Really, my phone boots and all but after like 30seconds it reboots again
I'll email the dev maybe he can do a fix
I use Substratum with the Spectrum theme made by Jeremy Beck, lovely theme that works without issues for myself. I purchased it from the PlayStore.

If you go to the overlay section within Spectrum, there you can see all the Apps that will be themed, as standard it does the Google software and some third party software. There is a bunch of modded Gapps the developer offers, but I do not use them.
So, as far as I have noticed, all my apps are themed by Spectrum, the switches are all themed, as are the system icons in the panels.

Not sure what is happening or not working for you or why you are getting reboots, but might I suggest, if you recently updated Xposed Framework to the latest version that you revert back to a previous version. The newest version of Xposed was crashing and rebooting my phone both with Substratum and without so I restored a backup and went through the Substratum setup with Spectrum again and no issues with crashes/reboots.
Yesterday I said all my apps were themed, I was wrong, all the Google Apps and majority of Sony Apps are themed, other third party apps are themed. But not all apps.
I am on the latest Stock ROM and have root and xposed, Viper Audio and Substratum, everything is fine for me at present.
Sorry I cannot offer any more insight.

i will look into it when i have time

Hello, I am having a rather odd problem. It seems like anything that uses time on my phone, won't update.
Whenever I check my lock screen (Pattern), the lock screen clock shows the last time I unlocked my phone, and only updates to this time I unlocked. (7:10 when it is really 8 for example. Then next time 8;01 when it really is 8:30 and so on.)
Also, it seems my widgets using time also do no update. My clock still says 7:00. (HD widgets)
Any ideas why this may happen? Multiple searches on Google did not help. Thank you in advance.
Edit; I also did reboot many times, and I have tried force stopping my alarm clock/ lock screen and widgets. Doesn't help.

Have you tried clearing caches from recovery?

Do you have any Xposed mods installed?

I am on stock with unicon xposed module, kitkat toast back port, and advanced power menu.
I figure it out though, after wiping the cache and dalvik cache it fixed itself. I just wanna know what caused it. That is extremely weird.

That is kind of weird. I would to try to reproduce it because I too am on stock, but I am unfmamiliar with Unicon and Kit Kat toast, are those on the xda thread and not the repo?
Also, since you are also on stock: any idea how to enable emoji support in the stock messaging app? hangouts sucks, it keeps giving me flak and not downloading MMS messages.

Kitkat Toast message is in the downloads section of the closed module.
Unicon is on the play store, but it use to be a free module called "Icon Themer".
On the emoji thing; Honestly, all I did was download the Change APN app from the play store and entered the APN people were using on the ART ROM port. For some reason that one let's you use any messaging app on stock. Weird, I know but it works. Actually everything works on that APN. (I used the original one, not the others ones that said "if this one doesn't work, try this APN")
After using the APN edit, I personally use 8Sms as my texting app. It is the same as the old cm10/10.2 texting app with emoji support. Pretty awesome. Much faster than hangouts (on stock).
This APN

Sorry, one more set of pictures.
Here is the app. It also has quick reply and turn on screen when getting a message. Pretty cool.
Here is it in action working with the APN.
I was wondering what kind of xposed modules people use with the HTC 10. I'm currently using N-Ify, XNotifications, Amplify, and Greenify. I'm looking for some other cool modules that go well with the HTC 10.

It takes a little while to boot up after flashing the framework. It also has to re-optimize the apps which takes 15ish mins.
I flashed the v85 framework from here: http://dl-xda.xposed.info/framework/sdk23/arm64/

Whoa! I didn't know that there was a systemless Xposed! Is there any difference in performance? Also, how well does Gravity Box work with Sense?
No difference AFAIK

Followed the recommendations here and I love it. This is my first time using the Xposed Framework and I will never go back without it. I am using the Android N-ify and I was wondering if there was a way to rearrange the icons?
[EDIT]
Installed GravityBox and found the feature I needed.

Tested it for about a day. Really like how the little tweaks work with Sense. I'm so glad HTC isn't customizing android as heavily as other manufacturers anymore
Xposed just stopped working out of the blue all of a sudden, saying " Xposed framework version 85 is installed, but not active. Please check the logs for details."
I have been running Xposed perfectly fine on my HTC 10 for the past couple weeks, zero issues whatsoever, running perfect. I am on LeeDroid ROM, just run several typical modules with no problems; like Amplify, Greenify, YouTube AdAway, etc...
Well I just went to try out new mod to me, NotifyClean, installed it, rebooted, and played around a bit with it, didn't really like it, so I uninstalled it. Then rebooted, and it came back saying Xposed no longer active. I rebooted to Recovery again, flashed my Xposed zip, which is the latest one from May 28, rebooted, and again still saying Xposed not active.
I use YouTube AdAway, YouTube Background Playback, and Zoom for Instagram.
I'd love to try Android N-ify, but it doesn't work for me on Viper10.

For the ultimate Mode. Think GravityBox did not Capture all Downloads I liked.
If you are like me, you hate the all white of default Sammy N because it's obnoxious and straining. I have figured out how to apply purchased themes to the N beta. I was not able to purchase new ones either. I would get an error, even if I had the links.
Go to the Galaxy Apps store and select Categories. At the top of that page there will be a themes banner. Click on that, then go to the three dots at the top. Hit "My Page" then "Purchased". Your themes should be there, and you'll be able to download and apply them.
*Added screenshots in second post. The full site corrupted the pics and the mobile app wouldn't let me add in an edit.*

The Galaxy Apps Store shows that it is installed, but I can't access it. Am I missing something? I don't have anything disabled.
I realized I can do this through Samsung Themes without having to go through the Galaxy Apps Store. Thanks!!!
Anyone else have issues with Ultra Powersaving Mode? I disabled it and after resetting my phone everything was blown up out of proportion, wallpaper reverted, quick toggles reverted, and several other setting reverts. Had a theme installed so it may be related during restoring theme.

I had that issue at first as well. The App store automagically appeared somehow. Going through themes should work, but I bet an error every time I try to do it through settings.

This is driving me crazy!!!
When my phone is off sitting on a table and it rings, the screen does not come on. Just sound. I thought it was the theme, so I removed it from the dialer app and that didnt help. I removed the update in the Playstore and the screen comes on again when it rings. I removed auto update for the app, but what could be the reason the updated app isn't working for me?
Stock dialer or a custom app from app store?

I don't know if this will help or not, but a couple weeks or so ago, the Google phone app was giving me trouble with themeing. It was due to the fact that the theme was actually ahead of the Google update(go figure). So another user figured it out and linked me to the phone app on apk mirror. So I uninstalled the phone app, downloaded the apk mirror version from December 14th, installed it, and it worked great with my theme. What's more is that even after the update from Google, I'm not having the issue that you are, or many others for that matter. Here's the link if you want to give it a go. Can't promise anything, but what the heck :good:

Thanks for that. The dev of the theme I am using replied to me because his theme was not working on the phone app. He told me I needed to install this version

I installed it and applied the theme and it worked. Since the latest update, it doesn't. The version you posted is different than the one he did. I'm half tempted to try it, but at this point I have all the updates off the phone app and using a different dialer and it's working.
Also, how are you uninstalling the stock phone app...all I can do is uninstall the updates and disable.?

I uninstalled it using my root explorer. I just delete the apk, reboot, and gone. Have to be rooted though. If nothing else, just install the apk, then if you wind up with 2 phone apps, just disable or freeze the bad one. Or, just do what your currently doing. The updates aren't that big a deal anyways :good:

Just tried it. Once I apply theme, phone won't light up. Deleted 3rd party dialer, removed theme from dialer you provided. Now I'm using the Google dialer you gave me in stock white blinding form. A bit pissed...
I have the same issue. In my case I have a gear s3, and if I disconnect the bluetooth, when the call is coming the screen turn up normally, but if the gear is connected, the screen stays black..Additional, when you take a call or do a call, the sound automatically is route to the bluetooth device, I have to habilitate the sound in the phone manually. I think it was with the January update or the phone app last update, because other people have the same issue in their android devices. The solution for now is go to Play Store, search Phone app for Google, uninstall the updates, then go to settings in the phone - Apps - Phone, and clear the cache and data, force stop of the app. The phone app come back to another version (12.1...) which doesn't have this issue, after that the calls working normally. I hope for a fix from Google...
I would have expected more activity here......
seems like people are happy with their devices out of the box... so there isn't much need for mods, custom ROMs and stuff like this?!
I think the modding scene died as stock Android progressively chipped away at the best major features of custom ROMs. Better privacy controls, power savings, night & dark modes, quick tiles. Those were pretty much the biggest selling points for me. The only other custom ROM features people liked were PIE controls and and silly animations.
And with the Pixel you'd lose so many of the Pixel extras if you flash a custom ROM. (recognizing music, probably live transcribe, the nifty Live Wallpapers, etc.
I've been occasionaly racking my brain to figure out if there are any value-added features left to pursue. Say, for LineageOS- they could replace all of the stock audio files with some high quality and very unique sounds, get some interesting wallpapers (a fresh coat of paint.), improve the stock launcher, bundle F-Droid, and offer Google Cloud Messaging and location svcs alternatives. They did/are add(ing) an online backup solution called SeedVault.
It's a difficult thing to think of any original ideas. I also have this per-app fuzzy location idea I submitted to Google issue tracker (which iPhone also came up with recently. I think they call it Approximate Location.)
It used to be more exciting to be a flashaholic but every time I look at the custom ROMs these days they don't "do anything" for me. More minuses than pluses.

I have all these working on derpfest but I generally agree with your point. Im mostly modded for some personal QoL changes that might not be worth having SafetyNet broken, im weighing it atm
I rooted for about 2 weeks until a security update happened. It's such a pain to update without TWRP, I went back to stock. Only thing I miss with root is backing up data with Swift BU. There are a few other things that are nice with root, but not necessary (mainly custom accent colors, and fonts). I know I'd love to be back on Derpfest, but until a stable TWRP is available, sticking with stock.
Just got mine. Love it. Going to enjoy the stock pixel before playing around with root and roms.
Bought the Pixel 4a precisely to avoid all this root and modding stress. And I was not disappointed, everything runs perfectly.
My last 2 phones ran stock with root. This phone is no exception. I'd be on a custom ROM if the stock wasn't AOSP (eg. Samsung, MIUI, etc). Magisk fixes up any annoyances.

Hi,
I just bought a Pixel 4a, downgraded it to A10 and install Magisk and TWRP.
It seems to be running fine so far (1 week).
But I am concerned with your comment above about a security update breaking your root.
Is this right?
If so, then is there a way to stop auto-security updates?

What Magisk modules would you recommend?
I am coming from a Samsung S4 and I liked that the built-in Samsung apps each had a different material color header (Phone - green, Email - blue, SMS - Yellow), but the phone app and message app are just mainly all-white screen apps. But this gripe is theme related.
What other non-theme issues have you used magisk to fix?
I would still root for privacy and security reasons, but I can see why the regular schmegular joe wouldnt need to care. Pixel4a is a great phone stock or modded.

I am using XprivacyLUA, +AFwall Titanium Backup, Autostarts and Gravitybox to keep privacy up and to keep running apps to a minimum.
I'm pretty happy that I was able to find a phone that I could install the apps needed to get the control over it as I wanted.

I know how to freeze apps using TB, which totally disables them. But it sounds like you are just removing their background running permission, but still let them run when you want.
How do you do that?

Android has the ability to block any app from running in the background. It's a battery saving feature. But you can't do it to system apps. The primary system app I've seen abusing this inability to block it is Google maps. It works just fine as a user-installed app. Magisk debloat apps (I used terminal debloater) remove system apps (without actually having to modify /system) allowing you to install them as user apps.
Another easy way is to grab the system app apk from /system/app or priv-app and copy it somewhere, delete original folder, reinstall the apk, this time it will be a user app with the original your phone used rather than an online dl

I know how to freeze apps using TB, which totally disables them. But it sounds like you are just removing their background running permission, but still let them run when you want.
How do you do that?

Great post, cause i was thinking the same
I just picked up Pixel 4a this month and I am really wondering if I wanna be rooting or not. I previously have always rooted my devices (had Essential Phone as my last one). Root gets me AdAway (adblock), Swift Theme Installer and YouTube Vanced working but thats all really. Trying to weigh up if its really worth it with the Pixel 4a... original plan was to run it stock with root but now not so sure.
