How far back did you come from? Were you on the most recent version up to that point?
Thinking of finally abandoning 13B with the inability to tether reliably (bizarrely). Wi-Fi calling would be a good feature to have, anyway.

Is there information anywhere about which versions are safe to 'Upgrade' to which?
In other words, from 13B do I have to KDZ to 24C to do an 'upgrade' before going to 26A or higher?
Or can 13B fly straight to 27C or 26A with an 'Upgrade'?
I've been reading for hours and can't find folks claiming which versions they were on previously when they went to MM from 13B.

When it comes to upgrading you can go straight to the latest. But be sure you choose referbish so it wipes the device. Not Wiping can cause issues. But you should be able to update your device via OTA or the Verizon software assistant as long as your not rooted. But remember you may not be able to downgrade once you go MM

I couldn't find a back-to-stock guide myself (and when I got to stock 13B, verizon updates seem to fail for some reason anyway) - but I just used the basic KDZ instructions.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803
I got the 13B image from the links floating around. I guess I'm going to use the same links to get 24c and 26c and 27c on the phone. Weird that updates won't work, although I do recall going to great lengths (before doing the KDZ) to make sure automatic updates don't go.
Edit: Also, everyone should be aware:
Every new firmware (including the new 29C that came out yesterday) seem to be available here:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-vs986-firmwares/#comment-539
I can't verify the legitimacy of them other than that I just downloaded 29C and we'll see how she rolls.
Anything we can do to help with rooting this 27c or 29c kids file ? I just got a g4 vs986 27c, and am still reading up about it... What is the kdz, like our version of a .img file that most other Androids use?
Can't we just unpack the file, change permissions and settings then repack it & flash it like any other update?

No. Kdz files are official files from LG. They can't be changed in anyway.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
... But they're a packed file, then, right? Every pack file can be unpacked and repacked. LG probably uses the same pack file and method for all their phones, yeah?

You can unpack it. But you won't be able to repackage it back into a flashable kdz format. You'd be able to turn it into a tot file though.

Well ok then we're in business... We unpack the kdz, root the os files inside, then push all the files into the phone.... Yeah?

I don't see every firmware there. 13b is distinctly missing, as are many others. I see 11a, 26, 25, 29a, and two 27c that appear the same. Does not look like a legit site to me...

Right, I'm new to LG phones (not new to android though).
What's a kdz? Is it like a full software package for LG phones?
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
It's a full original LG ROM image. You can use it with LG Flash Tools to flash your phone. You can read more information about it here (but for now don't use it on the G4 until we know for sure that everything works at it should) -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
My G4 was running 11A (rooted) and I wanted to upgrade to 13B
So follow this steps and you will be able to upgrade.
First make sure your phone is recognized by your PC.
Step 1. Download the 13B KDZ (Full stock image not the rooted) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs986-rooteddebloated-t3256814 (Edit 2 on big red fonts)
Step 2. Download LG Flash Tool from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848
Step 3. Put the phone in download mode.
Step 4. Launch LG Flash tool select the VS98613B_00_ARB02.kdz file you downloaded on step #1.
Step 5. choose CSE Flash, on the pop up window choose start, then click OK and let the phone alone.
You can get some weird popup window that the server is not responding, let that alone. After the progress bar on LG Flash tool finished to 100% the phone will reboot itself and you will be on the Verizon setup screen, if you don't have a verizon sim, then it's going to pop up something saying that it doesn't have a verizon sim or something like that, just ignore and setup the phone using WiFi connection. And thats all. Now you will be on 13B.
DISCLAIMER: this process is done under your responsibility.
Ok in case another newbie wants to do the upgrade, those are the steps. I did it using CSE Flash.

Well mine was rooted also on 11a, so I just flashed the stock 13b and voila, everything was fresh.
So, no you don't need to unroot, you can flash the 13b over your current rooted 11a

To root you need to read the whole post from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/vs986-rooteddebloated-t3256814 there you will find the rooted IMG file that you need.
I'll definitely take this thread's instructions as a shortcut to get the LG G4 up to firmware 13B and then root it. I rather start fresh with 13B rather than carry anything that may have gone wrong with firmware 10B when it was rooted. I also don't care about the vaporware 10B ROM hack.
ok, so it may be a dumb question, so forgive me in advance, I am currently on stock 13b, it is possible to flash the rooted kdz file to obtain root on 13b?
it sounds like it would be too easy and therefore....it might be
also would like to add that i have been following several threads since getting this phone, I appreciate all the hard work and knowledge you guys provide. :good:

Then plug your usb cable to the PC (do not connect to the phone).
Turn off your phone.
Now while holding volume up plug the usb cable to the phone and you will get download mode.
Thx for the guide!!
Im just wondering though, what OS are you running?
I'm on Win 8.1 and am having trouble getting the LG flash tool to start the CSE flash. Ive used this tool before to flash back to stock and dont remember having any issues. But now I have to run the app as administrator and wait like 60 secs to get it to even start. I also noticed this in the LG Flash tool thread

I did it using Win 10, and I start LG flash tool with admin rights.
Not sure if you saw my edit above, but I got everything working.
Anyways,I thought the img we were flashing was already rooted. So I guess its a bit more involved. So let's see if I got this straight.
After following instructions from this thread, all I have is a rootable (but not yet rooted) 13b img.
So the next step is to root it using the low effort root method with the below file
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087013417
But, if for whatever reason, I need to unroot, I need to make a backup of my current system image using this thread below.

I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere --
Is this the technical equivalent of taking the OTA for 13B?
In other words, am I also getting the updated baseband/radio/bootloader by using this KDZ (or whatever the LG equivalents of those things are)?
Or does this just put /system components of 13B on there?

Just wanted everybody to know that you CAN downgrade your MM LG G4 for Verizon by using LGUP.
And this is how...
1). Download all The Files Below!
1) Firmware Files - Click HERE!
Or Here LGKDZ.com for your exact match KDZ for your model
2) Download LG Drivers - LG Drivers Here - 10.9 Mb
2.1)Verizon Drivers (Verizon Only)LG_VZW - 7.8 Mb
3..LGUP can be found on this website LG UP DOWNOAD
You have to sign into one of your accounts and like the page for them to open the downloads in the middle of the page.
4. install the drivers then the .msi file for LGUP. Usually there is a DLL file and the LGUP application, install the .DLL file then install LGUP.
5. First make sure that your phone is showing up on LGUP, if not make sure you have USB debugging enabled and the you are connected with MTP.
6. Find your .kdz file, and don't press start VERY IMPORTANT!!, Exit out of the application and then REOPEN LGUP and your 13b.KDZ should still be in the box at the bottom.
7. Now just press start and wait for it to do it's magic.
And now your back on LL and you can get back to rooting this phone.
And just so people know it is not possible to downgrade from LL to KK, it will brick your phone for some reason, and trust me I had to send mine back and get a knew one, nothing would get it to work again!
So that's how you get back to LL from MM, which seems to be the only way to have root at the moment...
One more thing, I was able to transfer the files for the effortless root on MM but you can't do any send_command.exe commands because it just says FAIL. but it did switch the system software from Official to Modified so it did something just not what I wanted it to do....
If there's anyone wondering why this works, it's because both the 13b and 24c kdz's both have the same qfuse number, so the bootloader accepts both without bricking. If Verizon ever puts out an update that increments the qfuse value and you take it, you won't be able to downgrade to 13b or 24c.
I have the kdz file but it wont let me put it on lgup. It's looking for a .tot file. Help would be greatly appreciated

What you must do is tick the update and select the kdz file. Then close LGUP, open it again and select refurbish and kdz file should be there. Start the load.
This phone with L and root is perfect. No M for me until root (if it happens). Really enjoy having the changed DPI with root and no permanent notification for Priority mode.

I haven't done it just yet. And I know I'm not the smartest here. But to my knowledge yes you will lose everything. So always good to back up all your files. Thank you for your response. I did actually download the H812 kdz from storagecow however when I put it in the LGUP tool it read as an error in the tot file. Anyone got a KDZ yet? Got a phone that locked on boot a day after the update. Standard fixes didn't work and can't use previous KDZ as it stops at 5% or 6%
Would also like to know if anyone has successfully downgraded from 2AA and if they can provide a KDZ.
Did you use LGUP to get back to 13B from the new 2AA using the 13B KDZ file for Vs986?

I have used the 13B VS986 KDZ file in the past to downgrade to 13B. Is that file not working for people now to downgrade from 2AA back to 13B (aside from the one person in a bootloop).

Excellent. Lifesaver!
Confirmed working. Downgraded from the dreaded 2AA to 13B using LGUP. Before using LGUP though, I placed the new .DLL file in the correct folder as shown here (DLL link available in video description) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4RSEholcuM then followed the instructions here (make sure to follow as step #6 says, and exit out of LGUP then reopen before starting) https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/downgrade-mm-to-ll-lgup-t3322616
upgrade from 29A to 2AA, no much difference that I noticed.
much thanks.I just got a g4 used today and it was upgraded to 2AA but this downgrade saved me

Thanks very much to WAIDroid for the new .dll file. It was hanging up on the downgrade from 2AA, but that fixed it!
Help please unlocking GSM radios on LG G4 with VS9862AA
Hello, a family member received their phone back from LG with a replaced motherboard due to the boot loop issue. We got it back with the VS9862AA software version (Build Number MRA58K).
Can anyone one point me to instructions on what to do to get the GSM radios unlocked so they can use the phone on AT&T or T-Mobile? I remember doing the install to 6.0 Marshmallow maybe a year or more ago when it wasn't available yet officially, and that one had the unlocked bootloader and GSM radios unlocked. So I'm somewhat familiar with the process, I just need to go back and revisit my notes I made about the ordeal.
Has there been any improvements to make this process easier if we just want the GSM radios unlocked? Any help would be very, very appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

I am having this problem now, but youtube says this video is no longer available. What do I need to do with this dll?
Edit: Ok, so I searched my pc for LGUP_8994 and found a dll file of the same name in C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\8994 so I replaced that file with the one found in this thread. Now all is well, and I have successfully downgraded from 2ba!
Can someone give me a link for the dll file for the 2ba update. I tried with the YouTube video but it's no longer available and can't find it anywhere. Please and thank you
Should be towards the end of this thread.

About to buy this phone and am getting mixed answers reading through the threads. Can the latest build (D85130g) be downgraded or will I get an error with the flash tool. Don't want to spend the money and be stuck on stock. I know kingo only works with earlier firmware.
Yes you Can.

You can Downgrade from 30G to 10R, I did it a few times using LGUP without any problem.

Obviously. It's 3 years old. That being said, some of us are broke af and are buying it for the good specs. Despite the age
It still do the job well if hardware not failing. If you root it and put new software on it work as new so its very good.

I actually ended up buying it after confirming it could be downgraded. Ran lineage for a few days but despite being fast, was a little buggy for me. Currently running the stock 30g rom and aside from the crappy battery life, i have no complaints. This phone was definitely advanced for its time and gives new phones a run for their money. This phone is solid. 80$ well spent imo
I've been trying for 2 days to downgrade my G3 D851 and it will not flash using LGup or LG Flash tool 2014. The process starts, but always stops due to error. LGUP always shows Unknown Device [COM41, D85130e]. Have set port to 41 and random. Can anyone offer any solutions? Have tried tot and kdz.

i believe the flash tool I'm using is from this thread(https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667) under "kdz flashing method". Using a stock 30D kdz from one of these threads. I don't set the port to anything. Never fails for me. If it doesn't work I'll zip the exact one i have and upload when i get home. Where is it failing? What percentage?
Thanks. I finally succeeded with LGUP. Turned out when I downloaded and installed LGUP, it came with 8994 dll, and the D851 requires 8974 dll. It still didn't work with KDZ, but I got it to work with TOT. What a PITA!!! I don't envy anyone else trying to root D85130e without advanced knowledge. Thanks for your offer to help. Maybe this will help someone else that is having problems. The LGUP download with the 8974 dll is here. http://oceanhost.eu/545euinlq0hw/LGUP_LG_G3.zip.htm

cool. I haven't tried a tot yet. I heard they quit working after you surpassed a certain update. No problem with KDZs here. Anyway glad to hear it worked out.
