I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-I747). It was running fine on CM13 nightlies. One night I needed the phone for calculator (odd enough lol) and noticed it was turned off. I turned it back on. It seemed like it was just gonna boot like it usually does but I got a bootup message claiming that the /data partition is corrupted and needs to be reset to continue using the phone.
I followed the phones instructions and did the reset (I've had to factory reset before I really didn't care). It booted to TWRP (3.0.2-0) and started the factory reset. The log for the recovery showed many errors. Heres the log if I just boot into TWRP without doing anything:
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]Failed to mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
Failed to mount '/data' (No such file or directory)[/COLOR]
[COLOR="red"]Unable to recreate /data/media folder.[/COLOR]
Updating partition details...
[COLOR="red"]Unable to mount '/data' (No such file or directory)[/COLOR]
...done
[COLOR="red"]Unable to mount storage
Failed to mount '/data' (No such file or directory)[/COLOR]
Full SELinux support is present.
Running boot script...
Done.
[COLOR="red"]Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps[/COLOR]
MTP Enabled
[COLOR="red"]Failed to mount '/data' (No such file or directory)[/COLOR]
The same errors pop up when wiping the device too.
Here's what i've tried:
The corrupt data reset (didn't work)
Reinstalling a new copy of CM13 (didn't help)
I also have tried flashing stock images (AT&T) firmware. Did not work, the AT&T system says the /data partition is corrupted too and cannot do anything about it.
NOTE: The /data partition info in TWRP shows the size as 0MB!
I've posted for help on the cyanogenmod forums but no avail so far. I do not what to do next and need some suggestions.
Thanks.
Have you tried Odin to flash the stock firmware?

That's what I used to get the stock firmware on it in the first place...
I'm still learning how to mod and customise android so I completely missed this.
The fix was as simple as changing the filesystem into a different format on TWRP..

I've already looked through previous posts and there seems to be no avail.
From 4.1.2. stock build, UVDMD5, (I'm assuming, that's when I bought it)
I tried to flash 4.4 ROMS onto it, Both Gummy and Beanstalk with their respective Gapps.
It wouldn't work and I wiped and reset and odin'd in the original firmware UVDMD5, so it successfully led to the beginning phone setup ONCE.
Then, from stock, I figured why not root and flash the ROMS once more? and this time, the galaxy would not have it.
I odin'd myself after the roms failed once more, but now..
Now the phone is stuck at the SAMSUNG loading boot screen.
Everytime I odin in the UVDMD5 setup, it says it's successful but constantly stuck at the boot screen.
I can get myself into recovery but no options are available to me.
If I try to progress forward, the roms will not work and I realized what might've done me in.
Once the roms in the very first trials wouldn't work, I messed with the mounting to see if it would change anything(HUGE mistake I now realize)
I think I unmounted /data and /system and pretty much everything!!!
I'm in the stock recovery so I could pull .zips from the external SD and I've tried to put in Cyanogenmod Recovery so I could get to the mounting options,
but now everytime it says that signature verification failed.
Tl;dr: I'm an idiot and unmounted everything and now it's stuck at boot screen and odin doesn't work. PLS HELP!
ps: ignore the ageold signature
First flash the very latest Recovery with ODIN. You will need to put the phone in download mode to do that. Next, flash Root66 version of UVDMD5 via odin and then flash Rom of your choice via Recovery.
I've taken the root66 and finished odin'ing it in, but no success. It's still stuck on the SAMSUNG screen.
When I boot up to (stock) recovery, the first red messages that appear is
E:failed to mount /data
can't mount '/data' (invalid argument)
and when I go into >apply update from external storage and try to apply cyanogen latest recovery,
all it gives me is E:failed to verify whole-file storage.
There is no /data, what do I do?
Please flash CWM Recovery via Odin.
First of all, thanks for sticking with me for this long.
I successfully installed Clockwork with odin and I thought this would be the end, but
It successfully mounted /system and /external_sd but,
Error mounting /data!
Error mounting /sdcard!
I don't know what to do from here. Is there a simple fix?
Did you flash latest version of CWM ? If yes then try Factory Reset in the Recovery.
I did factory reset it:
. . wiping data . .
formatting /data . . .
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format . . .
Formatting /cache
Formatting /sd-ext
Formatting /sdcard/ .android_secure
Error mounting /sdcard/ .android_secure!
Skipping format . . .
Data Wipe Complete.
Is what shows up and still /data and /sdcard cannot be mounted. Anything else? I'm desperate.
Part 2: I tried moving past all that and tried to run the ROMS, but it goes on to tell me:
This package is for "d2tmo" devices; this is a "d2vzw"
what does that mean?
Can you manually mount SD Card in the Recovery ?
I'd not try any roms until this issue is resolved.
What do you mean by manually?
The external sd card can be mounted, I'm pretty sure it means that the internal sd can't be mounted.
How would I mount internal in recovery? the options says it can't mount /data and /sdcard
Try TWRP Recovery.
Hello,
I changed LCD display on my i9195 phone, and after replacement, when I tried to put this phone on, it stucks on bootloop.
So, when i put phone on, it vibrate, logo Samsung Galaxy S4 mini appear and it goes off, 2 x vibrate and reset again.
I tried to flash 2 stock roms, but it didn´t helped.
Then, in CWM i found some interesting texts:
Wipe cache partition
--Wiping Cache..
Formating /cache
Cache wipe completed
Wipe data/factory reset
--Wiping data...
Formating /data
Error mounting /data
Skipping format...
Formatting /cache
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sd-card/ .android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe completed.

W: faild to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata (File exists)
When i try to "mount /data "
Error mounting /data
I also tried two times to "install" .pit file via odin, but it didn´t helped.
So, there is no /scdard and /data anymore! I can´t even try to install zip from /sdcard. Flash stock rom didn´t help. New .pit file didn´t help.
Could you please help me? Many thanks.
Simply flash a stock ROM, do not check "repartition"!!! No need of PIT file. After flashing process will be done phone will reboot and make a wipe by itself. Then it will reboot automatically. But, it won`t boot, and you`ll get a freezed "Samsung" text. Simply turn off the phone by long pushing of the power button/ or pull battery out. Then boot your phone to recovery and make a wipe/factory reset, then reboot your phone. Enjoy.

You could look into the s4 mini general forum for my unbrick thread I hope it helps report back

djtyta : I tried this with 2 stock roms, and it didn´t work.
Aronuser: I found your unbrick topic before i wrote here, but it didn´t work as well.
Anyway, many thanks for response.
So, after 8 hours of scouting, what it could be. I flashed kernel and it works now.
But i found another problem. Touch display doesn´t work. Power button, volume button and bottom buttons(menu, home, back) works.
Any solutions? Many thanks.

Which kernel did you use?
Managed to solve the problem of touch?
Hello everyone,
I have a little problem with TWRP on my LG G3 (D855, 32 GB).
I installed TWRP two months ago and flashed CyanogenMod 12.1.
Now I've noticed that TWRP (2.8.6.0) shows the Internal Storage with 0MB.
When I tap the middle Icon on the bottom of the TWRP Main screen, I get an (maybe helpful?) output:
Code:
E: Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to mount '/data'
...done
E: Unable to mount storage
E: Unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup.
Full SELinux support is present.
E: Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps when trying to read settings file.
E: Unable to mount '/data'
MTP Enabled
I'm a bit confused. Could this be, because I used CyanogenMod's Device Encryption?
I'm planning on reverting to Stock Rom (...i quite liked it. And considering the camera quality, CM isn't really any better), but i fear this (or flashing anything different) could brick my phone, since there seems to be something strange.
Is there any way to debug or even fix this?
Is it safe to revert to Stock, when TWRP doesn't even detect the Internal Storage? (following this Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089)
I'd be glad about any help oder hint, about how to proceed. Thanks in advance!
First, update your TWRP version to 2.8.7.0 (available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-2-8-2-0-t2966129 )
Then, boot into TWRP, go to Wipe and choose "Format Data".
After done that, reboot your device into recovery again.
Thank you very much. I will try this.
i had that , but dont remember what i did ,, but i do know you need to format , by fastboot or twrp and repair partitions
It happens often to me when I upgrade.
I use 3 phones: Xperia Z2, LG G3, Samsung Galaxy S2 and when I've updated to Lollipop it happened all three times.
Recently I noticed that also on the S2 happened this and I suppose it's because partitions are not initialized.
I was unable to write to internal partition (0 MB) and I've solve this way:
I've flashed CyanogenMod, mounted the internal memory as flashdrive under windows and simply formated it.
When I've disconnected the phone from the pc, Android was able to write normally to the internal storage and everything worked like a charm.
I know it's not possible (AFAIK) to mount internal memory on stock roms as Mass Storage, but perhaps someone will point you on how to correctly fix partitions without using my method.
Looks like Kill Switch Wiped
Did you find any solution, even i am struggling with same problem. I think LG G3 has kill switch that wiped out everything, but not sure just guess.
Have same problem any help?
My Note2 had seen file system related issues (sd card directories renamed to u..., etc.) and finally it stalled at the Samsung logo one night. Booted into recovery and seeing "failed to mount /efs", also /system, /cache, and /data.
Any suggestions? I tried Kies but no luck, I guess the Samsung tech in Bestbuy probably did the same thing. I've been reading through this forum and found this file Stock_Partitions_N7105_T889.zip. Could I just use this without reflash the OS? If so, how? Hopefully I could get back some of the files on the phone. I haven't tried Odin or twrp, or root the phone yet.
Thanks in advance.
Flash TWRP using Odin. Boot into TWRP and see if you can pull off your data. If TWRP mounts the data partiton and you cannot find any files, you may be out of luck.
If you decide to live without the phone's data, you could try to revive the phone by flashing a stock ROM from sammobile.com using Odin.
I have installed android O and have TWRP installed but when i try and flash Super SU through TWRP it fails and does not root, i dont know why or if ayone else has experienced this problem on the A5 2017 but if someone has and knows how to fix it please let me know

What error do you get while installing in twrp. send logs screenshots
Btw you have to be patient mate. It takes time for people to understand your problem and find solution
You can try magisk also if you want

it wont mount data and then when it mounts it spits out an error saying it cant patch the ram disk, also i have had it too many times where i have asked a question just to have it ignored to this day
Your device is encrypted, you need to format data to decrypt device and flash root and flash the zip to disable encryption, dont know where the zip file is.

if i disable encryption then safety check will always fail. i didn't have to earlier but every time i delete data and try it fails saying ram disk cant be patched or restored
I have the same issue as jfk999 except having data wiped, i have tried everything i know and so far to no avail. last time i isued the no encrypt zip it broke safety net and most of my apps including the phones stability. https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series-2017/help/root-issues-oreo-t3800852

SuperSU isn't really compatible with Oreo as it needs some patches to work which it's unlikely to get.
Magisk is now the premier root solution and the most up to date for Oreo and includes the relevant patches.

Failed in what way?
If you have an app that has issues then you need to notify the developer of that app.
Failing in patching ramdisk points to possible error in boot image. You can try the method given by moozer in my post that helped me patch the boot image.I guess that would solve your problems
Also try starting from scratch..try downloading clean rom from sammobile and start over.
Hope that helps
