Looks like Verizon will start hotlining the Note 7 - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Over on reddit a couple users are stating that Verizon has told its employees they will start hotlining employee lines with the Note 7 on them. At some point in the future they will make an announcement and start hotlining customer's lines.
Hotlining is when they stop data, outgoing texts and outgoing phone calls are sent to Verizon. You can still receive phone calls and texts.

It probably depends on the legality of whether they can remote kill/lock up the phone or not. VZ employees is one thing, customers is another. The IMEI's of N7's may get perma blacklisted/killed eventually though, it is a real possibility. I suppose someone will find a way to hack the IMEI (probably already have) and make the N7 show up as an S7 or something else. But that is going to be a very rare thing to see a hacked IMEI N7 in use I think.

Go ahead. Blacklist it. Better not charge me for the **** either. Then unscrew us for the upgrade, ill turn it in. Til then, they can kiss my ass.

I was told the same thing by a Samsung employee. Samsung was in the process of blacklisting all note 7 phones from carriers.

rofl, ya you wait till you turn my phone off and then try to make me "upgrade" for a phone that is a "downgrade" I will gladly spend 500 dollars(court fees) to ****ing sue your ass. They arent doing ****.

If they start blacklisting, I'll definitely will go with the v20.

This has been termed a voluntary recall thus far. It seems to me that they would need to reclassify it as a mandatory recall with advance notice and additional remedies if they want to start blacklisting it.

Hotlining is not blacklisting. You can still receive phone calls and texts. It is no data, can't send taxes and all outgoing calls are sent to Verizon.

I certainly hope this is not the case. If it is, I'll gladly investigate starting a class action. No one has provided any remedy at this point. The S7E is a step backward and is not available right now. Losing an upgrade is not acceptable. Paying for a new device twice in a year (downgrade plus next upgrade) is not acceptable - though I'll do it as long as it is at upgrade pricing just to get what I want/ need. This entire experience has been horrible on multiple levels.

You guys are super late. They started blacklisting the note 7 last month. Mine was the first ones lol.

Once a device is recalled for full refund that is the remedy. They are under no obligation to provide you a similar phone. Just a refund. They didn't build the note 7 just to screw us all over ya know. I'm pretty sure they would have loved us all to keep them and for them to sell a couple million more units. Sucks for everyone at this point but at least the consumer gets their money back. Samsung is now stuck with inventory they can't sell.

Best Buy Recall Process?

Let me put on record, that my Note 7 has been awesome, not a single problem, unlike other posts I've seen here and around the net, my battery life has been AMAZING! Like 3 1/2 hour convo on the phone last night and only suffered a 10% battery drain amazing, I have yet to see this phone go below 49% after a full days use (work and using it at home to watch videos and surf the net.)
UI has snagged here and there but quickly fixes itself and the battery hasn't even remotely gotten warm during charging (Charge all night at home on Samsung Fast Charger Wireless Stand and the few times I've charge at work for a few minutes, its been on the original non fast Samsung charge disc) and it hasn't gotten even warm with a chunk of Gear VR play (Decided to lay low on the VR play since the recall though lol) so needless to say, I'm loving the Note 7, its sad to see anyone else have a different experience.
With that being said, I don't want to push it, as far as I'm reading it seems there doesn't exactly have to be a warning sign for the battery to just go up in flames, and I guess if I don't have to I'm not gonna chance it happening. And when Samsung said within a week or 2 the replacements would be available I was all about holding on to it in the meantime, but it seems that the replacements aren't gonna be ready in that time frame. And I'd prefer not to burn my house down lol.
So my question is to anyone who had to exchange their Note 7 at Best Buy, I know we have to deal directly with whoever we purchased the Note 7 from and I'm sure I'm not the only one who grabbed mine at Best Buy on launch day.
Did they do an exchange and are they offering a "Loaner" phone?
According to AT&T whom I just spoke with, they stated that Best Buy SHOULD exchange my device and give a Loaner Phone like an S7 Edge or something to use in the meantime, and if they don't then I need to call AT&T on the phone and have the Best Buy employee speak directly to the AT&T rep ... sounds simple right? Well anyone who has ever dealt with BB knows they are usually hard to deal with, and I've read posts stating that some BB stores were pretending like they didn't even have a recall notice and denying the customers Note 7.
So i figured before I waste my time and come within inches of wanting to choke out a blue shirt from pure frustration, I'd see if anyone here has had success in exchanging their Note 7 for a LOANER phone, that when once the new Note 7 batch arrives we can swap back out?

Yeah, I read that prior to posting, But AT&T assured me they will offer me a loaner, but again anyone who's dealt with BB knows that they run rogue and do their own thing, and AT&T has always been disconnected from how BB runs. But I'm in the same boat as far as just keeping it, I love the phone and just want to get a new certified one and move on to enjoying it for what it is, I'd do a loaner and have a new phone to play with if the process was gonna be smooth, but it NEVER is with BB. lol you said it perfect ... "doing battle with them" every time I deal with them i leave the store mentally and physically drained, and yet they keep getting me back in because of the damn pre-order promotions they always have ...

Also as a primer to make sure they are aware that they are still involved in this process and not tell you deal with Samsung. I've been reading all I could about this soap opera and seen someone say that their BB did give them a loaner, again, going against the grain (and no way to confirm internet statements at times).
Our Notes are running fine, last all day long, and have no user installed battery drain or lag.
Keep us (me) posted.... I'll do the same when it comes time.

Agreed, I think a call ahead to BB is the first step. But even that is a 50/50 shot of BS lol.
But yeah, I am the same way, i don't like dealing with the mail if I don't have to. Packages get lost or kicked around or stolen or get held at a FedEx or UPS location over the weekend sometimes. So I just prefer to walk into a store and leave with the product in hand, and BB seems to really be the only place to do that outside dealing with the carrier stores, it just comes at a cost lol. But the same frustrations can be said for reps at the AT&T corporate stores. It's a no-win situation really.
But I've also read mixed reviews on BB about the whole recall process so far, some had no issues, some got no where, so I figured I'd ask for some advice ahead of time. Worst case scenario I'll just keep enjoying my Note 7 until the new stock comes in ... lol which isn't a bad option.
But again thanks for the help man, i appreciate it and I'll def post up how this venture plays out, maybe it'll help someone like me looking for answers.
At Best Buy there no loaner phone. The exchange to Edge or S7 is permanent and the full return might not be available anymore. What they want you to return will vary from store to store.
BestBuy is not giving a temp phone. They are either giving you a full refund, or you move to the S7 or S7 Edge or wait to get a new Note7 when that comes available.
honestly, I wonder if us in the US will wind up getting replacements, because if Samsung isolates the batteries to the Exnyos models, they most certainly wont recall the US market Snapdragon ones.

Right, the problem is, I'm not sure I can get the transaction completely reversed through best buy then walk into an AT&T and have them give me a loaner phone, since I reversed the upgrade at best buy.
Pretty sure you'll be stuck at your temp phone.

I purchased my Note 7 from Best Buy on Aug. 19 via an AT&T Next trade-in of my Note 5. On Sep. 4, I returned the Note 7 to Best Buy under the recall. They coordinated with AT&T and then sent me over to a nearby AT&T store to get my interim phone (S7 Edge). I now have the option of either keeping the S7E or exchanging it for the N7 when the new ones are available.
(As for that choice: the S7E and the N7 are both great, though I like the N7 slightly better. So I'm planning to exchange--unless the N7's sound/vibration-feedback-lag problem still hasn't been fixed by then, in which case I'll keep the S7E instead.)

Best Buy is sending out emails that pretty much state their webpage... just to add to the thread and hope you guys receive too.
They mention "getting registered for a new Note7" so *sigh* i'm going to pay them a visit tomorrow and see if they even know they have this list.
Registered at lunch at my Best Buy in Whitehall PA. They are handling it similar to preorders. Has a registration process etc. You will basically get a preorder email once your registered and then it's first come first serve to those registered as they come in. They stated Staten Island, some NYC and New Jersey Best Buys got their replacement shipments today and that they are assuming we will get ours locally in a day or so.

So, stopped by my local Best Buy and spoke to the mobile manager who stated that all I needed to do was go to that BB Note7 page and enter my email address and that's it. Once they arrive I'll be notified and I can exchange. He said possibly next week but who knows for sure.

I returned my Note 7 to Best Buy, then went to an AT&T store to get an interim S7 Edge. Best Buy was on the phone with AT&T for an hour working out the details. Then it took another hour for the AT&T store manager to call headquarters to work out the remaining details. But it did happen, at least in this instance.
Went to Best Buy and told them I wanted to exchange. Took my order, gave me a pre order reservation form and also received an email confirming the order was placed like any other order. Said new shipments were imminent (I won't hold my breath) gave me back my phone and said to exchange when new phone arrives. We'll see how it goes. They did mention the Sept 30 date but the form doesn't. Believe me, I will request full refund if that date isn't met.
Not sure if this was the correct procedure BB is supposed to follow but as I said as 9/30 approaches I'll just ask for an immediate refund.

Pre-order a replacement? So if I don't swap to a loaner or don't go into a bestbuy I won't get a call for a replacement? I put my email on their website to be notified as few days ago also.

Verizon refused to give loaner phone said to keep using until new ones arrive.

I got a message from Samsung last night to power down my phone immediately and take it to my carrier's store and get a replacement S7 or S7Edge. If I choose to stay with the note they were to provide loaner phones until the new Notes arrive. Verizon told they are doing no such thing and pick another phone or keep using this one until the new ones arrived.

I wonder if Verizon will take responsibility if MY house burns down?

Hey bro, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Sucks that everyone is getting yanked around with nobody from Verizon or Samsung being on the same page. It's irritating and super frustrating to waste your time going down there to be turned down for a loaner when that's what is strongly recommended. I was irritated by the lack of real detail and guidance from the start of all this. I contacted Tami Erwins office, the Executive VP of Verizon Wireless. They still had no real guidance for any of my questions (sad they can't even offer more assistance) but maybe if you have time and want to contact them, maybe they can provide you even more assistance then they did me or at least maybe it will force them to get their asses in gear if more people contact them.

Yup! I got that too, I was contacted within one business day later (2 days ago now) and it was a member of Tami Erwin's team to "handle" my matter for her. Yet....nothing was handled, I wasn't offered any real answers for my 7 or so questions, I just kept being told that they aren't sure when new batch Note7's would be in. I asked questions like would there be a 'line' of sorts to get in for those who wanted a new Note7. I asked if the Note7 would be put on sale to the the public as well as for those who want to exchange or if first they will hold back all new Note7's specifically for the recall and exchange then once we are all taken care of, then put the Note7 on sale to the public. I asked a few more questions and none of them were really answered, it's been frustrating to not get any answers.
I am still on the phone with an agent and she spoke with her supervisor and she is telling me that I can go into the verizon store and exchange the phone for any phone and then when the new Note 7s come in I can do another exchange. She is telling me it won't affect my BOGO rebate..... I don't know if I trust that. I stand to lose $672.
Just got off phone with rep. She said that she noted my account to allow an exchange and then another exchange when new Note 7 comes out. She said I would have to do this at Costco though. She also said this would not affect my rebate. However the guy at Costco said this would kill my rebate. But she noted my account so I hope it sticks, getting on chat support with rebate center now.

Just got off phone with rebate center and he verified (through earlier meeting with his supervisor this morning) that the rebates will still be honored if you use a loaner phone temporarily.
So, off to convince Costco to loan me a phone. Which should I try out?

There is no loaner phone really. Verizon allows you to return your Note, cancels the dev contract if you have one, gets you into a new phone and promises to allow you to go back to the Note when available. With conditions.
You get a $25 store credit for accessories.
You get to trust Verizon for the flip back to Note7.

The Costco Kiosk is an independent company and doesn't follow Verizons policy. I could lose the BOGO if they switch to another phone.. Anyway, Costco had no clue what to do and they are gonna call me tomorrow. I have Verizons ear on twitter right now. DMing them at the moment.
I want Verizon to handle the whole thing and to accelerate my rebate so I don't have to worry about losing it.
If you all think that Samsung's notice is of any value to Verizon you are mistaken.
Samsung's notice states that you can bring your Note7 back to your reseller and get a J SERIES phone to use in the interim until the Note7's are back in store available.
Samsung's notice states you will receive a $25 in store or bill payment credit from your carrier.
Verizon's approach has been you can chose the phone of your liking.
They will deactivate the Note7 device contract and activate the new device contract so if you do not return for exchange it is your keeper. You have 14 days from the date of availability to return for your Note7.
You can use that phone until the Note7 arrive for replacement. It is actually your new phone if you do not return within the specified time.
You will get $25 to use for accessories in store only.
I asked about the BOGO. BOTH phones must be returned presently. What this means to you is based on how far along your ownership of the phones is.

The BOGO deal links the two phones together so yes, it would seem you can, unless you bought them on a 2 year service contract. That contract is separate from the devices, or device contract.
A cancellation fee on the service contract probably would be needed if you signed one. The network is not exploding, just the phones...
I bought the phones specifically because of the Bogo deal so I could use that money to pay off Sprint. Now no one wants to give me a loaner phone or exchange my phone till the Note 7 comes out. And no one if sure if I will still get the BOGO. If I could jump ship right now with no penalty I think I would.

Also, I had to get past the initial sales person and to the manager for a "loaner" to be made available to me. The salesperson claimed I should shut the phone off and activate another phone in the meantime. I claimed I had a Chat message with Verizon Online that offered a "loaner" and I had no other phone to use as I traded in my old one. Only then was the "loaner" made available to me.
And only at the very end of the process was the $25 store credit made available to me after I asked. The salesperson needed to confer with the manager on this as well.
So a note of caution to you all. Get to the manager and get assurances because some of the sales staff are way in the dark.... So far in the dark that my "salesperson" didn't even know the Note7 had an Edged screen.....LOL

Not sure how my last post quoted you but anyways...
It s best to wait for the Note7 to be available so there is a clear path to another Note7. You will have legal standing to fight them if they refuse the BOGO to you. Small claims court is free to you and you would certainly win.
See, you did not purchase a Device ID, you purchased a defective device so it will not matter if the Device ID is the same as long as you go with another Note7 replacement. This is pretty simple stuff really. I would not worry except while charging in the meantime of course.
Wow! I just called Verizon about my Note 7 that I purchased on line through my business account, and they really offered no loaner. They said that I was free to activate one of my older phones that I previously had on the line. When I said that was not possible, I was told that if I noticed no overheating on my Note 7, I could keep using it and just call them back if I ever did notice any overheating, and they would then let me swap it for another Galaxy phone. I am very surprised that they are not being more proactive on this.
I sat on hold for 35 minutes last night before I gave up and again 15 minutes just now. I can't even get a live person on their website chat, only the automated BS.

if you turn down the recall you are likely to have to take full liability, also they will be unable to repair or replace the phone as it has been discontinued meaning they likely can't even give support should the device breakdown.
I spoke with a Verizon rep yesterday asking this exact same question, and they told me that I would be covered indefinitely. They also let me know that if that changes, there will be a notification urging remaining users to turn their phones in before they lose the opportunity.
I encourage you to speak with a rep and see if they say the same, but that's the answer I got.

I spoke with a Verizon rep yesterday asking this exact same question, and they told me that I would be covered indefinitely. They also let me know that if that changes, there will be a notification urging remaining users to turn their phones in before they lose the opportunity.
I encourage you to speak with a rep and see if they say the same, but that's the answer I got.

I called up Verizon today and the nice lady I spoke with told me the same thing. She said that currently, there is no deadline set for the recall. I told her my plan was to hold onto it until ~Feb-March when the S8s are announced, then use my upgrade for that, and she said cool, I can upgrade my phone then. Also said that if my phone blows up in 2 months or whatever, I can still turn it in to get a S7 or S7e or whatever.
She didn't mention anything about a deadline, or if that changes I'll be notified, but I assume we will. But I'm trying to get this in writing, maybe from a live chat assistant?
There's an official CPSC recall now. You will have no legal recourse.
The CPSC doesn't set laws, and the recall as far as the U.S. is concerned is still voluntary per Samsung's statements. As stated by the CPSC itself on the Note 7 recall information page:

they always put voluntary as they can't force people to return something, but it gives the firm legal protection when a device explodes down the road and the owner tries to sue the firm, as the firm can just turn around and say "well we did tell you to return the device"
a mandatory recall is a near impossibility without getting courts and all sorts in place to actually forcibly take the device from those who want to keep it.

That's what I did twice with AT&T yesterday. In between those chats I called the corporate store where I purchased our two devices and they had told me I had a month. The second chat they said that wasn't true and I could wait for the S8, BUT they said Samsung could stop taking them back at any time, but as of right now they aren't giving a date. So, I figure they will very soon set a deadline. They will make more money if people switch to the outgoing S7 line rather than waiting for the S8. It's a dirty trick but I fully expect it to happen. That said, I am waiting until the LG V20 is in the store so I can make up my mind if I want that or an S7. The S7 edge is almost the same phone as the Note 7. Just lacking a little screen size, Iris thing, and a little smaller internal storage. I was kinda of on the fence because I want the USB C in my new phone, but I haven't used the cable since getting the wireless charger anyway. The V 20 looks promising, except it's not waterproof and doesn't have that nifty Samsung Pay that I've grown to love. I am sad about this whole thing, though.

I ended up returning mine and I went with the Moto z force. I love it so far!! Less software features but it is super smooth, good battery life, and the finger print scanner is unreal haha very accurate. So far I am happy that this happened so I could try a new phone for once. I have used the note line since the note 2.

i have two note 7 one of the first ...... and the other of the second recall....
call yesterday to samsung ... and i explain my situation and the rep says there is no deadline available ... cause they still searching the issue.... so i decide to exchange the first note and keep the second recall note 7 ... until samsung made an statement .......
Think about it. They recall the product. Why would they honor the waranty? They won't. There will also be no spare parts.

Depends on your carrier, and generally they haven't said yet. Figure to have 30 days from whenever your carrier announces a date. You'll probably still be able to return later, but lose out on any incentives.

There is NONE... it is a recall they have to take it in no matter what.. this is the big reason why i think verizon is wrong for turning people away from returning in store.. not only do they have physical evidence of trying to return the device they also get the getting denied by returning on file... so either way verizon loses
Think about it from Samsung's point of view - they want to have them all back so that there's zero chance of them failing and bringing them MORE bad publicity. They will accept a Note 7 back 3 years from now.
But I'm sure they will announce a date after which you would only get your money back, and eventually maybe not all of your money (after all, in two years, your phone is no longer worth it's original selling price, so why would they give you that much for it?). But who knows, I'd just keep my eyes open for an announcement about it. I'm sure it will be carried on every news service in the world, considering how big of a deal they've made this into.
What about folks that took advantage of contract renewal upgrades? That's what I'm afraid of losing , don't wanna be stuck with a phone that will never get updated or and only get a refund on the $350 i paid . Ideally I would like to wait for the s8

If you have the international Singapore version: SM-N9300FD You have from Oct. 13 to Nov. 6 to get an exchange or full refund.
In the US They have no deadline since the Government has not made a full investigation on the source of fires and has not issued a recall yet.

At some point Verizon will likely set a time limit I bet. So far I have not seen one on VZ and am mulling my options on what phone to get (if any, might go back to my Note 4) to replace it. Right now the leader is the S7 edge - by far the closest to a Note 7 we can get. Still not as nice a phone though.
I wonder how long providers are going to let people use the Note 7, those that still do are pretty much using a free phone as they can still get a refund when they return it, I'm sure the providers don't really like that idea.

You're aware that Samsung is the one who provides the warranty, not the government, yes? I don't doubt the laws surrounding warranty are as you say in Mexico, but if Samsung has a year long warranty, their warranty says that they either replace, repair, or refund, the device. Since there's no equivalent, and since it can't be repaired (line is cancelled), I can't see how they could wiggle out of refunding, even in the "pseudoMegaCountry"'s.
I think I'd prefer to take my chances with less stringent laws supporting warranty though, if I get to be in a country that isn't as kidnappy

Here in the UK, the law is very clear however. The Consumer Rights Act (2015) states that all products should meet these standards:
Satisfactory quality: Goods shouldn't be faulty or damaged when you receive them.
Fit for purpose: The goods should be fit for the purpose they are supplied for
As described: The goods supplied must match any description given to you
It is impossible to imagine how anyone could successfully argue in court that the Note 7 passes the tests above. In fact it fails ALL of them!
But how long do you have to return it?
These obligations (which are on the *seller*, which may or may not be Samsung, btw) last for 6 years. However, for the first 6 months, any fault is deemed to have been present upon delivery and it is up to the seller to *prove* that it was not. Not up to you to prove that it was.
So it's probably easier if you return it before end of March 2017, but any time after that, you are still OK but might face a bit more hassle.

Even after that first 6 months, if the phone has been subject to a recall (a worldwide one no less!), I can't imagine Samsung would bother trying to argue it. It would just make them look like idiots (more than they already do), they'd have zero chance of winning their argument, and they would likely be liable for any legal fees involved in proving that the faults caused the phone to not meet the legal requirement of the Consumer Rights Act. I know in Canada that would be a likely outcome, anyways.

Agreed. It would be a slam dunk in the UK as well.
The only complication is that unlike buying (say) a washing machine, you have the telco's contract to consider as well as the retail purchase. Since the telco subsidises the phone purchase, it gets a bit messy.
I've given up mine is arranged to go back next week.
In the US the recall will not end. Samsung will remain liable to accept the phone return for full refund. So, I guess, the deadline would be upon ignition for those like me that choose to keep it.
The only question remaining is the cost of return. Right now it is free to return.

I haven't gotten that text either.
This is from Samsung. To further increase participation, a software update will be released starting on December 19th that will prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices.

Verizon has said they will not IMEI block or push any updates that completely brick the phone. At least until after the holidays - then all bets are off. An IMEI blacklist will be the end, unless there is a way to change the IMEI to say an older phone like a Note 4 or something that a person already owns. I don't know if that is even possible though. Probably not legal I suppose.

I have scoured the online news and Verizon's website for any indication that they were enacting a 5 day return policy, and I have found nothing.
This text sounds a bit harsh and everything I've read said that refunds will be honored regardless of when the device is returned.
Can you please post a screenshot of the text?

I even called verizon to confirm and they told me yes and that samsung is planning a update to completely kill the note 7 within the next week or so

Well, the Samsung update and the Verizon refund are two completely separate issues.
I'm just talking about the refund for now.
It seems like you upgraded to a new Verizon phone and haven't returned your Note 7 yet.
The only reason Verizon would send the "recovery box" mentioned in the text is if you used your new upgrade.

I did not upgrade my phone and purchased the Note 7 new under the monthly payment plan at Best Buy. I received a recovery box without requesting one and the text warning me that I would be charged full price if I did not return my Note 7. I still have not at this point returned the phone due to time constraints. I was told by Best Buy to return it to them. Not sure who I should even send the phone back to at this point.

OK, so this makes it seem like Verizon is collecting all phones that weren't bought directly through them but were still sold by them...
Anyway, since you were under Verizon's monthly payment plan, and they have already issued a refund for that plan, you should DEFINITELY return it to Verizon via the recovery box.
That way you are cutting out the middle man (Best Buy).
If you return it to Best Buy, you run the risk of Best Buy not returning it to Verizon, Verizon claiming you never returned the device, then being charged full price.
I guess it's a good thing I keep a spare phone in my glove box. We will see what happens on the 19th.

I just got a fireproof box and letter by mail from Verizon saying to return by Note 7 in 5 days or I would be charged full price. It's official, Verizon is killing the phone for good.
I never upgraded, I never contacted Verizon for a fireproof box.
I just disabled OTAs and went on with my life.
Trust me, everyone is getting a fireproof box soon. Just wait a week.
Going back to my cracked S4 for now. Gonna wait it out until the S8.

Recalls are all voluntary by the customer. The CPSC can demand a recall but cannot demand all items be returned. They can attempt to force compliance by blocking IMEI and pushing the updates (blocked on mine) to limit their liability which is why Samsung is going after these but that's it. Now if someone has found something different in recall history or law point it out but the reason for the recall is to reimburse the customer for a "faulty" product and remove them from consumption/use as much as possible. No provision in recall law to force return of product.

No. Verizon already refunded all of our payments for the Note 7. This makes all of our Note 7's effectively their property.
If we want to keep our Note 7's, and make it our property again, we may do so... But the refund will be taken away.
For example, why would Verizon refund a Note 7 that was lost? They won't, and will charge that person the full price of the phone.
Verizon didn't have to refund all of our Note 7's upfront. None of the other carriers did. But, since they did, they have the right to recharge us if they don't get the phones back.
You may have "searched and searched" but we are in a very unique situation with our phone manufacturer and our carrier. I highly doubt that any carrier has ever before fully refunded a recalled phone upfront. The carriers are not required to do that, and Verizon was being nice by doing so.
