While searching the web re: info on the Pixel XL, I came across a YouTube unboxing Vid of a Pixel handset showing what in contains and more to the point what its dosnt contain ie "HEADPHONES". With the cost of these hands sets, one would have thought headphones would have been standard....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mNK-hDEFZw
Well, I saw the same video with headphones but they are not listed as an accessory on Googles webpage. Guess we will have to wait until the 20th to find out for sure.
I also saw video and pictures of an unboxing that showed earbuds in the box

Headphones are often standard outside of the U.S. (although not always). It's hit or miss in the U.S., often with more misses.
Good. I just throw them in the trash anyway.
I have good headphones already, I don't need the freebie junk.

The last time I used headphones included with a phone was never. The only reason I'd care is if there were no 3.5 mm headphone jack, then I'd want a pair of headphones or an adapter until I could get a better pair to use.

It's the opposite, they're usually not the standard everywhere except some places (AU, FR...) where they are standard by law.
Do not want headphones anyway.

Because it is not a Nexus, and they rebranded to Pixel for competing with iPhones. Is it a huge ask? I use headphones with mics for meetings and do not have a second pair :crying:

NO.
Earphones are under the power adapter ONLY for AU (and in future, A FEW other countries if it will be sold in France etc).
MOST of the countries won't have the earphones. PERIOD.

Had the same thought! I use them as toss around headphones. Not like I don't have others but dang I wanted to see how Google thought headphones should look... invisible I guess.
On the other hand my Note 7 came with a pretty decent set, changeable silicon thingys and all! Hopefully they don't melt down or explode tho...
Ok some EU countries insist phones must be sold with hands free option. It is aim to reduce accidents ... Don't know if it is effective.
It is in a similar way that some EU countries you not allowed to sell a bicycle without a bell and lights
In AU we get headphones. They are really nice too, am very happy with them. The ones that came with the Nexus 6P were similar to the Apple ones, and don't sit in my ear properly.
The "in-ear" ones that came with the Pixel have decent bass, and great response.
We didn't get headphones here in Canada either which I thought was ridiculous for the price. Other people say they don't use them but I would have as a cheap pair when k needed them.
Years ago I had a Samsung Galaxy Nexus , I believe that came with headphones . My guess on that would be it was due to the fact it was Samsung putting the headphones in the box , I could be wrong . The only headphones I ever really liked where the ones that came with my HTC M8 . I know the HTC wasn't a nexus device just demonstrating out of all the phones I have owned in the past only one pair I really cared for is all .
I would like to know who made the in ear monitors which are being sold here in India. No branding, nothing, just a white coloured IEM, haven't even used it, so can't speak for the sound quality.

Sony Ericsson MW600. Bluetooth headphones that work pretty well with the Atrix.
you need to make sure you have compatible software (music player) - there are only 4 wires (connections) - left and right audio, mic, and ground - putting more buttons doesn't change this fact.
Something has to interpret what connections you are making and breaking and turn that into actions.

I use these for both travel, and to drown out noise at work while I am constipating deeply:
Motorola S9-HD
So far I have had 5 hours battery life on a full charge, despite reading previously that a full charge was 2-1/2 - 3 hours. Now I have had time to really use them I have found it to be good. Also, the mic, although in one of the earpieces has had good feedback as far as people hearing me on calls. Atrix battery barely drains while using these over bluetooth.

I have the original S9 headphones, this 'sport headset' stopped working because of moisture while using at the gym. I just put them in a box, but discovered that this is a major and longstanding issue that Motorola refuses to address. Sound familiar?

I hear the S10 headphone are horrendous. The reviews on amazon are bad.
I have a S9-HD (came from moto warranty), and they are pretty good with Atrix. My previous phone seemed to hate them. Coudln't get a foot away without it cracking out. Seems to work okay with Atrix.
Just make sure you buy them from moto or amazon... there are a lot of fakes.
Other ones I like are the HT820's from moto, but I don't htink they sell them anymore. They are kind of big (and hurt your ears until you get used to them), but they have amazing range and like 15 hours of battery.

I have some S10s. Had a set of S9s before that. Sound reproduction on both isn't the best but as functional devices they are excellent. For good quality a headphone rather than an earphone is the way to go.
Only real downside is that the earbuds tend to ping off in your bag.
Haven't had any issues with moisture either. Even dropped my S9s in the sink once and they were fine afterwards.

I got my set at Fry's for $50. I can see them being a problem with someone with a large head though, as the cord isn't very long. I also have experience with the Moto S10's which are also nice.
Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth. They are in-ear earbuds but you can simply unplug them and plug in any other headphone that have the 3.5mm plug turning them into Bluetooth. So you can take your favorite wired headphone and make them Bluetooth. I wear them everyday and they are only $40-$50 on Amazon.

I've been using these for about 3 years without a problem. Paired with Poweramp's equaliser, you can really tune them to suit your taste and genre of music. They're also decent on battery, cheap, and eady to modify.
I bought a pair of Motorola S305 headphones, they are over the ear style, the band goes behind the neck, they charge with standard micro usb, the sound is decent, a little static in my ears on phone calls, but people say they can hear me better than on my phone alone. I've recommended them to my friends, and four of them bought them, all but one still loving them. The other sold them for inner ear bud style ones.
I'm still using mine, still loving them

Bluetooth 5 has a range 120 to 140 feet, as apposed to 33 feet with most 4.1 bluetooth devices. But you will need a bluetooth device that matches the bluetooth accessory to get the distance. There are also other enhancements such as multiple devices can be used at the same time. I read an articel on this a few weeks ago. I hope my memory has given you some big enhancements with bluetooth 5.

Bose sound sport wireless for the win. They are awesome sound quality. 150 bucks. In my opinion the new truly wireless 250 dollar ones aren't worth it.
I bought these when I was waiting on my Essential to come, and they actually worked really well. Wasn't sure about the whole noise cancelling thing, but since they don't need to be charged separately (the phone powers the noise cancelling), I figured I would give them a shot. Really liked them, but ended up returning the Essential in favor of the 2 XL, so now I'm just hoping they're compatible, but I'm hoping that won't be an issue...they're not the most comfortable, since they have the large rubber things so they stay in place for active folks (I'm not one of them), but I got used to them. And the noise cancelling and ambient noise feature are actually pretty useful. But they've been sitting dormant since I returned the Essential and came back to good old Shamu (If only I could find a reverse 3.5mm -> USB-C adapter hahah). The fact that I got them for like $80 (down from $200 which is just ridiculous) made it a pretty good deal in my mind. The 17th can't come soon enough!
PS I wanted earbuds and didn't want wireless, or anything that needed to be charged, but the options seem to be extremely limited at this point

Another agreed, they are excellent for my HIIT cardio workouts and reasonable price!
I love my PowerBeats 2. I previously tested a bunch of different Bluetooth headphones for the gym and these are the only ones that stay in my ears consistently and have excellent sound. Battery life is around 8 hours and the Bluetooth connection distance is quite good. I can put my phone on a ledge and work my way through a ~100ft area for the weights and never lose signal.
If I decide to go with the Pixel 2 XL (still debating) I'll be getting the PowerBeats 3 for the gym and leave my PowerBeats 2 at my office desk. One area of contention with the loss of the headphone jack is that I work from home full time and have various clients calling me multiple times a day. So I usually have a set of wired headphones sitting on my desk that I can quickly plug in before answering the phone. With the 2 XL I won't have that option so I'll resort to the PowerBeats 2 to always be ready to quickly turn on and pair.
For those wondering, the PowerBeats 3 are essentially the same as the previous generation but with an even greater Bluetooth signal range and longer battery life.
I have been using the Samsung Gear Circle for years. They sounds great, stay in my ear while at the gym and the battery seems to last forever.

Sony 1000xm2 just got delivered today!
So, i saw lots of discussions around for a usb-c headphones that actually works with pixel 2 (mine is pixel 2xl)..
I ordered long time ago this usb-c headset from AliExpress, and forgot about it, then i received it today.. And it wooooorks.. Its actually really good (not saying high end headset good) but high volume, definitely noticeable bass, and very cheap (about 10$)..
So the secret was when i was searching for something that works with pixel 2 is to have CDLA (maybe a dax feature or a driver in it)..
Below you can see its picture and a link.. but also you can just search for usb c with CDLA on AliExpress..
The link:
Original Letv CDLA Earphone Letv 2Pro HiFi Chip Inbedded Continual Digital Lossless Audio Type-C for Xiaomi 6 Gold Galved Mic
http://s.aliexpress.com/z2aAjyMf
(from AliExpress Android)
What i don't like (but can live with it since its that cheap) is that its not in ear, its more like the shape of apple's one's.. And the mic is on the wire of the left ear (strange given that am used to the mic being on the right ear wire)
Honestly, the main reason for me to use it is that am on the phone a lot, and i want a quick plug and play mono headset, so am going to cut off one of the ears speakers (mono conversion).. And with it being that cheap, i don't mind the cutting (at least not a 50$ plus for an earset that i will end up cutting)
BAHAHA Looks like they took their iPhone headphones and put a USB C on instead of a Lightning. But having used the apple ones I might be interested in a pair since I kinda like em.

Can't get these to work on my phone. Is there an option I haven't enabled, or is Flash Kernel interfering in someway maybe?
Can confirm they work on my computer so its not the headphones themselves

So the Pixel Buds seem more like Pixel Duds according to the reviews, and I really cannot stand earbuds which don't seal the ear channel. I'm wondering if any of you have founds truly wireless earbuds they are truly satisfied with. I guess likely candidates are

Was actually thinking of buying the apple airpods for pixel 2

I've been enjoying these Treblab XR500 . I spent like $30 to $40 dollars at most for em off Amazon. They sound amazing. Sometimes you have to resync if u turn them on while music is playing. Can't go wrong either way

So the Pixel Buds seem more like Pixel Duds according to the reviews, and I really cannot stand earbuds which don't seal the ear channel. I'm wondering if any of you have founds truly wireless earbuds they are truly satisfied with. I guess likely candidates are
Samsung Gear IconX (2018)
Bose SoundSport Fee
Jabra Elite Sport True
Bragi Dash Pro
Sony WF-1000X
B&O BeoPlay E8

I bought airpods. It seems they work fine as long you use only with one devices.
But for me switching between 3 devices (Pixel 2, Android Tablet, Windows Laptop) was a nightmare.
I actually came to a point of frustration when I could not get airpods staying connected to my tablet, so I seriously consider returning them.
I love my Bragi Dash Pros, they sound great and have a lot of feature to them. The noise cancelling is excellent and the gestures are really nice once you get use to them.
Unfortunately, they suffer from the Pixel Bluetooth bug like many other BT headsets (Can prompt voice command, but it won't hear you, supposed to be fixed soon).
The biggest issue I have in general is their Bluetooth signal strength, I haven't had issues using them with the Pixel fortunately but on my OP5, just putting my phone in my back pocket would cause audio to cut in and out.
Odd thing is I could set my OP5 down and go over a room and they would be fine, so IDK.
Anyways:
Pros:
Great sound for BT headphones (especially with V4A!!)
lots of features (Alexa integration just got added too)
Great battery life (definitely get around 5 hours of use out them at work, pop them in the case when I go to lunch which holds a lot of charge, top back up quick!)
Cons:
No AptX
Expensive compared to some of the competition
BT connection could be better with certain devices
Got a Sennheiser CX BT7.00 bundled with the Google Pixel 2 as a pre-order offer. Have been using it for the past couple of days and must say it is making complete use of aptX.
I bought the MEIZU EP52 from here https://www.geekbuying.com/item/MEIZU-EP52-Bluetooth-Headphones-with-Mic-385260.html. They're $37. and sound good, especially for the price. I've paired them with several devices without problems. Also, one very important point is that the headphones are APT-X digital audio compatible. If you don't get APT-X on your headphones, when you watch a video the lip sync will most likely be off. There are reviews available on youtube.

Not necessarily, my Dash Pros don't have APTX and voice/lips are always in sync.

Those Dach Pros are awesome looking earbuds! I just realized that this thread was meant specifically for "truly" wireless earbuds. Anyway I was curious and checked the specs for the Dach Pros, apparently they suppport the AAC codec which has low latency. My Pixel 2 uses the AAC codec in my BMW and it sounds pretty good.
