Network problem data with my nexus 5x (exclamation mark) - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everyone i tried to search in the forum for anything similar but i didn't find anything!
i just got my nexus 5x and it seemed working fine till i saw the 4g data won't work, an exclamation point would always stick on it and wouldn't let connect, even though it says that there is 3g or 4g network
tried everything, changing firmware, rooting, unrooting, but nothing...

I believe that wrong APN is present on your handset. Rootin and unrooting won't give you results unless you define correct APN. Data icon shows that gprs attach is OK, however there are no gprs session active (no data flow). Ussually (80% of the time it is due to wrong apn). check your carriers site, or call them to ask for APN settings

I have reset the apn to default and its all the same, no improvement, I have input the mms settings again with no effect.... no its getting on my nerves now... am thinking of reseting the phone back to factory settings.....
I suggest you get new settings from here: http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-support/index?page=home&cat=SOFTWAREDOWNLOADS

thanks for that
tried it but they only had hd2 and touch 2 listed for phones under android...
So far i believed that hd2 and touch 2 phones are wm not android :? ??? strange...
are there any options for different android phones? hero, magic, etc... as they should work with desire
just go to the APN settings and press Menu>return to defaults. The settings are preprogrammed in for t-mobile UK, and they are definitely correct.
As for not being able to connect on 3G, that is a known t-mobile issue. When 3G is showing, it is supposed to change up to H when you try and send/receive data. sometimes, their network does not change up successfully, and you end up sitting on 3G with no data transfer.
turn mobile data off and back on again and that usually fixes it. There's three or four threads on that on the T-mobile website.
Now this is interesting ...
After I read your reply below, I think that issue is NOT only in the UK.
Because I use T-Mobile NL and I got exactly the same problem!!!
I am still using my HTC Kaiser though and I was (still) confused why I "suddenly" could not connect to the internet
I use Opera Mini, at first it was connected fine, browsed several websites and then suddenly dead on ... cannot connect.
Restart Opera Mini, same issue ... the connection still there.
Restart the data connection ... there you go, I was able to browse again.
Damn! I did not know that this is T-Mob issue I tried to clean my WM device, reinstall Opera and whatnot ....
Oh yeah, this issue just happened recently ... like a month or two months.
Before that, I have no problem like this.

Mobile Data Gone After Leaving the House

I mostly work from home and use my Wi-Fi there, but, about 50% percent of the time, when I leave the house I’ll have a cell signal, but no LTE or whatnot—mobile data doesn’t work. The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone—enabling/disabling Airplane mode doesn’t resolve the issue.
Anyone else have this problem? I found a similar thread at https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/3qyabc/no_mobile_data_after_leaving_home_and_loosing_wifi/, but I don’t have an account there and was curious to see the response form this forum. For what it’s worth, I use T-Mobile..
Someone mentioned forgetting their WiFi network and adding it again manually fixed the issue for them, did you try that?

No—I didn’t know that was a possible fix. I’ll give it a try and report back. Thanks.

No dice--issue still persists.
Did you try to reset network settings? There is an option to reset it in settings / backup and reset!

Having the same problem. I'll show full bars (but no LTE indicator) and every app complains of no connectivity. Enabling/disabling Airplane mode does work for me, but I have to wait about 30 seconds for the phone to re-register with the cell network (T-Mobile) to get my data working again.

When there is full signal and there is no LTE/4G indicator, then phone still thinks it is still connected to Wi-Fi. I have not had this issue...

While this might be true, there is no Wi-Fi icon/the phone does not appear to be connect to Wi-Fi when this issue occurs.
Resetting the network settings did resolve the issue—and I found out this was due to the APN protocol setting. Due to some SIP issues I was having, I changed this from the default IPv6 to IPv4 and, it appears, this caused this issue—though I have no idea why. Resetting causes IPv6 to be the default again and the issue doesn’t happen when this is the case (but I still have some SIP issues). I have since switched this to IPv4/IPv6 and I haven’t had the issue in a week—and this also resolves my SIP issues.
Hope this helps someone. Cheers.

Error- "Data connection not avaiable for voice calls"

Hey folks,
today I got a weird problem on my Z2. After i turned off airplane mode i wasnt able to recieve calls and SMS even tough datas connection worked fine and still does, when trying to call i get this message as in the title "data connection not avaible for voice calls". I'm pretty sure i didn't touch anything related to that lately so i tried with another SIM (same carrier) and i get the same problem. I'm unable to try on another device though but i think it's related to the phone or at least related to the carrier.
If anyone has experienced this already or has an idea about how to fix this please let me know!
Cheers

Do you have Advanced Calling turned on? As I understand it, that requires both a voice connection and data connection. Also, have you tried driving far enough that you would be connected to a different cell tower? It could be an issue of hardware failure at your local cell tower.

On the last couple of versions of Android, it has been in the upper part of the settings page, where the various wireless settings are grouped. If you don't see it, and you have a "more settings" or "..." entry at the bottom of the wireless settings, click on that.

Unroot Pixel XL (With some hard questions) (With US Cellular Data Fix [YES LTE AGAIN!

Where do I even start... After updating to Android 0 I lost cellular data. After wasting 8 hours I figured out google nor US cellular were going to help me. The problem was IPv6 was failing. The phone is set up to use LTE. Switching network type to 3G does fix the problem, but that wasn't good enough for me. I wanted LTE. After reading about editing the build prop and APN; I started troubleshooting. Editing the build.prop does not solve the problem. It actually makes it worse. I don't know if it is a nesseseray step but it might be I rooted my phone. After that, I deleted the APN's and just re-typed it in. Boom. LTE. Problem fixed. All in all, just to figure this out it took me probably over 10 hours. (talking to people, no one at Google or us cellular was even remotely helpful). At least I learned more about cell phones as I am fairly noob. Anyways now that I have this fixed how can I unroot my phone and keep my APN settings?

If you're unlocked, you could backup everything you want to keep and install the latest Google software package using their posted directions exactly. After it boots, do a factory reset. When you boot up with the US Cellular sim, the APN info should populate without further issues. This would eliminate root and maybe take care of that connection issue. If phone is Locked, please disregard.
I fixed the connection info. If anyone is having this issue here is the solution. (APN info in this post) http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/topic/9253-o-dp2/?page=2

Connectivity issues

Hello,
I have the global version of the mi9SE and experiencing very annoying issues when trying to access certain websites OVER MOBILE NETWORK (WIFI works) which returns errors as per attached screen shots, reporting certain sites (banking particulary) as can't be found or offline.
I temporarily managed to fix the issue by changing APN settings from IPV6 to IPV4 as per a suggestion on the forum of my French network carrier. Unfortunately with the update to android 10 and MIUI 11 erased these settings and now 4g or 3g for that matter simply fails to connect over IPV4 setting after update so I’m back to square one which is immensly irritating.
I can’t work out if this is a carrier issue or a software bug. I’ve tried the following :
- Changing Sim to another phone. No problems there.
- Changing browser. Both chrome and edge are the same as well as the native browser.
- Contacting bank who tell me issue not unheard of but have no solution.
- Contacting my carrier who claim not to have an answer.
I haven’t tried another sim in the handset.
Help would be much appreciated.
Hi
I also use French carrier, bouygues, using android 10 miuimix, just tried ing website and it works fine through 4g.
Have you tried a different ROM? You should have a menu to erase connectivity data in settings may be it could help

Hi thanks for your reply. Vey strange, I too am on Bouygues network and ING website doesn't work for me.
However I must point out that it is the secure part of the website that doesn't work so logging into the "espace client" part of the account, the home page DOES work. Same for you or not ?
I don't understand how it can only be me experiencing this issue which I've had for months now despite doing a factory reset, formatting etc. I'm using the stock global rom OTA from Xiaomi. I surely shoudln't have to flash another rom to get a working phone. I take it Miuimix is a ROM you're using on the Mi9SE ? Just how stable and secure is it ?
tks
MY WIFI hotspot won't work either. It connects to the network but refuses to connect to the internet. No such problem when placing the same sim into another phone and setting up the same hotspot. Could this be a problem with my device hardware I wonder ? I haven't done anything in particular...but these issues weren't there when I first bought the device.
For Hotspot I guess it's related to Android 10 update...
Just tried the secure part of the ing website and indeed it doesn't work for me neither on 4g. But Hotspot works fine.

Great thanks so much for trying at least I know it isn't just and so can conclude an issue with MIUI and the phone. Strange how adjusting VPN settings to IPV4 used to work but now doesn't. I fear the issue is embedded into the OS and I'll probably never find a solution . Wouldn't be so bothered if this was the only site but it's not. I first thought it was just a problem with the websites, then realized it wasn't when the same sites worked over WIFI.
As for the WIFI hotspot issue, still no solution to this problem. The same sim is fine in my Motorola and connects to the internet perfectly over 5ghz band. If I try 5ghz band on the SE, windows simply reports "unable to connect to the network" and over the 2.4ghz the device network will connect but reports "no internet".
It doesn't sound as If the two issues are related from what you say. Is it possible it's the windows firewall blocking the Xiaomi but not the motorola ?
