CM ROMs available in Chinese forums
There are CM ROMs available in official Chinese forum (bbs.zuk.cn)
CM13: bbs.zuk.cn/z2/t135170/
Download: pan.baidu.com/s/1qYlKh5a Verification Code: kd5f
CM14: bbs.zuk.cn/z2/t176429/
Download: pan.baidu.com/s/1skYQSm5 Verification Code: e95q
Google Translate may help you understand what they say.
The Baidu NetDrive would require a code as provided above when you access the file.
The ROMs are unofficial versions but they work fine.
Four promotional software exist in the ROM.
/system/app/NewBrowser
/system/app/AppCenter
/system/app/Movie2345
/system/app/Weather2345
The removal of these injected apps is recommended before use.

I own a OnePlus One and i was thinking about buy it as well but for a familiar, not for me and It's clearly that this device is far away from the OPO development, and it surprised me because it's a great device.
Just curious, and sorry for the little off-topic: how is it in terms of performance, camera and screen compared to the OPO?
Do you know if there are any update about this? I'm thinking about buy it if we can get official CM14.1 builds in some near future.
Basically I'm interested in buying it only if there are a fully functional custom rom like CM, slim or omni.

Yeah i saw that at least in that forum there is much more activity, but even with that the development is not as good as i would like to see. Maybe I'm quite exigent with this but i think this device has a really good potential since his source code was published some few months ago and i don't see big results for now.
For example, the only official builds from a recognized development group i saw was from Mokee. That doesn't need to mean the development is bad but also I'm seeing some people complaining about some minor issues in unofficial builds like CM13.

I see what you mean though don't agree with. If you talk of chinese cm13 then yes.
Just take the latest release from fedor and you'll be good. I am myself crafting a rom from the different guys release.
Right now hardcore devs (meaning doing that full time) are on cm14.1 port, which is already running but having some issues.
CM 13 is mostly stable, in the coming weeks you should have some even better releases coming out.

If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Good to see Asus is showing commitment to this phone. Also great to see you guys are embracing the aftermarket ROM community. More vendors need to be supportive like this.
We love the enthusiast community - you guys are the ones that like to tinker and have contributed to our growth over the years when we were just a motherboard vendor. I bet many of you still have fond memories of building PCs with our components before tinkering with phones .

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!
We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.
I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all
Do you know when we can expect a ROM based on Android O?
Can't say for sure. May never see an official release from Nextbit/Razer, but I'm sure custom rom devs will release it when it's ready.

Didn't Nextbit or Razer hire the devs from Paranoid Android? If they are working on the Robin ROM, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we'll get Oreo. However Razer announced a gaming phone a while ago, so there is no way to tell.

Except those are all fake. The LOS maintainers won't actually know if a device will support LOS 15 until they actually try porting it in the first place. As of now, they haven't tried for the Nextbit Robin yet, so we don't know if the Robin could actually get LOS 15 yet.
If you wanna keep tabs on what devices are currently being worked on, go to https://review.lineageos.org/#/q/statuspen and look for anything being commited to the lineageos-15.0 branch for android_device_nextbit_ether.
Software updates till February as they say on Twitter. Apart from nextbits cloud framework the OS is pretty much stock AOSP and it seems to me they're really good with releasing kernel source and providing updates almost every three months.
Robin, on N, is a mess. If it does eventually get O, it will be a while. We cannot upgrade it to O until we fix out the bugs we have on N first.
What are the bugs on N? I'm thinking about buying one. Is it worth it?

Doesn't make a difference, the code base is a mess. If your buying for a Dev device, dont. Even the top lineage Devs are struggling to make it as stable as it is (and it's not very stable, messy as hell!) As an every day device it's ok but there are better phones now a days in the price range, and support is basically dead for robin now.

Development is not dead at all. Have you seen Gerrit for many of the ROMs??? The CarbonROM Dev already has pushes to Gerrit for O. Lineage still gets device specific changes. ParanoidAndroid has a private kernel source for ether so their working on it behind the scenes. AICP and many other ROMs use the Lineage kernel, so there aren't many differences to those that use that kernel. O development is still ongoing, and this device is still great for the price. The ROMs at the moment, are very stable in my opinion.

I know, I'm the AICP maintainer for ether lol... And discuss with the official lineage maintainers for ether daily ..
I meant official development, btw, meaning a lot of the bugs won't be fixed because we need official updates to be able to fix them.
O development for lineage ether hasn't even begun yet, N bugs need to be fixed before O begins, and that will take awhile.

My apologies if I seemed aggressive. Official development seems to be like any other manufacturer, however, as we all know, software support is ending soon. I've been following Gerrit and have noticed the ongoing development by our developers (including you). IIRC camera was borked on one of the nightlies, but was immediately fixed. IMO, we are now depending on development from our ether devs rather than official support since Nextbit have been ghosting for the past few months.

Keep in mind what DarkExistence said, and realize the Robin's closest equivalent is a Nexus 5. If you can get better & newer hardware for a little more money, do so. I got mine as an "emergency" replacement when I was short on funds a few months ago. I lucked into an eBay sale & discount code which brought the phone to about 100.00. I'm happy with it, but I wish Razer would have made good sources available & gave full permission for them to be hosted elsewhere. So the devs didn't get so frustrated with what should be a decent phone to run custom ROMs on.

Yes, for $130 it's worth buying. The bugs on android N are not nearly as bad as what some claim them to be.
Here's as list of what I can recall:
1. Enhance colors distorts colors (so turn it off)
2. Screen static displays when unlocking phone for 1/10th of a second with some roms
3. You can hear The Speakers turn off after sound has stopped playing if You listen closely
4. Headphones with a mic sometimes cut out and play through internal Speakers although there is as work around for this
5. Audio fx does not work
Other than any of those there is not much i can personally complain about and I own 2 robins. About to get a moto g4 plus because it's time for something that has a larger XDA fourm and something that has been confirmed to get android O (wich nextbit has yet to announce a decision to besides "we have been discussing it").
If I were You and my budget was under $200 i'd get The robin.
If You can spend $225 get The g4 plus without a doubt. Hope this helps

Not sure what you mean... It's pretty good support here.
Sell and get a OnePlus or something more mainstream if you don't like it.
Or the tools are available for you to build your own ROMs.
XDA is here for sharing work.
You also could have checked here before buying.
No one is entitled to third party software support and we are lucky to have so many devs working on the device.
As it gets cheaper more devs will buy as well. Mi 6 is good hardware but devs can't own every device at release price.

Not sure I changed a theme and was not able to change back to default. I posted on MIUI's forum and asked for help but only one reply which didn't helped. Other questions went unanswered too. But haven't tried on xda though. I didn't liked the fact that camera api2 is not enabled by xiaomi and you know what? I learned from MIUI forum that our notification LED is RGB but is limited to white color only by xiaomi.
Oneplus is not available in my country and even if Xiaomi gets any defect, no one is gonna repair because its fairly new here and almost everyone sees my phone doesn't know Xiaomi exists. Btw once I tried to build ROM when I had Mediatek phone and oh boi, it took forever for small modifications, learning will take long time and I don't have time for it, so no I will depend on others haha. And I hope as it gets older, more ROMs will be available, hope more like stock with less bugs, stock always have more customization from xposed.

There are no other custom ROMs yet, but there are several factors that make me believe that there will soon be good support for this device.
First off, xiaomi most of the time doesn't wait long these days before revealing their kernel source.
Furthermore this device is a typical mid-ranger that in a way scratches the upper range, so it is predestined to make people curious about its potential and is very affordable at the same time.
We don't have cristal balls for these questions, but for me the odds are good - otherwise I wouldn't have bought this phone myself ; )
I think this device has better chance to get custom ROMs than 5G version, because it has same chipset like Redmi Note 10 Pro or Poco X3 NFC. These devices already have custom ROMs, so it is possible to make custom ROM with the help of their device trees. I will maybe buy this phone and attempt to do it once I have more free time, however I would be glad if more experienced developer did it
I'm really hoping for PixelPlusUI or Pixel Experience on this. would be perfect.
I am not at all confident for this device, about custom roms.
RN 10 Pro came out not even a month earlier, and you can already find twrp plus many roms in development.
For Mi 11 Lite nothing yet...and I don't think it's much harder to mod.
It is a device born unlucky in my opinion, they have produced few and sells little, and will have little or zero community.
I'll wait another month, and if nothing comes out I'll sell it.
It's a pity, because i really love form factor and weight, and is fast and reliable. But for me modding is essential, i dont like miui.

Can somebody tell something about his/her experience with MIUI Mix ROM? Especially in comparison with the xiaomi.eu ROM? Both information about the stable as the weekly ROM are welcome.
Kind regards,

I just dirty flashed MMX v21.6.23 directly over miui.eu ROM v21.6.23 without wiping anything (except Dalvik) and it works perfectly.
It looks extremely similar for me, just maybe more smoothly (Placebo effect?)
Let me check power consumption tonight and report.

Hi. although they are Devices different and Processors different.
I hope this personall opinion can help you understand some points to be considered, especially the use of battery by rom mix vs. rom me
SOT should be about the same, however standby is much better.
Definitely a smoother experience versus Xiaomi.EU and lots of useless tracking bloat removed.
Giving credit to where it's due, still Xaiomi.EU's work with Team MMX optimizations.
Thank you all so far for the great comments!
As promised, I measured the standby power consumption during last night (see attached), and indeed it was much better (mostly 0.12%/h) than the previous night with miui.eu (see second attachment)
I hope it helps.
I wouldn't recommand this rom as it seems closed source and no info whatsoever on developers but a telegram channel. Could be spyware/backdoor in it. Or maybe I'm wrong. But I won't trust it.

OK but MIUI itself, while based on opensource Android but adding a lot of proprietary components, isn't really open source !
So obviously, MMX cannot be more open source than MIUI (Xiaomi) itself

I wouldn't recommand this rom as it seems closed source and no info whatsoever on developers but a telegram channel. Could be spyware/backdoor in it. Or maybe I'm wrong. But I won't trust it.

Been using MiuiMix on my Mi Pad 4 for 3 years, if they wanted to steal credentials they would have a long time ago.
My Mi Pad 4 was rooted and I purchased lots of apps from the play store with it, never got billed for something I did not purchase.

MMX got removed from so many Telegram devices channels for a reason. Do some research guys, it's not a safe rom.
Alright, I'll look into it.

I cannot find a lot about it, and MIUI Mix in general (which indeed maybe a red flag on itself). Could you maybe point us to your source?
MiuiMix posted their roms on XDA just like many other new custom developers in late 2017 to early 2018, this is the time I bought my Mi Pad 4 (unlocked from seller).
I've look deep into the files and services that runs on the rom from fresh install, seems to be no signs of spyware, but of course I'm no security expert (only took two courses in college).
My reasoning for them being kicked out of so many Telegram channels and disappearing from XDA would be their roms are not based on their own work and there's probably lots of backlash from the developers of Xiaomi.EU and the general custom rom community.
I'll say this though, I totally agree Xiaomi.EU is the safest bet to whomever wanting to run a custom rom based on MIUI given they debloat those Chinese tracker apps still left on Xiaomi.EU rom.
This is obviously one of the the reasons why like MiuiMix (it's very clean, Chinese tracker apps removed), but then again I might be dealing with a super sophisticated spyware app baked into the rom.
