Hey guys,
I got my G4 H815 delivered with MM pre-installed a few months ago. I decided to downgrade to LP to root the phone without unlocking the bootloader. Everything worked like a charm, except the Camera won't focus anymore at all (no matter what app), the manual focus does not work either. I already did multiple factory resets (removed root, tried a different LP version) and cleared the cache for the camera app.
So after nothing worked and I worried my camera got a hardware defect, I returned to Marshmallow, and yes, the focus works perfectly fine once again. So the hardware does work. After that I tried an older LP Update, but same result. So I flashed MM for the second time tonight, and ofc it works on MM...
However, I would prefer to have a rooted (but locked) phone. Is there anything you guys could think of that causes that behavior? As I said, I got my H815 with MM pre installed!
Thanks for your help!
Any ideas?

hi !
-the firmware update is to fix errors and improve the phone a bit. there are several videos on youtube that show the focus problem of g4. focus is slow. mine was with MM too so i don't have any personal experience on that problem.
-yes you can root without unlocking. unlocking the bootloader is something you are gonna do to install a custom bootloader or custom recovery.
Also search better this forum. there are custom roms you can install and keep your bootloader untouched
Sorry for bringing up such an old thread, but have you found any fixes? Im having the exact same problem right now.
Same here, I was forced to go back to MM as a result, but i miss having root so much

Hey guys,
I've bought Desire Z recently and today a problem occured: when I start the camera app (either via SW shortcut or HW key) I get just backlit black screen and all I can do is to press Home.
Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks.
You're using the stock ROM, right ?
I would try a factory reset. If that doesn't fix the problem, then it sounds like it has a faulty camera, return it.
Yes, I'm using stock ROM. I've tried factory reset for 2 times and it didn't help, so I guess returning the phone is my only option.
The wierd thing is that the camera worked just fine and then it started to show only a black screen.
Move your finger???
Tried, not helping
Now when I think about it I come to conclusion that the problem occured after the last update (the one supposed to enhace camera performance). Could it be the cause? Can it be undone?
If I perform factory reset I still have this update installed (OS version 2.2.1).

Do you still have S-OFF or are you back to S-ON now ? If you are S-ON then there is no way currently for you to downgrade if you're on the new 1.72 ROM, since right now it is not rootable.
I haven't had S-OFF so I don't have now as well.
But it doesn't matter to me anymore, I'm returning the device (already have bought a new one - so far didn't update to the 1.72 ROM and camera works fine). Now I don't know if I should perform the update.
Anyway, thx everybody for trying to help.
Greetings, I wonder if somebody can solve the following problem. I'm from Venezuela and I bought this model GT-I9192 in December 2013 when the update came out this year it was updated from 4.2.2 (JellyBean) to 4.4.2 (KitKat). I almost never use the camera of this phone and then I noticed that every time I opened the camera app I would get "Warning: Camera Failed". Thinking it was the update I proceeded to install the Cyanogenmod rom 11 for this model, but continued with the same problem. The flash works every time I turn the flashlight application. I took it to a technician telling me that the problem was not hardware but software. This is where my troubles began. I do not remember which firmware was installed. I tried to install several firmwares 4.2.2. but without success all with flashing failures. However, I could install version 4.4.2 of Trinidad and Tobago but with the same camera error. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem. I would like to know exactly what firmware should download to install? Thank you very much.

I registered here just to answer your question.
My Android expertise is very limited but I try to learn from past experience. If I understand correctly, your want:
1. the camera should work.
2. the phone should function properly.
If you do not remember your original firmware, do not worry as it does not matter. Once your upgraded to KK, Knox (google it) kicked in to prevent you from downgrading to JB. That's why all flashing efforts to downgrade failed. So, you can keep your phone with KK if the phone works except camera. In case you want to downgrade to JB, I am sure that able XDA members can help you with that. I am unaware if such methods exist.
Now, to see if the camera works there are several methods. I encountered the same problem with my wives i727 Skyrocket which has JB 4.1.2 installed. One day the camera suddenly failed with the error "Warning: Camera Failed". The flash-light worked flawlessly so I was a bit perplexed. I researched and found several remedies:
1. From application manager, clear cache/data of the camera app and restart phone - Tried this several times, did not work.
2. Perform factory reset- Thought I'd use it as a last resort as the phone had gigs of data in it.
3. Uninstall apps (last installed app uninstalled first and so on) - I uninstalled the last installed app and restarted the phone. Voila! The camera was back. I have no explanations why but it just worked.
Let us know how it goes, good luck!
On the i9195, it is possible and easy to downgrade to JB since there's a 4.2.2 firmware which is similar to the 4.4.2 firmwares, but I don't know about the i9192.
Be careful with this;
If you know what you are doing, get the CWM recovery, format system/data and flash a 4.4.2 firmware again. If that didn't fix it, I suspect that it's a hardware problem and it's having problems with the software, but there should be something wrong with the hardware, for sure.
Good Luck.

Tried that too and nothing. I also suspect that the problem is a hardware issue. Thank you for the reply.

The problem, in fact is a fault in the hardware problem. If it's still under warranty, request a new phone.
Hello all,
I rooted my G4 ( h815, rooted v10b ) with this tricks : http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765
All was perfect, until one day, my camera sometimes didn't launch and make reboot my phone.
So I decided to update my phone to MM. ( so I unrooted the phone and update it with lg bridge )
But the probelm is still here under MM !
There is 3 sort of possibilities when I launch the camera :
- the camera work
- the camera app crash
- the phone reboot
After a reboot of the phone, the camera always work. But after sometimes it crash again and I need to reboot.
What do you think of that ?
Thanks.
Same here
I am having exactly the same problem.
I had not rooted my phone, it started happening after the MM upgrade.
Another upgrade came out recently and it seems to happen far less so I am convinced it is software related.
Did you have any luck with finding a solution.
Thanks
Hello,
I didn't have another upgrade, I'm on v20d.
The problem is still here and now it happens really often.
I'm sending it now for reparation, but I hope they will fix it and not just hard reset the phone....
Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone could maybe figure out this issue which has been troubling me for about a month or so.
I have ran marshmellow before absolutely fine however decided to flash lollipop back on my phone as I felt the battery life was better.
Anyway, whenever I come back to any version of the Marshmallow roms, i'm greeted with not being able to set a lockscreen (lockscreen has crashed), I cannot uninstall apps without a force reboot and I cannot access the security settings on the phone without it crashing.
I've tried wiping pretty much everything and it seems to be on all roms. I've tried multiple from fresh.
Any ideas?
Much Appreciated
Issue fixed, flashed a new KDZ and seems to be working

DO you know if flashing back works on verizon? I loved this phone until MM...
Also any insight on the steps, did you just use LGUP and get the KDZ off Sotragecow?

@zwalk - sorry for the late response. I did exactly that. Seemed to fix everything. I recommend trying 20f or 20g if it works with your phone as it seems to fix battery issues.
Hey guys! I have unlocked bootloader and twrp installed on my device. I was using resurrection remix os as my daily driver when suddenly after some updates the camera sometimes didn't work and i hard restarted my phone to fix it(remove the battery). So i flashed Genisys rom and somehow the problem still existed! To make sure i was gonna fix that today i flashed Full stock rom with the bootloader and the modems that are provided in a post in XDA. But the camera is not working for sure in my phone! Here is the thing..After removing the battery and pluggin it back then boot up the first time camera works, when i lock the device and unlock it then the camera resist to connect in whatever app i have tried
