"err on the side of kindness"
Hi there,
I tried to install twrp, but when I try to use it, it says that the phone is set up to use cwm( second hand phone with cwm installed) .
Not sure how to remove cwm pre installed.
Many thanks.
i have successfully used "flashifly" (DL'able from playstore) to flash updates of twrp. might work for you.

Assuming you have Windows,
Download Odin 3.07: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...5QWImOPDJboTA_V3D5S9eA&bvm=bv.133700528,d.amc
Download the latest tar version TWRP and save it to your computer: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/
Open Odin, uncheck everything except f reset time, click on the PDA box and select the TWRP tar file, connect the phone in download mode, click start to flash the phone. After a successful flash, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, replace the battery, use the button combination to boot into TWRP.

please help!!!

Flashing TWRP for the d2att to a d2tmo would not cause the brick. Cross-flashing TWRP among similar devices will allow flashing a custom ROM to a phone without changing the updater script. For example, flashing TWRP for the international s4 (gt-i9505) to a Canadian/Mexican s4 (sgh-i337m) allows a ROM designed for the gt-i9505 to be flashed to the sgh-i337m.
If the phone is booting, it is soft-bricked. Do you have USB jig? Power off the phone, let it charge, and flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com.

I have flashed an s3 T-mobile phone with TWRP for the s3 AT&T with no issues. I was also able to flash back to stock on the s3 T-mobile as well.

Power off the phone and let it charge. Mean while,
Download Odin 3.07 from here: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...5QWImOPDJboTA_V3D5S9eA&bvm=bv.134052249,d.amc
Download the latest stock ROM for the t999 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-T999/ Use 7zip to unzip the file once to yield a tar file.
Open Odin, uncheck everything except f reset time. Click on the PDA box and select the unzipped tar ROM, boot the phone into download mode and connect it to the computer, flash the ROM. When the ROM has been successfully flashed and you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove the battery, replace the battery, boot into recovery mode, perform a factory wipe, and reboot.

I've been having issue with my Sprint Note 2 for a while. I've also posted this to Reddit and other parts of the forum but so far have gotten no way to fix my issue. Here's the link to Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport...nt_note_2_sphl900_bricked_after_attempted_43/
Sorry, I didn't want to type that all up again and having to deal with formatting and such.
Basically, the gist of it, from what I can gather is that I have accidentally loaded the 4.3 bootloader with KNOX and it is currently preventing me from doing anything productive (flashing CWMR, rooting, installing stock, etc). I read here on the forum that there were ways to do so, especially this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46861777
I was wondering if there were steps for the Sprint Note 2 SPH-L900?
Any help in debricking my phone is appreciated.
Try these steps.
1. Boot phone into Odin/download mode
2. Flash twrp or cwmr via Odin.
3. When it reboots pull battery and then boot into recovery.
4. Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36388145 it is mc2 bootloader, firmware, radio, etc...
5. Reboot phone. Things get weird for a few mins but it will boot.
You are now Knox free once again but you are also bone stock.

I've tried that multiple times. The problem here is that I can't load CWMR or TWRP. At first, I assume that I'd have to root so I downloaded the CF auto root file and flash it using ODIN. Then I tried installing CWMR (after converting to .tar using Caboomi's tool here on the forum). It would reboot and I tried holding down volume up + power + home button but nothing would happen. I try combinations of that and still nothing. I flashed the 4.3 sboot.bin to get it back to stock Samsung bootloader then retried with CWMR without rooting first this time and it still doesn't work. ODIN would tell me that it succeeds but I can't enter Recovery no mater the combination of keys that I press. I'm assuming this has to do with Knox in which case I'd just have to wait for the official 4.3 firmware on SamMobile to flash it since stock 4.1.2 won't work.

I tried 3.07, 3.09, and even barebone 1.85 that came with CF auto root. It doesn't work. I can't load recovery just fine (according to ODIN) but I can't get into Recovery.
Here is the fix https://www.dropbox.com/s/s2clvyo4y6gar6s/4.3_Unbrick.tar
I promise this will fix your issue, but when you get done, you will be on MC2 with the 4.3 bootloader, but, it will boot, let you flash recovery and everything. I know this because I did the same thing as you and flashed the old cf-auto root and bricked my phone to, and I created this file to fix it and if you look in the help section, you will find my thread on how to unbrick after 4.3 update fail.
I promise though, this will fix your fone

...My God..... What ever you did, it worked. Turns out, Caboomi's file didn't work too well. I couldn't get CWMR working at all even after converting to .tar. I used TWRP instead and it works. Problem was that it asked me for my password, which I don't know since I tried everything, so I had to resort to wiping everything. I installed the file jlmancuso suggested, loading it onto SD card then flashing using TWRP, and now my Samsung Note 2 is debricked.
Your file was a godsend. Thank you!
No recovery stuck on bootloop
im having the same issue could you post that dropbox link again
So i was able to get recovery back but it wont let me mount my sd card so i cant flash anything through recover was hoping the file you have could be loaded through odin as it is a .tar file correct please help and thanks in advance.

Try using TWRP instead. It gives you the option to mount an external SD card. Also try restarting into recovery again. I had Recovery bugged out on me once.

For those of you who have bricked Note 2s (SPH-L900), I'm going to drop a DropBox link here to a folder of ALL of the files that I used to unbrick my phone. I experimented with multiple methods (and several sleepless nights). Some of them will be useful to you, not all. I have the Android SDK and Caboomi's converter for .img to .tar. It doesn't work too well for CWMR just FYI. ODIN-OC will attempt to load stock MC2 onto your phone but it won't work if it's bricked. Arc Converter is a program I used to try convert the MK4 .zip file to .tar to try and flash an update using ODIN. It didn't work. The steps that I took to unbrick my phone will be posted after the link.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/c2bfpfdf0qbs6bu/ZiNC-BF5kf
Be patient. Some of the files are still updating.
Steps:
1) Put your phone into Download mode by holding volume down + power + home button at bootup
2) Use ODIN (3.07 or 3.09) to load the 4.3_Unbrick.tar file. This will take a bit of time so be patient. Once the phone boots up again, you'll get past the boot screen that says "Samsung Galaxy Note II" and you'll get the Samsung logo with the spinning icon but it will loop. This is normal.
3) Next, power off (yank the battery and cable, leave battery out but plug the cable back in) and reboot into download.
4) Flash the TWRP .tar file (don't try converting the CWMR to .tar, it won't work) then reboot.
5) Hold volume up + power + home button (be patient here)
6) You should see the Team Win logo. You're now in recovery. The TWRP may ask you for the password. It is NOT the passcode to your lockscreen or your Google password. I have no idea what it is. At this point, you'd have to wipe your phone (internal only) if you want to flash the stock recovery.
7) Load the MC2 stock recovery file with counter reset onto a microSD card and mount it onto the phone (play around with TWRP, if it doesn't see the SD card the first time, restart or play with the mount function). Just be careful not to wipe your microSD card.
8) Flash the stock recovery (give it time) and it'll restart. You should be back at 4.1.2.
EXTRA STEPS
If you're still interested in 4.3, load the MK4 update onto the microSD card as well. BEFORE you go through the activation process for the 4.1.2 firmware at boot, boot into recovery. Flash the 4.3 update using stock recovery. This should put you onto 4.3 after the phone reboots. You should now have stock 4.3 (no root).
Sorry for all the download errors, I am uploading to my websight right now and as soon as it uploads, I will post the URL, it should download much faster too. I didnt realize so many people needed it
Guys, I think I really screwed myself this time.
1) When I turn my phone on, it shows "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." However, when I try to do the emergency recovery on Kies, it doesn't show up on the list of devices that requires emergency recovery.
2) Somehow I deleted CWM, and I have no backups
3) Stock firmware doesn't load correctly. I tried it (Maybe with the wrong file, I don't know), and it got me to the start screen, but the touchscreen freaked out on me.
Hope all of you like a challenge... Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Phone won't boot to recovery, Even when I press up-home-power it stays in odin mode.

This sometimes happens when an ongoing OTA update is interrupted. You could first try firmware recovery via Kies. If that doesn't work, then you can flash custom recovery via Odin, since you can get into download mode, and flash a complete stock image or custom ROM via recovery. To try the first option ...
1) Install and open Samsung Kies on your PC. You need Kies now and not Kies-3
2) Open Tools => Firmware upgrade and initialization
3) Enter your model name (SGH-I747)
4) Enter the serial no of your device. Open the back cover and look in the battery compartment for this
5) Do not plug in your phone at this time but make sure you have a good quality data cable ready
6) Wait for firmware download to finish and follow the rest of the on-screen instructions. Connect your phone when prompted and allow firmware restoration to be complete.
Hope this works. If it doesn't, then try firmware restoration via (custom) recovery. I wouldn't suggest you try flashing with Odin in case your phone's bootloader already updated to 4.3. Your safest best would be to flash a complete 4.3 stock image and you can follow the instructions posted in this thread ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
First, you would need to flash custom recovery to your phone via Odin. You can use TWRP or CWM for now since the files posted in the thread support either one or other of the two. If you need further directions or help on this, please let us know. Good luck!

For the Kies way, It starts working, but then it turns off suddenly.
For the other way, I don't know how to do it, because I think CWM got deleted off my phone.
EDIT: When I removed the SIM Card, I was able to install the firmware. However... It freaks out whenever I put it in recovery mode, not letting me select an option. Oh, and When it gets to the purple oval with the samsung logo in the middle while booting, it shuts off.

You said you were able to successfully flash the firmware. Good! Was this via the Kies option or the recovery option? If you flashed the firmware, then you are there already. Can you try booting into recovery again and doing a wipe/factory reset? If this doesn't work, then we can try the 4.3 restore.

Except, of course, you'll need to be able to get into recovery mode fully to use this option. You may try downloading TWRP for your device via the following URL ...
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar
Boot your phone into download mode and flash the recovery *.tar file via Odin
Check if you can successfully boot into TWRP. If so, you can try the hard wipe thing here. If not, it gets more difficult and you may need to go back to Odin.
If TWRP recovery works ....
1) Try doing a hard wipe/reset. If this works and enables you reboot successfully, order a drink or something. If you still cannot boot successfully, then try next step below.
2) Download the 4.3 stock recovery zip for TWRP posted in the following thread. Verify the MD5 and save to an external SD card...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
3) Place the SD card in your phone. Reboot to TWRP recovery and select install. Wait for flashing to complete. Clear your cache/dalvik and reboot to system
If you still cannot get to recovery ....
4) There is an Odin flashable *.tar file for i747 on 4.3. There have been mixed reports on its success, however. Some have reported using it successfully whilst a few have reported a brick. You have little to lose, however, and a brick, if it happens, would be likely recoverable. Scroll through the thread to find the file posted by Recognized Contributor Enewman. Download this file and flash via Odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722660
I'd have also suggested flashing 4.1.1 via Odin, except there is a risk that your phone is already on the 4.3 bootloader and flashing an older would result in a brick.

I thought you could get into download mode easily enough before? If you have difficulties getting into download mode, you may try using a jig as you will need download mode to effect any of the various solutions. There is no reason to panic, however. Your phone is never bricked as long as you can get into download or recovery mode.

I love you. However, there's a problem...
It's wildly inconsistent when booting up. One time I got all the way to signing into my google account, but some times it reboots after getting at the swirling pink and blue samsung logo.

Can you try using Odin to flash 4.3 via then instructions posted earlier in the thread or follow the steps in the thread advised by xXFl4sh? The Odin should do it though.

my phone shut off in the middle, and it said that it failed. Now I'm back to the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please connect to kies and try again" screen. I can still get into download mode. What now?
It apparently tripped my warranty bit too
and it shuts off within 3 seconds when on download mode. I read something about "sudden death syndrome". Is this it?
I follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
I put this file on the sd card debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img, made sure phone battery was charged up. Tried to enter download mode, it completely skipped it and phone is now running stock 4.3?? I try to enter recovery mode and it still just starts up with Stock 4.3.
So I assume it is running completely of the sd card. I can enter Stock Recovery but not sure what I do now. If i pull the card the phone is dead like before. Red light when plugged in, nothing happens with any button pushes.
I guess I am wondering what my next step is?
Thanks

The device is indeed booting off the SD card. However, if you can boot into system, you should also be able to boot into download and recovery modes using the 3-button combo. If you can get into download mode, you can try using Odin v 3.07 to flash the complete 4.3 stock image. Download the Odin flashable zip file from the link below to your computer. Extract the tar.md5 file and verify the MD5 to be sure it downloaded correctly.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407590581
Download Odin v3.07 and run Odin.exe for the flashing tool. With your debrick card, boot into download mode by pressing the Volume Down, Home and Power button. If you can't get into download mode with the 3-button combo, suggest you try a USB jig. Use Odin to flash the stock file to your phone. If the flashing is successful, the device should be able to boot normally after this without the debrick card.
Cool thanks Larry2999. I will have to go the USB jig route it won't go into recovery or download. I can only get into Stock recovery. Any specifics I need to know when getting a usb jig? Thanks again for you response. I am just glad it is working now. But probably don't want to run off SD forever.

There is a thread somewhere on how to make a D-I-Y jig. You can, however, buy it cheaply online for about $3. In buying one, you'd only need to be sure it states that it works with the S3.
Looks like you are able to get into recovery now but you have stock, rather than custom, recovery. There is only one recovery partition and the default is stock, unless, you flash a custom recovery. If you had custom recovery, it would have been possible to flash a 4.3 stock restore zip via (custom) recovery. To flash custom recovery, however, you'd need Odin in download mode so we are back to the problem with getting into download mode.
Thanks Larry ordering jig tomorrow

Do you suggest a reliable 4.3 stock to flash or install through ODIN? This is how I got to where I am, something screwed up trying to install stock 4.3 through ODIN.
Thanks again for your help. Jig should be here in a couple days.

Yes, the ONLY way to recover is to flash a complete 4.3 stock image. Are you sure you bricked in the first instance by flashing 4.3 via Odin? The only Odin compatible stock 4.3 file I'm aware of is the one in the link I forwarded earlier. This was only recently developed and appears to have been used by several people without problem. You may check to be sure you were not trying to flash a 4.1.1 file in error. Apologies if I sound like I'm second guessing you but flashing 4.1.1 via Odin usually results in the kind of hard brick you experienced.
The other alternative would be to flash custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) via Odin and then use custom recovery to flash a complete 4.3 stock image. You will find the instructions in the following thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Download the stock restore zip for your preferred custom recovery option to your PC and save to your phone's internal storage. If you want to use TWRP, you can find the Odin flashable file for TWRP via the link below ...
http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2att.tar
If, however, you go the first option and flash the 4.3 file via Odin, be sure to use Odin v 3.07. You'll see the Odin flashable file and instructions on page 4 of the following thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722660&page=4
or you can download directly from here ...

The file from that thread is for (custom) recovery only. You can't flash zips via Odin so if you are using that file, you would need to first install custom recovery via Odin and then flash the zip via custom recovery.
Hey Larry, just wanted to say thanks. Phone is back working properly, 4.3 installed with no problem. Took me awhile never had the time. So fathers day was my chance to get this working. Flashed twrp and then the stock zip. Worked great.

Hello!
I am very new to tinkering with phones. I had a Galaxy S3 sitting idle and thought I'd put Cynaogynmod on it, which is where this all started.
This phone has 4.4.2 installed. Modem = I747MVLUFNK2
I made the mistake of installing I747MUMUEND3 modem. Now my wifi won't turn on. I've done fair amount of searching and couldn't find original modem for 4.4.2. Help please!
Easiest way to fix the issue would be to re-flash the nf2 firmware from sammobile.com. Alternatively, you could download the firmware from sammbile.com, extract the modem, and flash just the modem.

Thank you.
I have downloaded the firmware from sammobile.com. It is 910MB in size. I was going to put it on phone's memory card and load it via recovery. However, even though I have deleted absolutely everything from the card, Windows is telling me it only has 768MB of 968MB free. I'm not sure what's going on with this. Any ideas?
I really only need the modem firmware, how do I extract just that from the entire thing?
Edit: Okay, so I was able to open the .tar.md5 using 7zip (It complained but opened it). I see a bunch of files in there (see screenshot), which one would correspond to the modem?
The NON-HLOS.bin file is the modem.
I have the whole NK2 firmware (TELUS) on my PC, do you want a download link?

Thank you. I was able to download the entire firmware from sammobile. If you take a look at post#3, it explains why I am not able to put it on the phone's memory card.
As an alternative, you could re-flash the entire ROM using Odin. The file gets transferred to your phone from your PC with the USB cable.
Before flashing anything, you should confirm the bootloader on your phone. You can do this by donwloading the Samsung Phone Info app from the Play Store. Flashing the wrong file can brick your phone.
I can certainly give that a shot. However, right now the problem is I can't access the internet as phone's wifi will _not_ turn on. So there's no way for me to download something off Play store.
Edit: I am learning how to sideload, seems pretty straight forward. Since I already have the correct firmware from sammobile, should be able to side load it. Although, audit13 has now scared me a little I must say.

No need for wifi. Find a link and download the APK file. Copy the apk file to an external sd card and install it from the SD card.

Thanks for that. As per the app, bootloader version is I747MVLUFNK2.
Now, I do have the whole firmware downloaded. I would love to simply install it by copying it onto my sd card and installing via recovery. However, the filesize is 910MB. My sd card is 968MB, I have deleted everything on it and still Windows tells me I only have 764MB free. How can that be?!

Do not unzip the tar.md5 file. You flash the file as is using Odin when the phone is connected to your computer. The phone needs to be in download mode to flash with Odin.

I flashed Philz recovery (philz_touch_5.15.0-i9300.tar.md5) via Odin and now phone wont boot into recovery. I had Auto Reboot checked in Odin but phone booted into Android after. I did eventually get a PASS from Odin.
I can put the phone in Download mode just fine.
If I press Volume UP + Home + Power button, I do see Samsung logo with blue text on top left. Then screen goes blank and then phone boots to Android (seems like it reboots). I had tinkered with rooting the phone before, so I don't have stock recovery software atm. That might be the reason it won't boot into recovery. I would like to go back to stock recovery and give flashing philz recovery a shot again. How do I go back to stock?
Download this version of Phulz: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/philz_touch_6.48.4-d2lte.zip.md5/
Open Odin, connect your phone, uncheck everything except f.reset time. Flash Philz. When you see reset in the status window, remove usb cable, remove battery, replace battery, boot into recovery.

Should update your recovery to 2.8.7.0 to be sure everything flashes correctly. You dont have to update stock rom because there is no lollipop for m919.

Download the latest stock ROM for the m919 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-M919/ . Downloading from sammobile may take a long time but it is good to have a copy of the ROM in order to flash back to stock when necessary. The file needs to be unzipped once to yield a tar.md5 file.
Download the Odin 3.07 from here: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=...5QWImOPDJboTA_V3D5S9eA&bvm=bv.112454388,d.amc . I like Odin 3.07 because it has always worked for everything I have done to my s2, s3, s4, and Note 3.
Backup your data because the phone needs to be factory reset before booting the stock KK ROM.
Open Odin, click on PDA, browse to and select the stock tar.md5 file you downloaded from sammobile, uncheck everything except f.reset time, put the phone into download mode and connect it to the computer, flash the phone, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, boot into recovery by pressing the required button combination, wipe data and cache in recovery, reboot the phone. It will take quite a while for the phone to boot into the stock ROM, be patient.
Once the phone is up and running, download the latest tar version of TWRP for the m919 from here: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltetmo/
Open Odin, click on PDA, browse to and select the TWRP tar file you downloaded, uncheck everything except f.reset time, put the phone into download mode and connect it to the computer, flash the phone, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, boot into TWRP by pressing the required button combination. Once you are satisfied that TWRP is working properly, reboot the phone.
Now that TWRP is on the phone, you will be able to flash custom ROMs.
