Bypass Tethering? Without plan? Possible? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

I've got a op3 and the only real reason I would root it is for a way to have unlimited Tethering? I've tried numerous apps but I cannot find a decent method, I remember on my S4 I flashed a rom with it built in... Do you lovely people here at xda know of method? I'm with network 3 and have 12gb Tethering anyways but I wanna bypass that limit. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

All you need to do is add this line to your build.prop
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

And how would I edit that? Or add to it? Build prop? Please let me know the method and I'll love you forever!

Download build prop editor from play store, grant it root, then add the line at the very end. Then reboot

I'm getting unlimited tethering while using USB tethering. I have T-MOBILE. I don't know how your provider checks, but it works for me.

Yeah. I was just offering an alternative in case they decided not to root. It's not as convenient as a hotspot, but it works well.

I just tried with "adb shell" then "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" and it worked like a charm with stock OxygenOS 3.2.7

It should work even on full stock ('cause it's just adb Shell).

Sorry if this has been asked but can anyone get the wifi tether apps to work? I've trieda couple and my laptop can't even see the connection. I'm on stock rooted.

did you check the development section. Hotspot hack was just posted...
Wireless tether for root users is working fine for me.
wifi tether 3.0 beta works for me. I am on zedomax kernel v3, though

Did you enable wifi encryption? While in the app, click on the MENU KEY>SETTINGS>and select ENABLE WIFI ENCRYPTION...by default, the key is "abcdefghijklm" but you can set it to any 13 character string...I'd recommend just using the default 1st

I'm running it right now from my iPad. It's v3 beta 6. Running on stock rom with stock eg30plus kernel. Pm me if you want to try this one. No configuration needed just make sure you are rooted and it works fine on 3G and 4g

Did you try enabling wifi encryption? I use it at work everyday when I set up the VPN client on users laptops. You can't hit the VPN gateway from w/in the network, so I use the wifi tether app to login from outside the firewall and it works great!
The wifi hack is nice since it is the stock wifi tether app being used.

I like it that way better so I can use my control widget to turn it on and off from my home screen.
try and see if a different wifi device sees it, id bet its a laptop wifi issue and not your phone..just check with anything wifi

Capped at .4 kbps
I thought I fixed the issue but it's back to being really slow on 4g and 3g. Tried factory reset and that didn't help. If anyone has an idea or suggestion I'd appreciate it. I'm running stock rooted kernel.

Do we know if the Sprint Hotspot hack tethers 4G?
That's it? Just so you dont have to use a usb? When you use a app instead of the option in settings does that use our unlmited data or will it be capped?

It does not because the person(Necrosan) that is being given credit for the 3g hack states in his thread since he does not have 4g in his area to do testing. You can go on his thread and see if you can be a tester so that we may be able to get the hack going. But for now you would need a third party app to use 4g tethering unfortunately

[MOD] How to enable built-in wifi tethering

Things you will need:
1) rooted phone
2) root explorer app (paid)
3) sqlite editor (paid - root explorer will direct you to it)
*** Now that cm9 is available I wanted to update this posting to let you know that these instructions are for stock gingerbread as well as the custom gingerbread roms. Cm9 has this option natively and you won't need to do this on cm9. Just want to save anyone from having problems with cm9. Now if your on gingerbread, go for it. ***
Now go to this directory with root explorer:
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(You will have an option to open it with the internal viewer or SQLite editor, choose SQLite editor)
Select secure
Now locate tether_entitlement_check_state and change the value to 0 then save and reboot.
Now you can use the built in tethering without the pop-up saying that you don't have a tethering plan.
I hope this helps you guys out.
Disclaimer: As chrisd1a1 pointed out doing this is at your own risk as far as breaking your terms of service with at&t. I do not know if at&t can detect this or what the result will be if they do. I'm just throwing this out there as another option.

This is exactly why I'm using the ClockWorkMod app. I've already been kicked off my unlimited data plan once for "unauthorized tethering" and it was hell getting back on the plan. The loophole to do so is no longer available, so I really don't want to get kicked again.
I'll have to wait and see how it works out for others. But good job on showing us the way to enable it. Thumbs up!
If I'm not mistaken, the tether_entitlement_check_state will not be available in the database until first attempt enabling tethering.
interesting thread. moved to DEV as this could be handy for future development.
the only disclaimer I'll put in is that it's at your own risk if you break any terms of service from your carrier....

Chris

I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't be able to detect it. It works the same way as it does on any other Android device.

It's included in my plan as well and I'm on AT&T. Not sure if it's a Premier thing though, but my data plan came with hotspot as part of it, and it's not the data sharing plan.
When I tried to enable it, it told me to call 611 to activate it.
+1 for foxfi on ATT.
AT&T will force you to give up unlimited data plans to enable this from them and it's another $15 USD / month. I believe the context of the OP is without carrier plan.
If you have no unlimited data and can stomach the $15/mo, more power to you.
Foxfi doesn't work for me but I found a way to get native tethering work on this phone but your phone has to be rooted to do that:
1. First you need to delete TetherProvision.apk system app. Either by root explorer or TB. Removing this might cause a FC when you try to turn Mobile Hotspot on in Settings (happened to me) but keep on reading.
2. Go to Google Play store and install Power Toggle and add the Wifi tether widget to your Homescreen.
3. Boom ^_^.
Excellent! Thank you for finding this.
Or flash 15 toggles from the Development thread. Mobile Hotpot built in + flash light and others

Since you are using it on Rogers, You will need to root and change your build prop, or flash the panama rom to get tether working. Its the AT&T Rom stopping you cause each time you try to enable tethering it only knows to check with AT&T and no one else.

Yea there's no way around that but to use a name like LG with no security and that only occanlly works. I thought you flashed the panama rom?? The build prop changes are not required for tethering to work that's only for the att version.

ROOT Looking for wifi hotspot app for root

I had a galaxy s3 a while ago also rooted where i had used pdanet+ to create a hotspot without paying an arm and a leg to my carrier for the option. It had worked. Now that i have the g4 i want to do the same. when i try to use any app that says root wifi hotspot or whatever, they dont actually ask for root access nor do they work as intended. I was wondering if there was any other apps out there (for free this is the point) that i could use... Or if theres a method im neglecting to use to get this working.
