Hello Together,
at night, when i am reading in bed or surfing with chrome the display is too bright.
Is there a app or tweak to reduce the minimum screen brightness?
I would prefer not to use an app with a filter overlay. It should really reduce the brightness.
I have read about such an feature with ElementalX Kernel. It did not worked so I changed to stock again.
THANK YOU,

Just disable adaptive brightness and adjust it manually to your liking.
Download the app f.lux , it sure makes the screen easy on my eyes at night
Thanks for your ideas.
Manual brightness lowest setting is no difference.
And i installed f.lux. I do Not like the settings.
Are there further ideas/possibilities?
What did not work with elementalx?
Did you install the kernel correctly and enable the backlight dimmer option? Works for me
Download this xposed module and lower the minimum brightness level.

ElementalX kernel has a feature which allows you to dim the display to a lower value than by default, you may want to check it out.
Try Twilight app
I found an app on Google Play called " TWILIGHT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.lux
You set the time of day for the phone to dim - early in the morning and late at night. It dims the screen but also shades more reds on the screen as it's better for your eyes before sleep to decrease the bright lights. Been using it for 6 months and I like it. Occasionally - I get a warning of "screen overlay" when I'm using sime new apps that modify phone settings, but you can pause the app to modify settings - and reactivate the Twilight.
Give it a try..

Hi,
automatic backlight is still too bright for me in almost any environment. I want to control the brightness of the screen by setting other values.
Is there an app or a hack to do this?
Good question. Loved to know too!
Look under widgets and you will find one called
"Brightness"
I'll let you figure the rest out for yourself

Try to using
Brightenes Level App
I recommend "SwitchPro Widget", which is available from the Marketplace. It allows you to toggle the brightnees, even to levels lower than the automatic setting.
Hi, i dont want to change brightness manually, but want to change the default values which are used for automatic brightness. Is this possible?
Does no one knows??
Hmmm would be handy!

Perhaps you could put some tinted glass/plastic over the sensor, so the phone thinks it's darker than it actually is and doesn't make the screen as bright?

good idea, but that's not the resolution, even in night it's very bright and for me even at manual 1% brightness it's a bit to bright for me...
would be awesome to have more possibilities to work with the amoled screen - by the way - for black it needs 0% energy so better to read white letters on black background
edit: me using "Quick Settings" to handle brightness etc.
Hi I am using dimmer lite download frm market place suits my usage

I would like the automatic brightness to be just a bit more brighter when im outside. Would be great to be able to adjust it!!
If there was something like a -2 -1 0 +1 +2 way to adjust it!
Dont want manually keep setting the brightness all the time.
I just tried the app called Dimmer.
It is perfect.
Goes to a very low setting and then switches back to whatever you had before.
I have the same problem with my Desire that the Auto Brightness doesn't go all the way down and the HTC Denmark support basically just said meh. And said they would report it as a wish for future updates.

This app is great! Thank you!
I have my phone on autobacklight, but I find that in dark settings its too bright!!
This app does what I want with a simple click! Shame however that there's no way to reduce the lowest brightness on auto setting built into the OS.
I really like the automatic brightness feature, but IMO it doesn't get nearly dim enough in dark situations. If I uncheck the auto brightness feature, I can dim the display to an acceptable level so I know the display is capable of it. Is there a way to adjust the threshold/range of the auto brightness levels?
Thanks,
Dave
A polite bump...
I wonder if you know the answer, do you?
Try the free market app, Dimmer. It works well, especially at night. Lowers the brightness to level 10, instead of default lowest of 30.

Do you know if this app will work with the new GB roms with the new sense on the novatech screens?
I was wondering whether there were any apps which would allow you to lower the brightness beneath the lowest setting available in settings? My brightness is at the lowest setting and I reckon I could lower it further and not be disappointed whilst saving myself some battery.
Any ideas?
I'd like to know this too. I've got my brightness at 0% using the "Brightness Level" app, but if I'm browsing I notice that if I sit on the screen for about 30 seconds, the screen will dim further beyond the supposed minimum.

Really? I used to run Voodoo beta 4 on Tayutama's JM8 ROM, but didn't see that feature and it's not mentioned in the changelog:
http://project-voodoo.org/changelog
I'm currently using Hardcore kernel which seems to be faster (probably because of the No-RFS Advanced option I'm using)

Old Voodoo for Eclair had a low brightness mode, but ultra low brightness will be in future Voodoo release, in approx ~1 month
And of course it will be configurable (or it's as useful as annoying!)
Dimmer App
I use the Dimmer app available from the market. This takes brightness down to a third of the default minimum...
Screen filter from the market works really well, you can set it more or less to completley black if you want. But i am not sure if it helps saving battery. But as far as i know how AMOLEDs work it should help...
Anybody else using it?

omg thanks so much now i use screen filter just what i needed no more harsh lights when i use phone on bed in dark
MY issue with the stock Rom, which has been bugging me for a while is that when I reduce the brightness to the minimum, the Contrast changes, or something of the sorts, this really annoys me and I would like to disable it. Can someone help me out? I really don't want to flash a custom ROM.
I think that's normal because of AMOLED display, I also noticed it on CM14.1
This is simply the way this particular screen works, can't be fixed with software.
You can only avoid it by not reducing brightness as much. According to "Lux" the color shift starts under 4% brightness.

But why does the min brightness in mxplayer not have this issue?

Because mx player doesn't set the brightness as low as you can set it manually using the brightness slider.
Select menu - display - settings - screen - untick "brightness". Now you can set your brightness manually to even lower using the brightness slider.
Other apps seem to work similarly (for example an third party brightness widget)... Not setting it to minimum... Like they don't recognize the "real" minimum brightness - which is lower. I don't have this "issue" on my tablet. Haven't looked much into it though.
Is there a way to brighten the ambient display, such as the clock and notifications that appear? I can barely see it in the sun. I had no problem seeing my moto z play in the sun.

If you go into settings / display there is a brightness slider that you can use to manually set the screen at a brighter level. I'm not sure if that recalibrates the base Android uses in its ambient settings or not. If you just are used to a brighter screen and find that the ambient setting continues to make the screen dimmer than you like after using the slider you can just turn the ambient display feature off entirely. I personally like the feature but a lot of people don't and just turn it off.
There are also apps in the Play Store that allow you to manually adjust the screen brightness without going into the settings menu, if you want to have easier control over it.

I know that the AOKP ROM allows alot of modifications to the ambient display brightness settings. Other ROMs may do the same but I know and use the settings on AOKP. It's a very good ROM! Native settings don't have the options.
AOKP and Pixel Dust are the two roms I know of that have this option.
You don't need a ROM to kick in higher brightness on auto brightness.
Just root and install ElementalX kernel or one based on it.
Then install this widget and once toggled, it will give you way more max brightness on auto brightness.

I noticed that my wife's phone has significantly brighter ambient display. They have identical settings as far as I can tell. So I'm not sure but I would love to find out the answer cause I want mine brighter too
Go to advanced display settings and toggle off the option to wake the screen with new notifications, then turn off the lift to view gesture. Your ambient display should brighten significantly.
