I suffer from a timeout when I'm logged in. I have to login every 15 minutes or thereabouts. Doesn't seem like useful, not even performance-wise serverside, because users constantly having to log in take up way more resources than them all being logged in doing nothing.

Seriously, at least make it optional or waaaay longer. Like a day or something.

There is no timeout that I've ever seen? As long I as don't clear my cookies, I never need to login.
Are you sure cookies aren't clearing, or are you not accepting cookies?

Awesome! But the thread is good, could help others who have the same issue. :good:
Not solved !
Unfortunately; I take it all back, it's STILL timing out!
It's not a cookie issue. There's no other website that has this problem for me or my browser (Mozilla Firefox), so it must be server-side.

The whitelist may not be working?
For kicks and giggles, have you temporarily tried a different browser. Just to compare?
Yes, I tried with plain vanilla chrome. It's not the cookies..
Let's see if anyone has an idea then. But XDA does not have timeouts that I'm aware of, so the issue may be somewhere at your end, but we can ask,

Logging out after 15 minutes is definitely a cookie issue. If you don't use cookies (ie, "Remember me!") then you'll be logged out after 15 minutes.

So most of the time, when I try to log in, I get the "Thank you for logging in Lint6" and redirect page. But when it redirects..I'm not logged in. It takes me a few times to get in. I've cleared cookies from my browser and everything but it still does it. Its been happening for a few weeks now so its not related to the forums being down yesterday

I see this reported occassionally. It seems you tried the correct things, clearing cookies, history etc. It's just possible it can happen at heavy server load times, but with it happening so often to you, I think it might be worth trying a different browser.

Ok its been pointed out that "solution" is a poor choice of words but rather I have pinpointed the culprit mmaking android os drain the battery. I would like to first start off by saying that the reasn I chose to make a new thread was because the "Android OS" consuming battery thread is pretty much all over the place. Its not very informative if this bug is plaguing your battery life. Way too much random talk about wifi and other things. I dont think I saw one mention of adb or a logcat in that thread. No one is really doing any testing and sharing information so that we can get to the bottom of this. I would prefer if this thread was more informative where you posted what you did and what the result was. Mods if you feel as if my post should be in that thread then so be it. Enough with my rant here goes.
The problem I have found is that something in the google account is making the suspend function go bonkers. When the phone attempts to sleep it ends up spiking the cpu pretty hard for a good amount of time too. This is why some of us are not getting the phenominal battery life others are boasting about. The temporary solution I have found is to do a reset and not put any google account information in. This is why when some people have reported they did a reset and they still have the problem that its still there. Dont use your gmail. I know I know... the solution kind of sucks but its temporary until a real fix can be pin pointed. I am trying to get to the bottom of this as fast as I can. Thanks to Sprints new return policy I would like to do so as fast as possible. I have tested this on 3 phones so far. On all of them I did a reset, and then only installed the amazon appstore and watchdog. The amazon appstore was so that I could get watchdog. No cpu spikes alerted by watchdog on any of the 3 phones for the whole day. At the end of the day I added the gmail account that the user had been using to one of the phones and watchdog began to alert shortly after the screen timeout kicked in when the phone was attempting to sleep. Reset the phone again without adding a gmail account and the problem was gone again. Yesterday I began gradually installing other apps that I use day to day to continue my testing such as maildroid, twitter, etc. I got through the whole day on 1 charge with no problems. I cant remember how long I was on wifi but lets just estimate it was between 4-6 hours. This is with two accounts pushing to maildroid using IMAP idle so it doesnt have to poll a server which is better on battery. The official twitter application also uses push. I also have groupme installed which I use for my business to communicate with team members throughout the day. It is a chat application and it also uses push to send messages. Also I have left all the stock widgets in tact during this whole period of testing. The weather widget is set to refresh at 4 hours i think and the news widget is on manual refresh.
My next steps are trying to figure out why certain gmail accounts making suspend peg the cpu so hard. Today I plan on using one of my backup gmail accounts that doesnt have any contacts or apps purchased. I will be posting my findings later. I do apoligize for being so long winded but I hope this post helps someone out there and helps the community get to the bottom of this bug. Thanks for your time!
You call that a solution? Not put any Google Account information in? Thanks!
/sarcasm
I have a better solution. Don't turn the phone on! I haven't turned my phone on in 3 days and my battery is still fully charged! It's amazing!

Lol glad to see my efforts are so well recieved... Ive pinpointed the problem. Maybe you can find the solution yourselves.
Ill admit the "solution" defeats the whole purpose of these phones however at least it kinda narrows down the problem and can possibly help work towards a solution.
Im not going to remove my google account but instead I mail turn off mail sync and contacts sync and see how that goes for a day.

As another poster said, no need troll. He pinpointed the problem for us. Thanks op.
You can set up the built-in email client to still sync your google email. You just will get your email through the email client rather than through the gmail app. You will also not be able to download apps, but you will at least be able to check your gmail.

Yeah I'm going to troll a thread like this everytime.
It's not a "solution" it's a "work around" A solution to a problem is not stop doing something that is supposed to work. It's fixing the problem so that everything works like it should.

I am far from being able to provide in depth troubleshooting, but if it helps anyone, here's my progress so far. Two things:
1. Before seeing this thread (without changing anything) I had the phone in airplane mode for about an hour in my pocket and when I checked the battery stats, for the entire time the phone was in airplane mode it was also awake. Screen off.
2. After reading this thread, instead of disabling the Google account, I just un-checked "sync" for everything except gmail in Accounts and Sync (so calendar, contacts, books, etc. doesn't sync unless I manually do it)
After about 2 hours with this setup, android OS battery usage has dropped way down.
Hope this helps someone!
Good grief, you people are so ungrateful it is amazing. The OP is not suggesting you will never be able to set up your Google account. He is trying to narrow down where the problem exists so effort can be focused there rather than other places mentioned like WiFi. This thread is for us to work together to find a solution.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else is getting this problem today or if it's just me.
I logged on this morning as I do everyday and when I tried replying to someone it told me I'm not logged in, so I typed in my details again and that same page continued to show until I shut my browser and opened another session. This let me log in but still when I try to reply to a post or even when I tried to view my control panel it logged me out and wouldn't allow me back in until I started a new browser session.
I've been monitoring it during my lunch time session and have had to close down and re-login multiple times but noticed also when looking through threads it was logging me out and in automatically from page to page.
I've tried both chrome and IE and both behave the same way. Thankfully I was able to post this so am hoping it stops doing it.
If it makes any difference I'm on the 2013 theme and I've never had this happen before today.
Thanks
I am using Firefox and I haven't seen that problem except at the very beginning of my time here last year, and then just a few times until it cleared up.

It seems when I have the "Remember me" box unchecked the problem arises but since ticking the box it isn't happening. I don't generally have remember me ticked while on work PC's but as said never happened before so hopefully just a glitch on my side.
Thanks
I am getting it too on my work PC (who knows what browser they use, it so filtered) but I also got that on my home PC (Firefox).
Frankly, it is making it unusable for me atm b/c I have to do all the steps you said above just to post. If I want to post multiple times in different threads, it can take more time to post the message than it did to type it. I've resorted to typing the message, then copying it and hitting post just to be kicked out, re-log in and clear caches/cookies and paste and post. It is a real PITA.
I've tried on 2010, 2013b and 2013b1024 just in case it was a theming issue. Am not having that problem on any other forums or outside internet sites that I have logged into but I have noticed it over the past two days, as well.

Did you try ticking "Remember me" when logging in as sorted it for me, I just had to remember to log out when I finished.
Well, let's see here.
Edit: No dice. Logged me out again. Tried it with Remember Me ticked and unticked.
Edit2: In fact, I just went to my tablet forums and it showed me as logged out. Then I clicked the XDA in the top corner to come back to this thread and it shows me as logged in. Must be ghosts in the machine.
Edit3: Now it is showing me as logged in right now, so I tried to go to the RC forums and got denied. Pulled up my phone forums in the Find Your Device (because I thought it might be something to do with my favorites/bookmarks) and it shows me as logged off. If I open the About XDA-Developers page, I am logged in.
Edit4: Sorry about these edits. I am only logged into THIS THREAD and not About XDA-Developers. I just got a PM and can't read it b/c it logs me out.
I've been experiencing this since Tuesday morning. Both in Chrome and Firefox. I've changed nothing and log in the same way as always. Happens when I try to reply and view my subscriptions. Tapatalk is the only way I can view and reply to anything right now.
Edit - this is happening both at home and work.

This is happening to me too. I can get on once in every 100 attempts. I have tried everything, including changing browser, ip, computer, switching to xda 2010 and back, and ticking the remember me.
It's been happening to me for the last few days, I just ticked remember me, now I'm in for once!
The solution for this is to click the "Remember me" box when logging in. This is an issue that seems to have arisen due to a change in infrastructure on our end (I believe). It doesn't seem to impact all accounts however, just some of them.
If anyone has this issue after checking the "Remember me" box, please let me know.

Yes happening to me. If I clean everything in history of my browser, any browser, it logs me once. Immediately like I would post now it would log me out. It is happening in all the browsers with my account.
After getting logged out. When I again try to login, it would show a popup showing you are being logged in as nagpalkapil but would again not log e in and come out until I clean everything from history again including cookies etc. Has started happening for just last two days and was perfect before. Please help urgently on it.
For the past few months XDA has started making me login every single time I visit the site. This is the case on multiple computers, including a new one purchased 3 days ago. I've tried various browsers and set every one of them to "remember password". Yet, no matter what computer I'm on or what browser I'm using I have to manually login each time.
I looked in settings and can't find any check box that might resolve this. At this point I don't know what to do and am looking for pointers. Any ideas?
But its working fine for me in Home & office.

Look at the bottom of the page. What theme is it using. I have this issue as well if I use any theme other then 2010
Works fine for me on Chrome, but not Firefox.
I have the same issue. Using Firefox (currently 20, but the problem was also with a few older versions) on Fedora Linux.
Using cookie manager, I see that the cookie for forum.xda-developers.com named "xdaloggedin" is set to expire In a short time (for example, currently it is set to expire on 2013/04/25:00:18:37.
Same symptoms here. Using Firefox 19. "xdaloggedin" cookie set to expire in 13 minutes, 26 seconds and counting...
Same issue here
Yesterday I was prompted to login to XDA twice. This morning I wasn't. There doesn't seem to be any consistency: yesterday it seems to have forgotten about me within an hour or so, yet it "remembered" me overnight...
Is there a contact we should be reporting this to, rather than mumping about it on a thread?
I'm going to flag an admin as I'm facing the same issue with Firefox
I've tried to recreate this (on Chrome/Firefox) but wasn't able to recreate any problem.
Make sure to check off the "Remember me" - this sets a cookie which should remember you after you close and reopen the browser. Otherwise you may be "logged out" after 15 minutes or when you close the browser, which is the session length.
Are you guys running any plugins that might be impacting this?

Maybe try deleting all your xda cookies and then logging in again. Could be a case of file corruption.

It's really annoying I've had this before. What I did I'd clear data cache in the messages app restart phone then do same again delete data cache then open messages app and try again. If that fails then you have to turn chat off for 7 days don't try turning chat on within the 7 days otherwise it resets to 7 days again. It's a right pain in the but.
I wish I had a answer for you. I was having the same issue on stock, switching to global, switching to eu, etc. Just a couple nights ago I installed magisk and no modules and left my phone alone for a bit (maybe a hour?), When I picked it back up I had 10 encrypted messages I couldn't read come in from a friend that must have came in over the past couple weeks. It was just random.

I tried Dale's suggestion, clearing data and cache and rebooting the phone. After a minute it popped up the message "enabling chat features, we'll let you know when it's ready." Checked the settings 15 minutes later, and it said "Trying to verify..." STILL but the button to manually verify was usable.
This sucks.
This had happened to me ever since I got the phone and since my carrier is Verizon, It didn't work right out the gate and tried so many different solutions.
then I read that it could still be linked to your old phone so i put my sim card back and then turned off features and then popped it back to the OP and then just left the messages app run in the background and then it suddenly said chat features enabled.
I don't know if this will help you but it worked for mine.

I've had multiple issues with apps not sending OTP codes or being able to log in completely, and I even think I've had the same issue you are having when I had "dns.adguard.com" set as my private dns setting. Also, if you use AdAway, that could cause the issue. For some reason I have to disable AdAway to use the Amazon app. Weird.

Oh yep, in fact I had another thread about that. Turns out the new AdAway seems to inadvertently block a lot of things. Try adding "*amazon*" (without quotation marks) to the whitelist. Thanks for the Amazon tip! I was trying to figure it out for the longest time. Even tried the hard way of adding it a long time ago. Just got used to disabling it to use the app or using Amazon through a browser.
It always takes a minute for my chat features to be enabled. Whenever I get a new phone, I always get the message saying "chat features are unavailable for this device" then after a few hours/days, the pop up says that they're ready. I think I leave Messages open in the background. Never had to disable it on the previous device. T-Mobile user here.

Sure thing, glad I could help. If anything, though, you should thank @terlynn4 for that whitelisting suggestion.
In my case this has been going on for a good few days. I've done websearches and researched all the possible causes and solutions I could find, but nothing has worked in my case. Yet. I think the main issue is that I'm not getting the authorization code that Google sends via a short-code service text or whatever those are called.

Usually when I don't receive the code, it's because AdAway or private DNS settings as stated before. But since you're not using any of those, I'm not sure what else would be preventing from sending the code. Is there any way you can use the Messages for Web feature, bring up your messages on PC, send the code that way and see if it comes up on the web?
I had the exact same issue as you, the issue was that Verizon still had my old phone associated with my account. Verizon support asked my for my iccid (16 digit number physically printed on the sim card), and after they associated it with my new phone I received the backlog of all the sms from short codes that I had missed and rcs verified after 15 minutes and a reboot.

I could give that a try, sure. I do have access to a PC/web browser.

Let me know if it works for you. Sounds ridiculous, but it might actually work.

I don't think it did. Or would. Still no message on either end. Something isn't allowing it to be sent in the first place, it seems.

I had the exact same issue on verizon, but with a globel version. Wouldnt recognize the phone at all. After calling, they pushed me to tech support. Because the phone isnt in their system, the guy had to take an IMEI from another CDMA-Less phone, and enable the CDMA-Less feature. Then he put my IMEI back. Rebooted, and got 2 days worth of texts, and chat features enabled instantly.
The guy said there's a chance that "cleaners" will comb through accounts and reset it, but if it happens, I just have to do the same thing again.
