so i understand that this change only applies to hotspot tethering devices and not the smartphone data usage but what if you are using hotspot hack and running sprint hotspot app to tether?

If the hotspot app works like wifi tether in which it tries to mask your tether data as coming from your phone it will seem like to me that it won't be counted against you. But if the hotspot hack just allows you to use the app without paying for it then you may have the limits.

Naw, the way the stock wifi tether works is that it disconnects and connects to a different realm whenever you turn on the hotspot (so you have two different data meters). If you don't pay for the hotspot, you can't connect to the modem realm. However, the wifi tether just stays connected to the phone realm.
That said, they can tell if you are tethering, and if you data hog and tether you'll probably getting a polite letter from them telling you to pay or get cancelled and pay ETF
this have any effect on being rooted and using wifi tether app?
The concept is if you are not in the country, can or should able to use the wifi calling to avoid roaming charges.
Last night I was with the billing agent and tried to confirm that and was told that you will still be charged roaming charges even if you are on wifi calling. she said wifi calling is just to give you better coverage if you are on a low signal area.
Also when I am on airplane more and have the phone connected to wifi, still wifi calling not enable. how to fix that?
I use wifi calling internationally all the time. There is no additional roaming charge. That would be ridiculous.
They count as regular plan minutes just like any other call.
(Edit: I just verified this on my bill. The last time I had checked a year or so ago they had not even been counting as plan minuted.)
As far as the plane is concerned, it could either be that the port used for wifi calls is blocked or it could be that the latency just sucks too bad for wireless calling to work even if the overall bandwidth is decent.

do you have airplane mode off?
i see wifi calling icon when my airplane mode is off and connected to wifi. it means that my wifi calling is enable.

if that is a question then the answer is yes as long as the icon isnt red.
wan't the question, I was saying that if my airplane mode is off then I can see the blue wifi icon, so yes I do have the wifi enable on this phone.
The question was if you turn on the airplane mode, and connect your phone to wifi, do you get the wifi calling?
second question, would I be billed for regular calls if I am connect to wifi calling without airplane mode, wifi calling is in my plan and doesn't deduct minutes from my account.
I asked this from the billing rep and she said I will be charged roaming. I just want to confirm that.
Wi-fi calling WILL charge you roaming fees. Wi-fi calling uses your minutes, period. There are no plans that include wi-fi calling with free minutes. The app literally tells you Wi-Fi calling deducts from your monthly minutes when you first enable it. Also, I don't think wi-fi calling will work in airplane mode regardless of whether you're on an airplane or not. I think t-mobile needs you to be connected to cell service when wi-fi calling initializes so that they can verify that it's you and not someone spoofing your IMEI/SIM over wi-fi.
I just confirmed that wifi calls count as regular plan minutes by reviewing my bill. This was not the case the last time I checked a long while back, but it is now.

Would be interesting to test that to find out. Need to take out SIM, restart phone, turn it off, put SIM back in, go some place with wifi available but zero cell access, then turn phone on and see if wifi calling works or not.

It may be different on the newer plans.I'm on the value plan with 500 minutes and Wi-Fi calling is a free option. Minutes do not come out of my monthly bucket.instead, they are counted in the UMA/unlimited bucket which is their way of classifying the Wi-Fi calling minutes.
Perhaps if you are on an older grandfathered plan with no uma minutes then it deducts minutes from your monthly bucket.
This is great for me because at work i have fringe signal but can make a Wi-Fi signal with my Mac and have great coverage now with free unlimited minutes.
The note about it deducting minutes will probably depend on what plan you are on.

Everclear, I just got on the value plan about a month ago and my wifi calling shows up in unlimited as well. Doesn't count against my 1000 minutes.
You can't use wifi calling in airplane mode. You have to register with the cell network for wifi calling to work for w.e reason. Someday they may update their network but who knows.

Incorrect..
It doesn't have to register via cell Tower.
Go to in the middle of the desert where there are no signals and if you connect to wifi, it will bring your line back to life.
It should not be in the airplane mode though.
I have used the Wifi calling overseas many times where I had no tower recept in and it worked . make sure your data is off and calling preference to wifi only under settings.

I agree with the previous post. The cell phone does not have to see a cell tower to initiate wifi calling. All it is doing is sending the information (voice) through IP. I have successfully made calls back to US during international travel through wifi calling. I was also able to make phone call while on the flight via gogo in flight internet service when I was thousands of feet in the air. Although, I think now gogo blocks IP services. I have tried it recently, so wouldn't be able to confirm.

I guess we here on the west coast are lucky then, here Tmobile's wifi calling is 100% free and does not count against minutes.

Sorry dude but you are wrong.
On a postpaid plan WiFi calling WILL NOT use any of your minutes and WILL NOT charge you any fees. ( unless international then that's a whole other explanation )
On a prepaid plan Wifi calling WILL use your minutes .
I work for Tmobile and this is how it works. Bottom line.
I am currently in Europe. I have been using wifi calling and I can confirm that there is no roming charges. Also you do not need to be connected to a cell tower to make calls.

So with the new VZW unlimited plan they start throttling you with tethering data after 10GB of usage. If you are rooted and bypassing the tethering using the build.prop mod (or some other method) can they detect that you're actually tethering? In other words, I'm wondering if you're rooted, can you get around the 10GB data limit?
How do you get unlimited hotspot without root
Most methods i have heard about is toggling the apns and add dun and then restart but is there another way or is that it
If you're on the sprint network and still have the framily plan have you guys noticed your Hotspot is now working? I connected to usb tethering first then i enabled Hotspot and it's working. Turned it off and then on and it's still working. Was there a policy change or something?
Nevermind called sprint. They said they are giving their customers 20GB of free hotspot for 3 months due to the pandemic.
