Ok thank you, I'm a little bit confused because I come from samsung phones and I noticed that rooting an Xperia is a harder than I thought to be.
1. My current Android version is MM 6.0.1 , the build number is 32.2.A.0.305
2. No I know nothing about DRM keys concept and hence, don't know their utility.

well coming from Samsung to XPERIA is better than coming from iphone to Xperia! you have knowledge of Android Ecosystem!
Digital Rights Management Keys (DRM keys) are keys stored in TA partitions ( for argument sake lets say in the beginning of FILESYSTEM) placed by SONY.
when Kernal checks and report the existence of the keys to android and hence features like X-REALITY / BRAVIA ENGINE / 4K camera upscale photography etc WORKS perfectly. (in layman terms FULL VERSION works only if these keys are there)
now ,,, ROOTING xperia
1. if you are on LP kernel, android can be xploited by IOVY TEMP ROOT ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/iovyroot-temp-root-tool-t3349597 ) and/or ( onclickroot /// kingRoot)
these roots can exploits android 5.1x vulnerabilities and once root access gained in 5.1, you can EXTRACT/BACKUP these DRMKEYS.
2. from MM kernel 3.10. there is no known xploit for android 6.x.x, since GOOGLE enforced dm-varity security from MM; hence the only way to gain root access is to flash modified kernel. and in order to modify kernel you must have UNLOCK BOOT-LOADER. once you send you IEMI number to sony ( http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/ ) they will give you KEYS to unlock your bootloader. //// ONCE you unlock it, SONY devices are design to WIPE "E V E R Y T H I N G" in the internal storage including TA partitions and drmkeys.
3. the MODIFIED kernel which is been used in recent months and found on XDA has DRM FIX feature enabled which reports to android that there are KEYS (even if its lost) in order for premium features on Z5 to keep running/working smoothly!
NOW for you!
if you wana extract DRM keys! BEFORE BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING/ you must DOWNGRADE your xperia to LP and root it with iovyroot OR kingoROOT or KINGROOT and once android is xploited, you can extract keys by using tool at ( https://github.com/DevShaft/Backup-TA/releases ) ( this tool extract and reinstate keys)
put superSU ZIP file in your sdcard from https://download.chainfire.eu/1009/SuperSU/SR2-SuperSU-v2.78-SR2-20161029143931.zip
later , you can upgrade your z5 to .305 and unlock your bootloader and flash modified kernel for E6853 (thanks to @KbaB.BroS ) at https://mega.nz/#F!KwZhjLIK!uNbDzR6lCXMaaW7jKFS1WQ!WpZAkLZC. (E6853.img) / after flashing goto recovery, and install supersu zip form sdcard.
BOOT and you will have ROOTED xperia z5 and using same tool if you want you can restore you DRM keys OR as of now keep them aside may be you need them in any of upcoming upgrades!
the GLOBAL TOOL for FLASHING XPERIA is FLASHTOOL ( www.flashtool.net) / don't forget to install XPERIA COMPANION and drivers from flashtool .drivers folder!
like for samsung is Odin.
I'm a bit confused by the various root procedures and I have a few follow up questions.
If you root the phone by mentioned downgrade method, will you be able to re-upgrade back to MM and keep root status with previously reinstated DRM keys? If the re-upgrade is possible, can this be done by various pending regional OTA updates? Or once the downgrade method is used, will future updates only be possible by flashing future kernels that become available?
Or...
Is it that if you want to backup the original DRM keys you need to --> downgrade --> Root --> Extract the DRM keys --> Flash a relevant LP kernel + SuperSU. Therefore, now the rooted phone is running LP. But then if you want upgrade to MM you need to root the phone again (this time using tools to emulate the DRM keys)?

--> downgrade --> Root --> Extract the DRM keys --> UPDATE TO MM ---> BOOT UNLOCK ---> FLASH MODIFIED KERNEL HAVING TWRP ---> FLASH SUPERSU via twrp----> R E B O O T
(keep the keys safe for future)
all these things can be done / should be done (atleast i would suggest) using FLASHTOOL ( www.flashtool.net)
after rooting if you update/re flash your device, rooting goes! because the original kernel don't have this option
Ok thanks YasuHamed , it seems a little bit complicated , how do I downgrade my device from MM to LP ?
In fact, I want to root my device only to import my pevious applications saved via Titanium Backup ( which saves also the data ) , and I didn't find an app like Titanium working without root ( I've tried Helium but it doesn't work for me at all ). If there is an app that saves the apk within its data, could you suggest me one please ?

First of all this is wrong thread for your question and if you will search by using search option in forums you will find something
Now if u have locked bootloader then use nuts method check development thread
And if you are willing to unlockbootloader then there is easy way

It says that the previous version must be rooted. Bt mine wasnt rooted.
I rooted my device by unlocking bootloader
So if u r ready then i can help u

May be later. I dont wanna unlock bootloader now.
You need to go back to 4.2 and use NUTS method to flash to 4.3 with root
Unlocking bootloader makes us to lose DRM keys. But to backup ta partition, rooting is required. To root, bootloader unlocking is required. Wtf
Downgrade is only option mate
Sent from my C6502 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So hw can i backup my TA?
Simple steps:
1. Downgrade to 4.2.2 (67 firmware) by flashing the ftf file of your region. Search the ZL thread to find your ROM on 67 fw.
2. Root the 67 firmware by bin4ry's method or cubeundcube method.
3. Make a TA backup using DevShaft's method. This is important for relocking your bootloader.
4. Upgrade to 101 using PCC or SUS. You will lose root. Make a ftf file of the update files that has been downloaded to your computer using flashtool.
5. Unlock bootloader from Sony. You will lose DRM.
6. Flash a custom kernel by Doomlord or Gustavo RD78. This is a modified stock kernel with cwm recovery built-in.
7. Now download the latest 1.94 update super su.zip from chainfire's website. Store it in your ext micro SD card. Flash it to root your phone from the cwm recovery.
8. To get back to stock recovery, use the ftf file created at step 4 above. Flash only the kernel and fotakernel from the ftf file.
9. Now relock your bootloader by flashing the ta backup you made at step 3. Now your phone is rooted with locked bootloader on 101 firmware.
10. Enjoy!
I made a similar help thread for Sony Xperia Z here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656698.
Go though the thread except using the custom kernel in that thread. That kernel is Z specific. For the ZL use the advanced stock kernel by Doomlord or Gustavo RD78 in the dev section. Link for kernel for ZL is here:

I'm sorry, but isn't flashing 4.2.2 version (ftf .67), then rooting with kingo, then upgrading to .101 via OTA a much easier procedure?

Kingo steals your IMEI and phone information while it roots. Some malware package is dropped onto your phone ( a long alpha numeric gibberish folder name with a dot in the begining to hide it). The folder is copied onto your phone's external SD card as well as onto your internal memory. This folder contains a .nomedia file sized 80 bytes, which is funny 'coz all nomedia files are 0 byte files. The file has some code stored in it, which is very suspicious. Avoid Kingo, vroot and all such Chinese fly-by night closed-source root methods that require an internet connection to root your phone.
Also read the last post in this thread for more information.

Ok, sounds enough arguments for at least try another method. By the time I was rooting my device (a couple of months ago), kingo was the only method I could get my unlocked bootloader phone to keep root after upgrading to latest firmware through OTA (it was .569 back then). If someone is willing to point me (while I look by myself) to the method you followed to get root on a .101 firmware with a locked bootloader (mine can't be unlocked, AFAIK) I'll be more than glad!
Thanks for your comments.

Towel root. Rooting won't erase anything from your phone
Towel works great but not if you've already upgraded to 4.4.4.

Is your bootloaded locked, or unlocked? For LOCKED bootloader, I used the following procedure multiple times with no problems (I don't see why it wouldn't work for unlocked bootloader, but I haven't tried it):
1. Flash .230 kernel using FlashTool (basically, you are temporarily downgrading your kernel).
2. Root your phone using newroot.
3. Flash either .283 or .292 kernel (whichever 4.4.4 build you are on) using FlashTool.
4. (optional) Flash a custom recovery (I use XZDualRecovery by [NUT]
You will need kernels to flash in steps #1 and #3 - either search for FTF files to download, or create FTFs yourself using XperiFirm checker/downloaded and FlashTool. The procedure for creating FTF is described in XperiFirm thread.
There may be other ways; I am only telling you what I tried myself, and know 100% that it works...

The way I understand it, the method I described should also work for unlocked BL.
Of course, you don't need to flash a new ROM -- just a kernel. That's exactly what I said... First, downgrade your existing kernel for rooting, and then, after the rooting is done, flash the proper kernel back.
I wanna root my phone , with locked bl. May I know which website to follow??
Hi All,
Now happy to share that my C6506 on LL 5.1.1 (10.7.A.0.222). One worry remaining is how to root it to get full Android power ?
I tried with kingo root beta and Kingroot (which i used to root 5.0.2) but no luck . I need this to install recovery/ xposed ....
Hope to hear good news from you, pals

If you have unlocked bootloader, simply download the superSU binaries to your phone and flash a KK custom kernel and flash the SuperSU bin via recovery. Or you can create a prerooted flashable zip with PRFCreator and flash it via recovery as well (which is what I did and root works correctly).

Stamina and Clear Sound work as usual. The only thing that doesn't work is the Bravia Engine. To restore that you'd need to restore the TA partition and relock the bootloader. (You can relock the bootloader without having to worry about breaking root or recovery).
Thank for confirm, will try soon.
Btw, it seems the 'cell standby' was fixed in this version.
Can i use the kernel in 5.0.2 in 5.1.1 in order to work the rooting process of kingroot?
@owlwood , Could you pls suggest some good custom kernel for ZL 5.1.1 ?
I don't think there will be a custom kernel for ZL. There has never been much development for this phone.
But we have a quite good stock firmware and we got Cyanogenmod, enough for me...
What special feature would you expect from a custom kernel?
There are no more development on ZL than Z that maid many custom rom in 5.1.
Hopefully they create now that z5 dumps are available ?
Please guide how to root E6883. Thank you very much !
well rooting is not as straight forward as you think...
1) downgrade to LP .200 or lower if you are on MM already.
2) use iovyroot - (temp) root tool from @ zxz0O0 to backup your TA partition in order to preserve your DRM keys!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/iovyroot-temp-root-tool-t3349597
3) after successfully backing up your TA, you can unlock your boatloader and root your device!
then you can use this method to restore those SONY features that you lost by unlocking bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/sony-credentials-restore-unlocking-t3296383
There is no permanent root for locked bootloader devices yet...

Dear XDA Community,
I have an Xperia M C1905 and I have checked the service info menu and it shows "Rooting Status: Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes" so I can unlock bootloader but I have heard that unlocking bootloader can cause the phone to bootloop. So I want to know how to unlock the bootloader, root this phone and add a custom recovery. I don't know whether I should take a TA Partition backup or not. I do own an xperia SP which I have but it is broken so the Xperia M C1905 will have to be used for the time being. Can someone from the forum show me the right links for unlocking bootloader, root, custom recovery. A set of instructions to follow since looking at the forum I got no idea which guide to follow for this phone.
Currently this phone requires the bootloader to be unlocked without causing a bootloop to happen.
It is currently running android 4.3 stock - Build Number: 15.4.A.1.9
I'm a noob at this since the last time I unlocked bootloader and added custom rom to the xperia SP was like 4 years ago
First of all you need to root your device, search on google about towelroot app / apk to get su binary.
After you get notifications about your device is rooted, go to playstore and search about SuperSU and install it.
After install, you need to backup your TA warranty to safe your warranty if you want to unlock bootloader, look at this link for how to do it https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
After that, you can unlock your bootloader with this way https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484622.
After you unlock your bootloader, you maybe get problem with bootloop. You only need to re-flash your firmware (ftf) with flashtool with full wipe data and cache, after flash your device is boot up sucessfully with unlocked bootloader.
for recovery maybe you can use this if you want to work with stock ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494793 during FOTA recovery can't use on stock ROM you can use that recovery for this section.
That's all i think, if you still need ask just ask it
Hello Nicklas,

It is no longer needed as I had to do a software repair via sony companion and followed the steps all over again, it is now working running lineage os rom unofficial android 7.1.2 with Mimori Kernel including TWRP recovery. It is so much better than running stock 4.3 from sony. I still need to find a way to save battery life on this phone, i need a balanced performance with battery life. Does anyone know which rom provides perfomance and battery life? Already tried lineage os, RR Remix Rom, Stryflex Rom, XOSP Rom and Slim 7 or Slim Rom?
