Power button does not work - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot lock or wake up the device. HOWEVER, double tapping the power button works. Does anyone know what's going on?

sounds like you installed an app/xposed module/rom/kernel that might be responsible for that, or at least one of it's settings. is that possible?

My phone is completely stock. No mods of any kind.

did you enable "press power button twice to open camera" in display settings? if so, disable it and try again.

Disabling that feature results in a completely useless power button.

What button (besides power) wakes 8525 up?

Guys - the only way I can bring my 8525 out of STANDY is with the power button. My "KeyLock" is set to "Lock buttons if device is locked" but its NOT locked yet, just in standby. The only button that can get it to wake up is a quick-push of the Power-Button.
I remember an app being on Black 2.5 that said you could push ANY button to wake it up OR another option of only the Power Button, but I can't find that on Black 3.01. I think it was under the "Personal" menu list.
I'd like to wake it up with the green-phone button or with ANY button, but that doesn't happen. Am I missing something - how are you waking up yours?
Thanks.
Did you try Settings>System>Key Lock?
Select the "don't lock any buttons"

Maybe the button assignments are set to <None>. Check Start>Settings>Buttons
Running Black 3.0, my device can be woken using any button when set to the setting you describe (as per normal behaviour). Sorry, doesn't help much I know, perhaps its a 3.01 thing.
And mine cant. so strange!

Thanks - Yes, I have it set to "lock buttons if device is locked," so I would think that would mean any button could turn it on, if its not locked, but thats NOT the way mine is working. I ALWAYS have to hit the powerbutton to wake it up. I'll keep looking, but I'm sure there was a 2nd small app that had something to do with this, but its just not in 3.01. Thanks again.

Home Button to Unlock

I apologise if there has been a thread on this but I have searched and all i could find was about unlocking the carrier.
My problem is that I can't unlock my S3 using the home button, I'm not sure what happened but it just won't work. The button functions perfectly and I can still use the power button, but I have an otterbox and it is rather annoying having to press that button.

10 or 10.1/10.2?
There's a setting directly in cm10.2 for that. Look under Settings > Buttons (in the Device section)
Then you should see "Home button wake" there, make sure it's checked.

Disable Power Button

HI guys,
My power button is not functioning right, so I want to disable it. I thought that there is a file for the power button mapping in system/usr/keylayout from other device thread, but i can't find power button related file. only soft buttons.
Can someone please help?
Thanks.

Now how would you plan on turning on the phone with no power button???
Look at this thread for a possible fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2479834

I partially solve it. It's only disabled when the OS is booted up, so when the phone is off, I can still use the power button. The file I edited is Generic or something in System/usr/keylayout
But another problem is that long press (10+ sec) reboot is still not disabled so sticking power button issue was still annoying me.
However, I kind of got the power button fixed now after keep hitting the power button a lot hard. But I have a feeling it's gonna be back again soon..
Oh btw, CM12 has screen on with volume button feature and double tap notification bar for screen off. So No problem there.

And Cm12 has home button to wake. Only problem can be it wakes up in your pocket sometimes. If your problem is solved, please add "[SOLVED]" to the beginning of the thread title.

Screenshot without 3finger swipe still possible?

Hey, guys. On marshmallow OOS we could do screenshots through the power menu.
This option in power menu seems to be gone now in nougat OOS.
So, since 3finger swipe doesnt work in some apps is there any other system integrated way to take screenshots?
Or do i need third party app for it now?
Volume down + power for a few seconds. Hold it too long though (10 sec) and it will shutdown.

You can enable it in 'Gestures' (where you can enable double tap to wake, draw circle for camera etc)
It should be working, (in settings-gestures), or you could get screenshot by pressing power button + volume down button, it always work for me.

LOS16 bug? Power menu lock down no notifications

I tried multiple LOS 16 devices and the issue is uniform.
When the system is locked in the "normal" way (i.e. by power button instant lock, or by screen-off timer), the lock-screen notifications are normal. However, if the lock-down button is enable in the power menu, and the device is locked from there, all lock screen notifications are completely gone. Looks like the devices was locked in a different way from the power menu lock-down button.
Kindly take a look!
That's no bug. That's a feature.

I found it is new to Pie. I see. Maybe helpful to add a lock button, but might be too much to ask...

Lock down means, I'm scared, someone could take my phone. Someone could force me to unlock with finger print, or read messages against my will.
