4.1.2 Battery Issues? Simple Fix

So the first thing I noticed when I updated to the MB4 4.1.2. Rom was the battery drain. Obviously, I also thought it was the LTE/4G/3G/2G options turned on being the culprit. But I did some research and found out wiping cache (not wipe data) in cwm did the trick. Now I only lose about a percent per night even with LTE on. Obviously, my GPS is not on when not in use. Looking at the battery setting, I see that the phone is awake only when the screen is on. That's what you want to get to I think for great battery life. Hope that helps. Not something hard to try and you'll notice no drain. Before I did this, I could come back in like an hour to see a couple percentage drops. Let us know how that worked for you.
ps - I just recalled I wiped or formatted another section. Just to be safe, wipe dalvic cache and format cache while you're at it. Usually it's best to format everything before a new rom and that helps solved most battery issues. But since we're not doing that, wipe these 3 and your battery life should come back up to normal.

I'm losing like 4% per hour on low to average use.

There's really nothing to lose here. You're not erasing your app data or anything of that nature.

Any way to do this on an unrooted/stock recovery phone?

unfortunately youll need root and cwm or similar to get into these options.

So basically you suggest rooting then install cwm?

Yeah, rooting is not difficult at all. I'd search for how on google on here on XDA. Searrch for "T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 Root"

Thanks, let us know how it goes. I'm going to do a full 100% charge tonight before I sleep and going to see the % drop in the morning. Im going to just turn off GPS, with wifi on.

k, i lost 5% overnight. 12am to 6am But for the first few hours the notification light was on, (got an email) GPS off, wifi on, Not bad but I lost 1% overnight with 4.1.1.

5% overnight I think is not bad. I never really had a chance to test mine yet as I always charge my phone before I got to bed. I'll make sure to charge it later regardless of its battery level so I can leave it 100% before bed. Will report after.

Sorry for the delay so I went to bed and lost 7% after 5 hours. I dont use any 3rd party power saving aside from the one in the phone settings. My phone is rooted but running stock. Only thing off was the BT and GPS and everything is left on default.
Is this percentage drain normal?

Yeah, from using the 4.1.2 MB rom, I think you're generally going to get worse battery life than 4.1.1 stock t-mo rom. (that thing was amazing on battery) I really don't know what the BIG change in battery life is coming from. I even turned off LTE but doesn't really make a difference. I seriously don't think we should lose over a couple % overnight. Ill have to reinstall GSM Battery to see whats going on.

kinda odd that today, I lost about 50% during the working hours. That's close to what I usually lose with the 4.1.1 avg use during breaks, quick games, lots of news, etc. Gonna charge full tonight and see how it goes tomorrow. I might probably use it a little more though since my Boss is on a trip lol.

I did another test last night from a full charge. Slept for 4.5 hrs and lost 13%
I'm currently at 70% now with 8h36m on it @ 30m screen on time lol.
But realistically, as long as I dont have to run and look for charger before the day ends, I'm fine with this. I usually charge before going to bed and I still have about 15%. With about 4 hrs screen on the average.
Still better than all my previous smartphones.

[Q] Rapid Battery Loss & Rebooting Restores Battery?

So, my battery is wack... and I think it's only been acting like this since I went to a KK ROM? Maybe? Feels like it...
I've had this tablet since it was released last fall, and this behavior is very recent.
Anyways, it dies FAST. Like nose dives in a matter of 5-15 minutes. What's even weirder, is that sometimes, if I power cycle the device, it'll jump up by 30-60%. But then just dies again in another 5-15 minutes.
And there's a screenshot after I just power-cycled.
It jumped from 11% to 71%!!
Crazy!
I've also tried letting it get to 5% then charging it to 100%, done that twice. No luck. I don't know if this is related, but if I power it completely off, and plug it in, it turns on... kinda weird. My Note 3 doesn't do that, it just stays off and shows the battery charge indicator.

Hi, I have similar problem and I am with 4.3 android. I have battery loss when I play games. It drops to 2-3% really fast and after reboot it goes up to 35-40%. Once I fully depleted my battery and charge it. This time there were no battery lost. After the second charging problem persists.
If you manage to fixed it please tell us how.

I have a similar problem with my p600. the tablet is new, got it since a month or less.
at first i was amazed of the battery life i use it a lot for work writing documents and sheets on excel, battery used to perfom quite well giving me more than 5 hours of screen on, but recently the battery starts to drop very fast, now i can barely get around 2 hours of screen on.
i've already done 2 cycles of full discharge and then charge it completely with the tablet turned off. but the problem stills.
also sometimes when i reboot the tablet the battery goes from i.e 20% to 40% after the reboot.
im still looking for a fix or solution, today i found a new official firmware for my model (4.4 firmware for telcel mexico). going to wait until the tablet is fully charged and then flash the new firmware. I dont know if its going to help but i got nothing to lose.
by the way, sending it to semsung is not an option because of knox 0x1

Well unfortunately this has not worked....battery is still tanking. last night i played plague for 30 minutes....in 30 mins battery went from 90% to 25%. I think i will try reflashing KitKat....maybe my original update was screwy. If that does not fix it then I guess I will have to call Sammy.

Man i ha e exactly the same problem. I calibrated it some months ago and it seemed to work fine. Now the problem is back.... Dont know what to do... I have tried several apps, though i read google doesn't recomend to use any app to fix the battery... we really need help here

Sorry to bump this, has anyone found a solution yet.
I've replaced the battery 3 times in about 9 months, but had this issue about a yr, was sent back to Samsung who changed the battery and supposedly updated the fw 4.4.2, I have since replaced the battery another 3 times every 3 months, each time either factory resetting or flashing a new rom, currently on official Smp600 5.1.1 BTU rom, today my battery was on 47%, I plugged in charger and was watching/streaming a movie on it, about 80 minutes later the tablet shut off, which was odd it's never powered off while on charge, powered it back on and battery said 19%, my previous issues has been the same as others, it can be on 100%, play a game, or stream a movie,or watch youtube etc and it will nosedive dramatically 20/30% at a time, sometimes within 10 mins it's gone from 100% to less than 30%, it's clear there's some sort of issue if others have it, I was wondering if a thread should be made to list ppl with this issue to see how many there are and go from there.

I've been having the same issue for some time now. Calibrating the battery does help, I don't experience the problem nearly as much after calibrating it. First two days I had the phone it had great battery. I was getting 16-18 hours of life with 4-6 sot. Now the last two days at work it's worse than my op2. By the time I got home yesterday I was at like 35%. Previous days I was well over 60.My android system is taking most of the blame. On my good days it was at like 8% when the phone would die. Right now with my phone at 79% it's already at the top with 5%. I've barely used the phone while I'm at work right now. It's been unplugged for 3 hours and my sot is 35 minutes. Not sure if it's got something to do with the ambient display. Maybe finger print scanner. Any one have ideas?

Seems like you had been on LTE for quite long. Mobile data takes pounding on battery life. You will always see android system, android os and Google services etc on battery stat when using mobile data. Not the same case with wifi.

Not rooted yet. Didn't want to loose dash charge with a new rom but cat just chewed the cord so guess I'll make a jump. Is that only a rooted app?

Humm I thought it was the other way around. Nevertheless I have WiFi at work. Can't remember if I was on it though. I'll have to test that out.

You don't have to run a custom rom or loose dash charge cause your rooted. I'm still using stock oxygen 3.1.3,and have the basic functions like dash charge working. I'm not sure if you have to be rooted to use gsm, cause I'm always rooted, but it may gave you more specific insight as to what exactly is draining your battery quickly.

You know the image you attached, with the graph on it? Tap that and check the Awake heading. Is it one long solid blue bar? If yes: your phone stays awake (doesn't go in deep sleep mode). Does restarting it make a difference (i.e. does the solid blue bar get broken up)?
The problem emerged on my OP3 as well yesterday AND I had it on my prevous phone (a OPO). On the OPO the problem was that it wouldn't release a wakelock that kicked in during charging. While I haven't explored the problem on my new OP3 enough to know if this is the same problem, here's what fixed it for me if the problem is indeed charger related: when charged to your liking turn off your phone with the charging cable still in. Once turned off, remove the cable and restart the phone.

I'll have to check that out. I'll root today. Just haven't had a need with the OP3 I'm digging this version of oxygen and not missing any of my root abilities. Also I use android pay. But I guess I can live without it lol

Are you talking about under history details? I'll check tonight once my phone is drained. I did a battery cycle yesterday. Let it die and charged to 100 while it was off. We'll see how it goes today. And your saying it was an actual charger problem?

Heavy battery drain might have to do with the "pocket problem". The fingerprint sensor constantly activates and is not properly blocked by the proximity sensor.
There are several threads and posts about it, here and on the oneplus forums...

Yea I had that once in a while with my op2 I'd take the phone out of my pocket and it would say too many attempts at the scanner. Nothing on this phone like that though. And of course today is a different story with the battery lol its good today. So maybe it's while I'm at work. Idk it's odd. I need some more testing. Currently I'm at 9.5 hours on battery with 56% left and almost 3 hours sot. I'll see how this week goes at work and see if I can diagnose anything

I've been having this problem as well, losing as much as up to 20% of battery overnight, while it was doing absolutely nothing. I've tried a couple of things, but last night it 'only' drained 5%, betterbatterystats reports 0.6% of drainage per hour.
I think this is due to the weather option in the launcher, could anyone else try turning it off and see if battery life improves significantly?

You don't even need to do that. You can just check it after an hour or even less. Just put the phone away for an hour with the screen off and check history details.

Not quite. I'm saying it was a wakelock that kicked in during charging and that wasn't released when I took the phone off the charger. I don't know if it was the charger caused the wakelock.

Great for two days now I'm leaving work with 45% battery and only an hour and a half sot. Unplugged for 9 hours. Idk I feel like it's hit or miss

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the ZTE Axon 7's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Left it off the charger last night for 7 hours - batter only drained 3-4%.

With the data off I lost 1% in 8 hours, with the data on about 15% in 8 hours (this is probably because of the notifications from AA and other apps )

Only lost 1% last night with data and wifi on, and all apps closed.

I lose 20-30% battery every night and I have yet to test how long it takes to charge from 0%, but it takes about an hour to charge back up to 100% in the morning. That's using the quick charger included. I'm thinking I may have a defective battery. I just unlocked my bootloader and rooted yesterday so looks like I won't be able to exchange it. The only reason I root is for AdAway. I haven't had my phone a week yet and had been using Netguard to block ads. I thought it was that, that was eating my battery but apparently not. No difference using AdAway. Woke up to 82% this morning.

Since you are root install the wake lock detector there u will find out if it probly another app that keeps the phone awake

Thanks! Could you sort on wakelock amount? Not sure what it's called precisely, but it should put the Google App on top of the apps shown in your screenshot (it focusses on the x526).

Do you mean sorting it so the app that's causing the most drain is at the top? If so that's what I've done for that screen shot.

It's now sorted by duration. It would be more interesting to see what apps do the most number of wakelocks (and thus preventing your device from going into deep sleep).
So, for example, from your screenshot we can see that 'Phone' did one request (x1) for a wakelock. But your Google App did it 526 times (x526). Try to find the option to sort on that information.

The picture I posted was the CPU Wakelock option. I switched to wakeup triggers and the Google App shows 77 and there's nothing in the screen wakelock option.

So I put my phone back to stock (relock bootloader, replace TWRP with stock recovery) because I was planning on returning it. It wasn't only the battery life I wasn't impressed with. It was the overall experience. I found the phone super laggy. When I put it back to stock it miraculously came to life. Battery life is great (only lost 2% overnight compared to 20-30% previously) and it seems much snappier. I'm actually really happy with it now. Even as I said before I unlocked the bootloader and rooted I had the battery issue and it still continued after rooting. I ordered a Pixel XL which I should be receiving tomorrow. I might end up sending it back and keeping my ZTE which is basically half the price. Also I would be charged a restocking fee of $78 plus I have to pay shipping back. There's pretty well $100 gone. I'm quite impressed now with the Axon 7 and I'm pretty sure I will be keeping it.

Don't know if you're still having this problem - I had the same thing for the first few days of having the phone. Accuwewther seemed to be using a lot of battery so I deleted it and ever since then drain had been normal (1-2% per hour when idle, compared with 8-10% with the weather app installed.)
For anyone else having battery issues, try th e above and see if it helps!

i tunr off my phone. and the battery still gets empty by itself. does anbody has the same problem.

I'm really pleased with this phone, the battery drain overnight is non existent:

on nB09 is about 0,5%/h after 1st charge,
after 2nd is is about 1%/3h

@Galaxo60 - That's great for you - but you must tell us if you are on stock or custom rom and which version phone you have and which update you are on [ Bxxxxxxx ] for this information to be helpful

Note 10+ battery drain

I don't know if it's just me but has anyone elses note 10+ gone down by 50% in 2hrs. Ive noticed that it kinda looks like its draining battery fast and this was just after it has been setup

Drained a lot during setting up, but it's been fine since. If you keep having this problem, factory reset, and see if it still happens.

did a full reset and had no difference. phone still drains, mainly on homescreen but lasts longer in apps

Just to verify... you did a full reset, then tested without restoring any data or apps. In this case, I think you got a bad unit.

I guess I don't really sit for two hours on the home screen. In fact, in running Nova Launcher, so I never see the Samsung home screen. I'll load it up and see if I notice any problem.

yep full reset and nothing restored, ill test it out a bit longer and see if i may need to talk to either samsung or my carrier who provided the unit

I just did a quick test. Fully set up phone with my podcast player playing over Bluetooth, sitting on the Samsung home screen, I'm discharging roughly at 12% per hour.

Still, yours seems to be draining at twice the rate mine is, and I assume you aren't streaming over Bluetooth.

bluetooth is off and just sitting there on the home screen. ive also noticed that in games/other apps itll show i only have about 2hrs of gaming(from the game booster) despite being low performance intensive games and i understand partially as to why it would say that but seeing as how others can use their phone for a lot longer, sometimes up to a day but this does not seem good

I've been using this phone off and on for 14 hours today, with just a few minutes of charging here and there, and I'm at 33%. Excellent battery life. I don't game though, unless you count Words With Friends. [emoji1]

I've never experienced any better From a smart phone my fingers haven't left this phone alone ? first cycle was around 7 hours but I had 5g turned on so I turned that off as theres no 5g in my area and I get close to 9 hours sot

I've been about the same but it just feels like the phone isn't lasting as long as it should. I should still definitely go and see my local Samsung just in case. there's a likely chance they'll do what they did with my s8 and say there's nothing wrong with despite clear signs of needing a new battery.

not bad. wish i had the 5g model, wanted to get it but carrier didnt do it and i wasnt going to fork out 2k.

Battery life seems on par with my note 8. I don't have the 5g(no point as by time VZW gets to my area the note 12 will be out), I do have it set relatively bright, and at full Rez.. My Screen off time is extremely good compared to my note 8 went to bed with 95% and got up at 90%. My note 8 would often drop 30%

Yeah note 20 will be out by the time 5g hits my area

I received my note 10+ on 22nd August 2019 and i initially charged it full til 100% and started using it. However i noticed that the battery Is draining too fast. So far i have been using it for 4 days and i have the same issue. Even i did factory reset but still same issue.
So far I have recharged it for 4 to 5 cycles of full charge till 100%, and even my device is up to date with the latest software updates.
Kindly suggest and share your thoughts / comments.

Yup, I'm having quick battery drain myself as well. I hoping when getting this phone that battery life would not be a concern. Maybe Samsung can update it to help with the drain? Anyway.... it's a bit disappointing.

From what I've heard which may be wrong, I think upon opening you need to use it till death and then give a full charge. Positive it might be an actual problem now if more people are getting it.

It is disappointing but at this point we can only hope
