Factory unlocked G4 (US991) won't download latest software via LG's tool - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The latest version of the LG software for their unlocked phone is US99122a, which is Marshmallow. Trying to use software tool, it connects, correctly tells me that the phone is running US99111a (5.1) but incorrectly tells me that I have the latest version of the software.
I also get the same result trying to update in the update center on the phone.
Now, the plan was to use the phone with Cricket, but they claim that they don't push any updates, at all, even for phones they sell. ..
(TANGENT ALERT I had a rep from Cricket get SO vehement that the updates come from the manufacturer that he got on a three-way call with LG, and had them say so. Oh, was he livid when the LG rep verified that the carriers release their own updates. END TANGENT ALERT)
...So right now I've got no guarantee that I'll get the update if I go ahead and set up an account with them.
Has anyone else had trouble using LG's update tool like this?
I was planning to keep this phone unrooted and stock, but that's starting to seem an unviable option if I want to run Marshmallow.
I'd be happy just getting LG's stock software running. Suggestions for best next move? Is there a pristine copy of it somewhere, and do they have an Odin-analogue?

Sounds like you have the version from Rent a Center. This is causing your troubles. Also they don't know there ass from there elbow when it comes to where the updates come from. My Unbranded US991 just updated from 20A to 21A without a SIM card via WIFI...yet LG was trying to tell me only US Cellular can give me the "OTA update"...even though the phone is not from US Cellular, but from LG. Stupid is a stupid does...I'll never buy an LG phone again that's for sure.

The 11A is what makes it Rent a Center. It would be 10A if it was Unbranded US991 and 10C if it was US Cellular

Hi
I have same problem with this. I searched a lot in web for rom and i found nothing because it's a rent a center phone.
Sent from my LGUS991 using Tapatalk

What needs to happen is we need to get someone with a JTAG device to create a full dump of the US991's individual partitions so we can create a KDZ to flash and/or flash each one individually (if creating the KDZ is possible).
I would contact LG every single day and complain to them for a file to download on the website.

I work for Cricket and he's a moron. If you look in Settings-Networks-More-Moble Networks-Access Point Names and look in the "Internet ndo" APN, at the very bottom the APN Type has the fota tag aka Firmware Over The Air. Updates go through Cricket. Perhaps deleting that tag from the list will fix your issue, but I haven't tested this.

Why don't you use LG UP? Download the 22A KDZ and flash it?

[D850] Lollipop Update not found - Unlocked Phone

Hi,
I bought a LG G3 from Ebay which was blocked on AT&T for using it both in the USA and in Europe (I choose this model for its frequencies supported). It is a D850 model as you can expect.
After receiving it, I unlocked it to run different carriers. I rooted it as well.
I want to install the AT&T 5.0.1 update from OTA (I don't care about root right know). But I have one big problem. I keeps saying that my software is up to date which is wrong. Is it because I'm on T-Mobile right know and AT&T blocks the update ?!
I'm using build D85010d. right know and I never had a software update notification. I've tried to set my phone date to a couple days forward as suggested by Android Police. No luck.
I just want to have the update. After that if it says "you are rooted, you can't install", I will unroot it and reinstall.
Is there any way to update manually ? I heard it's impossible thanks to AT&T.
This is beginning to irritate me.
Thank you in advance

have you found any solutions to this? i'm using an unlocked att G3 as well (although not blocked) and I can't figure out how to update. i even tried to put someone's ATT sim in it and it still said it was up to date, which is completely false. god i hate att. can't update, can't use Qi charging, can't do anything.
I can't update my lg g3(d855) too. It's have the 4.4.2 kitkat and i want upgrade it to 5.0.1 lollipop.
Plzz help if u find a solution to this problem
Same issue .......how to update to lollipop manually ....................... if someone can help it will be appreciated :good:
I am having an issue with the AT&T Lollipop update, as well. I bought a D850 from eBay on KitKat 4.4.2, and when I inserted my AT&T MVNO SIM and checked for updates, it found the Lollipop update. It started downloading, but about 2/3 of the way through, the display shut off (I had it set for 15 minutes). When I got the display back, this action had stopped the download, and it did not continue. Now, when I check for updates, it just says I have the current version. I have run system resets, and tried a different AT&T SIM, but I can't get the Lollipop download again. Does the start of a FOTA download set a flag somewhere that prevents re-downloading?
Only thing I could think of is asking for a .kdz file for your phone and carrier and then flashing that using the LG Flash Tool
unable to update D850
I have the same issue. I have a D850 AT&T version and my is not showing any update available. I am in 4.4.2. Any solution how to update? Please help. Thanks to all
I'm another victim of this. Have someone found a solution? I'm desperated. And sad, I feel scammed.
At&t LG g3 d850
Hi, I'm New in the XDA forum.
My name is Neeraj
And when I saw your post, I found me.
What ever you do please don't do custom rom update.i found that in a hard way.
Like you I too bought one from ebay, at&t logo but unlocked, and while trying to update says it's up to date.
Later I found out I need at&t SIM to update the phone. Because it's only network unlocked not the entire phone. It still got some sorts of at&t restrictions.
Any way I went and rooted, installed twrp, and cm13 6.0.1 then Walla my phone goes into reboot loop and when it finally opens up the network doesn't work.
By the I'm in Australia , temporary residence and I don't have at&t SIM.
So good luck and infact i'm hoping some one will guide me too
I fixed it, don't know exactly if it will work on others.
But what exactly I did was search Google download official stock rom for at&t LG G3 D 850 ( KitKat or lollipop), flash the rom and Walla got my IMEI number restored and it fixed my boot loop problem.
Then backed up by all data, IMEI, etc and then flashes back to custom CM marshmallow. Now all is well. ?
Hope it this will help some one aleast a newbie lie me

Rollback Number

Hey guys,
Does anyone know how we can get the rollback number on our devices? I was reading this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...wngrade-g4-t3197675/post62748057#post62748057
I guess you need to know your rollback number to do a KDZ becasue there is a chance of a hard brick. I tried the numbers highlighted below but it didn't work for Verizon. Anyone know how we could get this information?

This was not written anywhere specifically on the LG G4 forums that I could find. But every flash-addict needs to be warned. It is something you want to know before you continue tinkering.
Several users (myself included) have made the unfortunate mistake of attempting to downgrade their bootstack (for various reasons) to a former version.
DO NOT DO THIS (at least for the USA T-Mobile H811 version, and possibly other USA versions, per @autoprime)! It will result in a hard brick! Specifically, this results in the "Qualcomm QDLoader HS-USB port ( 9008 )" error. Connecting your phone to a PC will pop up with this active connection, but nothing else. There is no download mode. There is no publicly available fix as of yet.
This WILL happen both through KDZ restore as well as flashing bootstack .zips.
Yes, an official KDZ image can BRICK your USA phone, if you try to rollback.
This is in stark contrast to other manufacturers (i.e. Samsung), where the attempt to flash an older bootloader/modem/radio will simply fail, but your phone is not bricked.
I have conferred with @autoprime, who confirmed that with each OTA firmware release (on T-Mobile it was 10H, and now 10N), the version # increments. Flashing a lower version # will result in brick.
I have searched far and wide for a DIY fix. Without the proper firmwares in the right format, as well as the right flashing software, your phone is done and must be sent in for LG repair.
To check what antiroll-back version you are on, input this sequence in the dialer (T-Mobile and ATT) and scroll down:
*#*#244773825625#*#*
Flashing a bootstack version less than this # (through KDZ or zip) will brick the phone. You are free to flash anything equal or higher than the version listed.

If you are still on the original software version 10b, then you have v0. If you took the OTA (or flashed the KDZ) to 11a, then you have v1.
We have a new OTA out now, 12a. I'm not sure what version that one is, but I'm willing to bet it is v2, and you will not be able to rollback if you install it.

Yeah right now I'm stuck with 11A and I'm not sure what I should do. Even though my phone sucks the way it runs, I'm gonna hang in there and wait a couple weeks. See what comes out of 12A.
Well I don't believe there is a way to check or there is a known way of finding it yet. Apparently there is an APK app that reads it. Perhaps we can rip it from another rom and access the APK via the same method we do for accessing the Themes (using a launcher to do custom shortcuts).
The inability to KDZ back to original software is ridiculous. Just like 12A and the broken notifications. How stupid is it to force broken updates yet make it impossible to go back to previous backup/software. I am half tempted to just take the 12A update and force Verizon to give me another phone just to emphasize my dislike for their method of locking the system down.

Downgrading K428 (T-Mobile) to Root it

There is good information on this forum on how to root your k428 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-k10/development/root-twrp-rom-t-mobile-k428-k10-t3582493)
This however, is not possible on anything later than the 10f(?) firmware, due to there being a December 15, 2016 security update.
Firmwares I am pulling from: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-k428sg-firmwares/
My K10 is on the most recent update 20h(?), the only thing I've done is unlock the bootloader. I'm trying to get it down to an earlier firmware version to be able to root. I have tried:
Uppercut with LGUP:
There are two separate errors I get with this. One is when I select refurbish and it gets to about 4% (On LGUP, not the phone) and it says my ".kdz does not allow refurbishing" or something along those lines.
I have tried update as well, and I get an error at 14%(on LGUP, 10% on device) and I get "invalid command response code" (image attached)
I have tried both of these options with 3 different .kdz files, so the problems aren't just unique to one file.
LG Flash Tool 2014:
When I start there is an error saying no connection to the server and no progress indicated on the phone or computer, even after maybe 1/2 hour.
After LGUP, I do have to bring my phone back with LG Bridge Update Error Recovery, but interestingly no data is lost at all so clearly my phone is not being wiped at all.
How have people successfully downgraded their k428 and how do I?
Also, is the k428 the same as the k428sg? I can't seem to figure this out and the firmwares website has slightly different specs.
I have another phone, just really hoping to switch to this one is it seems quicker, isn't running Touchwiz, has a decent camera, more storage... I won't be switching if I can't get this rooted because I have been spoiled by rooted devices.

Having very similar issues, at the moment stuck in a "Firmware update" loop with a T-Mobile K10 K428, after trying to downgrade from 7.0 to 6.0.1.
How are you reverting it to useable form with the LG Bridge app?
It only tells me I have the latest update then goes away.
[nevermind, this part worked]
Managed to bring the device back to functional 7.0 state, but have found no way to downgrade back to 6.0.1.. the regret I feel for allowing the update to happen before rooting the device is indescribable in frikkin words.
Hopefully someone somewhere is working on the root of this computer in Android 7.0, I have 3 of these and I need to do the root to unlock them
last Friday I could downgrade a version 10R to 10G and rooted .
but since yesterday I'm with another to downgrade but am getting error while modem part flashing .
version was 20H , I noticed once upon 20 no possible to back In 10 .

Nice Job!

Does anyone know of a way to extract the FOTA package from the software updates?

Hey everyone, this is a carryover post from the LG G7 Reddit. As of now, there are a number of people out there with US model firmware flashed phones that don't allow updating via normal methods (most commonly PM/Sprint phone flashed with ULM/Unlocked firmware). The only way for these users to update their phone is to flash an updated kdz with LGUP's refurbish option, which causes the phone to be wiped (while it's possible to backup most elements of the phone, it'd be ideal if a normal FOTA update could be obtained and executed on these devices). I used to own one of these phones, before obtaining a factory ULM version. The phone I bought was running the October (10g) update so I was hoping I could just capture the 10i update and share that to users that needed an alternative way to upgrade with the FOTA update.
However, LG apparently has their phone updates in a cumulative/rolled up package (in this case, my phone downloaded this 522MB file when updating, even though I'm sure only a small portion was ultimately needed). When opened with a program like 7-Zip, only one, much smaller file is shown (I don't know if this is actually a kdz file or something similar since 7-Zip is unable to correctly read the header/contents). This could very well be the same file one would download if using LG Bridge (although the PM/Sprint model => ULM/Unlocked converted phones are not detected by that program). I've only worked with HTC/Samsung/Nexus+Pixel-branded phones in the past, so I know little to nothing about LG's packaging and update methodology. Any assistance in creating (or explaining how one might go about creating) a FOTA file that could be sideloaded or flashed with LGUP would be amazing. Cheers!
Hello, updating with lgup doesn't need to be with the refurbish option. There is an update option witch keeps data.
Usually other kdz models can't be flashed on other models (but certainly possible). That also goes for update files.
FOTA updates can't be extracted with simply opening it with a 7zip. Btw how did you get the link to that update?

Thanks for confirming the information about using the update option. Another XDA user, tycrek, was able to do the same with the aid of a modified dll file (which seems to be a requirement for getting official apps to recognize modified phones; LGUP Dualmode is nice too, even if you don't need to touch the dev side). I'm unsure what type of modifications their phone had from stock though (if any).
The used market is flooded with a lot of G7 phones that were originally Sprint models that have had the unlocked/Google Fi firmware flashed to them (there is an active thread here about the subject; one of the most prolific sellers of these phones is even actively posting replies). If anyone is unsure, go to the phone's Hardware Info in the Settings. If the model is LM-G710ULM but the S/N is blank, then it's likely one of these phones. OTA Updates as well as using Google Pay are both unavailable to these phones as well (flashing the Verizon firmware to the phone can supposedly fix both of these issues, however, I didn't know about this at the time and so I couldn't test it before getting a replacement).
As far as my use of 7-Zip, I was hoping that the file was, in reality, a zip file that just had its extension removed, but obviously, that's not the case =). I still want to figure out the format of this file and extract the contents from it (I'm just waiting for some free time to appear!) As far as obtaining the link, I was fortunate, in that my phone was due for an update that had already been released. Using the 1st method in this tutorial, I was able to capture the URL that my phone was updating from (LG seems to be making use of Limelight Network's CDN to give users faster downloads... I'm sure other files are being hosted as well, but I'm not sure how they could be located aside from trying to find a pattern in the naming scheme).

Need help updating ancient pre-production software on AT&T G8

Hi guys. I got a G8 from a friend whose friend's dad is a radio tower engineer for AT&T that got this phone early. It's a prerelease phone (says "not for sale") on the back, and it comes with software that is seemingly far behind what shipped with the public version of the device. It's Android 9 with the December 2018 security patch, SW version G820UM04b. This version is pretty buggy and doesn't have some features like air motion. It seems like the initial software release for the public phone was G820UM10g.
Whenever I try updating the device, it just says the software is already up to date. I've done more factory resets and tried more tricks than I can even recount. Got a fresh new SIM card. Called AT&T and got them to manually push the update to my IMEI (which is correctly registered), waited a day for the update. Tried LG Bridge but it's incompatible with AT&T devices. Looked for kdz files online for the AT&T version that I can flash using LGUP, but there's no AT&T files available (pls tell me if anyone knows of any out there).
I'm at my wit's end guys. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get this phone updated? I'm realizing that I really took the ability to just unlock and flash my old OnePlus for granted

Sorry, forgot to clarify that. I live in the USA and I use AT&T.
On the face of it it's not looking good. There aren't any KDZs for ATT as standard, and you can't update OTA - one thing to check here is the S/N field, pre-production LG phones are usually missing this, which is usually why OTAs don't work.
However, pre-production devices can, sometimes, be cross-flashed. You could try using LGUP to flash a more recent US unlocked build. It is likely to give you the IMPL lock / mismatch / crossflashing not allowed error, but it's worth a shot.
If that doesn't work, your best bet will be to ask your friend's dad to take it in to work (when he can...) for whoever looks after devices for his team to flash it to production as a favour.
