Hey,
So the new update for the gear VR killed Note7 support, telling users to return their devices ASAP.
I plan on doing that but when my replacement phone comes in. I literally have no phone until then. So for now, how can we continue to use the gear VR? I only got a few days out of it and it was pretty fun to use.
you can't
You can still use your Gear VR with Galaxy S7 and Note 5 models. Your purchased Oculus apps and games stays with your account and not bound to the device. You need to download those again to your new Samsung device though.
Use an older version of the Gear VR app?
The Oculus app will work just fine if you change ro.build.model to SM-G935F (the model number of the international S7 Edge) in /system/build.prop and restart. This obviously requires root access and might cause some issues with other apps (but it's very unlikely since the Note 7 is almost identical to the S7 Edge hardware wise).
Edit: I also changed ro.product.device and ro.build.product to herolte (the codename for the S7 Edge), ro.product.name to heroltexx and ro.build.flavor to heroltexx-user, so if just changing the build.model doesn't work, try changing these too.
If you really want to use the Gear VR with your Note7, Package disable everything related to Oculus/Gear VR. That way when the devices are connected it wont launch Oculus. Then install other VR apps from the playstore, some have their own content, lets you play your own personal videos etc. Launch your preferred app, connect the devices, and do whatever you gotta do.
Side buttons doesnt seem to work, but you can make selections on screen by hovering your curser over icons.
Disabling Gear VR will disable ability use Samsung VR...
use an older oculus variant? Somenone can name the version that work last time with note 7? I may be able to find the right one if you can name the version or date n7 was blocked.

Hi all
It is possible find somewhere/install program like VideoPane (iOS)?
I like watch TV Online on Note Pro but want use it in window
Someone know something about this tweak?
Thanks
P.S.: and how stream from Note Pro to AppleTV?
...plz dnt kick me about this stupid questions maybe
I switched from an Apple ecosystem to Android when I bought the note, that included changing from AppleTV to a Chromecast. Using that you can stream to the TV using chromecast supporting apps, and with more apps if you install "Allshare cast".
You can also do full screen-mirroring if you've rooted the tablet and use "Mirror-enable" to allow chromecast mirroring to work.
Android is not as neat in terms of in-built support at the core-OS level for streaming as much as iOS is unfortunately. But most things can be achieved with some tweaking, but I wasn't aware of anything to properly talk to the AppleTV as it pretty much exclusively used AirPlay as its method of communication.
As for VideoPane - you'll get some of that functionality from the multi-window/popup window sidebar thing if you add more apps to it. Not all apps are supported tho. Again, if you're rooted you can circumvent this limitation with a tweak that allows you to add any app to the multiwindow thing.
..and if you go the whole hog and put a customfirmware on like the recent Cyanogen mod, then the sky's the limit - tho there's a wee issue with it at the moment, so maybe hold off until version 11 is released before going down that route.

Thanks buddy for great answer
Great answer.
I'll just add that if one observes the Galaxy Note 4's feature set they'll see something promising; the ability to take any multiwindow supported app that is full screen and reduce it to a windowed application by dragging from the upper right corner of the screen. Hopefully at some point this feature trickles down to the Note Pro and Note 10.1 2014 edition as it would be a great feature to have and would be a positive step towards achieving what Videopane does on iOS.
I was told that the gear S2 is not compatible with the Tab S2, has anyone tested it, and can confirm this is true.
Update.
I have tested this and can confirm it does not work, not sure of the reason behind it.
That's odd... my gear live works just fine with it... I'm curious though why you would want it synced to your tablet and not your phone though?
I have Galaxy Tab S2 LTE and it's not compatible. Main issue is the Gear Manager app cannot load.

I have the international Galaxy Tab S2 (SM-T815) with voice capability, and it really irritates me that the Gear S2 is incompatible with it. It would be nice to use the watch and tablet together, instead of needing a phone simply to install Gear Manager. I suppose you can sideload the Gear Manager apk on the tablet, but it's inconvenient.

Side upload is not possible, it won't detect the watch, I have tried it at the samsung shop.
I had a S4 mini at that time with android 4.2 which you need 4.3 and above to work, thats why I tried to pair it with the tablet (Tab S2 SM-T715), now I have a V10 which should work, just waiting for the rose gold version of the classic, since the 3G version isn't available in my country.
Hello I have a Verizon tab s2 I sure no root at all. I have the gear s2 would love to get gear app to work. I can't edit buildprop.. maybe someone working on the gear app it self to help with this or am I out of luck......thanks
Yep Gear Manager - typical Samsung stupidity.
Now it's possible with samsung flow

Just need to change the device fingerprint, it should be fine.
MagiskHide Props Config v4.0.2 <-- Use that, switch your device to something that is compatible, install the required app. You may have to wipe cache / data to the play store, first.
Is there any way to modify the Gear VR to work with S7 Active? Any place I could get the necessary apps to try? I feel like it would work if I modified the micro USB on the VR to allow the bulky S7 Active to fit in the holder.
Also, if there is an appropriate substitute for the Gear VR, or just general info on what works for the Active specifically, thank you in advance. I tried the Homido V2 and while the phone fits in, that accessory's functionality leaves much to be desired.
going to wake this thread up..
as im also trying to get my Active working in a GearVR (i have the newer type SM-R323)
after modding the connector, all sits in there ok...
but it doesnt respond ATALL ...
have manually installed Gear.VR Service (System, SetupWizard, Oculus System drivers, Oculus Rooms, and made sure both facebook services are install/running too)
all found here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxjU5RlzRaM1VERfdnVGY0ZycFU/view
but even after all that i get NOTHING when plugging it !
what else can/could i try, as have read in the larger thread that someone DID get it going, and that was BEFORE we had root1..
have read that its got to do with build.prop, but need root for that i thought ...
will edit this post if i get anywhere further !
Can't help you with getting the gearVR to recognise unfortunately, I did hear that there was a hacked version of the gearvr app floating around that had been forced to recognise the active but given the lack of native support, I wasn't about to spend all that money without a guaranteed fix.
I bought a pair of Xiaomi VR glasses for $16 which fits, recognises and responds to the active just fine. All google cardboard VR Apps and Games are compatible and I bought a bluetooth VR controller.
Pretty cool, and gives you a taste of VR for a very low price. Having tried the gear VR and it's "OCULUS" apps etc I have to say you are not really missing much. The head tracking is quicker on the gearVR obviously, but for most VR applications the head tracking using the s7 active's built in sensor is more than adequate.
I'm waiting to see which horse to back before purchasing a real VR headset to use with my PC.
yeah i thought there was some kinda app hack, but cannot find any info other than rumour ..
cannot seem to even use carboard apps with this GearVR as it doesnt recognize anything, i dont have any form of button input ..
agreed on which one to back ! ive tried the HTC vive, and that was VERY good ..
but i think they all will lack that high res, but light good fit on head/eyes for a while ! ....
will try the build.prop once i root, but as its not even recognizing anything when plugging in im skeptical at even that ..

I think some guy on one of the foreign android forums figured out that the gearvr app is just not programmed to recognise the active, so you'd have to get around that which means changing the gearvr app and the plugin.
well ive managed to get all the software loaded now... can get into dev mode on gearVR, loaded the Oculus software/home etc
and can get onto Oculus store etc etc ..
but it just does not recognize the actual GearVR atall, nothing happening at plugin atall, and no response to any buttons or touchpad on it either
but edging closer with all software loading properly !!
thought i would give another update on this, show that im still trying ! .. As im now rooted, have started editing the build.prop ! changing ;
ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G891A
to that of the normal S7 .. ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G930F
doesnt make ANY difference
nowt happens when pluggin in ! and non of the buttons are recognised still !
EDIT
thought i would edit more things...
ro.product.model=SM-G935F
I also changed ro.product.device and ro.build.product to herolte
and ro.product.name to heroltexx and ro.build.flavor to heroltexx-user
but still nothing
EDIT2
im thinking its a version number its grabbing somewhere that it dont like,
or some kinda driver pack that needs installing !?
grrr.. this MUST be possible, and can only be a software thing as internal hardware it identical to the other s7's !

Hi, I don't know if it can help or not but, can you to change the baseband model to some Galaxy S7 firmware model?
I'm having trouble installing the Gear VR on my S Edge G925A after updated to Android N, and I have contacted Oculus support, and one of the things they asked me was what are my baseband version.
There is built-in GEAR Service app in new Nougat firmware for Galaxy S6 active. May be S7 active in Nougat is the same?
its there but still doesnt work ...
once i get my active back from repair (its been over a month now !!!)
will try another method that ive since found over on this thread ..

Could you find a solution?
nope... im pretty sure from what i found out, that its blocked somehow in the kernel
as doing locats, there is absolutly NO calls when you insert the GearVR ... compare that to say a HTC when inserting, or a S3 it errors out etc ...
but the s7active, does NOTHING like ya not even plugin it in ! so i can only presume is blocked somehow at a lowlevel point ? ...
Ok so I got this phone expecting to be able to install and run daydream apps and games. Looking on the play store aside from the official daydream app none of the other apps appear to be compatible. I could understand if some developers put device/screen restrictions on their apps but I don't see every app being that way. Is there something I'm missing or some change I need to make for the daydream compatibility?
** side note I just double checked and the official daydream app by google says incompatible device as well.

Ok so looking a little closer at the matter it appears as if Google is "automatically" giving daydream certification to most phones without LCD screens. As far as I can tell, however, the IPS screen in the G7 meets all of google's requirements. I wonder if they haven't gotten around to certifying the G7 or if they are hands down declining cert for any phone with an LCD screen. On that note does anyone know of a way without root to get daydream working on "incompatible" phones without root. I have to admit I enjoy root, but with all the manufacturers working to lock down their devices I'm trying to move away from root for the features I'm looking for. Unfortunately that means upgrading my phone more often, but alas that is the goal of the manufacturers.
I've been looking as well. Powerful phone but no good vr app?
I'm stumped on what to do. I tried to return my lg g7 thinq for the Galaxy because I am finding the Galaxy is being excepted with compatible software and yhe lg is getting passed by.
The S3 got a lot of bad publicity because some of the available apps for the watch could only be installed if the wearer's watch was paired to a Samsung smartphone. Is this the same with the Galaxy Watch? I am seriously thinking of getting this watch but lack of access to the available apps could be a deal breaker for me.
You can install apps from Galaxy Apps in a Samsung smartphone, but you can download them also directly from the watch, even if you are not connected to the phone with Bluetooth.
The bad thing is that when you download an app from the watch, you cannot see the screenshots or detailed information, and I think paid apps are not shown.
So basically you can download free apps from the watch, but the functionalities are very limited (I don't know if Galaxy Apps store can be accessed through the Galaxy Wearable app in non-Samsung smartphones)
Thanks for the insight. I've read a lot about this lately. I bought an old Samsung Galaxy S5 on EBay for €30. I hope to initially pair the watch to this phone, install all the apps I want. A lot of users say that you can then backup the watch to your Samsung account, unpair from the Samsung Phone, repair to another Android device and then restore the backup. I hope this actually works.
You can access Galaxy Apps from the Galaxy Wearable. There is a link in the Settings. Works on my SONY Xperia XZ Premium.
I have no problem accessing Galaxy App Store on Lenovo P2
I have been researching on other forums and it seems that some apps on the galaxy app store will only be shown if the connected phone is from Samsung. The Here We Go app is apparently not availabel for non-Samsung phones.

I think it might be regional issue. For example I'm not able to find Samsung Internet Browser or Speedo On apps. Although, I'm not even sure it the latter is available for Galaxy Watch. If someone has that could you send it for me.

From Speedo FAQ: The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro and Samsung Gear Sport are compatible with Speedo On. Other Samsung watches are not compatible due to lower water resistancy.

I know the FAQ but I have read from Reddit that someone has installed the app for Galaxy Watch in Canada. But I'm not sure if that is correct info. Also Samsung is advertising Speedo On for Galaxy Watch on their webpage.
