relock boot loader after rooting?

ok, this is driving me crazy. had every nexus except the 6, got the 5x. unlocked bootloader, ok. flash twrp. cool. install root files, great. set up android pay, denied due to unlocked boot loader. went to lock boot loader... wants to do a factory reset.... ok..... now it just boot loops in twrp formats cache, and phone gives errors about corrupt system, different system, blah blah. so right now im bootloader unlocked, rooted with twrp. how is everyone relocking the boot loader?

You have to be on stock recovery to relock the bootloader. You can hardbrick this phone trying to lock it with TWRP installed. Consider yourself lucky?
Android pay is not working because of root, not the unlocked bootloader. Start reading about systemless root

yes, i flashed the systemless root on my n5x ( i have a regular nexus 5, twrp, bootloader locked, and android pay works with systemless root) so i do now about this recent development. can it be flashed in stock recovery? i just feel like im missing something?

From the [GUIDE] Unlock/Root/Flash for Nexus 5X that you should have read before farting around with the phone:
Important: do not relock your bootloader unless your phone is fully stock. You must flash the factory images first in order to remove root and custom recovery (if you have them), if this precaution isn't taken you may end up with a brick. Please see section 11 of this guide for full instructions on how to return to stock.

Use the guide I linked to to flash the stock images. Then use the guide again to root the phone with systemless root.

thanks for the link, thats one of the first things i read when i started looking but it doesnt really talk about relocking the bootloader unless going stock. im just trying to keep my systemless root and have locked bootloader. sounds like i should try reflashing stock recov after rooting and then try to relock bootloader?

It plainly says:

If you have rooted your phone, you are not fully stock. Therefor do not relock the bootloader.

The 5X is my first Nexus so bare with me. Why would you have TWRP installed with a locked bootloader on the OG Nexus 5? What is the benefit of that?

well there was an app "bootunlocker" which let you unlock it on the fly. also android pay requires a locked bootloader.
so i have locked bootloader, systemless root, and twrp on my OG nexus 5.
just cant seen to relock bootloader and somehow reroot again since NOW nexus 5x required device be WIPED when relocked

Oh, that sounds pretty cool actually.
I don't use Android Pay but I know you do not need a locked bootloader to get it working. Which version of SuperSU did you install? Cuz every time I see a 5X user with working Android Pay, they have systemless root and even a custom rom. I am pretty certain that I read that you just need to delete /SU/xbin_bind to get Android Pay working with systemless root.
Edit: I've seen it mentioned in the SuperSU thread I think, but it is explicitly mentioned in this Nexus 6P Android Pay thread

Yes. This is common knowledge.
Android Pay looks for changes to the system partition only. It doesn't give a rats ass if the kernel, recovery, or boot image are modified, nor does it give a flying **** if the bootloader is unlocked.

No problem. Sorry if I came across a bit hostile. I may have been up too late last night.
Android Pay is also working on some ROMs. Cataclysm for one. PureNexus will be comparable next update too.

If you read the screen properly ull see the instructions on the screen itself do everything the same way you unlock the bootloader just instead of oem bootloader unlock type oem bootloader lock ...but make sure you're on stock rom and recovery

But then My root access will be wiped??
I want root access and dont want than annoying screen

two questions different answer but I would bet if there is a way to remove nag screen a google search would find it. Keep searching threads

there is no reason to re-lock bootloader, its still under warranty through Oneplus even with unlocked bootloader. but if u really want to
1. fastboot flash stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) (make sure u download the file, its somewhere here on the forums
2. reboot and then reboot to fastboot (fastboot oem lock) (i have never re locked a bootloader so i am not sure if it will rewipe ur device again like unlocking it does)
3. boot to OS and get developer options again and uncheck OEM Unlock (do this last)
i would not recommend re locking since it wont void warranty and seemed like a lot people screwed up their devices relocking it, but they also unchecked the oem unlock before flashing stock recovery, also i am not sure if step 2 is needed, i would just make sure u flash stock recovery 1st before doing anything

What happens if i follow same steps with installed FREEDOM OS on my oneplus 3. You said make sure you are in stock OS.

Once i have unlocked the phn my device doesn't get recognised by the pc when i use command" fastboot devices".. Now, i'm unable to flash twrp, plz solve my issue.!!!

What part of be on stock OS is so hard to understand?
If you're not absolutely stock when relocking, you will brick your device.
Then good luck trying to enable OEM Unlocking when not being able to boot.
As someone who messes with their phone, relocking your bootloader is one of the worst possible things you can do.
If not done correctly, it WILL brick your device.
If you want to go back to stock, then surely do, there is absolutely no need to relock your boot loader unless you're selling your device to someone or if you're looking to pass SafetyNet for Android Pay or something.
Also, you cannot have the cake as well as eat it. You need to have an unlocked boot loader for root, exposed, etc. There is no way around this.
Phones previously had to be reverse engineered and exploited to gain root access, now OEMs freely allow unlocking.

I hope you can read this. I'm not a noob and I am looking to relock my bootloader because I am going to sell it. The person wants it fully stock so I need to relock the bootloader in order to regain access to official Ota updates.
I need to be on complete stock (stock recovery and rom) right? Would you please kindly point me to where I need to go to download the stock Rom and recovery. There's some TWRP flashable OTA zips on Oneplus forums that restore stock Rom and recovery but I want to be sure that that is enough and that I don't end up bricking my device for something as stupid as this. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Fash 3.2.4 FW from here.
Follow all instructions from here (except I would suggest sideloading the StockROM before relocking).

I followed the same guide posted on OnePlus Forum to re-lock my bootloader. Just follow them, it works.
Here is that link from OnePlus forum.
1. I restored my stock rom backup from TWRP
2. Flashed Stock recovery
3. fastboot oem lock
4. Sideload stock ROM
Done.
I unlocked because stock ROM I felt was much stabler and hassle free. Have rooted and played with custom ROMs enough in my Nexus 5 days. Just too much stress and can end up with non-working features. Might root again in future if I find something compelling in custom ROM.

If you unlock device, you will still be able to apply OTA. If you rooted by modifying the /system partition, OTA will fail, but if thou rooted using systemless method, you can apply OTA.

Iam on stock OOS 4.0.3 and i was plagued by the same error
--adb sideload the complete rom (with locked bootloader)-- method worked for me.
Previously i had unlocked bootloader and was on freedom OOS 2.3 with TWRP and then i realized that stock updates are better.
So i installed stock recovery and and tried to flash Stock Firmware 4.0.3 through sideload command and it failed.
then i installed TWRP and then installed stock OOS 4.0.3 and it installed fine but with some error.
Then i installed stock recovery
So i rebooted it and after long time it was installed but then i started getting dm_verity error and also i was frustated with unlocked bootloader message.
So i locked my boot loader first from fastboot oem lock and then sideloaded the stock 4.0.3 again and it really worked.
So now i am on stock rom and stock recovery and no more dm_verity error or unlocked bootloader msg to wait for 5 secs...
Now iam really loving my Oneplus 3..

How to unroot, relock and flash stock image...

Looking to for a complete guide to return my Pixel XL to stock. it's unlocked, rooted, with a custom rom. I've seen guides on individual steps, but what would be the proper sequence \ steps to return it to 100% stock?

Guessing your bootloader was unlocked before they patched the exploit. You can go back to 100% stock easily by flashing a factory image but you should NEVER lock your bootloader. If you do you can't ever unlock it again.

Ok with that in mind I'll stay unlocked and rooted and just wait for an oreo custom rom. Thanks

So is your goal to have Oreo now? Just flash it. Remove the -w from the flashall bat file to save data.

Need Help Re-Locking Bootloader

Hi all!
I saw a thread on the guides forum teching how to re-lock the bootloader and go back to stock.
I was able to go back to the stock ROM beautifully, but when i tried to lock the bootloader it simply didn't work. It went through the entire process but when the phone rebooted, the "this device is unlocked and can't be trusted" message still shows.
Anyone knos how to fix this? Thanks!

update to the latest ota february 18 patch then check again it will be locked.

Updated... But it's still unlocked.

That message shows up even if relock the bootloader.
You need to flash a modified logo.bin image to get rid of it.

If you use my guide, you need to be on a custom rom for relocking. Otherwise it wont work , so try installing twrp, and install a custom rom. Than u can relock

SafetyNet FAILED after stock rom and relocked bootloader? (Cant use Google Pay)

I have a LG G4 since almost the release of it. I had it rooted and with an unlocked bootloader since now. I decided to use it as my daily though to pay with it using Google Pay. So I re-flashed the stock v29a zip provided by LG and did the "fastboot oem lock" command. The bootloader locked, the rom is fully stock now without any modification. Why Google pay still says that the phone is altered and after checking Safetynet with an app on play store, fails? Also On Play Store the phone appears Uncertified... What is the problem?

Just an idea, take a look at your build.prop and see if anything looks off. Maybe you need to format some partitions before flashing the stock zip?

Thanks for the reply. I think the zip is flashing all the partitions.I checked for TWRP and did a factory reset after the flash to make sure it's as stock as it can get. Now for the build.prop I also think that it needs root to check and edit it right? If not what sould I look for?

I think that certain partitions need to be formatted you might want to search about that. I think TWRP can access the build.prop but not sure. I suggested checking build.prop because it will show different models, builds and basically would be an easy way to see if you are truly back to stock.

I flashed stock coming from a RR rom with Magisk. Believe me if I had locked bootloader with a rooted rom now I wouldn't have my phone alive

Then You didn´t read Properly.
I didn´t mean Root itself more Remnant parts of Root, that cause ur Saftynet fail.
on Samsung S2 once i thought so too, but banking app said no no no...

a user from this forum said that you need to take the line "ro.build.firgenprint=..." of the any MM/LP build.prop and insert it into the N build.prop (including reboot btw) and try again if google pay works for you...
