Whats the best default Equilzer settings for Beats solo2 headphones? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

I listen to a variety of music and it seems no matter what setting I try the sound quality isnt as good as it could be with my beats solo 2 headset. Ive sent the headset in at first thinking it might be the problem but it wasnt. I primarily use google play and power amp. Is there an app or equlizer setting that is balanced for a variety of music that I should use?

[Q] Dr Dre, Klipsch, Bose Headsets?

Anyone tried Klipsch Image S4i, Bose - MIE2 mobile headset, or Beats By Dr. Dre - Monster Solo High-Definition Over-the-Ear Headphones with ControlTalk? (I got the titles off Best Buy). I hear a lot of the more expensive headsets have trouble with phones that are not apple brand. Anyone own any of these and use it with the vibrant? I am running latest axura rom with voodoo enabled, if that matters.
Can anyone skim through the best buy online store and tell me what are the some of the best headphones they carry (preferably with mic but without mic is fine too)? thanks
Best earbuds imo:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NABXXE/ref=twister_dp_update?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are on a severe discount now too. As for where it's coming from, I'm an audiophile and did my research on ear canals when I was looking for a pair for my Vibrant. The microphone also works perfect with the phone and can control music players just fine.
This set is a tad bass-heavy, just warning ya. It can handle ANY volume you throw at it too.

hmmm those look really good, I really want to get something from best buy though because I can get employee discount, if none of the best buy ones work maybe i'll get that
I own the Beats by Dre Solo HDs and use them with my Vibrant. The audio is perfect, but I haven't been able to get the Control Talk to work (although I haven't tested them yet with Nero). I definitely recommend them!

If you think the beat by dre are perfect you have alot to learn about audio all they are are heavy bass and crappy mids and highs, people only buy bose and dre **** just because media tells them too when theya re really some of the ****tiest things you can get
and vmoda is tits.
Klipsch s4i is the best out of all in the OP. Etymotic, shure, and ultimate ears also make good headsets in the same price range, not sure if BB carries any of them though. Beats and bose are all marketing, you'll find little in the way of actual sound quality.
Personally I am using ultimate ears triple fi 10s with my vibrant to listen to music, and they are very revealing-the vibrant is not a very good source in this regard. I highly prefer a dedicated DAP with a decent internal amp for optimum sound quality. These are probably out of your price range, though.

If you haven't heard the new MIE2 you shouldn't make a generalization about it. I hope those S4i's last longer than they have for others.
Some Bose are good but all of them way too overpriced for the quality.
Dr. Dre is marketing mostly though, don't get that if you're looking for actual sound quality. If you're looking for bling that looks nice in your ears, get them.
heygrl does the mie2's mic work with vibrant? anyone know if the s4i's mic works with vibrant?

I read some of the reviews and quite a few say they have poor build quality, is this true? one of the reviews said that the manufacturer wouldn't honor the warranty because it was purchased from an Amazon reseller.
anyone with the beats by dre, either solo or tours...do they come with a regular cord and then the one with the control talk? im thinking i can use my sony mw600 bluetooth with the beats without the control talk cord.
thanks.
The earphones that come with the vibrant aren't bad at all for freebies. I'd rather listen to these than the beats or the bose headphones. That said, I don't typically use my vibrant to listen to music with headphones, if listen with headphones i have a dac hooked upto my pc that goes to a hornet headphone amp and a pair of hd650 sen's.
Since I drive to work and don't take public transportation, I find that I rarely am in a position to consume media from my phone in that manner.
I do like the shure se series, you should look into them and see if they're right for you.
I have a pair of klipsch (forgot the model), the sound quality is great. Highs and lows are very clear.

HTC One X Included Earphones and Beats situation

Ok so today i put my One X, Sensation XL, iPod and Sensation classic to music test
HTC didn't not really lie when they said now Beats is included in software and let me explain why
If you use the iPod earphones, standard old HTC earphones and urBeats with the Sensation XL, you find the best audio is coming from urBeats, second place goes to the iPod earphones and finally ofcourse the old messy HTC earphones
but then i expected the included One X to do badly on the One X, turns out urBeats is doing very badly even if you choose urBeats profile, the included One X headset actually comes best a bit better or equal to the iPod earphones, which are not bad to begin with, certainly miles ahead of the old HTC stuff, the One X earphones does best with urBeat profile very similar to the quality of urBeats on XL, which are for some reason rendered useless on the X
of course this is all subjective and depends on my audio preference
but my point is, it seems the Sensation XL was simply detecting the urBeats set and enabling the beats improved profile, has nothing to do with the quality of urBeats itself
on the One X those profiles are open for you to choose from and the include inbox earsets is so incredibly close to the iPod ones, not a bad deal if you ask me!
The included beats profiles sound really good and we have tons of profiles to choose based on our test and they work globally too, much better beats/audio than the sensation XL!
I find the audio quality far better on the one X stock headphones on my one X compared to the endymion Rom (sensation xl) for my desire S using the same phones.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
to be honest, the earphones are good and i wouldt have mind them if they were in-ear and had music control instead of pause play function only..
been using in-ears for far to long to go back to non in-ear earphones..
I have been using klipsch s4i and Bose Mie2i with my phone and the output was great compared to the output with my iPod touch. Previously with my DesireHD there is no comparison of the sound quality. Thanks to the beats audio.

Indeed, the new earphones from the One X are not bad and way better than the standard HTC earphones from earlier phones. But I still have the Beats in-ear headset from my Sensation XE and that sounds way better than the ones out of the box.
Hi, did anyone tried to use some high-end in-ear earphones? Like Sennheiser.
I have and the sound is brilliant, bassy and crisp
tested my klipsch s4i vs the included urBeats by Monster earphones. (beats headset is included @ vodafone one series devices)
the beats do have a better bass but the s4i sounds more natural, the midrange is a lot clearer.
sadly the cable remote of the s4i won't work completly, pause and play is possible, but no track jumping.
anyways, i will he selling my beats headset, the s4i are the better earphones for me, much lighter, much more confortable and i think the better sound
(so if you want just testet urbeats... pm me, they are like new)

As far as I can see there is just one Beats profile and option to choose headset. All other profiles are regular profiles.
At first, changing these profiles didn't do anything to me. Then I found out that PowerAMP is going around all those profiles, it's an option: Audio Engine > Advanced Tweaks > Direct Volume Control. It's enabled by default and for me it is better that the stock/beats profiles. I can also further tweak equalizer to my liking/headphones I'm using, to get more/less bass.
Nothing wrong with beats. Enabling it sounds like enabling that PowerAMP option + adding some bass boost.

Yes, that's the "choose headset" option I mentioned too.
I wonder, why is audio quality so bad when beats if off or when DVC is off in PowerAMP? The difference is so easy to notice.
I'm using sennheiser headphones with poweramp. Sounds great but can't see the Beats button in power amp... Just SRS. In any case, it still sounds great with SRS but anyone else have this issue with poweramp build 488?

I don't think there is Beats button in PowerAMP? I think you need to go into Settings > Sound and enable Beats there, then disable DVC in PowerAMP. As long as DVC is enabled, PowerAMP has direct control over audio hardware.
Now I know many people dislike beats headphones and think there not good for audio quality (which I agree on for all the beats headphones EXCEPT the pros) but yer Ive had solos studios and now pros and I gotta say man the sound from the pros with this phone is amazing, blows my sensation out the water. My biggest complain about beats in general is that its very overpriced, fooling people into thinking they are getting more than they are. But I can see it's attractive offer to many people especially when they have beats profiles in the phones, instead of profiles for Shures, Sennheisers, Sony and all other popular ones. And I can see the beats profile does a good job when enabled, no argue here, but I was always getting the same from PowerAMP and it's DVC.

I'm no audio geek, but I was impressed with the sound quality of the One X and standard HTC headphones. Better than listening to my iPod

Sound quality is lacking

I have a pair of basshead headphones and was trying to listen to music, but even turning up the media volume all the way to the end the sound quality was mediocre. Couldn't hear barely any mids or highs and the bass wasn't being driven enough. Only tested on google music -- don't want to have to buy a 3rd party music player just to boost the sound (poweramp, voodoo).
Reason its a little bit of a disappointment is when you listen to a lot of music and enjoy quality sound, spending nearly $700 on a phone you expect it to be able to perform sound quality wise.
What are your guys thoughts on sound quality? I want to play most of my music through google music and if I'm out where I don't want to be streaming, just load playlists in the default music player.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Try to go to menu -> audio enhancements. There you can find in the top-left corner a menu to choose which headphone you have. Default it will be on "others" (at least I think it's called others, it's called overig in Dutch), but if you select beats urBeats or beats tour, depending on which ROM/version you are on, it sounds much better. I agree, it sounds like crap default . The beats selection WILL work on other headphones. I use it on both my Sony over-ear and my Shure in-ear.

Not being an Arsehole, but do you have decent Earphones/Headphones?
My Marley Zions I use to listen to music on my One X and I usually have to listen to it with the volume at like 70% to prevent my head rattling from the Sound/Bass (May be a slight exaggerateion) I'm actually very impressed with the One X sound quality

Ah, yeah of course, the stock headphones are a joke, kind of insulting HTC even included them in the Box.
I paid quite a bit for my Earphones as I love my music, and I've used them on many Phones and I cannot fault the One X audio quality
I have worked in recording studios most of my life and can honestly say that Beats headphones are just a gimmick. If music was intended to sound this way what a shallow experience it would be. If you buy a £30 set of Sennheiser PX100 II's they will out perform beats by a mile and thats on, no enhancer and headphones other under settings. Go into any hifi shop and give them an audition.

Hi to all!
What do you think about the external speaker? To me, it's nearly 0 improvement from HTC Desire. More over, I think the Desire sounds louder (just for high frecuencies).
It's true that the mids frecuencies are clearer on the One X, but I expected more quality.
It sounds good on mine with no effects and sennheiser ie8. It's not cowon but beats Samsung. I think your problem is your headphones.
It is not just about how original it sounds compared to the source, it is also about the taste of the listener. End of debate.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Possibly the end of the debate, but the One X is biased completely towards beats, just look at the volumne difference. If you switch beats off the volumne drops by a huge amount, this is all to lure the listener into selecting the beats profile. what is needed is a graphic equaliser built into the player so the listener can adjust the sound for the best experience.
I have a pair of in-ear cx870, and Beats Audio with the urbeats profile is definitely the best to boost most music; otherwise, "no effects" works fine. However, even though I'm no audiophile, my SGS with Voodoo did sound better...
I'm no audiophile either, but the beats enhancer sounds great with my Audio Technica M50's.

Beats.....
The "Jack" on this phone is fine. I've tried several audiophile ear buds and headphones and find this phone with power amp to be pretty good. Music volume EQ is a decent app too if you want more bass and loudness.
Ditch the beats and get some vsonic or some klipsch and you'll see.

Guys, truth is the hardware isn't up to par on the audio side on this phone. That's been proven. I know that even without looking at the internals of this phone coming from another Android device.
However, the OP called himself an audiophile, but had a pair of Beats... Whatever, but he is correct. I wouldn't say "sucks", but not as good as it should have been.

Download Neutron Music Player. It's worth paying for!! Its sounds much better than power amp(my old player); its louder, offers better headroom/snr ratio, direct hardware control, and doesn't lose any clarity, when using EQ. Also, Check to see what setting your music is encoded at. 320kbps for MP3 is the highest setting, but I go with Flac. If you know the basics of setting up an EQ and want great sounding audio, then download neutron! It actually gives an accurate representation of the music, as opposed to most mods which are meant to "Enhance" your listening experience, but don't depict the true sound of the recorded audio. Whenever I mix down a new recording, I trust Neutron with my MDR's, SE215's, and grado's headphones for the true sound! For fun, I add about 3-5db around 40-50hz for some extra punch; especially when bumping some electronic or hip hop. Furthermore, I wouldnt recommend beats headphones. They're tuned strictly for hip hop and electronic music. They add all sorts of obnoxious EQing at 50-80HZ, 3khz, 5khz, 7khz, and 10khz, so they'll sound like garbage on any other genre of music. I attached a link of how sloppy the frequency response is on these so called, "Studio" headphones. If you're looking for a great headphone, check out head-fi.org. They offer reviews of over 266 headphone, arranged by price range. Let us know how you make out!

Ok so I'm like a huge audio head and I can't get over the fact on how weal the headphone jack is on android phones
Compared to (dare I say it?) Apple products, our headphones are super weak
Of course we have apps tweaks yadayada, but is there a Definite Solution to making the Music sound Stronger on this phone
I tried power amp and the beats on the market and it doesn't do that much tbh
Any suggestions on how to make music sound better

One of the biggest reasons I choose Android over Apple is for the audio. Although the volume of music on Apple products reach unbelievable heights, the sound quality itself is not any better than what most Androids have to offer, even on their stock music players. Furthermore, why would you even want to listen to your music at top volume on an iPhone? You'll be deaf within a minute.
Our Galaxy S3 has absolute trash for presets. Listen to every single preset. You'll find that most of them will raise the volume of vocals when there's no background bass, and the vocals volume will lower when the bass kicks in again. It's annoying, it sounds as of you're putting your head next to a speaker, and shaking it around so that the music gets a wavy effect. Thankfully, Samsung gave us a beautiful option at the bottom of the list of those poor excuses for presets, called "Custom." In it is a 7 band equalizer that's actually very damn decent.
The Beats by Dre, although frowned upon, is perfect for the equalizer on the S3. I myself, am a basshead. I love my music to have some rumble and thump to it. Just play around with the bands until you find the perfect eargasm type sound. What I love on the S3, is that the volume is quite loud. With most phones, equalizing audio sacrifices a lot of volume. With this phone, my equalizing will barely phase the volume of my music.
When I equalize, it'll go something like this: The lowest (first) band will be set the highest, giving the music that precious deep rumble, but adding punch as well. The second band is set significantly lower than the first in order to retain that punchy bass. This makes the vocals sound more shallow though, but I dont care too much because I hate flat bass. The third band effects both bass and vocals about equal, so I set it to about midway between what the first and second bands are set at. This gives the vocal a deeper touch, but doesn't take too much away from bass punch. The middle band is what mainly effects vocals. I set it one below the third, because setting it too high gives the vocals a bit of an airy or dry sound to it. For the fifth band, I put it one higher than the third. The last two band are set higher than every band except for the first one. It livens up the treble so that the instrumentals don't sound boring.
My equalizer preset is extremely coloured, but that's just how I like it to sound. It's almost a V shaped equalizer I guess. Big bass, recessed mids, and high treble. I have the V-Moda Crossfade LP's for my headphones.
I dunno, this post might not have been of much help, but I just felt as if I should offer my 2 cents.
For some reason having beats makes you a complete moron now a days ?The reason I have beats is beacuase one of my fav genres is hip hop, and when it comes down to it, beats sound decent when it comes to rap/hip hop you cant deny it. For every thing else yes they are trash so I use my M50s.

Beats are the "trend". Most audiophiles don't take them or anybody that uses them seriously.
I've owned a pair and can honestly say my daily use creative aurvana buds sound better than any beats I've tried. Hip hop is my music of choice.
The Yamaha eph-100's are great for hip hop too..
$150 can get you some iems that are twice as good for half the price of beats.

But he has the ATH-M50, which are seriously good headphones
I wasn't happy either with the S3 sound, having heard what a quality is, I bought the cheapest decent DAC - Fiio E7 and it sounds great with my M50's

iPod quality sound on Gnex?

Hi, I have beats headphones and an ipod touch, I also have a Gnex. When I listen to music on my ipod they music sounds great with no kind of audio eq or enhancements but on my gnex the sound is not even close, I have the beats + xlouder patch installed along with trickstermod volume boost and hq sound but I can't get the same sound using either awesome beats dsp or noozoxide. My question is, is there any way to change my settings to get it to sound exactly like the ipod? If it's not possible I understand but I thought I would ask here before I gave up hope and just deal with it. Thanks!
Not with software. GN has a ****ty chip and that's it.
It's really that ****ty? I never noticed a difference...

My friend I have the same problem.
The solution is the mp3 file quality.
I find that downloaded music is at 128 or 192 kbps and you want iTunes or Google play music quality at a higher bit rate like 320kbps. My best sounding files are the .m4a or the iTunes rip format.
Idk if converters work but find a good one because some convert too fast and ruin it so find the highest rated one.
[Edit] when you use iTunes to sync music, it converts it to the format for the iPod to play. Try using Google play music download thing (their iTunes) and sync your music through play so maybe they convert it. Because I drag and drop but noticed sync music sounds more premium on my beat tours.

1. Find songs in 320kbps quality.
2. Flash AC!D 7,and gnexus xlouder.
3. Use your goddamn Beats headphones.

can those be used together?
Listening to FLAC tracks would also help.

I have been using this for a few months and is by far the best of all the audio mods and enhancements I've tried. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes music sounds distorted or the bass is too low or high so a lot of the time I find myself changing settings after a new track comes on.

This. Flac files are big, but the sound quality is incredible. Ive got every U2 and Smashing Pumpkins song ever made in flac. Unbelievable

I also have Beats wireless headphone and I noticed that the sound quality is better when there is no equalizer (like Awesome beats and DSP) installed on the phone. I think that Beats headphones have built-in equalizer.

I just love that the Galaxy Nexus' audio output is way better than my ****ty iPod Touch 4th gen...
The iPod puts out very flat tones while the Galaxy Nexus puts out punchy tones making listening to music a joy instead of listening to the capital B BORING music output of an iPod.
Friends of mine constantly get amazed by the sound quality of the Gnex. It just has more bass and more intensity to the music.
I'd the Nexus supported USB DACs the ****ty audio chip would be a non-issue. But as everyone else said, lossless audio helps a lot. But if you need to go lossy for space, 320kbps constant or 160 to 190ish variable bitrates are what you want.

You at least need decent Music track Quality at least 192Kbps. Im always on 320Kpbs
I use PowerAmp and Sony High Bass Headphones and the quality is brilliant. I mean Beats (In my opinion) arent even that good. your absically paying for the name "Dr Dre".
But what ever floats your boat!?
No point in boosting audio volume if you have crappy audio quality?
good lucks

That's an euphemism for bad quality when it comes to headphones .
The key is using flac audio! Gotta use HQ stuff. I notice instantly how it sounds like garbage when I come across one of my old tracks that are only 192 or even lower. I use sennheiser HD650`s with an amp. I notice when quality drops. But if you keep it to HQ I truly feel the gnexus sounds great. Much better than my nexus 7.
Try the power amp music player in the play store(15 day trial) you can increase the base and treble. That alone made me buy it.
As most said, the file quality needs to be high. For MP3 it should be 320 KBS CBR or VBR at "0" setting which usually equates to files in the 200-300 KBS range. Personally, I think VBR0 format is better than 320 CBR. Most people cannot tell difference between FLAC and 320 CBR unless they have very acute hearing and very high-end headphones. Speaking of headphones, get a set with built-in amplifier if you truly want to hear music the way it should. Sadly most of those headphones are in the $200-$600 price range.
If you're using the Gal Nex with high bitrate files and high end headphones you'll notice it's hardware limitations but for most people the Gal Nex really isn't that bad.
beats headphones are such crap lol
Hint to OP: Just because it says "Beats by Dre" does not mean that they are any good.
Sure, they have a heavy bass, but at the price of almost drowning out hi and midrange sounds.
Try other headphones that are actually worth the money of the Beats, like stuff from AKG, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic or Shure.
Beats are merely a fashion-statement, and I have to admit that they look cool, but no self-respecting Producer or DJ would use them to listen to music on a daily basis.
