Daydream With a Case - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I'm not sure if anyone has had a chance to try yet, but is the daydream view headset fully functional if there is a case on your phone? I know the gear VR wouldn't work with a note 7 and a speck candyshell case.

But the Gear VR had to connect through the USB port to the Note, Daydream is all wireless so it should be fine. I don't have mine yet so I can't tell for sure

The phone sits in a tray/slot with a cover that closes over it. As long as your case isn't huge, it should be fine. I think the clasp that holds the cover shut is elastic to keep it tight. I have never used Samsung VR but doesn't it snap into a molded space on the front with the back of the phone exposed? I was kind of surprised Google has the entire phone covered on Daydream as it would only let you do VR instead of AR which the Samsung could do since the back camera is exposed and could be used.

The GearVR did have a clasp that wrapped around the body of the phone slightly. I went ahead and ordered the Speck Presidio case, so hopefully it isn't too big for VR. AR would be a really cool addition, but the pixel isn't equipped like the Tango devices are so I assume Google didn't want to blur the lines and make the Tango devices less desirable.

A thin case might work but the phone gets hot, so it's probably better without the case.

I'm using a spigen tough armor case, which isn't super thin and daydream VR worked great.. Though, as someone mentioned, the phone will get a bit hot and it's probably a better idea to go commando.

I've done a few sessions with the Google Live case on, no adverse affects etc. for more than 30 mins usage.

Supcase beetle works fine, and its not super thin. i max out at about 114f but its usually around 107f

Seidio Surface case with Kickstand

Here's a quick review of the Seidio Surface case with Kickstand:
I've always enjoyed having Seidio cases on my phones and I've had many. The surface of the case is just sticky enough to give you some grip but not so much that it picks up lint from your pocket.
It's a two piece case that slides over the phone from the top and bottom with the split being about 1/4 inch below the bottom of the volume rocker. All the cutouts are accurately placed and are big enough to give you full access. Case removal is easy if needed.
The edges of the case in the screen area line up with the edge of the bezel and the screen so you don't lose any screen area.
My one beef is with the kickstand. In the description it says it can be used both landscape and portrait. The kickstand spring is not able to hold up the phone in portrait orientation making it useless. In landscape it will hold up but the phone tends to rock quite a bit due to the curved edges.
Overall the case is on the expensive side compared to other offerings out there. (around $30 US) but the build quality is top notch (sans kickstand).
Gotta post pics, my man.

I just received a Surface case without the kickstand option. I figured I didn't need it as I got the matching holster. So far I'm pleased with the combo however the holster does block the top Moto X microphone limiting our "ok google now" functionality. I plan to let them know there needs to be a hole and will probably drill one in the holster myself.
The case itself is clearly overpriced, the holster seems well made and possibly justifies the price a little more other then missing a needed hole.
Kick Stand case for MOTO X
I am using this kick stand case for my MOTO X and its quite good one too but still I am wondering to order a Seido one as I have also used its cases in the past and they are pretty much better one to be considered for the phone protection so just wiling to get one....

I have the same case and enjoyed it on my GS3. However, like you said, the curvature of this phone causes the device to wobble on the kickstand in landscape mode. It doesn't bother me too much, but the wobble is definitely enough to be noticeable and cause some to find other protective options. (especially when you're gonna drop over $30)
I wanted to clear up though, that on Seidio's website it clearly states that the stand DOES NOT support portrait orientation. Here is the quote from their website with a link....
The built-in metal kickstand can be used in landscape orientation for a hands free experience when viewing multimedia, managing photo slideshows, and displaying clocks and calendars. ACTIVE® with Metal Kickstand does not support device in portrait orientation.

I purchased mine through the Android Central store. They still have it listed as landscape or portrait. I never did read the description from the Seidio store so that's where the confusion comes in.
http://www.shopandroid.com/seidio-surface-case-with-kickstand/4AA15163.htm
Best Buy also sells these cases under the platinum brand with kickstand and plain with holster. 35 and 40 respectively.
I recently purchased a Seidio kickstand combo case from ebay. Got the red one... hopefully I like it!
Right now I have one of those knockoff "Caseformer" combo cases, and I really don't like it. The edge the wraps around the side and front of the screen is too tall and it interferes with typing and some general usage of the phone. Hope that the Seidio isn't as thick!
Here's a link so you can see what I'm talking about: http://www.amazon.com/CASEFORMERS-A...=1383794004&sr=8-2&keywords=caseformer+moto+x
Got this case too. Always loved seidio. Had in my S3 and iPhone. Now got for my Moto X. But I am having a big problem with the case interfering with the cameras flash. The case does not lay flat to the camera. So when the flash goes off, it reflects back into the camera and photos becomes filled with flash. Got a replacement because I thought I had a defective case. Same problem with new one. Without case, no problem. Anyone has the problem? In light lit room, take a pic with flash on. THx.

Official flip cover - $20 shipped

I purchased one of these a week ago and came in today, it's the official AT&T / LG flip cover with wireless charging and NFC.
Came in today, in a plastic bag inside a padded envelope. Works great, feels great, definitely the real thing.
Don't mean to sound like an ad, it's not my listing, but I've seen people getting replacement back covers without Wireless charging for $30+shipping, so this at $20 is a steal!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360868957051
One question, if I hold the phone or sit the phone on the table, back side down, the front flip cover part doesn't stay all the way shut. The right side is about 1/4th inch up off the screen. The auto screen on/off still works but it'd be nice if the cover stayed "tight" on the screen. Though I understand there is no magnet or anything on the far side so it may not be possible, is it... possible?
" the front flip cover part doesn't stay all the way shut. "
That's probably why it was a RETURN aka REFURBISHED and why there was only one of it. Discounted.
I just bought 2 from the same seller (extra one by accident, hope this seller a4c will let me return it for refund. He didn't even responded to any of my email telling him to just send one). I want to know what do you think of this flip case overall, since you've been using it for a while by now. Does it protect the phone from accidental drops well? I'm thinking I'll have to bind the cover with a large rubber band or something to keep it from opening up when it drops. Right now I'm using am Abecus flip case. It works okay, but holding it in my hand is kind of awkward and tiring. I'm hoping to do better with this lg flip case.
Yeah I'm also searching for a nice smart case for the G Pro and would love your feedback
I just got mine today, and I must say,I'm kind of disappointed. This flip cover case offers no real protection to the phone what so ever. The cover itself may protect the screen from scratches in the pocket or bag, but I already have a screen protector for that. It's really just a lg e980 back cover with a screen cover flap attach to it. There is no protection to the four corners of the device if the phone falls. The battery most likely to come out if the fall is a hard one. The flap itself doesn't attach to anything, there isn't a magnet or a button to keep the flap close. The overall appearance of the phone with this case, is just like the original phone with a black plastic screen cover, but it does give a smart look. Earlier the op mentioned that the cover won't stay tight. On mine it works fine, may be it's not staying tight due to that the synthetic leather needs be worn before it will fit right, but it's really not an issue. The plus side of this case is that when you close the flap, it does make the device sleeps, and open the cover wakes the device. This feature alone is worth the price of the case. Using the cover to wake and puts it to sleep beats the gestures and the button any day. I'm not sure about other features I have heard about, such as the NFC and the wireless charging because I haven't tested them. I may return this case because it doesn't protect my Phone, but my other cheap wallet case is already showing signs of wearing, and this case does look sharp. So I don't know. I may have to shop for another case soon. I will post in a few days after using this case for a while.

Well they just suppose look fancy but where never intended to really protect the phone.

What's fancy about a piece card board like screen cover attach to the back cover? I figure since they call it a case, it suppose to protect the phone. My cheap wallet case offers some protection when I drop it. They really should call it 'screen cover' because there is really not a case anywhere. But like I said, the best part of this 'case' is the screen sleep/wake function. I may grow to like this special back cover after all.

Leather folio case with flip cover, like on Nexus 6P

I've been very happy with the case on my Nexus 6P (this looks like the one: https://www.ebay.com/i/131886281154?rt=nc&var=431231132500). Now having preordered XL2, I've been searching for similar case, but so far haven't found anything that would be close enough match. I went through the Cover thread, and closest ones were cases like this and this but there appears to be few essential differences:
The plastic bumper around looks a lot thinner on these XL2 cases
XL2 cases all have kickstand, which basically means the backside is not as thick/protective against drops
I don't need any CC slots (although having one isn't a show stopper)
Most of these XL2 cases look cheap at least in pictures
Even tried asking @madebygoogle on Twitter, but they didn't have any info on such cases. I'd happily pay that same (absurd) $50 or so for the case that I paid for this 6P case as it really is a premium case I've enjoyed using. Any tips are highly appreciated!

Ditto. Does anyone know who manufactured the Nexus 6P folio?
From what I've found they were produced by adoptednyc.
They show no new items since iPhone 7.
Facebook is quiet too for them.
SOGA makes a really good flip case out of leather that works great.

I ordered 2 of these(2XL & 2).
Will report my assessment of them when they arrive.
Will likely take weeks, coming from China.
I prefer a flip case because of the added protection for the screen.
Also when I hold the phone in portrait mode I tend to use the flipped cover a secure holding grip.
The main downside is when taking a picture the cover gets in the way if I'm too hurried to get a picture.
I ordered the natural leather finished flip case without the strap or clasps from Tedded.
Looks to be of nice quality whereas it's real leather and not the plastic leather most cases use.
Where do the plastics cows come from? Do you feed them plastic packing peanuts?

So I received the cases today.
If the Nexus 6p official case was a 10, I'd give these Tetded cases an 8 or 8.5.
The hinge part of the flip cover seems a little flimsy, not in quality but in strength.
This causes the cover to wiggle or sit a little crooked at times. It isn't bad but not perfect.
The only other thing I'd change, if I could, would be to add a bevel to the area around the fingerprint sensor. Having a beveled surface makes it seem less deep when it guides your finger to the sensor. The hole on this case is is good, but again, not perfect.
All cutouts are properly placed, so no issues there.
All in all, I'd recommend this case to anyone who liked the official Nexus 6p case.

TETDED
Just received my flip case from Tetded.
If you desire a case that wasn't made from last months recycled Coke or Pepsi bottle this is the one to purchase.
I bought the flip case without the latch, the classic vintage brown version. It has the feel of fine leather, not something made from camel scrotum. The cover does interact with the screen as it should.
Access to the side buttons is good the fingerprint sensor is recessed a bit but access is also good.
The only downside at the moment is I use a magnetic phone holder in my vehicle that requires a very thin steel plate be applied to the inside of the front cover I usually use a credit card slot of which there are none. Tomorrows project.
the case is pricey but so wasn't the phone now to find a glass screen protector that doesn't have issues.
Don't ask for "pics" friggen Google Tetded.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm in the same boat. One question for anyone that has the TetDed folio case. 1) How's it holding up a few months down the road? and 2) does the cover hold shut via magnet? Or is it just floppy? Thanks in advance to anyone still monitoring this.

Mine is holding up great, but I'm the type that doesn't have the cover open a lot.
My wife's is not holding up as well cause she is constantly on the phone.
The wear & tear that bothers me about hers is that the cover doesn't rest properly when closed now. it wants to sit crooked by default, resulting in me having to adjust it whenever I see it.
Overall, I think they are still a good option for folio covers, just not nearly as perfect as the Nexus 6p cover.
thanks for taking a chance and for reviewing the leather case.

Best overall wallet/folio/diary case

since I'm using the word best, i must start off by saying it is always subjective.
http://m.araree.com/product/araree®-mustang-diary-for-galaxy-s10/291/?cate_no=174&display_group=1
why do i say it's the best?
-low profile, probably the only wallet case that is this low profile aside from nodus access case iii
-usable bill pocket, enough to put small notes considering the size of phone
-slots for cards, i understand some wallet case only provides 1 slot
-synthetic leather, low maintenance, dry and soft, not tacky
-suede finish inside, feels good
-hard shell, exposed buttons rather than enclosed. provides better flex or bend protection
-modifiable, why do i say so? since hard shell is slap on the interior case, it is definitely using adhesive. thankfully, i was able to peel the hard shell off and install a microsuction film. with the wider case, you should be fine with many slim case. currently I'm using the official clear case from samsung that is provided free.
-wireless chargeable, of course
-tactile buttons feel on the side of the case, easily identify where the buttons are, volume or bixby.
-different speaker hole design, on call? close the cover and u will still listen and talk fine.
-room for pressy or mswitch, if you are only tws earbuds person, you may consider getting additional buttons for your phone by utilizing the audio jack.
-made/designed in/from korea, not really a point but samsung from korea, definitely built best for it.
cons, maybe:
-no magnetic closure
how do you clean the microsuction film? use another adhesive tape.
do share your thoughts and the best wallet case you know if any.

It seems like having cards up against your phone screen is not very smart. Wish we had an old HTC style Ice View case would be awesome. Open the cover the screen comes on, close the cover the screen goes off. Plus see your notifications through the cover. But don't like my wallet mixed with my phone. I don't keep my phone in my back pocket and credit cards seem a little rough up against a $1,000 phone. Especially when we got Samsung and Google pay for that.
Also, edge squeeze would have been great. Missing that but that's another story.
In my honest opinion, all wallet cases are ??. I just don't want anything laying against my phone that's not a case or a screen protector. And I don't want to feel like I'm pulling a book out my pocket everytime I grab for it either. That's just MY opinion though.

It says in the description the removable part is magnetized, for a magnet mount. I think it also snaps in the folio part with the magnet. I will update later when I receive it from Amazon.

consider modifying the case with microsuction instead. but it's up to you.
since samsung gear vr doesn't allow any case on the phone, it is only convenient to have a wallet case that detaches your phone easily.

I have used these in the past and I have one on order for my S10+ honestly forgot to order one until a couple days ago but I have used with every other phone I've had. Quality is top notch, fitment, use etc etc everything is wonderful. Kind of expensive but you get what you pay for!

My reasons for a wallet case is not for cards or cash. Just for screen/phone protection. Must be small enough to fit in my pockets, must have magnetic closure. seems most with magnets wont wirelessly charge correctly though. The Samsung LED case is a perfect fit, nice and slim. I could care less for the LED. It's not magnetic though so as soon as you fold cover back it wont stay closed. The front just springs open. You can leave it upside down overnight and that will help until next time you fold it, which is all day for me. Pull it out of my pocket and the front just springs open. If Whitestone Tempered glass weren't $60 and didnt crack once a week id use that and a regular case. They broke easy on my s8 and s9 too. Without dropping either in some cases, just mysteriously crack. I found a nice real leather folio case that seems to fit my needs perfectly. Magnetic, slim, firm and protects screen from scratches and i'm sure it will protect screen from drops better than any non otterbox or lifeproof case, unless it flys open on the way down and lands on the glass (My Samsung LED one did that, No magnet, Screen smashed) Which it shouldn't because it has a decent magnet. I have dropped phone once since getting this case and it stayed closed. Magnet works when folding the cover back as well, holds it to the back of the case nicely. Again i dont need it as a wallet, I prefer thin instead. This case smells like leather, beautiful smell. Slides in and out of pocket easy, it's not much bigger than a standard case.

try hanman wallet case. it has a magnetic closure and won't affect wireless charging or nfc.
for the case i'm using, so far it has never spring open or anything. it stays.

So credit cards scraping against your phone screen is no big deal?

why would it scrape the phone? so far the screen protector that comes with the phone has held up well without any scratches.

My buddy has a wallet case and he cracked his screen. Of course he treats his wallet case like a real wallet and keeps all his cards and money in it. I'm sure he wasn't being very careful with it.
I liked the magnetic cover cases on curved screens just to protect the screen since screen protectors are a hassle on curved screens.

Question Air Skin-like Case with Kickstand

Hi All,
I've been using Samsung Leather Cover exchangeably with Spigen Air Skin and find the latter a perfect balance between protection and thinness.
I've looked online and could not find cases that would be thin, but have a kickstand.
Has anyone found anything of that sort and can share?
P.S. I am watching the Spigen Neo Hybrid S, but it is still on preorder and not available in Poland, yet.
I am using the Spigen Slim Armor Pro Pen Edition case, although it is going to be slightly thicker - not much though and it does provide amazing protection all around including hinge and holds the S-pen.
As for the Kickstand, an option that I did is stuck a ESR Boost Kickstand on the back of the case which works both with it folded vertical or horizontal and also unfolded so that you have several lean positions.
You could use stick it on your air skin case, but suggest you give serious consideration to the Spigen Slim Armor Pro Pen case if you are using the Air skin, as a better case all-around.
Pics also show my pop socket, another great way to hold the phone, and I also use it with the car mount, and twist off when I wirelessly charge.
Those solutions look quite bulky and I do not like those rings.
Will continue waiting for Neo Hybrid S, unless someone can suggest another good solution
Can u suggest me a strap like the one on the official samsung sylicon case?
Right now im using spigen air case
One strap that looks cool - multi purpose is demoed on GregglesTV Video review which you may like.
I seen another one in one of the forums, not sure which -XDA or Reddit, but you just loop it through the camera opening and the bottom of the camera - very simple but also practical- not sure of the brand or name though.
that setup looks great but I like to use wireless charging I had the Spigen Slim Armor Pro but didn't realize they had a sperate one for the s pen so I returned it

Alredy got the 2nd one u mentioned. Its the ringke back strap. The love strap is not available in india
Wow, India, OK, well those are the two that I have seen...
Myself I use a pop socket, and use it also to mount to my magnetic mount in my car.
When I am going to wirelessly charge, I just twist the pop socket off, and good to charge.

Awesome, happy I was able to help, yeah it looks pretty cool, dual purpose case add-on, enjoy!
Got this armid fiber case from ebay. its so lite and grippy. But i doubt any protection as the cuts outs are so thinn almost i would say negligible. Although it fells better in hand when compared to spigen air
The case seems to be not covering Some of the edges. But i like the matte grippy feel as i have sweaty hands
So, over 2 weeks ago I got the sleek strip and I have to say it is great. I only use it in unfolded state, but it makes holding the phone so much more comfortable, I can really recommend it.
