My friend is about to get his OnePlus 3 in the mail. I was looking for a ROM that would suit his needs. I want a ROM with OTA functionality like CM updater. One that notifies when an update is out and can download said update. Requiring manual flashing is OK as he could figure out TWRP or FlashFire. What is important though is that the updates can be dirty flashed. Stability is crucial. If the ROM isn't rock solid he's not going to like it. I was looking at two ROMs in particular. Sultanxda's CM13 and Resurrection Remix. It looks like Sultan's CM13 is really stable and great for battery but currently lacks camera features. Although, as long as it takes decent pics and videos that's good enough. My friend can wait for updates. RR has every feature under the sun but I'm confused as there seems to be two different versions. The official one and the BJRR one. The BJRR one sounds like it doesn't really like dirty flashes for updates. Also users have said that it only works with the pico package of Open GApps. Is this the case? It looks like the official version doesn't come with OOS camera but flashing it every update is no biggie. I downloaded the EX version linked on the forum for the official version. Is it an Aroma installer where you can pick between the two different versions (BJRR and official RR)?
Any advice would be appreciated. Let me know your experiences with these ROMs if you've tried them.
Thanks,
Andy
What exactly is it he's missing with stock OOS?

I am looking for a ROM that runs android nougat. I have a rooted device but have never installed a custom rom on it. Right now, it is just running 6.0.1 MOB30X, the latest update on stock. I want to upgrade to Nougat, but I don't really know what options are available. I want to keep my device close to stock android, like it already is. So, if someone could tell me what ROMs are available and which ones are the most popular and best?

If you want to keep close to the stock android the closest is the official lineageos build. All others have added features which may or maynot affect batterylife and performance.
LineageOS or AOSP will get you what you want.
crDroid 7.1.2 v3.3
Just fantastic! Add the elementalX kernal and buttersmoth experience!

In my experience no version superior to "Android 6" works well "out of the box" with full working applications of estreaming like youtube, netflix, etc .. and sometimes problems with root, my recommendation if it will be "Android 6" is still better Stock rom. Neither lineage nor much less AOSP and any derivative.
Newbies to all these updates and ROMs releases. I spent a good amount of time dumping various ROM.
I tried Lineages, Droid, Resurrection Remix. I think ASOP is Lineage?
All the ROMs above works well but I could not get gapp to going. Keep saying wizard error when starting up. Gapp is basically play store.
I tried that mini gapp bean and the open gapp 7.1 pico. They both fail during start up. It was trying to run the google apps wizard and keeps failing.
I ended up with Nitrogen-OS-flo-20170316 ROM. Let this ROM flash first than, reboot, go back in recovery mode and flash the Gapp 7.1 pico. This was the only way I can avoid the wizard failing during startup. Everything works except Latest netflix app failing. Get the apk from mirror apk and make sure you get the older apk version 4.2. Don't get the newest 5.x netflix release.
Resurrection Remix ROM looks cool. It's suppose to be faster than Linage.
Since everything is work for me with Nitrogen. I'll stick with nexus 6 Nitrogen for now.
or until someone prove me wrong. Or know why I am having all sort of issue installing Gapp pico on Resurrection Remix, Linage, or that Droid version.

I am not sure if Android 6 or marsh mellow is the best. After I flash with Nougot. It's a lot faster. Loving it.
Hi guys, I just bought a Nexus 7 and i updated to latest official 6. Then i find out OTG Support doesnt have support for exFat, only FAT32. If i try to do Nougat, will it gain exFat support for OTG?

This depends on the rom or kernel as much as whether it is Nougat. LineageOS supports exfat and has clear instructions on how to install it.
Wifi only Nexus 7 (2013) (Flo) https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flo/install.

Hello, I want to switch my phones OS from ViperOneM8 to a Nougat ROM, but i had a bad experience previous months with it. As i searched, I've found Ressurection Remix and Xeno HD, both of them running on Android N, but they were laggy and had issues with the SD Card - It was instantly injected and ejected. And i want to know, if there are some decent Android N ROMs for this model of One M8, or maybe the previous roms which I talked about have got better and thes issues diaspeared?
LineageOS seems to be the best IMHO.

That's interesting. I have also test drove all the latest current Ron's we have and it ended up being the best with my setup.
As we all know, performance is going to vary widely depending on what apps you have installed etc etc, so I'm telling you this for no other reason than to say that it's not junk across the board at least for me. It may have to do with your setup because the ROM itself out performs the others in my situation. Good luck and take care!!

Ok I'll try it one more time , but it can also be the problem that, maybe they do the custom rom only for original m8 not also H/K version. I know that it is a nonsense, but maybe. BTW what should I install Nightly or regular version, and should I get GAPPS or there are already installed GAPPS ?
I have installed Ressurection Remix 5.8.5, and i managed to run it well, but i have a little problem , apps which need internet connection crash after a little time from starting them. /they seem to start, showing a black screen, after what the system returns a message where is written that the app is not responding. whta can be done?
Resurrection Remix has no lagging problems
I bought this device today.
I got it because I wanted to get into custom ROMs/Root.
Is there anything I need to know about this phone that will be helpful? Tips & Tricks?
Also I hear talk of Lineage OS vs Oxygen. Which is better and why? (Please don't be LINEAGE OF COURSE FTW, I want reasons. Couldn't find that anywhere)
Should I chose Oxygen beta 8.0, or the Lineage beta for 8.0?
Coming from an LG V10 (AT&T) where I couldn't modify it for ****, and broke after a little over a year (LG Bootloop issue)

The ROM you want to use can only be your decision based on what features you want for example if you want loads of tweaking features then I'd suggest resurrection remix and for the very latest android version then oxygen OS or lineage 8.0 both are good in their own ways you'd have to check the description to see which suits your needs , one big tip I can give you though is to always use the latest blu_spark recovery because its been modified to support a variety of ROMs and if your a flashaholic like me then always perform a nandroid backup before switching ROMs its simple advice but can save you loads of time if you don't like the ROM you've chosen and obviously before trying to unlock the bootloader via adb then enable developer options and enable OEM unlocking (some people forget) good luck and enjoy this wicked phone...

Ah ok thanks for that blu_spark bit, I was just gonna stick with stock kernel, but now I am seeing the benefits of custom ones.

Xceeder was talking about recovery, not kernel. Since this phone is new for you, certain idiosyncrasies of this phone must be learnt. One of them is the recovery. Ofcourse official TWRP is there but it will not work with many custom ROMs. One of the best recoveries for this phone is made by bluspark who is well-known for his kernels. It is that recovery which Xceeder was talking about. I also use the same.
As regards ROMs, apart from what Xceeder stated, if you are satisfied with a smooth and battery friendly ROM, I can recommend VertexOS. But it will not have any bells or whistles. Another battery friendly and smooth ROM with some tweaks built-in is PureFusion. Both these I have used. But if you need many tweaks, go with Xceeder's recommendations. As he said, ROMs are a personal choice and what I like, you may not. So read about a few, flash a few and finalise.
Advance wishes for a happy experience.

Ah ok only reason I said kernel was because [kernel] was the first thing that came up when I typed in blu_spark.
Isn't there a better way to install stock based custom roms that uses Aroma installer other than changing TWRP back to an old version such as 3.0.1?
There is no possible way that Aroma installation would support on klte due to some issues. Sorry.

Well, do to the Facts, in which, using "Aroma" to install a whole Rom is not supported. This has not been fully supported from just about the beginning. As of Recent, early 2018...It was not being updated for really doing this! Also, As of today, I really have no clue why one would Need it, to install an App. Or Rom!!??!!?!
Now, knowing this, YOU pretty much Answered your Q! Rolling back to an older TRWP, would do the trick (I am not sure which one did ..at this time..been a while since I used Aroma..)
One would have to Roll back or use a Different and older Recovery Build. Seeing that you have asked this, here on Galaxy S5 thread. There are many older Recoveries, that "Did" Support that feature. Would have to look through the Threads.
Second, I am aware of any "...stock based custom roms ..." Really can't even think on one off the top of my head. There are other ways ( look through XDA- Galaxy S5 ) to install a custom Rom (Free-Droid) But again, Aroma was not, really meant to do a complete Rom (Yes, Google does have Apps, in which, one "Could" use Aroma, However, that is Installing "Their" Stuff.) Really not doing a whole Build! I Would actually Question a Rom, (Now a days) that would be installed that way.
Hope this helps you. Just trying to answer you Q
So I came back to the forum after 6 months and was pleasantly surprised by the number of custom roms available now. From the few (currently trending) threads I checked out, I see that either there are still some kind of bugs are still lingering or the dev abandoned the project or the thread was closed or ... I think you get the point. For this reason, I'd rather stick with the official stock rom but I never quite liked the bloatware (both mi and google) and google tracking. To maximise performance and battery life, I wish to clean my rom of all of these stuff or, if possible, install a pre-configured one.
I have some questions though:-
1. Best way to debloat?
Yes, I have tried adb uninstall command when I first got the phone but for some reason, that didn't work. I saw a recent guide on the forum for this purpose that I could try later.
2. Any experience with microG on MIUI?
I don't know if it's possible/working on MIUI roms since this is my first Xiaomi device.
3. Recommended custom ROM?
I may have missed out on all the good stuff during my absence. If you could recommend a rom you find the most stable and clean, even if it is AOSP, it would save me a lot of time.
Look, you are probably going to tell me that I could have done a bit more search on my own before posting here. The thing is, I have returned to the whole modding stuff after 4 years so lest I might break/mess up things, I deemed it more reasonable to ask here.
Hope someone sees this. Thank you.
You're looking for the exact same thing I did.
For me the solution was lineageos with microg, magisk, fdroid store + aurora store.
Lineageos has some minor bugs for me, as well as cameras not working properly.
Reason for most bugs in the most roms is probably that they are based on Android 10,
the devs will probably be able to solve all the bugs as soon as Xiaomi releases miui 12 for this device, which will be based on Android 10.
What you are looking for is probably miui EU rom.
You can easily debloat most of the unwanted sofware with "Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot tools".
Your problems with ADB probably has to do with SU priviligies.
If I remeber correctly you have to use Xposed framework in order to get microg running on miui, I could be wrong on this!
Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks! I am more inclined to use vanilla Android than MIUI. At least now I know my desired setup is within the realm of possibility. Will surely give LineageOS a try.
