Hi XDA Friends,
First post in a very long time.
Just ordered a used SM-T807R4 from ebay, this is the US Cellular branded Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Got a killer price and did not want pass up.
I have absolutely no intention to ever use cellular data and will never use the cellular radio on in this tablet. Wi-fi is all I need and want.
Anyhow as this is a US device that has cellular capabilities and thus I am 99.9% sure this has the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. Can't confirm this right now with CPU-Z but will do that one I get this thing.
I wanted to ask if anyone has thoughts on if this may work with the Nougat 7.0 ROM posted by Schischu based on the fact I don't need cellular.
I had intended to root per:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/root-method-t807r4-10-5-t3326827
Then I'd use the T-805 ROM build (aosp-7.0.0-latest-chagalllte.zip)
Again I don't need or care about cellular (just want wifi), and yes my device almost surely has Snapdragon CPU (and not Samsung Exynos).
It is not clear to me if the Nougat or MM ROMs from Schischu are only designed for Exynos based tablets or not.
Yeah I have the same model and it has a snapdragon processor. I am 99.9% sure nougat work because I asked Schischu he said it won't work on snapdragon processer tablet which is really depressing so I haven't installed 7.0. I am waiting for offical marshmallow to come to the tablet but us cellular is really slow. Also did you get the tablet for 169.99 usd.I got mine but had to 40 in fees since I'm in Canada.

So basically it's clear that the only way to get ROM updates for Snapdragon based tablets is via the US carriers? That is quite disappointing. All recent Samsung Tab S ROMs (MM/Nougat) on XDA are only for Exynos chipsets?
Yea I got the Tab s for that price, and about $10 shipping to CA where I live.
Based on what I read about US Cellular they are in last place with updates, I would not hold my breath for even Marshmallow. I should have paid a bit extra and gotten a Samsung Exynos based unit. Oh well...
Since all the other US carriers (T-Mobile/ATT/Verizon) have released MM (and they too carry Snapdragon units) I would imagine that someone will port this over for US Cellular, but appears to me that XDA is heavily focused on global community where Exynos is the sole chipset.
Has anyone here successfully loaded MM on a US Cellular SM-T807R4 (Snapdragon based) unit????
AOSP is CPU Agnostic, that is to say it does not matter which processor is used.

Thanks steamrollerpark, so then we are making some progress here.
Let's move on to next requirement:
Both of Schischu's MM and Nougat ROMs state that TWRP of 2.8.6.2 or higher is required.
Are the TWRP's also specific to Exynos/Snapdragon?
I can see that Ashyx made v2.8.5.0 specifically for Snapdragon:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rp-twrp-2-8-5-0-recovery-snapdragon-t3055758/
So build number of this TWRP is too low for Schischu's ROMs.
I was hoping to use: TWRP-3.0.2-1-T805/T807 listed on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...p-2-8-6-1-unofficial-sm-t800-805-807-t3074633
My device in a T807, but it's specifically a T807R4 that is Snapdragon. I know a few T807x devices that are Exynos I don't know if I can use any T807x based TWRP on my T807R4.
Even the website TWRP.me has: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxytabs105lte.html
"TWRP for Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE"
But I can't tell if that can be used for Snapdragon based devices.
Update: Gave up on this.
Returned the SM-T807R4 and got a SM-T800 (Wifi-only). Looking forward to Nougat!

Hey all, I've decided to get a Tab s 10.5 however cant decide which CPU to go for, im not interested in LTE but it seems its the LTE version that has the snapdragon CPU. I live in the UK and on Samsungs official online store they sell both the WiFi version and LTE version with the Exynos CPU. However Carphone Warehouse are selling the LTE version with a "2.3ghz Processor" but it doesnt say Snapdragon although i assume it is. Its an extra £80 so is it worth it if i dont really need the 4G
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/tablet/samsung-gal-tab-s-10point5-4g?colourCode=BRONZE (click features then specifications)
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/comparison?prda=SM-T805NTSABTU&prdb=SM-T800NTSABTU (need to click "ALL" on the right hand side)
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/tablets/tab-s/SM-T805NTSABTU (need to scroll down and click more specs)
I dont know if those links will work or not
I think all Euro/Asian version are with Exynos, both LTE and WiFi only. So far I have not heard of anyone having the Snapdragon variant, my guess is that it may be limited only to some US operator variants or such.
Carphone warehouse 8.4 lte here on O2. It's Exynos, not snapdragon
Hmm so Carphone Warehouse have mis printed it? I suppose i could go in and ask to see the back of the box lol. If it turns out it is the snapdragon which is better? Itll mainly be used for youtube and browsing
Also i am going to tether it to my note 3 that has 4g but have never done it so dont know how it works. For me to utilise 4g on the tablet through my phone i take it ill need the LTE version?
It's all a bit confusing. Qualcomms website states that the Tab S LTE is powered by Snapdragon.

You will only need the lte version if you plan to use a sim card inside the tablet. If you are tethering to your phone then you will only need the wifi model.

As far as I know, Wifi only model does not come with ear speaker. I use it a lot as a phone, VoIP, replaced my phone at home, with Skype etc. Works great!
After doing a bit of research about it myself, recently. I have just found sellers with incorrect info about what they have for sale. All of them so far have the Exynos.
It is kind of funny though, the Samsung spec page has them listed as Exynos.

While the Qualcomm site says they are using their Snapdragon.

Yes confusing.
Supposedly only the Verizon LTE version uses the Snapdragon. Probably due to the modem integration.
I would normally open a new thread, however this post comes up on top in a Google search about the OP's original question which was never answered. Since this question was never really intended to be about whether the warehouse were really selling what they said they were or not. But instead about whether the Qualcomm CPU was worth the Exynos CPU on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. The question is being asked again.
i bought this table Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE SM-T805 16G 2 days a go iam confuse becuase i read spcification of this tablet over the net all of them says WIFI SM-T800 and 3G SM-T801 use exynos 8 core and LTEs model use snap but my lte tablet use exynos

As far as my understanding goes, all S models are Exynos for now.
Pro line is Snapdragon.
I think only certain US Carriers use the Snapdragon chip Tab S LTE.
this chipset exynos 5420 is 3g in general no 4g lte .this is new 5420 with lte included or lte has dedicated chipset ?
becuase my note 3 n900 exynos 5420 support only 3g freq. but 5420 in this tablet support 4g let
if use another chipset just for lte power consumption is too much more than 3g
as i know, the tab S model use intel chip to support 4g
I have not (yet) read on any Samsung site of any Tab S using Snapdragon. To avoid any future confusion, I suggest to forget the other sites, and go straight to the source themselves (Samsung) .....

Maybe they are oblivious to it and need to be informed. You could contact them and ask.
Gsmarena is one of these sites
The mods know about the Snapdragon issue. Because Snapdragon is offered in some limited markets they say it should remain. I don't agree as the vast majority of these devices are Exynos. It is misleading but they won't change it.

I could only suggest that they need to " amend " the description, not " omit ". Just add Exynos to it, that's all. Or go the " hard " way and have separate forums same as other devices .... End of confusion
I thought AT&T were getting the snapdragon LTE models. May be wrong though.

Samsung.com doesn't list any Qualcomm specs for the T700/T705/T800, says they're all Exynos™ 5 Octa (1.9Ghz Quadcore + 1.3 Ghz Quadcore).
The only possible Tab S with a Snapdragon is the T805.
Does anybody on this forum have a Snapdragon Tab S?

I just ordered the Sprint variant of the Tab S 10.5 (SPHT807TAB) yesterday, and it uses the Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974). Unsure if the other carriers have/will release it.

So the T807 is the Snapdragon model.
How's the performance?

It shipped out today, so I most likely won't know until Monday or Tuesday. But I'd imagine the performance will be just like my Note 3 since it's the same SoC and memory.

Yes, please keep us informed.
I picked up the WIFI version a few days ago after seeing it posted here that BB was discounting the 32GB. I am not noticing any significant lags other than within certain apps that I have also noticed it my Note 8. I would be torn over which to choose, the Snapdragon/Sprint or the 32GB version.
Incidentally, if you chose the the monthly option @ $27 (total $650) , did it also include the cellular plan for 2 years or was that additional? (Update:Never mind, found the answer on the Sprint website)
My Tab S from sprint will be here shortly. I will post back about its performance. I am trying to find out if there is a root method that works for this model.

So far, even with the crap-bloatware Samsung/Sprint like to pile on, and the memory-monster-TouchWiz; this tablet is performing quite well. The Snapdragon definitely makes up for all of the aforementioned annoyances. Certainly more responsive and 'snappy' than the Exynos variant that I've messed around with. I can't wait to see how fast this is going to be running once we have root and custom kernels.
I do find it odd that they went back to the old USB 2.0 port vs the duel 3.0 port though; I get great charge times with my Note 3 using that.
I'm in the US and most of the US tablets have the cellphone functions disabled. I'm on AT&T Currently with a Huawei Mediapad X1 (LTE doesn't work, but HSPA+ seems decent enough)
It seems that if I get an international version the phone stuff is enabled, but then LTE probably won't work in the US?
Just looking for some direction as I'm only planning on buying the Tab S 8.4 if I can use it as my phone as well, I have no need to carry 2 devices.
I'm also finding it hard to tell which versions have the Snapdragon CPU. From what I can tell the CPU performance between Exynos and Snapdragon seems about the same, but the GPU performance of the Snapdragon seems much better. I do play a fair amount of games.
Thanks!
I am not great on the version numbers but T705 is the standard exynos 4G version.
I would say go for one where you can get a firmware for the UK or somewhere else.
My T805 (10.5" exynos 4G) has all the phone functions.

Is your T805 a US model?
So if I pickup a US LTE version can I just root it and add back the dialer app to make it work as a phone? Or do they lock out the phone functions some other way in the US?
Mine is a UK T805, but if it is actually that model, so a T705. It will be Exynos 4G. You got a few websites you are looking on that I can look at the models for you?

If I get an international one from Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LVUUM6A/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1QPS08K9FKKNF
That should work fine as a phone and the LTE ones should be snapdragon 800 equipped.
The issue is these international ones won't work with LTE bands in the US
So that's why i'm wondering if I get a US one (LTE bands will work in the US of course) can I somehow get the software on it to be able to use as a phone (As the US disables phone capability somehow)
My current phone is a Chinese LTE phone, the LTE does not work in the US, but I do get HSPA+ which is decent enough, It would just be nice to have US LTE and Phone working...
What network are you using, can check what Bands they are using?

I'm on AT&T, I already know the international LTE phones won't work on the AT&T LTE Bands. I'll just have to live with HSPA+
So you would be getting a T707A if you got the AT&T specific one. or a T705 for the international.
There are no T707A custom ROMs, only for rooting. I guess it will not have phone software Regardless of the version of software on samfirmware.
T705 will do 3G nicely, where I live I get HSPA+ and its quick - only get 4G in town.

Pretty much what I figured, I will just get the T705 international one and just live with HSPA+
From what I can tell all the T705 are snapdragon 800's, That Amazon link doesn't say what CPU it has. I'm pretty sure i'd rather have the snapdragon over the Exynos as the GPU appears to be way faster.
I think you will find the T705 is an exynos. Dont be fooled as with the intel modem they put exynos in their 4G versions.

I haven't had issues myself - I have found it fast. Especially if you disable any crap that comes with it you don't need.

Hello,
given that:
(i) where I live the LTE version has similar or significantly lower prices than that Wi-Fi version, since it goes more often on sale
(ii) I do not plan to use LTE at all, I would be fine with a Wi-Fi only tablet;
(iii) I am not interested in replacing the stock ROM during the first one or two years of use;
(iv) I am a bit worried about the inferior custom ROM compatibility and support for the LTE version;
would it be justified to spend more for the Wi-Fi version only to gain a better custom ROM compatibility in the future?
Also I do not understand if T800 ROMs will work on the T805 apart from the LTE functionality.
I am quite undecided so I hope to get some advice.
Thank you in advance
Most custom t800 roms work just fine on the t805.
There are plenty of t805 roms available anyway.
I don't really understand what people want when they say custom rom or what they are actually expecting.
The stock rom can be modified and tweaked to suit most.
Custom roms are really not that necessary, I usually have more problems with them than anything else. Your main focus should be xposed compatibility and unlocked bootloaders. For example, if you're going to get a LTE version you need to make sure you get it from a known carrier that does not lock bootloader (such as t-mobile). Since you have no plans to use the LTE, make the smart decision of buying one that isn't locked.
Also, the LTE version uses Qualcomm processors, which means in theory it would have the best compatibility in applications because a significant chunk of Android uses Qualcomm in other brands.
Personally I went with the wifi only, because it was cheaper and it was only slightly slower than the LTE version.
Most LTE devices are Exynos not Snapdragon, in fact I'm not sure any of the 8.4 LTE models use Snapdragon.
Only the Sprint LTE model uses Snapdragon and that doesn't have a locked bootloader.

In short, yes.
See here for unofficial Lineage build. Limitation is no IMS (volte) though.
I'm considering buying a G970U (US version) with 8GB RAM and paying for bootloader unlock code, see here.
Perhaps best option is to continue work of OP in that thread and build your own with security updates.

Can you tell me what the holdup is with the no IMS / VoLTE development on Snapdragon models, and when this is expected to change if at all, and what forum I need to follow to track this status? I live in the US and I just acquired a S10e G9700U1 thinking I could put LineageOS 18 or 19 on the phone and have VoLTE work. From what I've read, all of the carriers are pretty much mandating VoLTE as a matter of policy for the sake of 4G system management. Ever since the carriers dumped 3G I've been forced to resort to T-Mobile which has an awful footprint in order to keep running LineageOS with my S9 Dual Sim unit as Red Pocket refused to activate Verizon after AT&T shut down 3G and gave me the boot.

I have no idea what the issues are with this though I've seen it with multiple devices so I assume the code stack for IMS services is custom to each device/ROM and come with their own idiosyncrasies/bugs to work out.
Perhaps shout up @klabit87 or other devs in the relevant forums for pointers.
I was extremely lucky and managed to get a free xperia 1 iv as it was refunded/cancelled but still delivered so I'm no longer pursuing a S10e solution.
EDIT: To add to this, the 'holdup' as you put, mostly comes down to the US snapdragon model not having official bootloader unlock support therefor there are very few devs, if any, working on it. The international version uses exynos chipset, the bootloader of which is unlock supported. This is why all the ROMs are exynos only.

Thanks for the insight. From what I've read this is probably between Samsung and Qualcom where Qualcom charges Samsung for VoLTE/IMS licensing and subsequently Samsung can't or won't share the content, and it sounds like it's a lot of effort to reverse engineer. I have a Samsung S9 Duos which is international and running LOS 17.1, but I can only set it up with T-Mobile, and possibly not using VoLTE as it only says on my mobile carrier menu LTE and not VoLTE. From what I read Verizon and AT&T are forcing everyone to use VoLTE and won't let phones without it on their networks. So this makes Samsung custom ROMs in the US mostly useless.
I was considering trying to get a Exynos for the S10e as I love the formfactor and the 256GB memory, but if I wanted a Duos Exynos I'd have to pay 4 or 5 times what my US S10e version cost me, and then I'd probably be in the same boat as I was before with my S9. I'm shifting to a Pixel 5a or possibly a Moto G7 power as those are both reported to work on VoLTE, at least that's what I've heard.
