Camera now buzzes like a mosquito and has problems focusing, particularly in low or well lit areas. Do I need to replace the camera hardware itself or is there something I can do to fix? A hard reset & clearing caches did not help.

Mine did this twice, I had too many programs open once and second time I received a call during video recording of newborn meets sister for first time very disturbing to find out after the recording the sound was messed up. At least the video was ok on the baby shot. But the previous the video was shaking also.

Yes, I am good on memory. I agree that the sound is terrible when it does this...Do you still experience this?
Finally, I thought I was the only one. Usually when it starts buzzing I smack it a bit to stop and then I can focus. It's gotten worse and worse though. I'm thinking it might be a hardware issue

No but I did hear the mic making funky buzzing sounds last week and now I'm having battery issues. I'm thinking I may flash my twrp backup file. I need to back up phone first.

I don't think its hardware but it may if you smack it around.
It down sent help I dropped in water last week. Phone got better after the mishap.

I've seen many posts about this around the internet and from what I've read it does seem to be faulty hardware. Not faulty enough that it will cause an issue, but enough that it creates this annoying sound. I've had this buzzing/whirring/mosquito sound (that I can actually feel, holding the phone near the camera) for about 6 months now. I haven't had any issues running any software though. The biggest culprit is using snapchat for me. It happens almost 100% of the time.
I read on some forum(can't remember which at the moment) that if you place a strong magnet by the camera while it's buzzing, the sound should cease. It's not a permanent fix but it's something.

Interesting...
I have deeply considered replacing the camera itself...especially now that the Note 7 is done. I just don't want the hassle of taking this apart.

i'll do somthing in the UI to make a sound .. like a touch tone.. then in a few seconds i'll hear a pop from the rear speaker
anyone else have this issue?
Anyone having this issue?
basically.. does your rear speaker pop when the amp cuts power to the speaker ?
cant say i have this happening on mine
Exactly have the same problem. I didn't notice the hiss though, but definitely heard the pops. But yes when I listen closely I with my ear to speaker I hear exactly what you described: a hiss ending in a pop.

On my other phone (samsung epic 4g touch), it does the hiss/pop/silence thing too, but the pop is much much quieter that I can only hear it if I put my ear right next to the speaker.
However on this galaxy nexus it is loud enough that I can hear it from 1-3 feet-ish. Its especially noticeable in quiet areas.
I'm considering return it because of this

For me it's not a big problem. I notice it but it is not annoying me. I hear it only when I'm concentrating on it. BTW just applied the new update and that didn't fix this issue.

I'm pretty sure this happens on all devices. I have this on all my phones, navigation units, clock radios...
Me, too, I just checked all electronical devices I have and they all have it. Though, it's so quiet, that I have to get closer to the speaker than I normally ever woult.
Is that different for the GN? Is it louder than "normal"?

my GN is defiantly louder than normal. I can hear it easily from almost any normal usage distance. It almost sounds exactly like the normal touch sounds so that I get confused and think I clicked on something
pretty sure it's the amp cutting off power to the speaker a few seconds after it makes a noise
Mine does it too. Simplest solution I've found is to turn off touch sounds. That way the speaker doesn't keep turning on and off so often. I would normally turn those sounds off anyway because they are annoying, so it's no biggie for me.
Only time I have noticed a speaker pop is going into recovery
Mine does this too.
Glad its not just mine!
yeah, i thought i was going crazy last night too, but i definitely have the same popping problem
its not very loud , but its there - i heard it when i was in my room cause it was dead silent. Whenever i played any type of sound file, you'd hear the little pop afterwards from the speaker =/
it kinda sucks with touch tones for the dialer cause it happens everytime you push a number
i wonder if google/samsung knows about this and if it can somehow be fixed through a SW patch just like the volume bug haha - cause this LOOKS like a HW issue again
Yes, I certainly also get this, my hearing is very sensitive, so something like this is very noticeable for me.
Even "turn off touch sounds" doesn't seem to stop it.

I would guess it's just something as simple as properly muting the output to the speaker before turning it off. This should prevent the voltage spike from affecting the speaker.
Its not unique to the Nexus - it can potentially happen to anything with a speaker that isn't muted before turning off the amp.
So, as this issue has been reported many times and even apps created to fix this problem with no luck, Now i've actually found a proper way to fix this issue... take a dry toothbrush and gently poke the bristles through the little holes on the back... thus fixed my issue and now my phone is super loud again! =) Hope this helps with anyone who has this problem

Done this to get all the crap outta my Ear piece also! Can see the LED and Now it sounds like my missus is shouting at me on the phone (not sure what i have done now lol! )
Any ideas for why my internal sound (through headphones) is so quiet?
Its not too bad through stock player, but any other player I use makes it sound like they're whispering. But stock player doesn't have a play by rating feature.

Well, other than the Volume+ app on the market, maybe your headphones are knackered? or use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790558, you know the drill, flash via recovery, that should increase volume... i've got mine always on 40% as any higher and my ears bleed, and I'm deaf lol!

Hello
My Note 4 gets pretty hot when using camera (either when camera is just on, taking just low as 3,4 pictures or using viber, Skype or tango). Phone becomes hot in back by camera and screen area itself. Once camera goes off everything it's back to normal in a minute. Does anyone else is experiencing something like this? I asked this on another thread but this way question might get more attention and more answers.
I just realized next: when I turn the camera on and put phone next to my ear there is something like static sound coming from speaker. As aoon I exit camera, that sound is gone... Can someone try this?
Thanks!
Wow... OK. Did anyone at least try to test for this sound and press home button while holding phone by the ear?
Update:
I just got of the phone with Best Buy and they confirmed couple cases of Note 4's overheating as well. Well, at least I am not the only one...

Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem. After open the camera and take few pictures the phone back and especially phone screen will be very hot. As soon as shutdown the camera and keep phone not used about 10 minutes the phone returns to normal. I was looking for the advice how to solve this problem but so far could not find any answer. if you have any good solution please post here for reference. Thanks
coming from the htc m7, im not used to my photos being post processed on the fly. i didnt know the first set of photos i took with the note 4 it was processing filter effects on my face which leaves me nice and smooth looking.
so im thinking all that extra cpu power during camera use for on the fly post processing could be heating your phone up.
maybe scrounge around the settings and try to turn all that off??
mine doesnt overheat, the screen does get brighter when using the camera as with most phones ive used which ive always thought was on purpose when using indoors and outside.

Yep very poppy speaker at near full volume, sou D's like the membrane is cheap.
Not impressed with it playing music or videos yet, most of the time I use BT audio I'm my car anyway.
for the price i would have thought the speaker would have been better quality, which my note 7 had, on the plus side the Pixel XL wont spontaneously combust
The headphone/earpiece speaker is made of cloth, not aluminum or plastic mesh.
No issues here. Played about a dozen songs from Google music on full volume with no distortion. Surprised how full sounding the speaker is.

If it plays ring tones and basic YouTube audio I'm good. I never run it at full volume. When I listen to music it's over Bluetooth headphones or a Bluetooth connected Klipsch Gig speaker.

Audio coming out of the speakers on mine sound awful and that's at less than half volume. Apps have a crackle to them and you tube videos as well. Dunno if I should request replacement or not
My xl speaker sounds better than my old note 4and Nexus 5x. So much so, that it could substitute for a cheap Bluetooth speaker. Watching a video on 6p sounds better as it's stereo and has good treble, but in general the pixel is louder and much more fuller. It makes the 6p sound tinny.
The issue I was speaking about almost seems like the phone is struggling to load the audio in sync with any video or animations going on in a app. You would say it's not powerful enough to do anything other than be a phone. I've already called and requested a replacement phone, should be here early next week then I will have two XL's in hand to see if I'm fact it's the phones speaker or if it's a software issue.

I haven't had any issues with crackling until 20 mins ago. Watching a YouTube video and about 5 seconds in it started. It was at max volume and now I have to reduce it 2 clicks down to go away. I'm going to call for a replacement tomorrow. Once it starts the speaker must be replaced.
No problems here. It's actually louder and clearer than the speakers on my 6P. Which already has a bad emmc chip after only 10 months. All I care about is notifications though and this phone plays them very loud. :good:
Mine is not experiencing this issue. I've tried the reproduction with the piano app you have mentioned and I do not hear static or poping noises. I will admit I wish the speaker was louder, but I believe this was by design, and does not represent a production quality issue.

I'm in the same boat as you. Did you get your replacement order in? My speaker just started cracking and when I contacted support through the phone they sent me a list of software fixes which of course didn't do squat.
Like many, my phone has the lower speaker distortion on speaker phone calls and general audio, like YouTube, when turned up high. If you are rooted, I have found a solution to all situations except speaker phone calls.
I installed Viper4android through Magisk, kept all default settings except under the Speaker phone section. I checked the Master Power and FIRequalizer boxes, chose Rock setting under FIRequalizer, and modified it to lower all of the levels from 250 to 4k to -6.8 db.
This removed the frequencies that caused terrible sound from the lower speaker, including when Google assistant speaks.
Does anyone have a solution for when on a speaker call though, as this has no effect there?

Tbh, I'm pretty sure everyone has it to a degree. Either your volume isn't cranked to 100% max, or it's not as prevalent but I do think it affects all devices. There are several lengthy threads with heaps of people confirming this. I just rooted my phone so I'm going to give OP's fix a shot.

I had insane distortion on my previous phone. Any volume above zero and the speaker would buzz around like crazy. If I run my replacement at max stock volume (No audio mods installed), I get clear sound with no distortion. So either I'm lucky or the issue isn't as prevalent as you think

Well, the thing is that it's not noticeable in ever scenario. You need to play audio which has someone speaking in it. A good one would be any linus tech tips video where he's @ CES. Playing music and a lot of other types of audio doesn't bring it out.

I initially tested my speakers at full volume using audiocheck and a bunch of well recorded tracks. I just tested with a couple of Linus videos from CES and the results were the same. There is no perceptible distortion/buzz when compared against my laptop speakers and headphones. If there is any distortion, the only way I would be able to know would be to set up a measuring rig and check what the THD is on these speakers. and compare it to any specs that Google has put out if they did reveal that information in the first place.
It is true that a lot of devices have terrible speakers and there are loads of people who have complaints about them. That doesn't mean every phone is defective. 6 defective phones in a row means you either have really bad luck, all your replacements were from the same production batch that was terrible, or Google QC is really ****ty.

In terms of batch, you're probably right. All 6 have been either from October 16th or November 22nd. I suspect that not many of the black 128GB versions are selling. I received this latest one on tuesday and it's build date is October 16th.

What version of Viper did you install? I see like 3 different ones. I tried your settings, but I don't notice a difference. Also, the -6.8db doesn't stick. When I exit the app and come back in, I see that the levels have all gone to -7.
