I like the new launcher in Pixel but i dont like that it cant be made transparent instead of the big bar going across the bottom of the screen, is there any way to get rid of this?
Not that I know of...maybe once it is modded by someone.

Agreed I usually use nova but liked it a lot. The swipe up I have been using for a while. But I agree the big bar is awful. You loose the app shortcut long press if you use nova

I have been using Nova for a while now. Their last update included many android 7.0+ features. Look into it.
I have always used nova on phones like samsung and htc but i like the google launcher and want to stick with it, the bar is just to big, i would love to see a mod to see it removed or at leat toned down a lot !

Hi u guys I'm in a big debate on wether which launcher is best and fast. I want your guys opinions.
I'm running my g2 with cyanogens latest nightly build.
First off
Adw: too slow for me
Launcher pro purchased: I had been using launcher pro for a really long time but it takes forever to come up and when u swtich the launcher to landscape mode everything goes bananas.
Go launcher: was using this for about 2 months but I don't like the theme selections.
Adw ex: what imusing right now, pretty fast but also a lil unstable.
What's best for u guys?
Have you tried the stock gingerbread launcher? What it lacks in customisation options it makes up in speed and stabilty.

can't beat adw ex as far as I'm concerned... the new 3d drawer is perfect (literally, I can't tell the difference between it and a vanilla android launcher), theme engine is solid, customization is much more thorough than LP.
I had way more issues with stability on LP than I do with ADW ex... what ultimately made me give up on LP was the 1 minute wait time upon boot (or force close if you're impatient)... that's just plain sloppy.
Agree with both answers. But I think you can see the smoothness of stock over adw ex. At least I can for sure. I wish stock came with three screens and removed those dots at the bottom. Id be in heaven then. Have you tried zeam?

yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if on setups not as stripped as mine, the stock launcher is still much smoother.
I'm only running 1 home screen with the google quick search box and eight app shortcuts. along with no transition animations or other eye candy, it's like butter, especially now that they've fixed the 3d app tray.. used to be a little choppy but now it really is reminiscent of a vanilla GB launcher in terms of smoothness.
I been using LP plus, and say I don't really have issue and it runs great and quick for me not real bloat options,I don't have to take 20 mins to setup the launcher how I like it as adw I don't like the dots, don't like thr trash on toop don't don't like drawer slook
For me launcher pro is definitely the best and runs smooth at all times (except when charging the phone).
Go Launcher Ex is fast, smooth and the most reliable. As far as I'm concerned its the best home launcher right now. I was a long time user of Launcher Pro Plus but the bugs and lack of timely updates really irritated me.
ADW/ex both don't have good enough support for icons other than adw icons and that buff icon set. I'm having the same issue with Launcher pro, although I do like their activity options in the widget menu.
Im using EX but i really want to use another but I can't find any good ones. I liked 91 panda, I don't think it's been updated but I haven't checked either.
launcher pro plus for sure! fast, stable and some nice widgets

How are you able to get one home screen???? Granted I have one screen that has one widget on it, the rest are blank, but there are still 7 total. ....wait...I think you are using adw ex right?

yes, using adw ex. all of the custom launcher apps I've used allow you to choose how many homescreens you have though, shouldn't matter which one you have.

you can use any icons you want as long as they're PNG (same as any other custom launcher).. creating an icon pack that will replace your app tray icons as well is a piece of cake.

Launcher pro for me but with the recent update. The slide out keyboard no longer opens go to landscape mode.
I like launcher pro
or you can use ADW launcher
if you like wp7's launcher, you can use 7 launcher
if you like 3D UI, you can use regina
Hello all,
I am about to get the new moto z play as the seller has not shipped it yet, and in moto z play after coming from htc one m8 with its good sense ui and classic/freestlye layout themes, i will not want to use/keep the stock feel. So I want experts kind help, to tell me some great and importantly lag free launchers/ui paid or free for Moto Z Play ?
Just want to also tell that I will never root it. So no answers on custom roms, etc needed.
Will highly appreciate the answers. It may help many more too!
I love you XDA !!

Some say it is not as good (as it was,) on Marshmallow.
Edit, sadly I just realized wallpapers do not work.
No so, on our phone, albeit has one minor issue not showing all of the bottom row of app drawer icons. So the labels get chopped. For this I have a work around. Folders work, backup and restore and everything else.

Action Launcher 3 Pro is love <3
Stock launcher is actually fairly nice with little to no bloat. That being said I loaded Nova Prime since I had it already and love the tweaks it allows.
I personally use T-UI (called Shell launcher on the Play Store). It is completely different from the stock launcher and is lag free, but unless you like using a linux terminal you will not like it.
Action Launcher 3 Pro, Nova Launcher.
I have paid Nova with a live wallpaper and a white line icon pack to go with my black theme, and even with animations at stock speed and using the transition animations in Nova, it's super smooth.
I've been using Smart Launcher for awhile now.. find it to be really smooth and unbloated

Nova. I believe they have an offer/discount for the premium version on the playstore

Please forgive me for quoting myself.
I do not think most of you realize what a great launcher this is.
Let me count the ways...
Instantly sort apps by date, most used or name
Migrate browser favs which I have saved to many home pages, in various folders, after a FDR or to others phones. This is part of it's backup feature.
It is fast.
You do have to put up with a black only wallpaper and an app drawer that hides some of is bottom row. Which you can work around by touching the icon to see the whole row.
See pics.
Snip rant...
Action Launcher 3 Pro. Without a doubt one of the best launchers I've used and loaded with features. It makes it easy to replicate a Nougat look too.
Commented about lag in another thread on stock rom. Glad I'm not the only one.
If there is any way to make software fast instead of smooth please lmk. Every animation is off and it still chokes on a single factory widget.

Evie Launcher is the best. I think
Evie Launcher is free and adfree.
No lags... light weight with lot of features. better than default Oreo UI
Nova launcher here for the past 5 years fast smooth and very customisable.
I've been using Nova launcher for many years, but I really like the simplicity and speed of the stock launcher of this handset. Is there a way to apply icon themes to it? If not, which custom launcher resembles it the most? I like having google now one swipe to the right away, access to the app drawer with little arrow in the middle/top of home icon row, the small footprint and how responsive and fast it is. Tia!
Action Launcher
Got Action Launcher. So far, I like it a lot :good:
I've been using lightning pro for years. Its pretty complicated on initial setup but once you figure it out it's the most customizable launcher I've used.

Hello all....
I just switched to the Pixel 2 XL from being with Motorola Phones for the last 18 years.
It was a welcomed change but a different experience for sure.
Since getting my Pixel I have made the following changes:
Downloaded:
Nove Launcher Prime - Changing the Home Screen, Dock and Drawer
Pixelation Icon Pack - I just wanted a few more options from stock
Motorola Command Center Weather Widget - Well because I like it
Zooper Widgets - To add the date to my home screen
I really like the Pixel Launcher that came with the phone but the Google Search Bar was driving me crazy so that's what lead me to XDA. Looking for workarounds on moving this bar.
I was also looking at possibly downloading the Android P Beta 3 but was not sure if that would be over my head or not.
So for I am really liking this Phone. Really wanted to wait until the Pixel 3 XL came out but had to make a move so hear I am.
Any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
There is a ton of info on here it just gets crazy trying to jump all over looking for answers.
Thanks for taking a look and have a good day,
Rodney
Welcome to the party. If you are wanting to try Android P, I would start by reading here

Nova launcher will remove the Google search bar it's part of the launcher I use to really like it until Oreo came out then I prefer Google's launcher
This may not be true but I prefer to stay stock in sense of launchers and skins because otherwise I feel it's a little bloaty and feels like the phone slows down a bit more then other apps I own.

Personally I'm waiting for the little Android P quirks to get fixed but before that, I've been a Nova Launcher user for a several years now. Great stock look and feel yet extras that don't make it a bulky launcher.

Have you found a way to add the flashlight to a gesture?
I never set a Nova gesture to do that. I usually just do the flash light with the lockscreen on, swipe down the quick settings, and tap the flashlight.

Welcome to the party! Obviously there are alternate launchers but if you like the functionality of the pixel launcher try 'LawnChair' it's currently in alpha but from what I've heard it's pretty stable.
https://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=lawnchair
XDA is the right place to be if you're looking to customize, There's also 'rootless pixel launcher' if you're looking for similar customization https://www.xda-developers.com/rootless-pixel-launcher-3-4-released-large-tablet-support/

Probably the next million dollar question.
New horizontal app switcher makes me feel I'm using my old S7 edge 'cause its soooo sloooow (and also not always accurate).
It's been found that freezing pixel launcher turns back to vertical app switcher but hey ... I like pixel launcher.
Let's elaborate here on how to achieve this.
Check my solution here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/guide-vertical-app-switcher-pixel-t3830714
Any update on this using Pixel Launcher?
