Xposed vs Custom rom - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title states what do you guys prefer.
My understanding is that xposed is not really meant for custom roms but for stock.
So would you prefer stock with xposed or a custom rom with PureNexus for example.
Or do you guys put xposed on custom roms. If so are there issues?

You can use xposed with eg pure Nexus, but as a general rule do not use any module that do the same as functionality built in the custom ROM. PN with xposed and greenify eg runs fine. But i wouldn't use any xposed module that messes with system settings with PN.
I would prefer a good custom ROM any day over 'patching' features with xposed modules. I feel a good custom ROM has its benefits in stability and compatibility any time.

Thanks for that I just loaded up xposed. Looks like I didn't even need to root.
Only put up N-fy and YouTube background playback. Seems to work great.
Not sure if the N-fy module messes with PN settings too much but seems to work great and give me all features of N without the issues of N.

[App] alternative for xposed on lollipop

Hi all. Xposed doesn't seem to be functional on lollipop.
What are you guys using to give xposed like commands ??
Is there any alternative?? Or we have to wait for its update??

I don't know of any. But xposed does work on lollipop. My Nexus 7 2013 is running 5.0.2 & xposed works just fine. There's a super alpha 5.1 build, but not all modules are updated yet. There's also a few threads with a list of working modules on lollipop.
Same Problem. Super alpha not compatible :/.....
I've got Xposed installed on 5.0.1 running GB and G3 Tweaksbox. I also have Amplify, YouTube ad-away, Greenify, and AC Display all running.
I am running 5.1.1 with xposed for 5.1 GOTO the thread they have a whole list of working modules, I have Greenify,Amplify,Gravity box alpha5.1,APM+,YouTube add a way all working, and all the HTC 4all blinkfeed,camera,gallery,music..ect

albeit xposed for 5.1.1 is up and running in the meant time it's beside the fact that is "per se" a huge hack, not really close to how it worked under KK. that's not a complaint, just stating a know fact. therefore i'm currently staying away from it, at least as long as "app settings" per app dpi does not work. what i did i tried to find solutions and/or roms to replace the main modules i was using before:
a) greenify + xposed experimental stuff: solution greenify paid version and lollipop OS improvements together produced the same battery experience for me like the one i had in KK which was 1-2% usage over a 8-10 hours period of idle time ( this together with (b)
b) amplify: read a and make it greenify +xposed features + amplify
c) app settings: no replacement found ( per app dpi ) dpi change system wide has never been difficult, currently i use 85% of default, depending on the device of which i'm using 7, the number differs, that's why i took percent.
d) silent mode / true silent mode: i made a tasker setup to deal with the matter and it works as well as before, but you need a cm-based rom
e) xBlast / GravityBox, depending: more or less all the features i was using with xposed modules and cm11 under KK are now bundled into various
custom roms + themes, be it RR or CM-Theme engine. thus i'm satisfied with what i got and don't desperately need xBlast or GravityBox ATM.

[P600] Any way to get multi windows running a custom ROM?

Stock like custom windows on custom ROMS is that possible. I mean without deal breaker compromises like camera not working.
Is that possible? All xposed modules I saw are very outdated!

I am using latest cm13 build with working camera and build.prop line to enable multi window.
persist.sys.debug.multi_window=true
Works well for me.

Any way to add Volume Steps into a Sense Rom?

Is there any way to use this feature in a Sense rom perhaps with a kernel or xposed module?
I'm pretty sure Exposed offers a module. At least the last time I used it, there was one.

Depending on what version of android you're using.. If it's MM then xposed can do it as can the rom you flash.
If you're on N then xposed cannot be used as of yet, however the likes of venomrom have these features i believe there will also be some other roms that have this too. Take a look at their feature lists.

Official Xposed for Nougat now available

Official Xposed Framework for Android Nougat is Here – Download your Favorite Modules Now!
Announcement by rovo89 in XDA thread
Anyone tried it yet? Please give your feedback here.
He also says Xposed for Oreo won't be a long wait!
Tried it on a stock build, rooted, BL unlocked, etc. Installs great. The Youtube adaway works well, greenify doesnt work yet. the others I use arnt supporting N yet. only a matter of time
either way, its safe to install, make sure you install the correct version, and wipe cache on boot, or else stuff breaks
I mainly used (on my Moto X Pure running MM): GravityBox (which is supposed to be ready), Youtube adaway, and Youtube background play. Greenify and Amplify too but not nearly as important on this phone. OG Youtube has given me pretty much the same capability using custom ROMs, though, along with some of the customization you get in Gravitybox. I do wonder about a potential performance hit running the Xposed framework, but it'd sure be nice having the full stock camera functionality again.

Can you please share the direct download link of what needs to be flashed/installed first? It would be great if you can mention the order of flash/install as well? This is for users like me who would be requiring some help.
Also, I have magisk 14 installed on my rooted g5 Plus and am seeing Xposed Installer in the Downloads section? Can you please confirm if this is the official one?

I'm using the GB beta. It's working well for me. No need to flash AOSP anymore
GB has all the things I like to flash LOS for and I don't have to deal with any bugs :good:
I've got it running too, thanks to the favorable feedback getting me to take the plunge after not being on stock for several months. Am using the Youtube Adaway that appears under Installer/Download, then found a Youtube Background Playback module apk that seems to work fine, and the GravityBox/Nougat also as an apk (says it's alpha, not beta). No errors or problems so far and settings are holding after reboots.
I'm really not a big camera user but the stock camera is noticeably brighter and just works way better than those on the custom roms. Viper4Arise (flashed as a zip in TWRP) works on everything but SoundCloud, which I think is a nougat thing because it works on all the oreo roms I tried, but also didn't on most nougat roms.
I'd say it's definitely a go for those wanting to try it, just do some research to see if your preferred modules are working or not, and don't expect it to be perfect yet since it just came out.

Best rom for xposed framework?

Hello! Bought a MI6, unlocked it and decided to install the usual stuff, Tasker, Xposed with various modules like MinMinGuard, but the biggest obstacle so far has been the inability to boot if resource hooks aren't disabled in the settings. Have tried various combinations of Xposed and nougat based MIUI roms like global/china dev, xiaomi.eu weeklies, Epic. The modules I'm trying to run seem to heavily rely on those hooks, is there any rom out there that would actually run properly with Xposed? It doesn't even have to be MIUI based, just something that WORKS
