---------- Post added at 06:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:17 PM ----------
If u r using stock recovery/custom then just put the zip any where in the SD card (where easy to find) Then go to recovery and install the zip file by selecting it

I have a dumb question about my phone CONSTANTLY bugging me about software update which id very much like to do however when I try to it reboots to my clockworkmod recovery instead of samsung. My question is where would the s3 store this downloaded firmware so I can manually tell clockworkmod where to go?
Thanks!
it's in /cache/fota it's a cfg file. rename it to update.zip and copy it to your sdcard.

It downloads it as update.zip without me having to rename but when I move it and try to install with clockworkmod it fails out
It requires stock recovery but someone made a flashable zip in development section.
Hey guys, thanks for taking time to help me out with my problem. I've done searches to try and fix the problem before coming here, and it is for that reason that I am posting here now.
Recently, my internal storage has been completely inaccessible within TWRP. When I'm on my ROM, I can see internal storage, and that's where the kernel that I downloaded is. I can go through ES File Explorer and see all of these files. But if I go into TWRP, the only two folders i see in sdcard are morphology and TWRP, neither of which contain any of my sdcard's contents. This is preventing me from flashing.. well.. anything.
Completely unrelated, but ever since I've had this phone and have used TWRP I haven't been able to mount storage whatsoever. I also recently had a problem with my SDCARD which in the rom would unexpectedly disconnect and this was causing battery drain.
EDIT: Using clockworkmod fixed this issue.
Re: TWRP and Internal Storage
This is exactly what's happening to me right now. I just move the download or whatever file it is to my external sd and then it shows up there. But I think it's a bug in TWRP it's very annoying..

Do you know if clockwork mod fixes that? If so, where can I find the latest version of that?
Re: TWRP and Internal Storage
I think its cuz you have a folder on your intenernal sd card called "0" ( without quotes) and that's where your downloads are being downloaded to and if thats the case twrp dont look in that folder for installing stuff. So just move what you download out of the 0 folder (using my files or root explorer if u have it) to the download folder on root of internal sdcard or ext sdcard n reboot into recovery and it should show up. I think thats whats wrong. If not im sure someone will correct me.
Edit. I guess it can see n the 0 folder. So you might look in there to see if that where the download is at.

Actually it seems to be the opposite. I checked my "0" folder in ES File Explorer and that contains morphology and TWRP, which are the exact files TWRP sees in sdcard. But in the actual sdcard folder all of my files are there.
If I just put the recovery image in a zip file and rename it to a tar will it work for flashing in odin?

has anybody in the uk had the ota update for kitkat yet, i tried installing it through the local update method but i'm having problems so it looks as though i might have to wait for the ota update. funnily enough i had the same issue with the b125 upgrade as well and had to wait for the ota for that as well
It installed on my stock UK P6 using the local update method.
I did install B132 first, again using the local method. (Extract file from zip, copy dload folder to sdcard, open update app and perform update from there)

Here's the reason:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip/external??
Error flashing zip ' /external_sd/dload/B510.zip'
FAILED
Anyone had this issue ?
I'v tried all the options what are around the web.
Any other suggestions?
You can't flash official rom in zip file.Unpack zip, folder dload copy to ext. card and than flash rom with stock recovery.

I have used both, and funny it is, both recoverys show the same error. I just flashed TWRP and tought it might give me a better answer.
Also i tried trough Huaweis suite and it tells me an error like this"Unable to unzip zip" on every firmware i try.

Now i have even a better error.
file_getprop:failed to stat "/system/build.prop":No such file or directory
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
It seems like you've put the zip file directly into your SD card, you have to extract the folder named "dload" and then put it in the root directory of the SD card.

Where in your SD card are you putting the dload folder with the update.app file?
So you have to rename B510.zip to update.zip and then put the zip onto your sd card in a folder called dload, after that just use local update or force update via the three button method.

I'm no expert, but I think he has to unpack the update.app file, put it inside a folder named "dload" and then move that folder into the root directory of the SD card. I don't think the system can read the zip file directly.

Normally this would be right but it's an OTA update so it has to be a zip.
