Hi,
The autofocus of my m5 doesn't work properly, in particular I think that only one of the two autofocus systems used by the phone is working fine. As a result focus is obtained only roughly half of the times, and software is tricked by the fact that one (I think phase detection) focus mode doesn't work.
If I use a different software like camera fv5 (I read that it uses only one focus method) focus is obtained in all photos, at the price of a much slower autofocus.
I already deleted data in the camera app and repaired the software using a pc. I experienced the problem in two devices probably belonging to the same production slot.
I would be grateful for any suggestion, thanks
Sorry I realized only now that this is the wrong forum, I should have post the thread in help and troubleshooting

Hello all,
I have an issue with the autofocus on my brand new phone. The camera work fine in video but when I take au picture, the app freeze and I have to reboot the phone. I've noticed that when i switch the setting of the camera app to infinite (i.e. no autofocus) it work well.
so the issue definitively comes from the autofocus.
I cannot bring back the camera to the shop now (I'm away for several weeks), so i was wondering if there is a possibility to disable globally the autofocus, allowing me to use the apps which do not have this setup in their parameters.
By the way, if you have any link to give which may help me to solve my problem myself, i would be grateful.
I have little hope though.... Just in case,, it may be worthwhile to know that, at the beginning, this problem happened only after charging, and was resolved after letting the phone switch off for several hours.
I just got this phone 2 weeks ago (this Wednesday) and I noticed this issue right from the start. But then it started working fine and now it's not working again tonight.
Basically when I open the camera app, it will not focus on anything other than extremely up close. No matter where I tap, it's all blurry outside of like 3-4 inches from the camera.
I did some searching and found a link on androidcentral but nothing stating for sure if this issue has been fully resolved now. Clearly it hasn't for mine. Has anyone experienced this and found an actual fix or do I need to swap this out with the hope that it doesn't happen again? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I searched for 'focus' so if there's a thread already about this that I didn't see, please direct me there and close this up!
Thanks!
My gf got a note 4 (white) abt a week ago. And she coulnbt take pictures at all initially because it wouldnt focus on anything. (Never tried macro type pic to see if would focus on something close)
She ended up handing it to me to figure out and after i changed picture modes. And switched back to auto then the issue resolved itself and hasnt returned.
Fwiw my note 4 (black, purchased 10-16-14) never had this issue.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Oddly enough I think I'm having the same issue. Just got my Note 4 a few days ago, and I've found that when I launch the camera app, it either doesn't focus at all, or takes extra long to get into focus. I can see the little target image progress as it tries to focus, but it just keeps trying and fails. Every once in a while though, it will correctly focus. So the camera certainly is capable of properly focusing, but I'm not sure if its a software thing (my first conclusion) or a hardware thing (probably not).
same here
same issue i noticed if you put your hand up to the lense then slowly remove it and point it somewhere in the distance it will focus
im gonna try that solution though thank you!
Same issue hereon my wife's phone. Noticed it from day 1 but wasn't able to go back to the att store until day 17 after purchase. They would not budge on swapping the device since I was past 14 days. My only option is a warranty replacement, but I will hold out for now to see if a software update fixes the issue as I would rather not have a refurbished device. A quick shake of the device and it focuses. If you exit the camera app after it initially focuses and go back to the app it works fine. It only seems to be an issue when the camera app is not used for a while.
Its weird because I use another camera app (like the Google Camera one) and it will focus just fine, but the default Samsung-installed Camera app will sometimes fail to focus or sometimes will work just fine. So it seems like it may be a software issue.
So, I've noticed, on all 3 ROMs I've used on this thing, that the laser fires whenever the camera is open. That doesn't seem to mean every different camera, or rather any camera other than the stock LG camera, actually uses it. I've started to get slower focus times since I flashed AOSP. I mean, yeah, a lot of this should be obvious, LG's proprietary hardware requires LG's proprietary software, right? But the thing is, it still fires. So if there's a developer here that knows how all this autofocus stuff works, tell me, which of these is closest to the truth?
>LG built the setup in such a way that turning the camera on fires the laser. Nothing more to it.
>The laser is still working just fine like it did in the stock ROM, but your camera apps all suck/are acting up
>LG built the setup in such a way that the laser is not only turned on regardless of the camera, but it also produces autofocus data that could be used by a camera application, but since their framework isn't there, said data is never delivered.
>Only LG's camera app can use the laser, but it can use the laser in other ROMs if you get it to work.
So... I've tried many ROMs on this phone and the one that I like is This one. However there is one problem with it and that is the fact that focus is broken and the OpenCamera app 90% of the time takes a photo that's out of focus and it takes 10 tries to finally get at least one photo that is on focus. (yes I tried many focus options in the app)
Is there any way to calibrate this or fix this somehow?
There is Another rom where this is not an issue, (but I don't like that rom due to other stuff). Maybe I can copy some files over from there to fix this? I have no idea how these works. (when using OpenCamera app on that rom, it takes photos and focuses just fine on the first try)
I just experienced this focus problem.
In logcat it's reported as
Code:
mm-camera: [CAMIF]: semc_camif_sensor_get_focus _driver_ready:semc_camif_sensor_get_focus_driver_ready failed -22
I believe this to be hardware related, since changing rom or wiping didn't seem to make any difference (even though until just a week ago there were no problems).
But every now and then, I don't know why or how, it suddenly start to work again.
One of these days I might try to change camera module with a spare one I have.
Maybe you think it's a hardware issue because pretty much every custom ROM out there for this phone has that issue. (the one I linked also has that issue, just not as badly as others)
Right now I'm running the stock rom (that comes with the phone) and I have no issues with focus.
Hello,
I own an HTC One M8 (european version), which, unfortunately had a problem with the main camera: buzzing noise and unability to focus. I have already looked at the internet about this, and it looks like it was an hardware related problem which would require the camera replacement.
Therefore, I took my HTC to a phone repair store, however, it took a lot of time to repair, since after replacing the main camera with brand new units for three times, the phone didn't recognize the camera (black screen and returned to the main screen).
After that, they tried to replace the combo unit (main camera + duo camera) and the phone finally recognize them, however, there's a recurrent error saying "Duo camera is blocked, please make sure all lenses are uncovered", when the lenses are effectively uncovered. Additionally , when I cover the duo camera, the error doesn't appear (previously, I remember that it would appear immediately), and the photos, which were very sharp, now look unfocused and sometimes, like if they had some kind of halo light effect.
The guys at the repair shop even tried the new main camera with the previous duo camera, without any luck (the error remained)..and they just gave up about it (no charge), since they didn't know how to solve it (in Portugal, HTC phones are not very usual).
Just for your information, the phone is stock (official firmware) and was already reset several times (hard and normal reset) with no luck and, despite the fact that the error doesn't appear in safe mode, for me that's not a solution even because the image quality is not the same anymore.
Has anynone already solved this problem? (I've already looked in the internet, but didn't find any solution for this situation)
Thank you in advance.
Best regards
