On the Fence - Verizon Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi folks,
I am thinking about getting the Note 7 on VZW. Mainly for the camera and spen. However, due to carrier bloat, and everything else that VZW has done to this phone to screw it up. At the end of the day, is it still worth it?
Thanks!

I love mine I've disabled everything that I don't need and there is only a couple apps you can't hide or get rid of. I honestly can say that I haven't had any issues with the phone despite the recall and what not. What are you coming from?

Getting my replacement was quick and easy on one their corporate stores. Glad I waited for the new batch, as I personally feel that there is no other phone in the market that is comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. All new Note 7's are marked with a 'Black Square Symbol' on the box, and the on screen the battery indicator will be green after you run the first Security Update. :cowboy

Moto X from 2014, ugh. Only other phone I am interested in is the Pixel, mainly because it's stock Android. How is battery life on the device by the way?

I had the option to preorder the iPhone 7 or wait for the new note7's to come in when I returned my note7.
At first I caved in because I've been using Android for years and years, and I thought a change to a somewhat different, and, at times, a smoother user experience will be a good change.
However, I found that I love the camera, the display, and the Spen features too unique. Especially when I use the Spen to take notes in college! It's so useful! Plus, I love Android too much.

My battery life is great, typically I am doing a lot on my phone daily....calls, texts, emails, videos, social media, the only thing I really do not do is games. My phone tends to get me through the day and what I mean by that is I leave my house at about 7am and it doesn't see the charger till about 9pm. Sometimes I have some juice left and sometimes its almost dead. For me, it works and its great but it is of course going to vary with usage and what you have on your device. As far as the stock experience goes I have a launcher on mine and what not so I get as far from touchwiz as possible.

I'm coming from a note 3 on sprint but I was rooted running a note 5 rom. I'm really not impressed with the note 7 and the videos I took this weekend were equally unimpressive. Don't walk and record video is all I gotta say. I have lag constantly that I thought would be long gone being that it's much faster than my note 3. The Verizon signal is a million times better though and for that reason alone we will be sticking with Verizon. I ignore bloat or disable so whatevs on that. I'm contemplating the s7 edge considering the cost difference and being nearly identical. Plus with all the note taking good options out there like Google keep, I don't even use an spen hardly anymore. I can type 10 times faster than I can write plus I can actually read what I wrote

Thanks man. Truth be told, I have owned Samsung phones in the past and I am not a huge fan. Not much else on VZW that I am interested in. Curious about the Pixel in a way but, have a spare N5X when I feel the need. With the dope camera, spen, and IP68 it seems like a no brainer. Kinda wish Moto was not sold by Google to Lenovo or I would have got another Moto device.
That said, just ordered a Note 7 on VZW in black! Now, the hunt for cases begins!

Say what? The camera on the Note 7 is dope!

Just picked up two N7's last night. Immediately did a full data reset and did not restore from backups, but installed everything fresh.
Thus far, I'm thrilled with my N7 as is my wife. I've been using the phone for most of the day, tweaking things, installing apps, and playing around. I came from a Note 4 and LG G3 prior. I'm very pleased.

The pictures yes. They look amazing. And even video I've recorded by propping up and recording looks beautiful. But I recorded the Redwoods this weekend as we walked through and it looked pixilated and horrible. It's like it couldn't keep up and studdered allot.

I took the plunge today! Got a steal of a note 7 on CL so I am going to try as soon as case comes in!

Note 4 at Best Buy today to check out!

You can play with the new Note 4 at Best Buy starting today. Hopefully some of you will get us some good videos to check out.
You best me to it. Store had the white one only. Absolutely fantastic. Looks so Much nicer than my white Note 3. Definitely felt heavier but I am sure it won't bend in the pocket! I cannot understand the love for the iPhone 6 plus. This is smaller with a bigger more Hi res screen and simply more together
Can't wait til it Comes out.

People are afraid that there might be something better out there than their beloved iPhones! I don't mind using either one. Hence, pre-ordered the 6+ and as soon as I got to play with the Note 4 today I canceled my order and preordered the Note. Just so much more to be excited about and may I add the Note 4 feels miles better in the hand than the iPhone 6+.

I will check it out this weekend.
I wouldn't put too much stock in the bending iPhones. Those guys are use too 4" screens. Gotta adjust. My HTC One S was initially vilified for screen cracking. Again, mostly mishandling imho.
I just played with one at my local Best Buy! That screen is noticeably crisper IMO. A big surprise is how loud that back speaker is! Hands-down the loudest Samsung phone I've ever heard! Significantly louder than my Note 3 in the demo video I played. I could easily hear the Note 4 over all of the other background sounds! I don't know how Samsung did it, but it could potentially be a huge selling point, especially considering the controversy with the awful back placement. However, my hands usually rests where the speaker is placed, so the sound is actually redirected towards me and it's great! I'm sure it's no HTC M8 boom sound, but it beats anything else I've heard! I'll do it! I'll upgrade to the Note 4!

I played with the note 4 at best buy today, and I'm glad I cancelled my preorder for the iPhone 6 plus. I have a note 2 right now and using the note 4 made me want it today! October 14th can't come soon enough

I'm going to the KOP Best Buy tomorrow to have a close look
I want to confirm that it has the "super dimming mode" like S5.
I checkout out the demo ones in my local best buy too. Such beautiful construction, hands down the best screen I've ever seen. Too bad there are only two white units for display. I can also confirm that the other members are right about the speakers, it sounded very loud, even with all the background noise in the store. Also, the store rep was able to confirm that the Note edge should be out about a month and half later than the Note 4, but no pre-order just yet.
Haha. I can't believe they have it out now. I literally went in the day before to talk to them about the phone and their trade in deal. They guy was like, "we should have our demo in really soon." Lol.

Can people who've seen this in the flesh eelaborate more on the sound. Ok its loud, but what about the quality? Is it loud tiny or is there some bass in that sound?
Went and looked at the Note 4 when picking up one of the new grey Moto 360's this morning. All I can say is wow. I've had all the Note phones over the years and the construction of this new one is really premium. Compared to the 6 Plus on display there's no question that the Note 4 is a better construction and in hand feel. I've had every iPhone from 4 through 5S for work and its clear Apple doesn't know how to build a "big" phone yet.
I'll be putting in my preorder this week!
I put in my preorder as well for the black one. Should get the $200 BB gift card for trading in my old Galaxy Nexus and am now wondering if I'll also get the $100 at&t bill credit for getting it on Next (promo from at&t is thru 10/31).

I have a real good friend who is actually the lead rep at our samsung store. Been friends with him for about 4 years, since he sold me tons of phones as an AT&T sales rep. He says that his information has the Edge being actually available by black Friday, but they arent sure when pre-orders will start. That being said, the bad news is this. He says good luck getting one. Apparently, the way things look right now, it is expected that the carriers will only get roughly 5,000 units so its gonna be tough to get a hold of.
Edited to add: Thats 5,000 units per carrier.

well i will catch hell for this but--
i played with it and 6+ at BB. the screen on the 4 is astounding. speakers did not impress me and no bass. however all i could play was a sammy demo. my s4 seemed a lot better and i played the s4 with and without viper. not a good test i know. just initial impression. i am going to play with both a lot. i always do before buying. will try other music on the demos. it is tough bc of the backround noise in store.
both phones did not seem to scroll smooth for me. this was done by bringing up Google News and scrolling down through all the news links. 6+ seemed the same. they stutter. i may be too critical on that though. my note demo seemed to have some touch screen issues like my nexus one did where touches weren't registered immediately. again may have been me as it is hard to hold the phones with the security attached. reviews i have watched didn't show those issues. so i am taking all this with a grain of salt atm.
i am looking at both as i may take a break from flashing and son and his wife have iPhones and live out of town. he only seems interested in the iPhones IM. Weird I know. but if it gets me more IM time, the better. my next phone i want smoothness and good audio/call quality so when on speaker phone it is not raspy.
at this point undecided. but will test the audio as much as possible in store. my needs for the phone may not include all the features the 4 has. i do give apple credit for running good ui's with only 1gb ram.
both phones seem really nice and it comes down to what works best for each person. i always assumed the 4 was a no brainer, hope so.
this is an honest, unbiased initial impression. i need much more time with both

Yes. I have a line I need to port over.
Checked out the Note 4 as well at Best Buy, screen is fabulous! Will be getting the Note 4 when it becomes available. Did a quick test vs my Note 3 camera. I took a picture of the sign at the store with my Note 3 and the Note 4 and the Note 4 was much better. Also the Note 4 is a tad bigger.

I also thought that the scrolling felt a bit laggy. I think that it may have to do with the demo software that samsung had installed on the device. It seemed to be bogging things down quite a bit. It just did not feel all that fluid, but the iphone 6 plus felt that is was scrolling it a bit better. I do hope that the ATT note 4 will be root soon enough so that I can rid touchwiz of the device.

It could have been me and demos may vary. The S5 was fluid on the demos I used, so would expect same on 4. Thought speaker could be better. Only HTC gets that I guess--
I am torn on the 6+ and N4. Either way flashing will be probably stopping for me. Too much time to keep up on it all with these locked bl's.
I tried my son's iPhone 6 on Sunday. Met him and his wife for dinner. Had my other son call me from inside restaurant and I was outside on speakerphone. Sounded good and screen was very readable in sunlight.
I am looking for smoothness and good audio from one of these two. I know I will never use all the "neat" stuff on the N4. Don't use it on the S4.
Nothing but high praise on the camera. He showed me some photos of a new born, not theirs. Very nice--:good:
Am hesitant on the many apps needing optimized for the 6+
I will probably wait and see how they both go and the Nexus 6. But, pretty sure it will be 6+ or N4. :good:

I feel similarly pretty much across the board except that I'm down to Note 4, Moto X, and Nexus 6. I'm kind of tired of the flashing game, but I want a bit more customization than iOS allows. Honestly Moto X would have been the ideal device had they not skimped on the battery. I'm not confident that it will last a full day for me and I hate having to charge during the day.

I'm a Note 4 owner, bought a XXX but returned to the Note 4

So this is for Note 4 owners like me who decided to try another device, but ultimately return to the Note 4. Somewhere to rant.
My weakness was a Nexus 6. The monster arrived yesterday but after less than 24 hours it's back in the box for return BIB4R. Too big, unwieldy, slower than Note 4 at loading apps, screen not as bright, camera produced circa 2013 quality pictures. Not a winner.

i did same mistake.... i gave it a month but wen back to my note 4
I had the nexus 6 prior to getting the note 4. I liked the device I didn't have lag issues but the battery is terrible. I'm moving on from the note 4 to the LG G4. I feel crippled without root. I don't see the AT&T SM-N910A getting permanent root anytime soon.

I keep looking at the G4. Actually I think it has a great screen too. There were ebay deals for 499 last week. Quite compelling.

I got mine for that price. G4 H815. I think the G4 battery is close to or equal of the note 4 as well. Not to mention perm root with greenify would be nice to have again. My brother in law has the G3 and loves it. Supposed to be here Monday and I'll set it up and I already listed my note 4 for sale which won't end until after I get the G4. I was hesitant to come back to samsung. If I did I should have got the unlocked model. I'm buying all my phones that way from now on.
The international G4 is a six core 3 gb phone. They always get the power house compared to the US models.

Ive done this a few times and biggest issue for me has been the following.
I use my phone heavily for work. I do at least 4-6hours of conference calls a day on it as I mainly work from home. For the business folks on the forum you know most of these conference calls are standard 800 number followed by a pin. Example would be like 888-123-1234 pin/passcode 1234567#. Coming from blackberry days (about 5yrs ago) this was a great feature on the BB that you could format the number correct and the BB could dial the 800 number first, then wait and auto dial the passcode or wait for you to hit a button to auto dial it. Example being say if you formatted the number correct on the location field as 888-123-1234;1234567 or even 888-123-1234x1234567# or 888-123-1234,,1234567# it would work just fine. Even iPhone works on this now.
I find it extremely painful and mindboggling that only (from what I can tell) Samsung has this feature off their native calendar. IF you use say have google calendar, it doesn't work. So that being said, when I went to a OnePlus same issue, it would piss me off that I had to remember the entire number before dialing.
I don't get why this is such a hard feature to implement across the board on android. Same issue with LG, Sony, etc. Ive tried those, every time, those been deal breakers for me.

Will look at this more but tried it briefly, didn't work well. I get people who put the conf call in multiple different formats, some use X as the split between the 888 number and the conf passcode, some spell it out like CONFERENCE CODE: 1234567. Some do it a different way.
Be nice is android in general just follows the same concept iphone and BB do and just look for values in the location field and if its in a few different formats it knows how to handle it from a dialing perspective.

I don't have a Note 4 but did have S4... and for these types of numbers where you have to enter pin, you just save the number in contacts followed by "p", which tells the dialer to pause after dialing the first set of numbers. So you'd enter something like 888-444-5555p123456. Once the phone dials in and it's time for you to enter the pin, then there's an option on the dialer to send out the remaining numbers which is the pin. Try that. Hope it works for ya.
Back in winter 2013, I had a note 3. I liked the note series, but I always wanted something different. Had a coworker tell me of the nexus 6 coming out, and I was all aflutter. Finally, another 6" phone. Well, I got my preorder in, and it finally came in the mail. Yay, a new phone, and a new GUI to learn and have fun with. I kept that phone for 2 days. Thankfully, I sold it on Craigslist to someone who really wanted it, and it allowed me to pay off the ATT payment plan. I think I lost a net of 5 dollars on it, between the case and the phone. I went to the Note 4 at that point. The 4 is an impressive phone. Definitely a bigger upgrade than from the 2 to the 3. I felt like I wasted money on that one. I could have kept the note 2 for a long time, it was a great phone.
I currently have the Note 4. My wife has the G4 and I have to say I'm pretty enamored with that phone if only for the cameras. Samsung needs to realize that selfies are a thing and these sh*tty front facing cameras are ridiculous.

Camera looks ridiculous from pics I've seen and the front cam is what like 8 mp? I missed mine being delivered yesterday I'm p1ssed. Now I have to wait to pick it up monday. This will be my last Samsung phone. I said I was never going back after the last lol. If I ever do it will be unlocked.

Ended up switching to the nexus 6. Don't think I will be switching back to the note 4. The nexus 6 is just smoother and opens apps faster than the note. I have been messing around with both of them for a couple days now and haven't found a reason to go back to the note.

My main question for you is why would you decide to switch to the nexus 6 right now? I was faced with the same choice as you in october when both the note 4 and nexus 6 were new. I went with the note 4 for the s pen, screen, camera, better battery life and removable battery/ sd card. However, nexus did have lollipop at the time. But Android M is just around the corner and surely google will release a new nexus along with it. Why not just keep the note (which has lollipop, although the att one doesn't have 5.1) and wait until whatever Google calls the next nexus?

I just couldn't deal with the performance lag of the note 4 any more or the lack of root. Plus I want to unload the note before the note 5 comes out and the prices for the 4 drop. And I got the Nexus for free so I didn't have anything to lose by trying it out. Now I am glad I did.
I've had the Note 1-3, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Oneplus One. I've played with the S6 edge at best buy. That thing was snappy and build was great. But I don't think I could live with the battery life.
Love the Note 4. Great camera, battery life, ir blaster, I actually use the spen at work to jot down notes, great 2k display, I have the gear vr and I enjoy using it for movies. I've manage to reduce lag by disabling the bloat, animations off except transitions set to .5. Going into every app and making sure sync and error reports are off. Stock everything. Ram usually sits around 2 gb.

Where did you get a nexus for free?

Are you returning your Note 7? If so, why?

I am seriously considering this option due to the poor battery life and scratch issues. Anyone else on the same boat? Just curious to know what made you think about returning the device?

I am on the fence myself. The locked bootloader and an uncertain future regarding even a reliable root has me concerned. T-Mobile is slowly turning into the carrier I left (VZW) for them.
I believe I am going to be returning. I still have 9 days to be within my 14 day return period for Verizon. I am just overall not very impressed with the phone. I came from an iPhone 6s. The only things I have been enjoying more are the larger screen and the fact that it is ip68 resistant. I haven't been using the s-pen as much as I thought I would and the overall user experience for me just hasn't been as satisfying as I had hoped. I am also very, very unimpressed with battery life.
I think I'm going to return the the 6s and wait to see what Apple offers in a few weeks with the new iPhone. If not that, then I'll wait till early next year for another Samsung device possibly. Probably won't pre-order again either. Let others get their experience in and find out the faults of the phone before I go through ordering myself.

This is always the case regarding root and locked bootloaders concerning Samsung phones in recent years, my friend. I have been using this phone without a case and love the ergonomics of the phone. I use it mainly for business and an iPhone 6s Plus as my personal. The S-pen comes in handy with signing docs, smart select is useful, and note taking in general. I have not been happy with battery life compared to the Moto Z Force I put in the drawer for this. Overall I'll more than likely keep it because it suits my needs with business.
My screen has uneven backlighting and there is no other stock still for the phone. I will not keep a defective phone which is why I'm considering it, I am overall impressed with the device considering its features. It's a little slower than some other android phones I have used like the oneplus 3 and the nexus 6P. I think I would keep it otherwise.
SOT > 6h
No battery draining issues.
Phones are as snappy as it can be.
I suggest if you have lag issues, go to your friendly neighbourhood carrier outlet and have your device checked or exchanged.
I am using an international exynos FD model.

The battery life is bugging me a lot. Also, the stuttering is stupid for such an expensive phone. Lastly, it isn't enough for me to leave my iPhone. I know.. i know... the iPhone just worked. Thats it.
Anyone talking Iphone on this thread is looking for a reason to go back to that "limited" format. My device works perfect! The only battery issues i have is with my GearS2
Glass back? Broke in 16 hours. Idiotic and really, gorilla Glass? Dropped it maybe 2.25 ft. From sitting down and it shattered. Thought shattered anything was an iPhone issue. Have had nothing but Samsung since the first note. Never a case issue till 2 feet ago.
Stupid. Glass back? Who the **** cares about the back

Literally just packed my Note 7 back into its box, and being returned later in the morning. Didn't even last me a full week unfortunately. I truly wanted to love this phone, I really did, but the amount of lag that this phone suffers from is just unacceptable for its high end price.

Zero clue how you are getting that long of SOT. That is nuts. I decided not to return the phone anyway, but the best SOT I have seen so far is around 4 hours. Is there anything you have done specifically to increase your SOT. 9-9 hours is really a lot.

I will also hold up and now seriously thinking on keeping the S7 Edge which literally is the same phone... i too had hopes that diminished sadly. For years a fan of the Note's series..
I ve written an article about why the OnePlus 3 is the better phone to get here.. and why Samsung has let us down again.

Before any of you return your Note 7 for battery issues, please try the steps in the following link. I along with most others had these same issues with the S7E and now many of us get 2 days and 9 hours SOT with one charge.

Anyone here upgraded from Samsung S7 / Edge / Note 7

What's your experience so far with the Pixel XL?
I'm considering the Pixel XL but looks like there're a lot to lose in term of features (QI chargin, edge, compact body, SPay,...). I flashed mine S7e with the Unlocked U firmware so the bloatware is minimal and I'm getting >7hrs SOT. Is it worth it to switch?
Takes a little getting used to at first, I had the note 7, I will say this thing is a beast and doesn't lag like my note 7 did, also getting better battery with the same usage.

The carrier's junks are bad. Since switched to the unlock firmware, my S7e feels like a different phone. No lag, run cooler, better battery life...
I came from the S7 (regular) and I've not looked back.
Love the bigger screen, the buttery smooth stock android and the battery is amazing (for my usage anyway!)

Not to mention it's possible at the moment to unlock, root, and do what you want with it. Really liking the photo sync at full resolution.
I've come from the s7e and I prefer this phone. I go through phones multiple times a year and this thing is a beast. Battery life is a lot better than my s7e and I much prefer the plain Android experience. Will hold onto this unless the mate 9 turns out to be epic.

I upgraded from S7Edge. Its been a week now and i am loving pixel XL. Edge on S7Edge wasn't very useful to me...
just pulled the trigger today and ordered the xl, had the note 7, traded it in and was using my s6 for the time being. My s6 has turned into a giant pile, so i can not wait for december 9th when my xl ships. glad to hear some of the positive reviews
Upgraded to a Note 7 from a S7 Edge and to the Pixel XL from a Note 7... Enjoying the phone so far

Had the Note series since version 2. Had to find something to replace my 7. Never thought I would like a non Note device as much as I do this Pixel XL. Next year is going to be a tough choice between second generation Pixel or whatever Sammy calls the next Note. I do miss the AOD and Spen slightly, but Assistant, stock Android, battery life, always listening Google make up for it enough.
The main thing i miss from my Note 7 is the display ...boy nothing really seems to compare when outside .
been a samsung fan from the s1, had every phone, will no longer buy samsung due to locked bootloaders and bloated system even without carrier bloat. every single samsung lags, newer ones not as bad but still lag including the note 7 (bomb edition). the pixel just flies through every task, and being that your on xda, i would assume you like to mod your device, well in that category there is absolutely no comparason

Thats exactly what ive been using , i have an app that sets it to auto just a bit flacky for me it likes to kick off to quickly. When i keep it on i will agree it matches close to the note 7, but i liked the stock adaptive brightness that got into to the high brightness smoothly .... just a little picky i know
No going back to samsung now. I love their camera, i love their crazy fast autofocus but damn the software on the XL, just spoils you. This is truly lag free and an amazingly refreshing experience. It's no nonsense, cuts to the job of getting things done and has really good battery life.
I Had s7e, and the pixel flies in comparison, or at least it feels that way. Camera on s7e seemed to load just a tad quicker, but otherwise the pixel is much better

Yeah. I believe when they release the code for the developers to have third party access this month or next, the usefulness will change dramatically. Instead of google baking stuff in, they set up the AI to accommodate and going to let devs go wild. B4 long we will see it's true power. Also, I was more speaking of always listening assistant that I use often. I HATE Sammy disabling it and forcing S Voice. So I never even used it on Notes 5 or 7. Nice to have the google back.

What did Samsung disable? On my Note 7 and S7e I used Google Now fine and assistant in allo worked fine. They crippled the listening from always on when the screen is off to only allow when plugged in. I doubt it's pushing s voice though. I've never even opened the s voice app since the Note 4. Only reason I don't disable it is because it's tied to the voice to text framework
Correction, only reason I DIDN'T disable it, past tense

How do you like the pixel?

Well I pulled the trigger on a 128gb pixel xl today from google. It is supposed to ship out on May 5th. The battery on my 6p has degraded over time and it's no longer within warranty. So how are you guys enjoying the phone? What kind of battery life are you getting. I am glad to be upgrading to the SD821 from the 810. Is throttling much of an issue?

Hello,
I also had an N6P before the XL. I must say it took me some time to get used to the smaller screen, but after a few days, it's ok. I would like a N6P or N6P like Pixel XL 2 though... Camera is awesome. Screen colors could have been better. You can correct it a bit with a custom kernel and a kernel manager app though. I don't listen to music with my phone, but with the arrival of Android O and the new codecs, I guess I'm going to buy some good earbuds soon.
About battery life? I used to get decent battery with the N6P. Note that i am on wifi 90% of the time. I don't use social network apps. Mostly web browsing, SMS/MMS, photos and some YouTube. Check the attached screenshot. Since last charge, I only used my phone for web browsing on wifi. But with mixed usage, lot of apps syncing and 4G/LTE I guess it would be much less.
Phone stays cool where N6P used to get warm... Not using my phone for intensive tasks either but I can feel the difference. I don't play games, so I have never really experienced throttling with N6P either. Just the phone getting hotter than any other phones I already owned...
Hope that helps...
Cheers...

Best camera, so awesome that even after selling the phone it keeps haunting me or something.
Best software experience. Phone is not as fast as a OP3T or something but I care about consistent performance and smoothness over burst performance.
Incredible call quality.
Very good battery life too.
The only reason I sold the phone was because of the touch screen issue I had on mine and then two other Pixels I tried too. Probably a hardware issue, or software calibration of the display, whatever it is it was annoying enough for me to not be able to use the phone, especially when I play games which require continuous touching.
Came from Nexus 6P (with a stop with iPhone 7+ until I got my Pixel XL) and to me its just an upgraded 6P, I loved my 6P only reason I got rid of it is I am on Verizon and they dont support WiFi calling with it and I built a new house with 9' basement and got no service whatsoever down there. Only thing I would change on the Pixel is cosmetic. Thing isnt the best looking phone but I'll take performance/stable/smooth and solid over how it looks any day. Tried the LG G6 and S8+ briefly and came right back to Pixel because it is still better IMO.
Coming from the 6P and OP3, it's a huge upgrade from the 6P in battery life, build quality, camera and performance, and a moderate upgrade from the OP3. Touch lag is pretty much nonexistent or barely perceptible, software is the best Google has ever released. You'll probably love it.

I'm in the same boat currently. Moved into a new house & my Verizon coverage is spotty. Just found out the 6P can't do wifi calling on Verizon so I need another device. Yes Im definitely trying to avoid the Verizon version due to the locked bootloader. Love my 6p but I need wifi calling and the pixel is really the only option sadly.
Performance is amazing, no lag, scrolling smoothness is great, apps load quick. My only real criticism is the small SBR. But hey, I knew that before I bought it.
My iPhone is my daily driver. I am too invested in its software to Let It Go especially for work purposes. Whenever a new Samsung Galaxy phone comes out I always purchase it to test it out and it never lasts more than 2 weeks before I return it because I just hate the software and the lagginess. I have been eyeing the pixel XL for quite some time but I always got discouraged to purchase it given that it was consistently unavailable, and had long shipping wait times. Anyhow, I recently lucked out and was in the situation where I was able to purchase the pixel XL and took the plunge. All I can say is that the pixel XL is the smoothest Android phone I've ever used. This is really a step that Samsung needs to take if it intends to take away any of Apple's business. I personally care for good Hardware but put a premium on a phone's software. That is why I tend to always use the iPhone as my daily driver. But to be honest I've been using the pixel a lot more than my iPhone. I'm loving this phone. If you took this software and put it on the new Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 would probably be the phone of the year in my opinion. In the time I have been using the pixel, the phone has not lagged one time. I even overloaded the phone with applications and the phone still performs smoothly.

Yea I had an iPhone 7+ between my 6P and Pixel XL and like you said its so smooth and never lags, I use to be a big **** talker to my friends who used apple and after using it I get why people like it, just wasnt for me. I hated looking at 5000 icons and folders etc. If they ever got an app drawer it would be a different story but until then the OCD in me needs android and Pixel is the smoothest one out there. I too try each phone and I last maybe a week or so before I'm back to my Pixel because the new ones just cant keep up and arent worth $600-800 for how it looks.
Today I have a fight with my self about replacing my XL with S8+ , I was afraid of missing the software flexibility and customization and missing the smoothness and lag free software , so I decided to stay with the XL.
S8+ Have a nice screen , but actually using black profile on the kernel editor give me some sense of S8 screen colors .
Any way I couldn't replace the smoothness in XL with the screen colors in S8.
