How to temporarily disable capacitive/hardware/navigation buttons? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

As the title has suggested, I want to find a way to temporarily disable the hardware buttons during gaming. It is a really painful experience as I always hit those buttons. Is the any way through xposed or something like the miui hardware buttons toggle to temporarily disable those buttons?

i know what you mean, would be nice but i think the only way is via the settings toggle...

Sorry, there isn't. Android doesn't allow this, I think not even on custom ROMs.

[Q] Disable capacitive buttons?

I'm running AOKP, and I can enable the menu bar like a Nexus. And I can disable the back lighting for the capacitive keys, but I can't figure out how to completely disable the capacitive keys. So it's still subject to accidental key presses, which is annoying.
I've read about some hack for the S3 to disable the capacitive keys, but have found no fix for the s4. Anyone have any info on this?

Aokp should have a settings menu for hardware keys where you can reassign the functions of the capacitive buttons to anything you want. Including nothing.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.

That would certainly do the trick, but I am unable to find it. There is a place to full customize the menu bar with what buttons you want and what they do, but not the built in capacitive buttons.

I'm using SlimBean rom so I can't check the menu set up on AOKP easily.
But in SlimBean this feature is under Navigation -> Hardware Keys
I cna' verify that AOKP has this feature.
I know it exists in Carbon and Slim ROM
If AOKP doesn't have it and thsi is a must have feature for you, give Slim or Carbon a shot. If you use regular Phone UI instead of Tablet or Phablet UI that is available in AOKP you will find that Carbon are Slim are VERY similar as far as available features adn tweaks.
Yeah, doesn't look like it exists on AOKP. It's not a deal breaker for me, but but if Slim and Carbon have the feature, I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the info!

Navigation keys when keyboard is enabled

Is there a way to disable the soft keys when the keyboard is in use ? External desktop does not take.

Well if you flash a custom rom some have a navbar toggle for the notification pull down. You might be able to use tasker to set something up like that as in when the keyboard pops navbar hides then show back up after it's closed, but I'm not too sure as I haven't used it myself. Aside from manually toggling it I'd say that would be your best bet. I know for a fact that blisspop has the toggle.

Coming from Nexus 5, have some questions on OP3

I use Gravitybox on my Nexus so I'd like to do the same on the OP3.
It looks like the OP3 has physical nav buttons, which is to say, I can't add to that with anything.
Is there an IME switcher that shows up anywhere when typing for easily switching between keyboards? What about adding arrows for cursor navigation. I use Swiftkey for my keyboard, so unless I enable the keyboard row, there's no way to move the cursor with it. On the Nexus, I used the function in Gravity box to add cursor keys to the nav bar, but OP3 having physical buttons seems like it would put a stop to that too.
If I keep it stock and used systemless root/xposed/etc via Magisk, would it pass safetynet checks as it does on the Nexus when I turn them off?
Are there any other caveats I'd need to look out for?
(And in the interest of fairness, what would likely be the best improvements I notice too?)
You can enable navigation bar on the oneplus 3, even if there is physicals buttons.
The IME switcher will show up in the navbar if you enable it, or in the notification if you don't.
I don't know about root and safetynet

There is an option on the settings of the stock rom:good:
Welp, the physical size is bigger than I was hoping, but I can't find a better option on all the other specs.
This is most likely the only viable phone then and will be what I end up getting.
We shall see.
If needed you can use LMT to display the "pie" and customize actions.

That looks like it may do what I want.
I'm not quite familiar with it, can you make it so if I call it up, it persists until I dismiss it?
Thinking along the lines of bringing up a menu with "[<] [Dismiss] [>]" to let me do multiple arrow presses.
If that's doable, then that would fully take care of what I'm looking for.

Blocking temporaly hardware keys like in OOS?

Hi guys
I was wondering if there was a solution like in OOS to temporaly block the hardware keys, activable by a Tile..?
Like in OOS Game Mode?
Thanks by advance guys
In addition to the official, it seems that there is no such function
I'm looking for the same thing, but didn't find an app or other ways to block capacitive buttons only while gaming.
Pheonix AEX offers a similar functionality by having a quick toggle to disable the hardware keys. Other ROMs also have an option to disable the hardware keys, but they don't offer a quick toggle.
Right, thanks for the hint!

[mod request]

Is it possible to activate the navbar plus the hard ware keys? I would like to normally use the hardware keys but have the navbar to use the music controller or the "new" clipboard feature or just have some extra buttens. Maybe for some Tasker action or so.
Iam on OOS.
I would use this mod as well. That's how I had my Asus Zenfone 2 Laser set up. Hardware keys with back on the right and soft keys with back on the left that way I could use either hand without having to reach across the phone to press back or recents. It was like a rigged up one-handed mode.
Edit for clarification: I used Xposed to have both hard and soft keys. I'm not sure how else it could be done, but I imagine it'd be a little more difficult that a few edited lines of code here and there.
It's possible to do this currently with a few different custom ROMs. Resurrection Remix, which I currently run, has the option to enable both hardware and software keys, and it is likely that many other Lineage-based ROMs would be able to as well.
