So i've got a bit of an issue with my z5p. It seems to be half soft-bricked? So i can get it on but if i restart it, it will bootloop for hours, sometimes days until it comes back on.
I started this by trying to flash a rom for permanent 4k to it however from there i ended up flashing any boot.img and recovery.img i could in an attempt to get it back on.
Xperia's repair companion no longer can get the phone info however "Emma", sony's flash tool, does work which was the last step i did to get it to turn on.
I can only find modified kernals and roms, is there any way to totally restore this now?
Does the rom from flashtool's xperifirm include a boot.img and a recovery.img? shouldnt that be totally stock?
Anyone have any ideas on this issue or can point me to a thread i may have missed?
Regards

Hey guys
After having a look at some custom roms for my Xperia Play R800i, I decided to try and install Cyanogenmod 9.0. After a long and stressful ordeal, I managed to root the device, install Clockworkmod Recovery, and flash the rom. I wasn't happy with this rom, so I flashed ICX. After being dissatisfied with this also, I decided to return to the stock rom, using Flashtool and Xperia_Play_Release_Generic_UK.ftf. When I went to update to Android 2.3.4 using the Sony Ericsson PC Companion software, it said that the phone contained modified software which could not be updated. Thinking this was an error, I re-flashed the ftf file, then tried to download the update through the Software Update option in the About Phone settings menu. The update seemed to be going fine, but soon after it began, the phone simply switched off. Now, when I press the power button, the phone vibrates, but does nothing else. It doesn't even get past the black screen. I viewed some similar problems on the Sony Ericsson support site, and they all advised use of the Update Service program. Once again, I was told that my phone contained modified software and therefor couldn't be updated. I also tried to flash the ftf again, but my phone is still as unresponsive as ever.
I imagine that the problem is to do with the software that is currently installed on the phone, and that it needs to be removed/replaced for me to switch it on. However, I can't know for sure because I can't switch it on.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm desperate to get my phone working again. Any and all suggestions would be useful. Thank you in advance
Ya... not supposed to FOTA on unlocked bootloader, it bricks you. As you've seen SEUS doesn't like locked bootloaders so the only way to use it again is to relock the bootloader. Unfortunately in order to do this you need to flash the relocker, which is a .ftf, which you can't do because your phone isn't recognized by flashtool. I dunno, you don't have a lot of options here, but lets lay them out:
1. Get into flash mode and recover via either a .ftf or use it to relock your bootloader so you can use SEUS
2. Get into fastboot and boot or flash a kernel or recovery. You could try flashing a CM7 kernel and installing its .zip
3. If nothing else works your only other option is to turn here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322827
This is what happens when you use official Sony update service with an unlocked bootloader.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Sorry to be a pain, but do you have a link to the specific .ftf I need to relock the bootloader?
Actually, ignore my last post. I Googled it and found the file quite easily. I flashed it with Flashtool and everything is working perfectly. Thank you so much for your help BuckM. You saved my phone
Here you go. I wouldn't bother relocking though. Just flash the ftf file that you want.
You will find them here.
Beaten too it by OP
d31b0ys right, you don't really NEED to relock your bootloader, its just an option to get SEUS working again. That being said keep in mind you can reunlock your bootloader again at any time using the same unlock code as before, just try to be a little more careful
did you try to pull out the battery then put it back, then hold the search buttion (wile the phone is still off) then put in the usb cable? if done correct your power buttion will turn blue. then download a stock .tft for your phone and flash with flashtool. this unbricked my phone
Hi, I'm new to kernels but I just have one question before I think about going ahead with flashing one. I want to flash the Doomlord kernel on my Xperia Play R800i but I want to know if after I've flashed it I can go back to the original stock kernel if I want to and how I can do this? Can anyone shed some light into this? - Thanks
Yes, you can

Hey mate, if you are a beginner in flashing kernals be sure you have Flashtool installe dand ready to go. The classic way is to download the fastboot files and flash kernals through CMD which may be a bit difficult as you have to learn the codes and shiz. but to make your life easier install this little handy tool called flashtool.
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
1) I know download speed may be dodgy but trust me, easiest tool to use! After installing head over to its directory files and inside the "drivers" folder Run the application "Flashtool-drivers.exe" and go on and install everything. (can take a long time). Then after run the program without your phone hooked up with USB debugging on click on the flash icon (the first option from left) chose fastboot mode. Click on Reboot into fastboot mode via ADB. Then press "Select Kernal to Flash" and chose the desired kernal you have downloaded and after a couple of seconds you are good to go. An alternative way is to switch off the phone, hold the search button and plug in the usb into the phone. If you have done this correctly the LED should turn blue on the phone.
2) If you didn't like what you have now with your phone, you can set everything back to the way it was before as if you have never touched the phone. kernal would go back to defult as well. It's a very simple process and can be done through "Flashtool" (Notice: you will lose everything however, not personal files like photos though if you chose to flash the whole FTF along with system files). Simply make sure the phone is switched off and set it into flash mode by holding down the "back" button and inserting the USB into the phone. The LED should turn green now. Again click on the flash icon in flashtool but this time select "flashmode".
Here you will be flashing a stock ftf file to put everything back to the way it was. Bootloader must be unlocked however. You can chose to only reflash the Kernal only or Kernal and everything else like the ROM and Baseband.
You can download the tft file here: https://rapidshare.com/files/698194045/R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62__1253-4437_.ftf
This is stock firmware baseband 64. Put the file into the folder named "firmwares" in the directory of flashtool program. Then carry on from my instructions and after selecting the "flashmode" you will be faced by a window showing the ftf file you are about to flash. On the right side you will see options and by leaving the "exclude kernal" option UNTICKED and all other options TICKED, you can have your Kernal set back to default. But you can do your own combination depending on what you'd like. Then press ok and the process will begin, I don't know how long it will take as I have never reverted back to ONLY the default kernal. I usually just flash the whole FTF file leaving all options unticked but the "Wipe use data" and "Wipe cache". If at this stage you didn't do the process of putting the phone into flash mode as I instructed earlier it's fine. A window would open showing you animated instructions on how to to do it now. then it should automatically carry on with the process.

Wow, thanks for the really detailed explanation! I've used flashtool but have never flashed a kernel before. Your instructions are really detailed and helpful, thanks. So to my understanding I can get my bootloader unlocked, flash a kernel, mess around, then just flash the stock .ftf and everything including the kernel would be back as if I'd never touched the phone and had just purchased it new? - Thanks

Yes that is correct! Everything will be changed back to the way it used to be, including Kernal, System files and so on. Although you can now even relock the bootloader using tools provided by blagus, the drm keys are not retrievable, just saying incase you care but those are complex stuff that doesn’t apply to you as it makes no difference to system performance. I don't even know why some people may want to be able to retrieve it. My phone's touch screen stopped working a few months ago and I simply flashed that tft and relocked the bootloader and seemed like my warranty was intact evidently, hence they fixed my phone
From my understanding you still haven't unlocked the bootloader. Although for me seemed difficult at first, I followed these instructions linked on this web link below and in no time you will be flashing kernals and Roms.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play:_Full_Update_Guide
Only follow the guide to the point you have unlocked the bootloader. It continues showing you how to flash CM7 which is kinda outdated now. lol

Oh right thanks for the instructions, greatly appreciated
So I tried rooting my phone. I downloaded the 108 kernel and 157. I turned off my phone and flashed 108. It worked, from the log on flashtool except I lost my display. The buttons still work, I can hear my messages and everything else. It just seems like the display is gone, just a black, blank screen.
I tried flashing to 157 again but didn't work. I thought maybe I don't have the right kernel, so I downloaded a new one, except now I can't flash because my debugging turned off, and I can't turn it back on because i can't see anything. Is there a way to fix this?
Thank you
You dont need debuging to flash via flashtool. I know there is a sign with info that is needed but I always flash via flashtool roms and stock kernels and always I have debuging off in developer options. Try to flash whole rom without wipe data
Are you sure you flashed the right kernel to the phone, I followed this and did the fault to click on the link on that post to the guide before I downloaded the kernels. The guide is written for Z1 and the kernels there are for Z1, I did that and got the same as you, (probably) working phone without screen. You have to download the right kernels before you go to the guide. The kernels for Z1 compact shall begin with D550X........ , if you flashed the C690X..... kernel (as I first did) it's the wrong one. I manage to repair my fault by flashing the right kernel to the phone and YES............ the screen was back
I've tried to upgrade my M5 E5653, but failed. The device can only be accessed in fastboot mode. I've tried many option, but didn't succeed. I think I messed up the boot image, because I flashed it TWRP recovery instead CWM as proposed in one howto. I got the link to the stock images availabe here, but flashing didn't change anything. I've tried boot_m5_ss_30.2.A.1.21_stock. Following these threads flashing didn' result in the required files, needed for flashing.

I've downloaded E5653_Customized AU_1297-5795_30.2.A.1.21_R4B but cannot create the necessary .ftf file. For some unknown reason it doesn't work. I've tried the manual and the automated procedure.
Then I tried the repair option provided by SONY Xperia Companion, but in the repair mode the device doesn't gets recognized. It seems to be only in fastboot mode.
I've spend now more than 12 hours trying to get a step forward, but I'm stuck :crying:
May someone please advise what might be a reasonable next step.
Thx in advance

After nearly 3 days of trial and error, I've manage to restore my device.

Hi doubleugk, i have got the same E5653 and planning to flash MM, could you please tell me how did you manage to restore your device, did you follow steps on androidinfotech or xperiablog?
Hey all,
Haven't touched this phone in years, but was inspired to pick it up again yesterday. I can't for the life of me remember all the crap I did to it back in the day, but there was some "minimal" thing installed to it that made it play PS games better or something, and there was some LuPuS wolf thingy that came up when it booted.
Half the stuff I tried to do within the phone was crashing, so in my infinite wisdom I decided, "Hey! Why not just flash back to stock firmware!?"
And so the genius that I am, attempted to do just that.
So I found Flashtool and a nice stock rom and pretty much it did something, but then eventually fails every time as "Failed to verify sin header" and aborts the flash.
Now the phone is stuck in a loop, either the Sony Ericsson logo comes up, then a exclamation point in a triangle, or it goes into Flash mode.
I've tried several different stock roms:
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Enhanced
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62
And I've tried several versions of Flashtool:
flashtool_0.9.24.4
flashtool-0.6.8.0-windows
flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows
But no combination of any of those gets me past the error during flash.
I also tried the Xperia Companion, but it only complains my phone is locked and won't let me do anything. Of course it's not locked, and I can't even unlock it because it doesn't boot into anything.
I also tried the SEUS but it crashes upon launch (Windows 10).
Anything else I can do? Or is this phone toast?
Thank you in advance!
EDIT:
Alright, time for some extra silliness... and maybe I just don't understand what I'm reading here. So the sticker on the phone under the battery reports R800x, indicating the Verizon version.
The old Flashtool actually let me flash a stock Verizon ftf on there, but then it returns to the looping between Sony Ericsson/Exclamation point and Flash mode.
I ran the 9.24.4 version of Flashtool and attempted the same Verizon stock ftf. And here's what it said....
Current device : R800i
Also, the newer versions of Flashtool report this:
Bootloader status : UNROOTABLE
But the older copy of Flashtool reports I'm rooted.
I did try to get SUS working on another PC, but has same issues, seems to crash/die reaching out to a server that no longer exists.
EDIT 2:
Woohoo! Fixed! Continued to research all the info out there, and seems I just had to relock bootloader.
