if you look at the firmware version they both start with the correct U branding.
e.g.
First link - P6-U00_EmotionUI_1.6_V100R001C17B116SP01.zip - OK
Second link P6-T00_EmotionUI_1.6_V100R001C01B115SP02.zip - won't work on U06 model.

B116 and B111 are both stable - Huawei have gone for really strange version numbering. B111 is the international ROM (comes with Google apps, no Chinese apps), B116 is the Chinese version (still English text but no Google apps unless you add them yourself and a few Chinese apps). They should have gone for I000 for international ROM numbering and C000 for Chinese or something else logical in my opinion.
For what it's worth, I'm running B116SP01 as my daily driver with no complaints. Rooted, Chinese apps removed, Google apps restored. I had some problems when I installed it by running the update from within Android but none when reflashed using the forced recovery method.

None of the Chinese version ROMs have the Google framework - my post here lists the different version numbers and whether they're a Chinese or international release.
As long as you're rooted, it's pretty easy to get them up and running - I just backed them up from the most recent international install and restored them onto the Chinese version. If you do an upgrade from within a running international version to the Chinese one then it seems to carry your apps over anyway. I did have a few problems when I upgraded like this though and ended up doing a recovery wipe/restore to get everything behaving.
Make sure you have an .apk version of your root app manager of choice on your SD card ready to sideload after flashing then you can just restore the necessary google apps as a system app and get the Play store up and running and install everything else.

Here - it's in the Original Development section, not sure why. Personally, I found it buggy and went back to B116 - others may have had a better experience.

[Q] Which Google Play store version?

Hello,
I have the Chinese version (HTCCN) of this phone, and recently unlocked it. When it unlocked, many of the preloaded apps were wiped, including Google apps. I have since been downloading the .APK's, and attempting installs, but cannot seem to locate the correct Google Play Services app. I have tried -448, -440, -430, -438...
Any guidance would be appreciated.
I am also looking for that "S-off" for this phone.
THank you,
CHip
it's been moved to M9 Questions, but here it is a great write up how to install Google Play Store on a chinese phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/help/experience-regarding-installing-google-t3111090
If you still have AppMarket then you can instal this chinese app that downloads and install google apps
(I know you might want to stick with chinese rom for a reason, but also if you install my custom CleanSlate ROM + CleanSlate Additions, you can get the stock HTC world wide edition setup + google apps out of the box.)
Upgrade M+ to CleanSlate ROM ?
Thank you for your response and Guidance -
I am highly interested in upgrading AWAY from the Chinese ROM. If you could provide me with instructions and links such that I can install the CleanSlate ROM and CleanSlate Additions, I would be much appreciative!)..
Thank you,
Chip

Note: I do not know how to extract OTA file from the update, so hope someone could be able to help in sharing the OTA zip file with us.
Seems you are using VPN to receive the update. Which VPN are you using? What is your / the VPN location?
Which screen protector You use? Looks good, any specs or link? I'm in Germany, still no update for eu version.
Seems like only the Motorola employees are getting the update. above photos are familiar to me. Seen somewhere in Facebook page of Moto.

What network are you on?
The most important question, were you guys able to keep root, or install root after updating to Nougat? Thanks!
Yeah, with unlocked bootloader it's easy, just flash a zip in TWRP
Thank you Lonixlon, have you personally updated your X Force while having TWRP? I had a problem with installing OTA security patch as phone booted directly to TWRP. Do you know any workaround for that?
can anyone help this guy to share OTA file?
My idea, maybe stupid and wrong - Update arrives depending on the CID of the phone.
The version of the system says "retapac", which stands for "Retail Asia Pacific" - a retail version of the phone for Asia and the Pacific.
But I do not understand what is written in "On the phone" before upgrading to NUGA. Take on incomprehensible things, mismatches, in the version of Android, the Baseband version, the system version and the build number. In the build number is very old version of the system mpks24.78-8-12, in the version of the system is the latest version of the system with the upgrade to 6.0.1, but here the old version 6.0 and the old modem.
I have a lot of questions without answers ...

Well, may I express my opinion here too. I have an XT1581 Kinzie from China, it came with Lollipop 5.1.1. Workling perfect.
I go and update it to MM 6.0 using a Mexican or LKatin America rom, I keep the modem for the baseband from the Lollipop 5.1.1 Chinese rom, everything works almost better than before, not a single issue.
Now,m I tried to update it to Nougat 7 following the Google+ guide, a nightmare, although an enjoyable one!
First, I have only one sim working, no wif. Try anoth system, now I have two sims OK but still no wifi.
At the end, after many trials, I went back to my old MM 6.0 LAt rom, backed using TWRP, and the system is back to normal with everything working OK.
Did you ask me if I'm going to change? Nope, I'm happy the way things are, unless an official Nougat 7 ir 7.1.1 rom comes by, not loosing other time.
I agreemthere is a lot of confusion between the various roms and regions.
This news about the update and the video is very similar to the fake... Just why from such an ordinary case as an update do such a stupid circus?
not yet arrived in Indian version XT1580
neither for reteu.retfr
I have moto x play, is that mean android nougat not so far from us...??

Can anyone provide NPPS25.137-93-12 Firmware for XT1676?

The only place I found this firmware on was on paysites, and I'm not willing to pay god knows how much because I wanted to restore my phone to stock especially when I can flash a custom ROM for the time being, and please don't throw me to firmware.center, because I have checked and they don't have the firmware I need, and I guess I was fooled by a thread for the OTAs of NPPS25.137-93-2-5 (not hating on the guy who posted this, it was my fault). I tried searching for the firmware by its filename, and I couldn't find it on a website that didn't want some money out of me.

The only thing I could find was the OTA update
You would need to flash the previous firmware if its available and then OTA update to the latest version

I guess there is no difference except other than an extra letter, or that your phone is blacklisted from updates, I don't really know

Question RM 6 Pro: unable to switch to Global ROM V425 using official method

I'm trying to install the Global ROM V425 using the official method given on Nubia's website, but it's not working. If anyone can help me solve the problem, I'll be so grateful!
I downloaded V425 from the official download page and copied the NX669J-update.zip file to the root directory of the phone, then tried to do the update as follows:
Settings >> System Update >> ... >> Local update >> select the file >> Only install
After about 10 seconds, I got this error:
Upgrade package and the current phone version does not match, can not be updated, please check the current version is obtained from the official channel
I'm not sure what to do now, and having seen that error message I'm now afraid that if I try any other method for the update I might brick the phone, since I've already been warned that the software is not compatible.
The current software version is NX669J_CNCommon_V7.14 and when I checked for updates I got a message telling me the current version is the latest.
Phone info...
Model: NX669J-P
Red Magic OS: V4.5
Build number: NX669J_CNCommon_V7.14
Android version: 11
Hardware version: NX669J_V1AMB
Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!

UPDATE: I noticed that in the About Phone section the device name is "腾讯红魔游戏手机6Pro" which translates to "Tencent Red Magic Game Phone 6Pro".
Seems it might be the Tencent version of the phone. Could this be the reason I'm getting the error message? Is it possible to put the Global ROM on the Tencent version?
Hi,
I am originally using global version with the latest updated v4.25 rom since September and i think you are using the tencent set with CN rom installed on your device. Why would you change to global? Is it cooler with CN rom? I bet you will regret you will lose so many features that you can get on CN if you are migrating to the Global rom.
The main reason is that the phone's current ROM doesn't have Google apps/services
Is it possible to sideload Google apps onto this device with current ROM or the only way is to flash global ROM?

If i am not mistaken, you can download the PlayStore from apkpure website - https://m.apkpure.com/google-play-store/com.android.vending and start to use Google application afterwards once successfully installed on the CN rom device you are using.
Thanks a lot - maybe I have been overcomplicating this issue! Will check and see if j can get it installed

That's fine. But some Google apps will not working at all eg like Gmail or Google Duo (i am not very sure exactly) because it still recognise your device status. You may check one by one any Google apps downloaded from the PlayStore later
