rebooted the phone to fastboot
connected the usb cable
open cmd and run the following command " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
It worked okay and then rebooted the phone.
Now how do i make sure the twrp was installed?

Problem with fastboot
Hi. I have padfone2. I have rooted it and all was fine. i removed some stock apps and before installing recovery and backing up the phone i did factory reset. Now the phone shows asus logo then shows android logo with progress bar and few seconds later it reboots and does it again and again. I want to flash a custom rom so i started the phone in fastboot with power/volume buttons. All the screen shows is "Fastboot!!!" at the top of the screen and asus logo somewhere in the middle. I flashed suggested twrp with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from the cmd and it looked ok. When I rebooted the phone it went straight into the loop again. When I start it in fastboot mode there is no menu or anything else to start the recovery. What do I need to do to open it. Please help. Thanks.
This is the one V forum so I don't know what you can flash, but when your phone restarts (boot loop) you must have flashed a wrong kernel. To reboot into recovery connect the pad to the pc and type in cmd "adb reboot recovery" then just flash the right kernel, you have to find that on your own, check the thread of the rom you are trying to use

This is for updating your firmware to be able to run JB roms. From my testing ICS firmware will not boot the JB Roms.
Download
Reboot device into bootloader
Issue command - fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then fastboot flash zip JB_Firmware.zip
It might error out. Do NOT reboot. This is normal. Just run the flash command again.
When flashing is done issue command fastboot reboot.
You will need to reflash whatever recovery you were using also.
Now you can flash whatever JB Rom you wish

You're freaking out man... The same thing happened to me.... When you manually rebooted to bootloader, did you use volume up and down and power button to select FASTBOOT? Then wait until it says FASTBOOT USB?? Then issue "fastboot flash recovery *.img"??? I bet you didn't! Now, slow down, breathe, and try again...
AND flash the JB Stock rom. Thats why you aren't booting
Thanks for the advice dude. I finally did it!!! Dang it. I was freaking out, i need this for my bussines.THANKS A LOT JMZ 4 EVERYTHING!!!
A few things I have noticed, the keyboard layout changed, the buttons r placed differently... The rom is smoother..faster..but when u sign in with google account, it does not download automaticly every app u had synced with ur acc. It did b4

After the reboot I just get the HTC logo with red text then a black screen. just a black screen.
Phone is only rooted and unlocked.

Im still at a black screen after data wipe and factory reset.
Even the official HTC JB update cannot recognize my phone to recover it. It keeps saying signature failed.
To make matters worse I cannot even restore the backup I made before attempting this update because I keep getting MD5 mismatch.
So I am essentially looking at a brick.

To update to the latest jellybean firmware on the HTC One VX..... YOU NEED A COMPUTER
1. Make sure device is htcdev unlocked... If not go here htcdev.com
2. You have root.
3. Make sure you have SuperCID - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161402
4. Make sure you s-off your device with moonshine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2396838 or FacePalm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161425
If you have all that now proceed to step 5
5. Download Jellbean Firmware -*http://www.androidfiles.org/getdownload.php?file=TotemC2/Firmware/JB_Firmware.zip
6. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADB AND FASTBOOT CAPABILITIES ON A PC AND KNOWLEDGE WITH THEM. And place jellbean Firmware.zip in the adb and fastboot folder.. and rename .zip to " jb.zip "
7. Reboot device into fast boot by powering down the device and holding volume-down and power
8. Once in fastboot and computer detects the device... And the device says "Fastboot Usb" in the bootloader.
9. Excute command via*cmd or terminal ( depending on OS you use )*
Code:
" fastboot oem rebootRUU "
10.* execute command
Code:
" fastboot flash zip jb.zip "
And then wait till it's done... Once done execute command
Code:
" fastboot reboot-bootloader "
Now you'll be on the latest firmware
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can not use moonshine to S off on ics you have to be on jb firmware and I was not able to get cid till I was on jb and done moonshine s off don't know why but it would not work for me on ics.

Hello guys.
I'm with this problem that the phone don't pass the google logo.
I0ve tried flashing 4 diferent roms -xenon HD. cm11, etc and all of them dont boot. (flashes normally with wipe and all).
Also tried flasing diferent CWM, tried CWM 6.0.4.7 and 6.0.4.8 and TRMP 2.7 and still happens the same...
I noticed that before flashing new rom (had 4.1.2 on TWRP 2.3) the phone had that gallery problem that cannot open camera algo, could be possible that camera module dont let the phone boot??
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
cheers

Nexus root toolkit: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Factory images: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Flash 4.3 android
For flashing factory images you don't need custom recovery, but for ROMs you NEED it!
NO toolkit please.. Just manually use fastboot. No offense to the devs though.

Guys, worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!! really appreciate it
For anyone who's in the same situation:
1. install ADB/fastBoot on your pc and install phone drivers
2. put the phone in fastboot mode
3. flash stock image file from link posted above
4. boot phone
5. Done
If you want to flash custom rom right away
6. download cwm 6.0.4.7 or above
7. flash recovery via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recoveruFileName.zip)
8. enter recovery mode
9. flash new rom
p.s. to put files on phone, you0ll need to install twrp recovery instead, the in that recovery, enter advanced mode, then command line, select sd card then press select on right bottom corner. To transfer files go to command line on pc and pass files like: adb push fileNameAndPath.zip /sdcard
Cheers
Ok so I've had the fone a while now and finally unlocked the bootloader but as I'm knew to all this on lg can someone point me to a simple root method for marshmallow 20a I think if one exists or some other method of flashing TWRP onto my phone.

I'm trying to root like so http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/kernel-t3232651 because I've already have 6.0 and I'm stuck....
Anyone can help please??
Edit: You don't actually need to use fastboot commands... it's just annoyingly counter intuitive.
Here's what works to boot into recovery after it's been flashed:
Turn phone off
Hold power and volume down
Release power for a half second when the LG logo appears then press and hold again
Unit will boot to white LG recovery asking if you want to wipe all data
Confirm yes twice
Unit will boot to TWRP recovery
-----------------
I had this problem earlier. You have to use fastboot commands to boot into it.
Change twrp-2.8.7.0-h815 to match your twrp file name
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-h815.img
Fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.0-h815.img

rooted!
but it doesn't read my sdcard and bluetooth...
When I was installing twrp and CM13 on my G4, I tought that I can't access twrp either. When pressing vol down+power I got to the default screen with only option to factory reset. So I used the above command to access it. But I noticed, that if I go through that factory reset thingy, it will go to twrp without factory reset. So after you get to factory reset recovery, answer yes to the first question and then yes to the second one and you'll get to twrp.
So to get this straight
1 adb reboot bootloader
2 fastboot flash recovery.....
3 fastboot boot TWRP......
Then I can backup my current setup and then flash any Rom from there just like with my Samsung using TWRP after that then I can enter recovery via the power and volume down buttons?

Even after installing CM13 I still got default recovery with vol down+power, but was able to enter twrp when rebooting from CM13 using something like twrp manager.
But as I said above, you get to twrp by going through "factory reset" from default recovery. It will not do factory reset.
I personally went with Genisys 3.6 ROM after trying CM13 for a few days. Picture quality suffered too much for my liking, and miracast support was also lost with CM13. With Genisys ROM everything works well.
Hi all. Yesterday I rooted my ze551ml and tried to flash twrp onto my device. It was not successful and now I have no stock recovery. When I try to enter recovery by pushing the power button, it just returns to normal boot. I unlocked my bootloader with a file I found in the zenfone general section. How do I go about flashing the stock recovery. I downloaded a stock firmware from Asus and extracted it. But the recovery does not show up as a recovery.img. can someone give me some assistance or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I don't know then I have no time today , all stuff is in that link re flashing recovery , stock or custom , full firmware etc etc ..you have minimal fastboot and adb installed ? Drivers etc , your fone is recognised in adb ? eg, adb devices ?
What I would do , is fastboot flash recovery.img (twrp) and be done with it .Although if you have damaged other stuff ..flash full firmware , all info is in the link ..

I have tried to flash the latest TWRP recovery with those commands. It fails to flash. My bootloader has been unlocked with the unlock and relock program I found in the General section. I also have root. I have used root checker to verify. When I try to enter recovery, it goes right back to normal boot. I get no dead Android nor bootloader menu. I think when I tried to flash TWRP, it deleted my stock recovery. I am at a loss here. I never had this happen when flashing on my HTC one x or M7.

Quicksilver ? A few questions need answering please
1) do you have 'minimal adb and fastboot ' installed on pc ?
2) do you know the commands to flash a recovery in fastboot ?
3) and that you know how to get into fastboot ?
4) have you adb debugging enabled
Things to try, install 'reboot recovery' app from playstore and give it su rights then ..reboot bootloader ..then press the vol + once ...then try flash twrp in windroid toolkit ..the one for zen 2.
A few things to try there

Thanks timbernot. I have those installed and I do know the commands to flash recoveries and Roms. I will look and download what you have suggested.

Also , if you flash twrp successfully with windroid , don't reboot fone with keys into recovery, select reboot recovery in windroid first..then if you get into twrp , select reboot ..then select recovery ...before rebooting system .also try another data cable if fails lol..how many times I had a fecked data cable, also right click on windroid and run with administrator rights

Well, I'm beside myself. I have tried everything suggested to me with no success. I just don't understand where I am going wrong. Never had this much difficulty before. My warranty expires next month and I was hoping to get it going and not have to send it in.?

You say you successfully flashed twrp but couldn't boot into it(at the beginning) . Can you flash it again , then 'adb reboot recovery' this time ? Then if recovery comes up , press reboot ,then recovery... in twrp before rebooting system?
PS what build number do you have ?

This is for all builds ,from the link earlier .. in the sub folders of stock recoveries in the link..click on your build number file and it will open...if on .184 and its not there ,it maybe here

Thank you for your efforts timbernot. I am on .174. I did download the stock recovery but for my build, but was unable to flash it. It showed up as recovery in my download folder. It is my understanding that I have to ad .img to it when I flash" fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". I will leave it for this evening as I am terribly frustrated at the moment. I'll try again on the weekend.
