Hi, is there any way to force a shut down, I have the google Pixel XL went to restart it as it couldnt find any wifi and now it stuck on powering off, tried holding power button, power button and volume etc, then it pops up power off or restart but the screen is unresponsive, hit power button again and comes pack up as Power off , Shutting down, being like that for 1 hour so far, i expect i will have to wait till it runs out of Battery??? Removal batteries are so much easier.......

so i notice HTC one x battery is not user replace-able. How do you force the phone to shut down in case the phone is freezing or whatever reason?
hold the power button for about 10 sec simulates a battery pull

I think you have to hold down VOL+, VOL- and POWER together to do that. Just tried it on my phone and it shut the phone down. Not sure if it works in situations where the phone is frozen though.
What Daan said, hold the power button until it shuts down (max 10sec)
thx, i haven't got my one x yet but this should be useful when my one x arrived.
with the power button (hold for 10sec) you can only force a restart on the hox!
but how can you make a shutdown only with hardware buttons?
for example: the display cracked and you want to power down your phone?
as far as i know, no chance to shut it down!

The closest you get is 'holding power + volume down' for around ten seconds. The system will reboot into the Booloader, where you can select power down.
fastboot oem powerdown (if you are interested)
note: you cant turn off the one X ,instead it runs the recovery in a low-power-hidden mode.

Just uncheck the fast boot option in settings and it will completely shut down, to force it just press power button + vol down

Fast boot mode already off, i thought my phone was off until I tried the adb commands on my "turned off" device. (it takes around 10 seconds to start hidden recovery mode)
Shutdown only with Hardwarebuttons. NO CHANCE !
good comments, but nobody had a really good answer for my question from post #6....
how do you shutdown the HOX, if you have no chance to access the touchscreen or see anything on the lcd?
the thing is, i got that problem, that i had an cracked display.
when i disassembled it to put in the new display, the HOX started up, because i accidentally pushed the power button...
how can i now shut it down, if it´s disassembled?
i tried, but with hardwarebuttons only, you have NO shutdown function at all....

Its Workin Thanks buddy i've tested it with Samsung A3 runnning Android 4.4.4 :good:
Used the search and Google but couldn't find anything comparable.
Somehow my Nexus 7 2013 (WiFi)'s touchscreen just died during traveling to work and I am not able to restart the device.
Is there any button combination to do this or any other way possible? I can turn on the device and the power on/off and volume buttons are working, but I cannot select e.g. shut down as the touchscreen is not responsive.
The device is not rooted or anything, just plain stock, newest firmware version.
any help appreciated!
Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds.
Eventually it'll first shut down, then as you keep pressing the power, it will turn back on.

ok, stupid me, could have thought about that myself as I did it before once already...thanks!
I have been having an issue with my Nexus where I have to hold in the power button for 15 seconds for it to turn on, where normally, I would just hold it in for about 3 seconds. Is there any reason it should not turn on when the power button is held down for just 3 seconds?

That might happen if Android doesn't completely shut down (so ~10 seconds of that would be forcing it to shut down, then start up again)

Hm, that's odd, because I did not shut it down. Could it have possibly shutdown on itself then? Not sure what you mean by "completely shut down".
I'm actually having the same problem except mine freezes and then I try to do a reboot by pressing the power button. The screen stays off until I press the power button for 10-15 seconds. I'm not sure if its the same thing though. Happened to me twice. I am running a custom kernel Elemental X.
Long story short, 1 month ago my Nexus 7 (2013) got water damaged, I immediately covered it in rice and left it for a couple of days, and after turning it back on, have a weird issue.
The power button will not work what so ever, I've tried holding it in for over 60 seconds, aswell as holding in the volume buttons along with the power button.
The only way to turn it on is to plug the nexus into the mains. I then get the white LED flashing 5 times, which I assume means it's charging up from a completely dead battery.
After about 20 minutes of charging, the google logo will pop up, stay on for 3-5 seconds, then the unit will reset itself (screen goes off, then back on to the google logo, and repeats like that).
However....If i hold in the volume down button, it'll boot up like normal, everything works fine, but take your finger off the volume button and it'll reset and only boot to the google logo. Holding volume up will take it too the boot loader.
The issue is that at no point, (in the bootloader or once its booted in to the OS) will the power button work whatsoever.
I first assumed that the button was broken, and stuck to the ON position, so ordered a new button cable (which includes the power button, volume up and down, aswell as the microphone) but this hasn't done anything.
Wondering if anyone had any thoughts?
Hi,
My Pixel 6 Pro screen went black, but I can still hear and feel that the phone is working. I used the volume up + power button to reboot it and now I touch the phone and I feel it vibrate as it's registering the touches. I also see at the bottom of the screen some white stripes flashing. It seems that the screen is damaged and I need a replacement screen.
Now my issue is that I can't seem to turn it off. As the screen is black, the only way to shut it down would be with hardware keys. But up until now, I haven't been able to figure out a way to turn the phone off.
Does anyone know how I can turn of the phone?
To replace the screen, obviously I need to turn it off first...
Usually long pressing the power button, but it may be different. As long as it gets fixed within a month or so it you can let it discharge until it auto shuts down. If more than a year old replacing the battery when repaired is a good idea anyway...
I tried long pressing the power button with no luck.
I tried volume down + power button for 20 seconds, didn't work either.
I tried volume up + power button for 20 seconds, this I think reboots the phone.

Power button only might take 20 or so seconds.
Otherwise just like it sit until repaired.
Power button + vol up + vol down. Keep holding down once you feel the phone vibrate. Takes you to the bootloader screen
The battery died.. so that's good!
Thanks anyways
