Hello i want to ask, especially rom developer
in Google nexus community indonesia
there are some people using this ROM for nexus 5x
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-euclidean-os-t3473622
and edit the build prop to pixel
got the recognize as pixel phone on google photos and get unlimited storage
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+BayuFauzi/posts/WzekibCvPRa?cfem=1
if someone can figure it out what makes that rom special and spoof google photos
maybe it can be ported to our nexus 5x too
thanks
Um, I think we have that option on PN 7.0 atm. At least last night I was looking at the settings of my photo album and had that option.
It shows in the attachment. But I am not sure if it truly is unlimited storage.

that is unlimited but the images that get uploaded is not on 'original' quality, instead it uploads 'compressed' version of the picture. Pixel is the only one with unlimited storage on 'original' quality.
For me it detects that my phone is pixel, and syncing original quality photos, but it is taking my drive space, and i can't change it to "high quality (compressed)".

It must be combination of build.prop and meta data in photos...
My friend, u can get the unlimited storage for photos in any Android devices or any Android versions or roms!!!!!, it just depends on the quality of photo backup sync that u choose, if u choose the original quality you will have only the rest of the original free storage that google gave u (15g) but if u choose to back up only with the high quality instead of the original quality you will get the unlimited free storage automaticaly!!!!

Yeah but that's not what he was asking for. He's asking about the possibility of unlimited original quality like the Pixel but on our 5X.

I have this in my guide post but thought it needed its own post. If you have a capped data plan then you definetely need to check this out.
It has basically turned my 4GB plan into a 20GB plan!
The SuperUser's Guide: How To Extend Your Data Plan
Onavo Extend lets you get more out of your data plan, so you can do more web browsing and apps, consume more music, video and photos on 3G without breaking your data cap.
After you install Onavo Extend you can go back to using your phone or tablet as before. In the background, data usage from all apps and web browsing is compressed so that you do more with your Android’s mobile data month after month. And, if you travel abroad with your phone, the money you save could be substantial.
IF YOU'VE INSTALLED A CUSTOM ROM:
Some ROMs and kernels are missing important networking support that Android 4.0 APIs, and Onavo Extend, rely on.
If you've received a message saying your version of Android is unsupported, or if the application always says "service paused", please contact us via the "Feedback" menu item so we can help.
Trying a different ROM or kernel should help as well
Be sure to post your results! Be sure to include which ROM you are using!
Woow !! i download the app now & i'll report back later

no worries, it works though. Look at it this way, what do you have to lose?
I have verified it is working for me with 3rd party data trackers, and Verizon's own data tracker.
The great thing about it is you can turn it on and off. It also turns itself off when you are on wifi.
After running it for a week while I was on vacation and used very little wifi I definitely noticed a difference. I watched a Netflix episode of IT crowd, and few YouTube videos and saved over 1MB of data.
I have used it with news apps, Facebook, twitter, Netflix, YouTube, radarscope, weather bug, instagram, and mms pics.
The only issue I ran into was on the local news 9 app. Some images appeared as black boxes. If I adjust the photo quality to higher the images appear just fine though.

Thanks for bringing this up - looks good, will try it out!
Good review here, showing how it works and stuff:
http://android.appstorm.net/how-to/internet/how-to-double-your-data-plan-for-free-with-onavo-extend/
edit: @Dakota - forgive me if this is the same information in your Superuser guide - I cant check as the guide appears to be blocked on my work comp
may save you data, but I wouldn't trust any app that you have to give full access to your network traffic. Looks like spyware to me.

1 Megabyte?
I'm sorry, but i'm calling bull**** on that. There's no way on this planet that anything would compress a half hour episode down to that little.
I'm sure it probably works to some degree and compresses the data in a similar way to opera mini and skyfire and various other browsers that use proxies to compress stuff, but i think you may have read it wrong to come up with 1MB!

I agree, and even if it was why would a company provide such powerful servers that can do this sort of compression for free? There are only two ways the company could support themselves. 1. Advertisements 2. Sell user data like google does. I don't care about either so I'm downloading it.
I got a 10GB plan so no need for me but just out of curiosity has this worked for anyone?

Well, if you meant to say that you saved over 1 MB, that calls to question how you know this. Did the Onavo app tell you? Did you check the size of the netflix episode and compare your usage? Or some other way?
Also, a netflix episode could range from like 50 (if cropped for small screens/resolutions) to several hundred megs. Saving 1 MB in such a setting is hardly 5x the data, and shouldn't really be worth your time.
Now, I've come across this app before, and there are always people who like it and claim it works. What these people fail to ask themselves is HOW (the hell) it could work. If you think about it, about the only stuff on the web that isn't already pretty heavily compressed are html/text files. And they make up a really tiny part of your overall usage.
Also, compressing stuff is very cpu intensive. Unless ONAVO has a huge server farm somewhere, which processes every bit sent to and from every one of its users (not likely), the compression happens on the fly on each device. Even if that would work, it would really strain the cpu and drain the battery in no time.
Therefore, to quote a wise man, I wouldn't touch this app with a ten foot pole.
Sorry for the long post/rant.
No ones forcing you to try it. But its actually using amazons EC2 stack. Opera browser uses this same thing to save data usage.
Lol do you think this is some conspiracy theory? Onavo doesn't save any data, except if you want email compressed and then its asks for your permission.
Ya on video it didn't save a ton. But it didnt slow down the streaming either. Where I have noticed the most saving is text based apps like tapatalk and news apps.

Well, I should have checked how it actually says it works, mea culpa. Still, the fact holds that 5x savings is a pipe dream in real usage and savings are marginal at best. But if you wanna use it, knock yourself out.

Hello users.
Before I bought the s3 I had the HTC one s. Now I had always used dropbox before this and only a few gigs. I never found any REAL use for it. When I purchased the one S I was given 20gb of space I thought I would have a no problem with space. I only found use for it for the auto cam-upload because I would just delete pics and vids on my phones storage. On the s3 I was given an extra 50gb of space so I have a whopping total of 75gb now with only like 6gb worth of pics in there.
My question is how do you guys use dropbox? I share files and stuff with a friend but I feel like dropbox is just good for this: Pics/vids/file-sharing.
I figured now I can save maybe my nandroid backups and not worry about even having them in my pc. Is this a good idea?
Note: I have about 6-7 gb of internal space and about 6-7gb left on my sd. I don't want to exceed that.
I have the same (btw one s gave you 23gb free and Samsung galaxy s 3 50gb and is only good for two years)
I use it for backups specially for titanium backups, but unless you have tons of videos or rims to upload you probably won't use it much, but still great cloud backup

I also use this. But as I don't trust google+ and dont use it often. I also use the auto camera upload on dropbox.
I use it to store .apk files, wallpaper, pc files that my non-geek friends will need at some point... havent used much space but its easy to use for installing .apk files that i download here and there.
For me sometimes when I flash a Rom the drivers for my device may now work.. drop box is a great way to not only transfer music pics .apk files etc.. but when I was stuck... I was actually able to put a new Rom on my root via drop box... but I'm still waiting for my 50 gigs!

I use mine to share pics and vids of my babyboy to my parents.
`
I have 3 uses no one mentioned, they are all related to security:
1. I have an encrypted KeePass database of all the passwords and user names stored in dropbox.
2. I have a Truecrypt container inside dropbox for storage of confidential information.
3. I have my home security cameras record their pictures into dropbox so even if the security cameras and drive is destroyed I still have a backup. This also lets me check the cameras from my phone.

Dropbox space fix
For all of those having issues with getting your extra 48GB from Samsung for purchasing the S3 ... keep reading!!!
First of all. You must launch Dropbox from the stock pre-installed Samsung rom.
If you flashed a custom rom(like I did) and installed Dropbox from GooglePlay you will not get the bonus.
So what I did is flashed my Nandroid backup I had(which everybody should have) then launched the pre-installed Dropbox app and signed in with my pre-existing Dropbox account.. and right away got the email confirming my extra space.
You also have to complete 5 of the 7 tasks indicated on the main page in order to receive the Samsung bonus. The steps needed to complete that should be on the Dropbox site.
Hope this will help somebody out there
Cheer!
Marc
First, the device no longer displays my google+ backed up photos in my galary. Before, it was under a album named picasa. It doesnt come up with anything else when I select "add online service" except for facebook. Second, there exists a mobile hotspot toggle in my toggles menu. THis no longer pulls up anything. Is their a way to edit what toggles show up? Is their a way to readd mobile hotspot?
Thanks!
The VZW hotspot is an extra fee each month, so I wouldn't worry about it. As for the Google+, just a side effect of the debloat.
Is their any way to return the picasa album to my gallary?

Hate to tell you otherwise, but I am on a tiered plan and have used it since the outcome of the lawsuit without being charged (assuming I don't bust my 8 gigs).
Prior to the lawsuit if you tried it the PC/tablet/WiFi client would enter their captive portal. Now the only people who get that are unlimited data customers.

Unfortunately no (idiot I know). Does anyone have access to the sense apk file?
If you know what apk you are looking for you could download the stock rom, and get a copy of the apk from there. Also with Sense there isnt just one apk file, there are many files that make the Sense UI work.
I see that there is no stock gallery app on this phone. Looks like Google wants you to solely use photos. I almost don't mind, but, I'd really like to manage the pictures and videos that are saved to my phone. Does Google still have one that I can grab even with an apk online? If not, what do you guys and gals recommend?
Please and thanks!

I think the problem is people moving to Google phone after being with phones by LG or Samsung. Not sure when Google officially made the switch over to Photos, but it definitely was around in 2015. When I got the Nexus 6P, I noticed it didn't have a stock gallery app, so it was extremely weird for me at first.

Well, that is true. It defaults to a 'view' mode that sorts each picture by day. However, I have the cloud feature disabled for me, so no data usage. Photos behavior has always been that 'view' mode though.

People are not blinded by this! It is the fack that you are unable to access your album's w/ 1 click & the grid style layout is favorable! And do not touch Google photos if you don't want to bring every photo in existence to your device...but you are unable to force stop & still be able to take a pic! I'll say it again... Google's ability to store & display albums is still lacking.

* The other method where you place a nexus file in the root directory was not possible as the root directory was full, even after deleting some system apps.
