There is volume wake up feature and also you can wake your phone using adb commands

Fingerprint scanner can be used to unlock. I am still adjusting to using this phone which is new to me, but I am finding that I can shorten the amount of time till the screen is automatically locked, since it is so easy to unlock with a finger. Though I wish it had separate device lock and screen blank timers.
If you had a different launcher you might be able to take advantage of double tap to wake/sleep.

I like my device locked after pressing the Power button.
The screen goes off and I want my device locked.
Where in the prefs do I setup?
By default, every time you press the standby button, it is locked already. When you wake the device, you always have to do the downward swipe to unlock...
So, what's the problem?
If you mean the pattern code then it is a choice when you set the pattern up.....I think default is set to 3 mins.....change it to immediately.

Thats exactly what's not working. I push the power knob. And my device just wakes up.
I can't find any settings in the pattern preferences either. THAT'S my problem
Wohoo. Just found it in and undersection of cyanogen prefs.
I just noticed that while in pandora, the pandora app devs decided to throw the menu button on the main bar with the home/back/app list buttons. When my phone auto locks or i manually lock it, the menu button is on the lock screen and if i tap it, it unlocks. I use swipe unlock so not a huge deal for me, but i need to test with other methods like pattern and password.
Attached is screenshot.
[Edit] i tested it with all other unlock methods and the button doesnt work. It is still there on lock screen, but only unlocks the phone on swipe.
Feature of the os. All apps with the menu button down there do it, even the XDA app. Not a security issue, doesn't work when you actually have a security method set up.

How can I lock my phone if I decide to lock it, while the self-locking stuff is disabled?
I prefer to keep my phone unlocked. So I put a 30 minute timer to prevent the self-locking, and disable the option of "immediately lock when power button is pressed."
But if I get stopped by the police I want to lock the phone immediately. Any way to do that? Currently I'd have to hold the power button, and select restart or power off, then confirm it, and that can be awkward if you are running away.
Run faster than the police.

I never tested it that way to be certain. But I was using "Screen Off and Lock" on my last phone, because the power button was getting flaky. So I used the SO&L shortcut as a substitute power button to turn the phone off. Then I'd wake it up with the Home button.
I believe SO&L would lock it immediately, even if normally it would not lock right away if I had used the power button.
Maybe give it a shot?

If we answer this, could we be charged with assisting a felon?
Just kidding about anything nefarious, hope it brought some smiles?
But the point remains. If I want to lock the phone occasionally, but generally keep the phone unlocked, I don't see a way to do this on the phone without resorting to aftermarket apps?
I think vanilla Lollipop android has the option to lock the screen when you are on safe tether, but that's disabled for me on the G4.
If you are worried about the police searching your phone have it auto lock when you push the power button and have it lock on a short timeout.
Can I use fingerprint to unlock phone when it is in "swipe screen to unlock" status?
When the phone is password locked, I need to use fingerprint to unlock it, but when it was only turned off briefly, I have to swipe the screen to unlock it. This is annoying as you have to decide how to unlock the phone depending on its status. Can I set the phone up so that I can always use fingerprint to unlock even if it is in "swipe screen to unlock" status?
Not that I've seen. It's really frustrating because like you said, you have to check first 'can i swipe?' when you get used to using your fingerprint. I found it easiest to ALWAYS require fingerprint, as soon as the screen shuts off, it needs a fingerprint to bring it back. I've gotten used to just holding my finger over the home button when I press it to immediately unlock it. Might be your best bet as well.

That is probably the best work around so far. Thanks.
Coming from a Nexus 6P, I'm used to just touching the fingerprint reader to unlock. The Note 7 defaulted to needing the button pressed first and then the finger is scanned and I'm not seeing an option to change that - is it possible?
no it is not possible. you have to push the button on every Samsung phone with fingerprint reader as i know so far
You will have to either press the home button, or the lock button on the side.
Check out easy home for Samsung on the app store.
