The stock firmware is nice but it would be great to have options like CM and other custom ROMs… Is anyone working on that? Or maybe there's not enough interest in the Moto Z Play?
You can give it a try.
In the US it's not available to be purchased outright (not from Verizon) yet, it will be in 10 days. When that happens we should see more development on this phone.
I was browsing around, but although it looks like its bigger brother Moto Z, it is quite different in various key ways (partition sizes etc.), so it might take a bit more time. That, and Motorola still needs to release some of the open source for this phone.
[Edit: first open source drop should be occurring in the next few days, according to Motorola]

If you do something wrong you can always reflash your firmware, you're only flashing the recovery image and modifying the system image, the bootloader and boot images remain intact, so there shouldn't be any bricking going on.

Yes you can, the way used to flash is the morphing, you can use it on the 4.0.x roms and + (ICS & JB)... in more, it's written in the first post.

Does your rom have TRDS feature (The Real Dark Slim, feature coming from Slim sources you can find on many others rom now,a switch in settings to get SysUi,Settings,Framework and maybe others apk inverted)?
Anyway the case of someone saying it doesn't work on his rom will surely occurs one day,those ROM's apk are made differently:
They have a drawable-inverted-hdpi folder and it's that one that is used when TRDS is on.
This is a flashable themed stock Dialer to look like KitKat, hope You will like my work

just make a copy of Dialer.apk from /system/app in your internal memory using a root explorer so you can copy & paste it if you don't like this dialer

No, your phone is locked out, you will not receive ota's anymore and you are not covered anymore by Asus.

Call recording is not working for legal problem and chrome now is update and you have multiple pages

Should I try stable (cm 10.2 of 2014!!) or try a newer one, snapshot perhaps? A cm 13 as I don't mind for call recording maybe?

The filename of rom provided by @diyar95 is just V10. I'm sorry that I cannot find stock 010E, either. Since 010E is a beta edition, I think maybe only internal users could receive the ota. The developer that I mentioned is an internal user. Based on my understanding of her, I think she won't post the sock rom. Haha.
This rom is just a port from coolpad cool changer s1. Why is it? Because modem is similar to cool changer s1 with cpu 2.35 and system security patch is similar. So, LeEco died and we won't see new eui ever
