Android Beta Program with Root?! - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just sigend up for the Android Beta Program and immediatly got a notification for an OTA-Update. But I'm currently on Stock+Root, so normally OTA's should not be available. Do they work in this special condition or am I running in the risk of "bricking" my N5X?

[Q] OTA Update ota_bravo_htc_eu_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cypyi0feo4th5.zip

I'm running (at the moment) a copy of Pinky's ROM on a rooted Desire. So I was quite surprised when I got notified this update was available for download:
ota_bravo_htc_eu_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cypyi0feo4th5.zip 25MB
Anyone know anything about it? And no, I wasn't stupid enough to download and install an unknown update from HTC onto a rooted and non-standard Desire. The Least that would likely happen is having to reinstall my OS; the worst is a locked and bricked unusable device.
It's too small for a new version of the official HTC set up - but it might be a substantial update...
So, anyone else got this? Know anything about it? Too new for google...
- Update : Android OS update patch
- Enhanced multi inbox Gmail support
- Improved RUS keyboard layout
It can't be applied to a custom ROM, it's been said a number of times

Been outa the game a while...software update?

Haven't really been following development since root was achieved.
Phone is a Taiwan H815. Currently running V10c-TWN-XX. Is there any update (has there been an OTA for the phone?)
Also, any thing that I *must* do? I see there is the CTT mod available (Beta v3), is that worth doing?

Huawei W1 Android Wear Preview 5 to General release

OK so I am a complete beginner with Android. I've had my W1 for nearly a year.
When Android Wear 2.0 reached Preview 5 I decided to take the leap and load it onto my watch.
All is working fine and has been fine for some time.
My question is Huawei have advertised and confirmed that the Full release of Android wear 2.0 is coming end of March. If that is the case, do I need to downgrade my watch to the previous version of Android Wear to receive the update or will i receive the update anyway?
Any help or advice appreciated.
I think you have to flash a new image when it is out, or downgrade to receive it via ota
There are many questions in various threads about this.
Many users are making wild ass guesses, but they have nothing reliable to base those on.
tl;dr We will not know until it ACTUALLY releases!
Based on my experience reading the updater scripts of OTAs in other android devices, there is always a firmware designated as the "target" firmware for the OTA to update. If the firmware installed on the device does not match the target, the OTA aborts. The target firmware in this case will undoubtedly be the latest official release, so I think there is a high probability that the OTA will fail (or just not show up) if you have DP5 installed.

Android 11 released for G Stylus -- anyone got it?

I saw yesterday on various tech boards that the G Stylus (Pro) has started receiving the official Android 11/R updates, with the first ones appearing on January 30th or so. Saw many screenshots of the update screens and read a few user reports/reviews.
It appeared that many of the reports are coming out of the UK and Europe. Has anyone here received the update or notification yet? I'm running RR 8.6.4, so I won't get the notification. However, if its being pushed out already --- I might revert to the 10 stock rom and give it a go.
Also, I'm guessing the factory unlocked and unbranded phones are more likely to get the push than the retail branded variants, correct? If you have received the 11 build, what variant/carrier do you have?
I'm running the factory unlocked variant, with verizon as my carrier (doesn't matter lol. just throwing it out there).
I recently got an update. Finally installing it. QPR30.80-58-8-3-2-4. It's not android 11, just an update. Why update if there is a whole new version of software. Seems like a waste of time. Which makes me think 11 isn't coming anytime soon.
I made a .bat to flash the g pro 11 update on my metro stylus. Running pretty smooth. Stylus options are updated as well. I dont know about the service since I dont have metro anymore and its locked to them. If anyone has an unlocked bootloader and wants it let me know.
No Android 11 update here yet, US Unlocked. Hoping they unlock the wide angle lens for photos, among other things.
I downloaded the UK Android 11 update. I used a batch file to flash the update via fastboot without wiping data. I have an unlocked bootloader and I am on Verizon. Everything seems to be working, text, phone calls, LTE.
Thanks for the heads up. Hope to get the OTA sooner rather than later.
Hello.
I have G Pro (XT2043-7) which is the retail European (reteu) version.
There was never December update here (Serbia), but today I got notified that Android 11 and January security patch are up.
Android 11 should really be called 10.1... Anyway...
Negative
1) I noticed new Peek Display – now it's the same as on G9 models which personally I don't like (a bit of ugly).
I want Moto signature circle back :/.
2) In Developer options, they removed Theming (it was the last setting). Just why? Motorola's Android 10 phones got
Theming in Moto app, and yet it was never an option for G Pro unless you enable Dev. mode and it worked.
Now is removed or I can't find it anywhere.
EDIT
In Display, they added Styles so there you go. Why is not that a part of Moto app? Who knows...
Positive
1) Phone is smoother and launcher lag with folders is mostly fixed.
2) Gesture navigation finally works with any launcher. I personally use Shade Launcher.

Could I get the bat file?
Hello.

i have an unlocked bootloader stylus with metro and would give it a shot, still has service also... (edit) never mind made my own with the RETGB firmware from lolinet. had no issues as of yet.
I'm in the US and I just got the android 11 update last night.
I don't like it On the recents screen, they replaced the bottom row of homescreen with a screenshot button. I barely ever take screenshots, but I used that row of apps constantly.
I was excited for conversation bubbles, but the two apps I heavily use for texting/messaging; discord and Google voice, don't support bubbles (yet...hopefully).
Im thinking about installing a custom rom. The only reason I didn't yet was to get this update OTA.
Just installed it in an unlocked version and now get a VZW popup when trying to turn on hotspot
I just tested my Hotspot. It's still working with no pop-up. Of course, I'm using US Mobile, not Verizon.
I've been running 11 on a retail US model for a day or so & the stock launcher is super laggy.
I got 11 just yesterday.
Just received Android 11 OTA RPR31.Q1-56-9. Was also able to download stock ROM from LMSA:
SOFIAP_RETAIL_RPR31.Q1_56_9_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC_R4_CFC.xml
Now I'll have the corresponding boot.img and good to go with unrooting and installation of OTA
Anyone find a version of TWRP that works with it (XT2043-4)?
I have received the update. After I have tried installing ROMs with no success. I may have to update the device tree and give it a go at making updated roms

Question PC Mode on Android 12 warning

Hi guys, just a heads up. Today my European device got the global update to android 12 (MIUI Global 13.1.2). I loved this tablet due to the Xiaomi PC mode app, but unfortunately since updating to android 12 when I try to launch PC mode I receive a message that the app is incompatible with the current system version and to update it. I'm using the latest release (12.1.208.5). This is just a warning if anyone relied heavily on PC mode like I did, you may want to hold off on updating. If anyone has any tips on a possible workaround that would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hey, just noticed that too.
As I understand it the pc mode APK comes from the Mi Mix Fold which also just now got updated to android 12, so it's just a matter of picking up the new APK from that rom.
Good to know, fingers crossed someone grabs and shares that soon.

Following up on this. I downloaded the android 12 image for the mix fold and dumped the payload. Surprisingly there is no PC mode apk anywhere. It's also concerning that on the mix fold 2 they have scrapped pc mode and no included it. Perhaps it's discontinued which is a shame.
Well the PC mode for some reason included the free use of MS office apps. Now that was either a mistake or an agreement between the two companies.
So it appears that X doesn't want to continue this situation, either too expensive or offering access to things that they shouldn't have.
Although this doesn't exclude that X will at some point offer this functionality again by itself, without the office perks.
any way to have pc mode back again?

Doesn't appear to be I'm afraid. A new version of the application doesn't seem to exist, even on the phone it was originally designed for.
Well it appears there is some kind of trigger in the new Rom that it makes it incompatible.
I don't know if it works on custom ROMs, but it should have some dependancies to other X files and libraries and in one or more of them this trigger must reside.
so, maybe have to revert back to previous firmware... i used that APK frequently....

I'm not sure you can as it's gone from android 11 to 12
If possible then can anyone just try tweaking Android version and api version in system/default.props may be that would make Android 11 apk work or if anyone knowledgeable try changing the target version in apk it self... I have redmi pad and no pc mode for it just sucks....
