SIM Locked T705 - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I've been meaning to root and change rom on my Galaxy Tab S 8.4'', it's been painfully slow, even more now that i have a OnePlus 3.
The thing is, it's sim locked to a carrier in my country (Portugal - MEO), i know i can just root it, flash TWRP, really easy.
The question is, can i just change rom? Will it unlock just by that? Will it bootloop forever?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I know to unlock the sim, i have to do something called "network unlock", but i was just wondering if i can change roms without doing that, i don't care if it stays sim locked, i don't want to change the sim, just the rom.
Edit2: Just to clarify, i don't care if the sim stays locked, i just want to change roms!

will updating to JB relock phone?

currently on ariel rom, with an unlocked att gs3. would like to restore device to stock and upgrade to JB to sell on ebay. will switching roms or upgrading android version cause me to lose carrier unlock?
Anyone?
Which method did you use to unlock the device? (For example, standard SIM unlock, dialer code/"ServiceMenu" method, etc)?
The phone was used on t mobile briefly but I couldn't stand edge speeds. I called att and they gave me a code to enter after inserting the t mobile sim card. When you turn the device on with another network sim card it automatically prompts you to "enter unlock code"
No. Switching roms or upgrading android version will NOT cause you to lose carrier unlock.

[Q] Factory Network Unlock Code

Quick Noob Question:
I have the network unlock code for my device. If I put another country's sim inside my phone, will the network unlock code menu pop up on a custom rom or do I need to be on stock rom?
Thanks

You'd never know until you actually try with a non-standard SIM, i.e. a SIM card from a network other than your current network and its core associates. Usually, you would need to be on a stock, or stock-based ROM, for the unlock code to work. I have, however, heard unverified reports of codes working even with custom ROMs. If you are on a custom ROM and the code doesn't work, you may need to revert to stock.

The box should pop on a custom ROM but there are no guaranty it will. If you wanna be on the safer side, test it with another carrier's simcard and unlock using your code (don't need another country's sim).
Unlocking is permanent so should work with any simcard after that.

updating to nf9 lose sim unlock?

I was wondering if anyone knew if I update the baseband to nf9 will I lose sim unlock? I just want to make sure before I do since I use att on a tmobile note 3. Thanks
Updating to NF9 or any other firmwares, roms, mods, themes
or basebands have nothing to do with sim unlock.
Once your sim is unlocked the only way it will be locked again
would be if you or someone else locks it again.
It has nothing to do with any upgrades....
Good luck!
You will not sim lock.
Tip
I turn mine off when upgrading since you reboot alot. I turn it back on when I done. Same for screen lock.

So, do I understand correctly that once I unlocked my phone with chainfire region lock which supposed to unlock SIM as well, my phone remains unlocked even after firmware update?
How about resetting NV? In other words does anybody know where SIM lock status is stored and what one should try to avoid to not disturb it?
The sim lock is tied to your sim card and you can change that by going settings, security, Sim card. The sim card lock protects your phone from being used unless the pin is entered.
Chain fire's region lock is totally different, it allows your phone to change carriers.
Sorry if I confused you. I was just stating when updating your phone you can turn off the security on your sim card and screen lock, so you don't have to enter them each time you reboot. Once your phone is stable reset the security on your sim card.
I think we're talking different SIM locks, I'm talking about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock , you're talking about SIM card lock menu, but I believe OP mean SIM lock as enforced by service provider to not use another network, otherwise the title of this thread makes no sense.

D855 Sim lock weird behavior

Hi all. I have G3 bought from my carrier it is on stock lolipop recieved over the OTA. Only thing I was messing with it is TWRP and root.. As I thought it is sim locked I put another carrier sim in it. It boots without asking me for sim unlock code but can not connect to network and not allow me to enter network settings to o it manually ( it is greyed out ). The other sim works fine in another unlocked android phone.
Someone have an idea what is going on??
I have no idea. Sorry man

I had my share of rooting and installing custom recoveries and ROM-s for a long time, so my current thought is, is it possible that it is just software locked somehow?
I never saw this before..
Solved the problem, it was built in the Rom provided by my carrier "Vip.rs" grab my hand on new Sim card of different carrier on Fulmics 3.1 and it is carrier free. Just to tell you, if more people in Serbia have the same problem.
