Just got my 5x today, and it does "rapid charging" when I connect with the charger in the box, but when I connect using other USB cables/plugs (one supports QC 2.0, the other is a regular charger but supports 2.1A charging), I get a message that the device is "Charging slowly."
Are there other certain specs that a cable or charger has to have to take advantage of rapid charging?
Fast charging on USB-C is apparently very picky when it comes to cables. I havent't tried charging from the USB-A cables that I bought, but the reviews for one that I was considering said that the cable limited the charging capability to 500mA. I know little about qcomm's Quick Charging but I do know that it requires feedback from an enabled device before it will allow full power. I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of that feedback from the N5X was limiting current from the charger, but it definitely looks like a quality cable is the first step to success. Notice how thick the factory LG cable is...
Most cables limit current by a significant amount. Even factory ones. That's why the OnePlus One charger was so popular. The wall dongle was nothing special (2.0A) but the cable was thick enough to actually let it output that current. The only difference now is that our phone will actually tell us if it's hooked up to a crappy charger/cable.

Thanks, I know QC is not supported, I was just offering up that I tried one, and that I tried multiple charges that support 2.1A charging.
Interestingly enough, if I use either of the QC certified chargers that I got along with my S6 (which only output 2A) I get rapid charging. Using an Anker QC charger (also 2A) I don't, and using a different charger (can't remember the brand at the moment, but also 2A, but not QC), I also get slow charging.

I actually have the qc3 wall charger. So far it's charging pretty fast on my s7. Agree with other posters that the quality seems really good. Will know how it compares to stock when I get the HTC 10.
Yeah their quality is great. They were the first to come out with a good USB type C wall charger for the Nexus 6p
They're just a little bit logo happy.

Why on earth would a charger need that..
To me they just look like another chinese manufacturer.
Atleast have the brains to use appropriate logos so they'd be semi passable, like I don't know TÜV or UL and so forth..
And, of course, they're nowhere to be seen on Qualcomm's certified accessories list. Not even any QC2.0..
P.S. I did apply for testing, they sent me an email, I replied. Let's see if they send something lol. I'm not a liar so I'm gonna be honest if I do get their stuff for review
Yer they look decent I already have some of their usb c cables, I've just ordered the qc 3 portable charger from them aswell so il review them all and see how get on. But yer they make no mention of favourable reviews they just want a review, which means they are confident in their products which hopefully means they are good

My question is, say I buy a wall charger or a car charger that supports QC 3.0); will it charge my type C phone (say an LG G5 or an HTC 10) as fast with the QC 3.0 technology using a type A to type C cable? I know if I charge a type C device using only type c it will get me faster charges, but if I do type A to type C (with QC 3.0) with the right charger will I still get the best results?

type A to type c wil reduce charging times even with 3.0. I went with these cables and for a car charger I got this one both should give the rapid charging.

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure. I think the HTC 10 charger comes with 3.0 quick charge, but it is a type A to type C.
I actually just got my QC 3.0 Powerbank from Choetech and I love it. Charges everything fast just like the spec allows for, and has a great build quality. One small thing I like is that when fast charging, the first light to the left switches from blue to green to indicate that. I just appreciate the assurance that my device is gonna be juiced up quick. The only thing that's odd about it is that you need to press the power button for charging to begin. I'd prefer it to just start when a device is connected, but that's my personal preference.
Overall I still really like the thing, great to have a powerbank that charges just as fast as my wall charger, before I was stuck with one that didn't have and QC capability. I'll include some pics below.
If anyone has any questions about it, let me know. Should also be getting a 6 port QC 3 charger from them soon too, will post on here when I do.

I was looking at this on Amazon last night, but they don't seem to be on Qualcomm's official partner list, which makes me a bit nervous for my battery (which I'm not super impressed with anyway so far - one of the reasons I was looking at the power bank). Do either the phone or the charger get hot while charging? The HTC QC3 charger seems to prevent overheating.

They aren't, but speeds have been up to par with what I'd expect from QC3 so far so I haven't had problems with it. The charger gets warm after a bit, as does the phone (warmer than with stock charger) but also nowhere near as much as the M9 would when charging. Don't know if you've used that before, but when charging regularly it would get so hot that it had to stop, and that's even with screen off. It was crazy bad at charging, which is a thing I never thought I'd say about a 2015 flagship....so I'm glad the 10 is better in that regard, at least. I'd imagine almost any third party charger is gonna make the phone hotter than the OEM one will, but I didn't have a problem with the heat it generated, overall.

Im still waiting for the main qc 3.0 to arrive from china, but i also got the choetech qc3 portable charger and it works great.
Im just waiting for my usb multireader to come and il check out the voltages etc.. just to double check its all safe, but i've had choetech stuff in the past and had

Hey guys! I've been a long time lurker and finally have decided to come out of the woods and get some help.
I'm looking to order all my accessories today however I want to make sure I'm getting what I need so I don't have to go back and buy different cords.
I guess my first question is: Will a USB C to USB C cable charge faster than a USB A to USB C cable? Or does it all depend on the wall/car adapter?
I was hoping to buy 3 USB C to USB C cable with an extra wall adapter and car adapter. The whole USB C and QC 3.0 discussion has confused me like many others. What do I need? This is what I was looking at getting:

So you use USB A to USB C? There won't be a noticeable difference between the charge times if using a USB C to USB C cable?
type a to c "may" limit speeds in some situations. like this car charger you wont get the quick charge from they type A to C but if you use the type c to c in the other port youll get the speeds with say these cables here
The phone can't support two USB specs simultaneously because that's a direct violation of the spec. If you use a C-C cable with a charger that outputs via QC 2.0/3.0 then it will charge at QC 2.0/3.0 speeds. On the other hand if you use a charger that is for the Nexus 5X/6P which outputs using the USB-C charging spec (5V/3A: 15W) then it will charge slowly at 1.5 A not fast charge. This is because it can only support one standard or the other no both, so I recommend just getting QC 2.0 or 3.0 chargers and use whatever port they offer. It could either use a conventional USB-A or the USB-C as long as you use the appropriate cable and the charger spec matches your phone (Qualcomm quick charge), then there won't be any issues.

Ahhh that makes sense. Perfect response! So I'll plan on getting QC 3.0 chargers and just match the appropriate cables. It will probably come out to be cheaper this way as well.

Not a problem, I actually wrote up an OP showing the expected charging speeds via different charging methods across the devices that I own. QC 3.0 isn't faster than QC 2.0, but to conclusively prove that I will add a QC 2.0 test conducted with my HTC 10 to my OP linked below. Since I own a Nexus 6P, and S7 Edge so it's easier for me to test and check that which is why I mentioned it in my comment.

I just finished testing the charging speed using a QC 2.0 charger and the results were very interesting. I'll post them up tomorrow, but I don't see what the big deal about QC 3.0 is.

Qualcomm claimed that it was faster.
Even being more efficient, it should be at least a little faster and produce less heat... both of which are good things.

I posted a picture from Qualcomm where they state QC 3.0 is faster. In reality QC 3.0 is not faster, or even better from what I've seen so fsr. I didn't notice a difference in the amount of heat generated, technically the higher the volatge and lower the rate will result in a cooler phone but QC3.0 does the opposite.
Here is the slide from Qualcomm again where they say it's faster.
It's just 10% faster. You will be hard pressed to see these 10% in real life scenarios.
When they are saying it is less heat dissipation they are talking about the charger. The efficiency of power transfer is in the charger.

It doesn't even charge 1% faster, in fact it's slower. There wasn't a noticeable difference in heat when I tested it. I didn't actually measure the temperature because I don't think an app will accurate depict the temps, but I can to see if it is cooler. QC 3.0 isn't all its hyped up to be unless something changes I don't think it's really all that great.
I tested out of curiosity the charger from the Note4 (QC2.0) and it is fast as well .. but I could not see any noticeable difference. ... Then again, my phone is just 4 days old so the battery is not up to speed (it requires about 5-6 cycles for a Li-Ion to get to the full potential). Maybe you are right, maybe I'm right .. I do not know yet.
However, if I reach a definitive conclusion with my gear I'll post it here.

I've verified that more or less with my testing so for better or worse we have QC 3.0 if you choose to use it.
Just wanted to post a short review on the CHOETECH 6 Port charger. Model Q3-4U2Q
For full disclosure I received a discount on the item if I would post an honest review of the item on Amazon. I still paid a fair price and there was actually no guarantee for them I would even post any review let alone a positive one. Fair enough... It was well timed for me having just gotten my HTC 10 so I thought I would share some of my findings.
I'm currently using it with the Belkin USB-C usb 3.1 cable that can be found at walmart. This charger has 6 USB ports (2 QC 3.0 and 4 smart sensing ports). With my aforementioned cable I get the same if not better charge time than I did with my HTC provided qc 3.0 charger. No heat. No warnings. No funkiness. Which is big given some of the recent hot phone posts I've been reading. One other non-HTC thing that surprised me is that this charger also plays nice (even though they posted a warning it might not) with the Moto X pure 2015. I was able to quick charge both my Moto X pure and my HTC 10 at the same time off the same charger!
I had been wanting to replace my power strip full of chargers with a single block on my night stand for a long time. No longer have trip lines all over the place. Also have a single efficiency power supply now instead of 5 different ones all burning juice whether used or not. If you are looking for this type of solution to replace your many chargers, this one I can recommend.

I just want to follow up on @dottat's review. I got my 6 port charging dock over the weekend, and am extremely happy with it. I was able to clean up my mess of cables for charging all of my devices, and the QC3.0 ports work great with my QC2.0 and 3.0 devices.
I was lucky and received a USB C cable with my dock, but that might have been an abnormal case, since most people have been getting micro-USB cables instead.
If you don't have any qc3.0 chargers already, I would highly recommend this over a standard wall plug, as it is well worth the price difference.

To add to @dottat review I was sent a charger from Choetech at a discount in exchange for my unbiased review.
The adoption of QC 3.0 in flagships this year (aside from the S7/S7 Edge) has created a market for accessories to meet this standard. My HTC 10 supports QC 3.0 thankfully, so this hub will allow my phone to take full advantage of that capability while still allowing my S7 Edge to charge via QC 2.0 over the other QC port due to the backwards compatibility Qualcomm has.
Each of the two QC 3.0 ports are clearly marked with a signature blue to make the easier to find. Choetech also has them on one side so you know exactly where to find them if you need. Along the front you will also find a nice softly lit blue LED indicator light that turns on when the hub is plugged into the wall.
I was able to quick charge both my HTC 10 and S7 Edge via the hub while also having both my Nexus 6P’s charge at 5V/1.5A over the standard smart ports. This is about the limit of the hub given how each QC port can output 18W max, while the smartports each can offer 12W if the device can pull that much power over the 5V port. Given the 18W per QC port while the two phones are charging and 7.5W per Nexus phone from the smart ports that would be about 45W if all of the devices were pulling the maximum amount of power from each port simultaneously. In reality the devices will fluctuate the amount of power, so you shouldn’t have any issues charging multiple devices fast with this hub.
On the build side of things Choetech never disappoints with their solid construction, soft feel finish, and compact design. I own a QC 2.0 version of this same hub that sat on my TV stand for a while before being replaced by the Type-C hub I also reviewed. This particular one is sitting on my desk powering a wireless fast charger for my S7 Edge, my HTC 10, Logitech MX Master mouse, LG Tone Platinum headphones, and anything else that I need to charge.

I'm very happy with it. There was a coupon when I got it. I just wish I would have purchased one more sooner with USB C port. When I'm charging in the HTC 10 nearly dead battery It's saved me several times and the quick charge 3.0 is very very quick. I like have spare ports. Solid build quality. Excellent product. It's a great hub. I charge my phone at fasted speeds but mostly I use it for gaming. I have my ps4 controller being charged as I play and phone stay charged with it.

Just received my unit today and it couldn't have come at a better time! First off the build quality is great, and it has a very nice weight to it. You don't have to worry about it sliding all over the desk either. I only have the HTC usb type C cable right now and it works flawlessly with it, and I have another cable coming from Amazon so we will see how it works with that. It charges the HTC 10 just as fast as the charging brick that it comes with. This desktop charger is perfect for my desk and all of the gadgets I have and although I received it at a 70% discount I wouldn't hesitate to buy it at full price. If you have a HTC 10 and are worried about buying a charger that won't take advantage of the quick charge 3.0 on your HTC 10 then this is exactly what you need. The only con I can think of is that it doesn't come with a USB type C cable but it does come with a nice quality micro usb cable.
I received this charger, and it works great. Small and compact, and charges by devices very quickly. I recommend it highly.
I'd also like to add to this review. I received this desktop charging station at a discount for an honest review. I've gotta say I've been really impressed with Choetech products, and this is no exception. It comes in a clean minimal looking box, open the cardboard and you get the 6 port hub, the power wire, a nice, thick micro usb cable, and even better a nice hub stand, which is a nice thought for those of us who hate having things topple over.
I've tested this on an LG G5 and the HTC 10, the hub has quick charge 3.0, actually has two of them, while the other 4 ports are nice smart ports capable of 2.4A output. It charges at quick charge 3.0 no problem, even using both ports (highlighted by blue ports) at the same time. Meanwhile the other 4 ports can easily charge other devices at basically max speed (2.4a) for those with iPads/tablets and/or other phones like iPhones.
I took this with me on vacation with my family, and it was super convenient being able to basically charge all our devices at the same time no problem. It never got hot, and the stand was a nice touch. I highly recommend it.

I have ordered the CHOETECH 6 -port desktop charger for my devices and specifically for the HTC 10 because it supports the latest Quick Charge 3.0 technology .
The unit has a nice size . It is small and does not need much space . It has an output power of 50 watts. Thus, several devices can be charged together easily . By QC3.0 slot it charges my HTC 10 in about the same time as using the supplied AC adapter from HTC . It has 2 Quick Charge ports and 4 normal USB ports to charge the device . Moreover, it remains a USB Type C cable included .
It helps the clutter and the vast amounts of network devices that you already have to be replaced by a single one .

Here is my review for the CHOETECH QC 3.0 6-Port USB Charger that I also left on Amazon.
I tested this Quick Charge 3.0 CHOETECH wall charger with my new HTC 10. I am happy to report that so far this charger has charged my HTC 10 at the same speeds (if not better) than my stock HTC 10 charger. This charger is MUCH better than my stock HTC 10 charger though, because it includes 1 EXTRA Quick Charge 3.0 port and 4 Auto Detect ports! I now have this as my main charger for my HTC 10, work iPhone, N3DS, and Power Bank. I highly recommend this charger!
Pros:
- 2 QC 3.0 Ports + 4 Smart Ports = 6 Total Ports!
- Small enough to carry while traveling
- Frees up space on my power strip now that I can plug most of my devices into this wall charger
- Bonus: Comes with a nice micro USB cable!

I have received this product for free or discounted price for my unbiased review. This does not affect my review score, as I try to review each item honestly.
Like others on here, I did receive this item for a discounted price, but had no real expectations of it beforehand. Having used it for a few days now, I'm very impressed. It's quite a small unit and only requires a small 2 pin power lead, so you don't really have many trailing cables being plugged into the mains. Been using it charge various devices at the same time and had no issue with charging on any of them. At any one time I've had a Nexus 6P, HTC 10 and an iPad mini plugged in to it and all have charged at relatively the same time it would on a normal charger.
My only downside is that it doesn't support rapid charging for the Nexus 6P, however that would be picking small faults with quite an impressive device.

It'd be perfect if the UK didn't use mains plugs the size of a small family car. Mind, I can hardly blame Choetech for that. Truth is, their UK mains plug is about as small as it can be. If I could find one, I'd attach a picture of a UK plug so those who aren't familiar with it can see just how big it is.

I too got one of those Power Stations for Discounted Price in exchange for review. I compared to other Chargers as a baseline in terms of Current Drawn by the phone.
For the purpose of Test, I used my LG G4 (Qualcomm Snapdragon 808) which supports Quick Charge 2.0. The technology is backward compatible. In order to minimize the variables in the Testing, I have used one Cable for all the Testing across Charges as well as both devices. I used the free Ampere app to measure the Current drawn by the Battery. Screenshots are attached. In addition, I kept the devices Idle for the purpose of testing. This would eliminate any In Use changes of current Drawn.
The G4's Stock LG Charger is Qualcomm Quick Charge Compliant. When I started to charge, the phone's battery was at 34 %. I typically let the battery die to about 5 to 8% before plugging in. But in this case I didn't want Android Battery Saver to kick in and throttle CPU. So I plugged in at 34 %. When plugging into Quick Charge Port, the Max Current was registered at 1000 mA. This was same as the LG Stock Charger. I also compared against another Charger that was not Quick Charge as well as a 4th one that was Quick Charge as well. The Non-Quick Charge charger registered 780 mA.
Conclusion - With the Quick Charge Port, the current drawn is in line with the LG Stock Charger. However the one one for Normal port predictably drops down in comparison. Also at lower levels of the battery, Current drawn from the Quick Charge Port is much higher, just like in case of Stock Charge. However it drops to lower values as Battery nears completion. The current from Normal port nearly remains the same irrespective of battery levels.
Just going to give my thoughts on this charger.
The charger seems to be well made, and has plenty of power to support multiple devices charging simultaneously.
Testing with my Nexus 5X and USB Doctor, I get just under 1.9A and just over 5V which about what is expected.
Tests on the QC3.0 compatible Axon 7 results in the much faster quick charging which is expected as well.
So overall, the charger does it's job.
What surprised me the most was the little things they added to make the product feel more premium then it's competitors. The charger is encased in a soft plastic that has a nice tactile feel. It also comes with a nice stand and a USB A-C cable. The LED on the charger is a soft glow instead of the blinding glare that you often see on other electronics.
Given the cost, it's probably one of the best bang for buck charging stations compared to it's competitors. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a USB charging station with QC3.
I bought one of these new off of ebay and I"am using it with my unlocked Htc 10 I have a question, isn't your Htc 10 supposed to pick this up as a quick charger ? I see the specs list 2 ports are 3.0 and I tried all the ports and my unlocked 10 does not show rapid charger connected when I plug it in to any of the 6 ports ? I do have a CHOETECH 30 watt 12 volt car charger and when I plug it in my 10 does show quick charger connected but it does not for this 6 port 50 watt charger ? Anyone have theirs show as quick charger connected when plugging in to any of the 6 ports on this charger ?

So your htc 10 shows quick charger connected when you plug it in to one of the quick charge ports ? Mine does not and the same cable when used with my oem Htc quick charger it does show quick charger connected. Maybe mine is defective then ?

Yeah I shows for me, using it as I type. Also in a few pictures in previous posts people have screens of it displaying
So I was charging my phone like usual. And I was slightly aware that there was a compatibility issue between QC 3.0 and Type-C.
HOWEVER, tonight at about 12amish GMT. I kept smelling a burning smell... Which I thought it was my cat. but then when I decided to charge my phone using my Lumia 950 XL charger. I discovered the port had been burnt, and the cape and phone where burning ****ing hot! I felt the type-c plug from the charge against my top-lip and I got burnt...
I'm writing this a bit panic-y as I want everyone to just know TO BE CAREFUL. I'm not sure what exactly caused this as I have looked after the phone as if its my baby. Always case and a screen protector. I have a feeling this is down to compatibility!?
Anyone with similar issues, suggestions or such?

The Lumia is c to c right? If so, yeah there were lots of reported issues where people used various c to c cables with a c brick (most were pixel or nexus chargers that I saw) that had the same issues you did. Think it ended up being that the 10 doesn't have the right safe checks in place to stop charging at 100%, and it just keeps trying to push 3 amps even when fully charged (could be wrong about that though)

mmm.. the phone was charging from almost nothing... I think I was charging it from about 20% using a zuk z1 cable plugged into my computer that was connected to a usb 3.0 port. the cable is 3.0 standard and the phone is 3.1 if I rememeber

You don't Push Amps, you pull em, you Push Voltage.
The phone decides how much amps it wants to draw.
More likely missing cables inside the cable or bad quality Connector.
Was it an original Microsoft Cable from the 950 or bought afterwards?
P.S can't see the pictures. Just my bad Internet?

doesn't appear the image tag correctly grabbed the microsoft drive images so i deleted the image format. Downside is you can't see them inline.. but the upside is you can click them to see em..

UPDATE: ok so, I've taken it back to the place I brought it from and they sent it to the repair centre (carphone warehouse). They've turned round and said tis water damage but I disagree as I do not like to keep my gadgets in places that are potential for issues. Will be taking it up with the shop. failing that, Trading Standards.

I had a ps4 controller do the same thing. it was cause by the cable was not 100% plugged into the controller port. it was still able to charge a bit but after awhile I noticed a burning smell... same results

By any chance green oxidation would indicate electrical corrosion from shorting of the contacts?

Benson Leung warned people, that type c to type c charging should be avoided.
Even HTC10 does not follow the official usb specification and uses QC so best any user can do, i using legacy USB type A to type c cable and using charger with USB A output port. Also all cables must have 56k ohm resistor, cheap one come with 11k resistor and could damage power charger or the device. Check Bensons google+, he even linked to Tronsmart chargers which were out of specification and should be avoided.

Yeh, I became aware of this when the QC3.0 was released. Though, my assumption was because I'm connecting between usb type-c to the phones type-c it wouldn't charge off the QC3.0 standard.
Initially, I was using the Nokia type-C charger which came with my Lumia 950XL. It charges at 15 Watts (5V, 3.0A). I had used this the majority of the time and hadn't gone wrong. Sometimes I'd use a portable battery charge which charged at a generic 5V 2A AND a Samsung nexus 10 charger which was a usb female and charged a the same rate.
I would've assumed (also judging from the new releases by QUALCOMM) that QC3.0 phones would either charge of USB standard OR take advantage of QC. I've never used type-c to type-c charging only because I never had the capability. There is a slider in the settings menu to use USB3.1 standard but again, never used it. always done this through a usb3.0 to usb type-c cable.
HTC10 charges normaly from any standard legacy USB port like your old HTC M7 usb wall charger or notebook usb ports. QC3.0 uses data lines in usb cable to provide power and this method is not approved by the USB consortium, thats why you can not also communicate with your phone in QC3.0 mode, because there is no free lines for data left. You can either fast charge, or switch to standard usb mode and transfer files without QC3.0.
USB TypeC standard forbids strictly manouvers over the cable like QC does. For this, the newest Chromebooks and Nexus uses approved USB Power Delivery.
The "problem" was, that Qualcomm is also part of research and development of USB Power Delivery but yet, they in the same time were developing QC3.0. Was it for pure marketing purpose or to fill the gap between USB PD going live, we can not tell.
The only way now to end this confusion is to wait for Qualcomm to switch for USB PD as a successor of QC3.0 because there is really no point of two competing charging standards which one is spec certified and the other is not.

No, you must understand how usb and QC3 works. I will try to explain it as simply as I can.
Legacy USB have 4 cables inside, two for data transfer, one for curent and one for ground.
If you plug your phone to the usb in notebook, you can charge and transfer data in the same time.
What QC3.0 does, it is using the data paths for providing additional power, so when you plug it to your QC3 charger, it uses all the data routes/cables in USB only for additional and faster charging, so the data connection is blocked in this mode.
Ok, just came back from Carphone Warehouse. It looks as if the phone has corroded more during the time I've given it to them and the time its taken for it too come back.
The colour of the corrosion was of a greenish hue.

I'm awar eof this, but my question is if it can be disabled on the phone or not.
Never heard of disabling QC. I do not think that HTC will provide any tool to disable built in chipset feature.
