No rpmb bootloader locked - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, in our Italian n5x community some of us are getting troubles from lg assistance... bootloaders are locked and it seems it's not allowed to unlock it anymore, wich obviously means people is not allowed anymore to unlock, root and so on...
Why is that possible? Is there any way to bypass this kind of "security lock" ?

Try flashing the H791 TOT file someone here created:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/req-help-to-unbrick-t3251740
It has the RPM partitions specified in the GPT partition table but it doesn't have any contents flashed onto it. Hopefully that would be enough.

Did this help anything? I am having the same problems here ...

Hey, got the same problem here. Posted about this even before I saw this post; gonna try this and inform you about it as I get home.

Alright, tried to flash the .tot file but I sadly got nothing. Worse, I got a hardbrick apparently: my N5x stays still on the Google screen, and "No RPMB" is still there.
However, flashing an ota makes my device work again, but still "No RPMB". And obviously, it doesn't let me unlock bootloader for a longer time than a reboot.

Well that's sad to read. Thx for trying anyway. Seems like a(nother) rma is the only solution then? ...

Afraid so. Just sent my N5x to LG Remember to specify that rpmb is causing problems. At least, that's what I did, hopefully it will get the work done. Let's see in 20ish days...

Nothing fixed that rpmb status....shame on lg

1. What is rpmb?
2. EU law says unlocking the bootloader, rooting an/or flashing custom software is no reason to waver warranty by the manufacturer unless he can prove that that was the cause of the defect.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998801

Just received my Nexus 5X back from LG UK following an RMA (bootloop issue, motherboard replaced). I now have the "NO RPMB" issue too.
Just spoke to LG who were less than useless, stating that I'm "not allowed" to unlock as it would void the warranty... waiting for a call back from someone technical!
So frustrating...

Somebody with the same issue posted how he got root despite having his bootloader locked:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68836703&postcount=7
So maybe at least we can get our root back!

Hi.
Im also having trouble with "no rpmb" after return from RMA (new mainboard).
Is there any possibility to make my Nexus great again?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, the only way I got this resolved was by escalating a complaint with LG and getting the device replaced by them.

Ok , thanks.
In my country we are supposed to get it fixed at the local dealer , not by LG.
Had a hard time getting the mainboard changed the first time, as they claimed the reboot issue was software related and not under any kind of warranty.
Do you know why they do this? Are my phone broken in any way or is this only a problem regarding unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks
KnieveI

Hey there! I found a solution to get root access, here's my post on Reddit about it:

Hope this helps!

You've asked specifically for a device with RPMB ?
Is there any chance to get one with RPMB by saying DRM-content like Netflix are not playable on the phone ? I've seen on Reddit* some people have their phone replaced for this issue, but got a phone with bad battery.

Need help with bypassing bootloader unlock (EE) UK

Gone through the LG dev site, put in IMEI and Device ID, message pops up saying
the page at developer.lge.com says:
Unfortunately, your device (EE,UK) does not support unlocking the bootloader.
Is there a way around this, I would like to root my phone...and this whole "hold" over my android device isn't good at all.
EDIT, Sorry, i've got the LG G4 which is the phone in question, not the LG G3 as stated in my Sig.

Sorry you can't unlock. Check the root thread for that.

Surely you'd be able to root using the method in the root thread? I'd hope so as I'm getting this phone on EE in a couple of weeks and was hoping it would be possible

Should be able to root using the method in the root thread with no issues.
As far as getting a G4 on EE, go via CarphoneWarehouse as you get a Euro unlocked device and not an EE branded device.

Dam that's a *****. I'm wondering if you could flash the KDZ of the EURO unlocked device and convert it from an EE device to an unlocked one. I know this used to be possible with Samsung device, this is my first LG (apart from a Nexus) so not fully up to speed on these things yet. May be worth investigating though.

Ok found that,
right.... How on earth can I tell what version mine is?
does this low level root actually bypass the "not being able to unlock bootloader" ??
Sorry for all the questions, I have read up...just a bit cautious this time around.... never had this much trouble with rooting a device before.

Yes it doesn't require the Bootloader being unlocked, tbh most questions you have will be answered in that forum, read through the first two posts. All images are there and how to find the right ones.

If your worried about not picking the right version, then I would avoid proceeding with that method. As if it isn't one of the version in the OP, you need to change the commands too. Post a screenshot of your Software Info screen and I'll point you in the right direction.
But you need to read through both those posts before proceeding to understand what your doing.

As far as I can tell, you only have a carrier specific version of software and no actual hardware differences from H815 itself, which makes sense EE just using their own software (like the twats they are). This being the case you should be able to proceed with flashing the H815-10c image and gain root, this may also mean you can unlock the bootloader.
If the worst happens and you can't boot, you can just use a kdz image to revert to stock following the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848
You can gain a stock KDZ with this url, replace 'YOURIMEIHERE' with your imei number:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=YOURIMEIHERE

Recover on from bootloop on H815 EU

Hi guys,
Yesterday I got sweaty hand palms.
My EU 815 G4 is unlocked, the official way, and I had rooted it.
Then I tried to install xposed from twrp and I did something wrong, and ended up in bootloop...
I have just updated to v20b before, and forgot to connect the phone to the PC, and allow the PC debug access before installing xposed, so i could see the phone in ADB mode, but couldn't access it.
Of course I hadn't made a backup before this - I like to cry
Just as a desperate try, when everything else had failed, i thought about using the new tool provided by shakeyabooti LG UP to flash the factory KDZ all over
I put the phone in SW. update mode by:
1. Turning off the phone
2. connecting USB cable to the PC
3. Press and hold vol. up while connecting the USB cable to the phone
Then i downloaded the v20b KDZ file, provided by Autoprime (since this was what i where allready running)
Opened LG UP, loaded the H81520B_00.kdz, marked REFURBISH
Lastly i pressed "Start" and waited for about 15-20 minutes and "TADAAAA"
The phone where up and running again... only things lost where root and TWRP
- Sharing since I'm properly not the only one ending up in this kind of mess
Just tried it no luck :/
So just to confirm...unlocking bootloader official way does void warranty and we can not send it in for repairs?

Indeed. Maybe you'll find a cool employee at your vendor who will still do it, but your warranty is definately void and they don't need to do anything. Depends on how acommodating the employee is. If you're stuck in a bootloop @rakinisbat just follow the steps in this thread.
And please keep in mind that there's a way to get out of bootloops 99% of the time (in fact 100% if it's a software related problem), you just have to do a good search on xda. Furthermore there's an uninstaller app for xposed in the official rovo89 thread, which you can flash via recovery and it which undos the xposed installation and your phone will boot fine (if you can access TWRP - just flash it). If you have further questions you can PM me, always happy to help

Thanks Mate, I guess ill have to try my luck with LG,
I have that batch of H815 with the faulty motherboard, unfortunately I'm in that 1% *Sigh* :crying:
Tried literally everything i could with the software, pretty much confirmed it is the motherboard.
It looks like the KDZ is flashing properly, as LGUP shows whichever kdz i put on, but the actual hardware is not capable of booting into the OS.

Nope, my bootloader is unlocked, im a flash-a-holic, longest i have lasted without rooting or unlocking a bootloader is about 2 weeks. I would have never imagined such a massive hardware issue with a flagship phone. I'll probably get a nexus 6P atleast it has better support than a LG. I'm in Australia, I imported this phone when it was released, so i have to send this phone overseas if i want it repaired, which they will most likely deny.
Sooooo over LG now! There are like hundreds if not thousands that are effected they are not even acknowledging it or providing a viable solution.

nope. That warning will appear on devices with an unlocked bootloader. The only way around it is to re-lock the bootloader or cover it up with a bootloader skin like the material design one available on this site

Ah. Sorry, I misunderstood the error you were getting. I believe that second one is due to a mismatch between the particular rom you are running and the vendor version. If you flashed back to stock using the latest stock images, I'm not sure why you are getting it as the vendor version should match (unless something else went wrong during the flash).

Device State - locked

I know there are other threads regarding this but those included someone having TWRP already flashed and in this case I do not.
I sadly took a chance and bought a Nexus 5X off someone on Kijiji and it looks like I got got scammed.
I've own other Nexus phones in the past but was unaware of the OEM Lock on the latest devices and it is in a locked state and I do not know the google account to unlock it (as it wasn't my phone prior to this)
None of the fastboot/adb commands work as it is locked.
I just wanted to know if there was any other way I could fix this or if I have brick on my hands here. Any assistance would be amazing as this would mean I just blew my money away.

So you purchased a 5X that wasn't factory reset? Have you tried asking the previous owner for assistance? They might be able to remotely wipe the phone using Android Device Manager.

Sadly you may be right, but like any good thief he seems to be unreachable, so I unfortunately can't get the money back. I have checked the IMEI and it is clean so i should be able to activate it.
I just need a way to bypass the FRP (Factory Reset Protection). I've seen posts on this on XDA but they are for patches up to the March 1st Patch. I build I have is the March Patch and I can't seem to find any workarounds for this patch level.
In the event that someone has found a way please let me know as it would save me a lot of grief.
Thank you for your responses.

I don't know if will help, but the N preview may not include or may reset FRP. Usually OTAs only include the changed files but since the N preview was bricking locked phones, Google released full OTAs that contained everything. You could try flashing it with ADB while in the stock recovery.

I was thinking the same thing but I don't want to make the situation worse than it already is. I have seen vids from RootJunky showing that the N preview is bypassable and it can be done with a reset.
Will the OTA wipe all the data on the device?
Just to be clear are these the OTA's you are referring too? http://developer.android.com/preview/download-ota.html
Thank you for your advice.

Looks like it is still a no go. The FRP seems to still be in place and the reset idea didn't work.
I may need to see if i can get this phone completely blanked.

Bummer. I was going to suggest THIS. But there isnt a 16 TOT file.
So you were able to successfully flash N from the stock recovery? And you simply couldnt get past the login screen? FRP is a *****. I had no idea what it was when I sold my Moto X Pure Edition last year. I ended up giving the guy I sold it to my password so he could unlock it. That was after about a day of searching for a workaround. Then my sis bought a G4 and when it arrived it was locked with FRP. We ended up finding a tool to wipe it out. Such a pain. Lol. Good luck finding a solution. Let us know if you get it working some other way.

I unfortunately don't have a sim to test with. The one in my current is a micro not a nano. I am going to contact a repair store tomorrow to see if they can assist and I will try it out.
Sorry yes I did exactly as he suggested and it didn't work.
It gives me the option during setup to setup like it was a new phone but then as soon as I connect to my WiFi it performs a check and states the same reset message.
Which is why I might be thinking that it is the 72 hour lock on and maybe it will go away once it is complete.

I would try it again. If you factory reset from within android, it should disable FRP, including the need to wait 72 hrs.
I wouldn't bother with the repair shop. The latest and greatest info is going to be on the internet and probably from rootjunky.

I tried several times with no luck.
It just seems like once it phones home to Google it blocks me.
I'm going to try to contact rootjunky directly

Bummer. Im out of ideas.
What message do you exactly get when trying to execute something via fastboot?

Nexus 5x stuck at google screen [Potentially Hard-bricked]

*** The issue is resolved!!! Thanks to xda, the solution is provided in the link in the comments.***
Couple of days ago I got this OTA notification that Android 7.1 preview is available for update. As my phone is rooted I started the manual update procedure. After the flashing was finished, I restarted the phone and then I saw it was stuck at the Google screen. Just stuck, no response. Seemed unusual to me.
Let me tell you that I have been modding my Nexus 5 for about two years. I am familiar with most of the tweaks that can be done to a Nexus device. Nexus 5 served me amazingly. I bought Nexus 5x 3 months ago.
So, after it was stuck I restarted. Still stuck. I will tell you step by step what I did then:
1. Flashed the OS 7.1 again (I dunno why, the flash.all script doesn't work for me, so I always do that manually) - result is the same.
2. Last October update (NBD90W) was available in the folder so I flashed that - same result.
3. I downloaded the previous one (NRD90S) and flashed that - same result.
4. I locked the phone and unlocked again to erase everything (not sure if that's a good idea), then flashed the OS again - same result.
5. Then I tried LGUP and the tot files to give it the factory version. LGUP detects the phone, started installing. When the installation is finished and the phone restarted - same result.
6. Now that I gave it the factory version the phone got locked!
7. I searched google for hours but couldn't find a way to unlock it as the OS is not booting and I cannot turn USB debugging on!
8. Then I tried the default recovery mode (Android recovery, from the recovery screen Power + volume up) as it doesn't require unlocking the device. Wiped the cache and restarted - same result.
9. My phone is detected by the pc and ADB. So, I wiped everything and tried ADB sideload and get this error E: footer is wrong
10. I tried Nexus root toolkit. It detects the phone in fastboot mode, then restarts it and then it again is stuck on the Google screen.
I am extremely depressed!
I am from Bangladesh and there is no authorized LG servicing center here. So, I can't ask for their help.
All that I did over the past two years was the awesome threads of xdadevelopers. So, a big thumbs up for you guys . :good:
I learnt from the web that phone can be hard bricked if a wrong bootloader is flashed. That's impossible for me as I always remove the factory image extracted files after flashing is done from the ADB>platform-tools folder.
Now, is the phone hard-bricked? If it is, what to do with it? Will replacing the motherboard get my phone back? Any kind of suggestion will be very much appreciated.
Bummer. This sounds a lot like what I just posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/req-help-bootloop-7-1-1-beta-ota-enter-t3486957
I really hope someone has an idea how to fix this...

what is your model H790 or H791
16 or 32 GB?

Well, I don't get bootloops, my phone is just stuck at the Google screen and I can enter recovery mode (lying Android with red exclamation mark), from there I can enter Android recovery mode, where ADB sideload is available.

How about trying to get a replacement if you're still within the 1 year warranty?

Please say something about replacing the motherboard. It's very very pricey, so I want to be sure -_-
sounds like its hardware problem, contact seller to replace it. if not going to happen, then buy a new phone from a company that does have a dealer in your country to warrant. aside of camera, the specs of other phones at this price range are better
That thought is also roaming around my head, still Nexus is Nexus!
What's the price going for the 5X over there? It's as low as $280 here in the US which is easy better then it's original.

Try the tutorial here. It's little bit different from the original thread ,
as @bardhi92 said, THE MAIN DIFFERENCE HERE IS THAT AFTER I FLASHED THE .TOT FILE, I BOOTED MY PHONE INTO BOOTLOADER AND DID AN ADB SIDELOAD OF THIS OTA.ZIP
Well, for my case, eventually I successfully bring my N5X alive. The tricky part is to enter Android System Recovery (hold Power + Volume Up) after flashing TOT.

Goodluck, and let us know the result.. :fingers-crossed:
A warranty is a warranty, it doesn't matter what country you're in or where the repair place is. People in Canada send stuff to the USA for warranty issues all the time. I'd get on the phone with LG until I heard what I wanted, but I'm a stubborn old goat lol.
