Dear all,
How are you? I need help. Could someone tell me how to stop my external sd card being unmounted? It is very annoying and prevents me from performing any tasks properly. Sd card keeps unmounting then mounting on its own.

My wife is having that same issue on her VS985 with the 48A FW(6.0.1). I've called Verizon and they sent out a replacement (extended warranty) and it had other issues. They sent another one and it has the same SD card issue and also the screen goes black on her. Only batter pull fixes it. Today we are getting the next replacement. Hope it works this time cuz I think she'll have my hide if it doesn't.
I'm thinking that maybe the 48A FW doesn't agree with the SD cards. I'm on (rooted) 47A and not issues. She's completely stock. I know it's not the SD card because I put hers in my phone with no issues. I took my tablet SD card and put it in her phone and it has the same issue (the second replacement phone). She's threatening to buy an "if it were a phone" (iPhone):crying:.
Sorry I don't have an answer. Best of luck to you!

My GF had the same problem with her G3. Sent it for repairs, they changed the mainboard. Seems fine so far. For me it was clearly a hardware related issue.
I'm having the same problem since yesterday. My phone keeps unmounting and mounting every SD card i'm putting there. May it be also related to software? I'm running latest Fulmics.
same thing is happening to my g3 running fulmics 6.9 im not sure if this is a software related issue or a hardware related issue. I have tried using different sd cards but it still unmounts
In my case it was unfortunately hardware issue. It's happening on all ROMs as well as on recovery. So i'm not using scdard with my G3 anymore.

Hi all,
I have had my touch pro2 (t-mobile branded version) for about 1 month now. I have come across a pretty weird problem. The device sometimes cannot see my expansion card, it seems to start randomly (4 times in last month) when starting an application that is installed on the card.
Removing the card from the device and placing it back in makes it visible to the device again. Even stranger is, if you then soft reset, the card is visible untill touchflo starts up (and probably starts accessing the card to get the music and pictures etc), the card then dissappears again.
I have till now not been able to determine the cause of this problem, and mostly after hard resetting a second time the problem dissappers for while and the card functions normally.
My question is, has anyone else had such a problem and do you know of a solution? Also do you guys think this is a hardware or software error (or maybe the expansion card is faulty?) and should I return the device to t-mobile to try and get it fixed? I am hessitant to return it, as the error seems random and i cannot reproduce it on the spot everytime.
All advice, comments, suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
Mine dissapears when i turn the screen off while playing music using Nitrogen. Uknown as to why, made a post but no results. Just gonna deal with it for now.
hi, thnx for replying.
I came across your thread, but I do not use nitrogen. Hope you find a fix for your problem soon. It is very frustrating not knowing exactly what is causing the problem and how to resolve it.
Hello,
I've found that I have the same problem when I use the Album application. I've placed some pictures to the card and opened the folder with Album. It opens well, but when it generates all thumbnails, it tries to write them to the file album.cache. It writes an empty file and the SD card disappears from the system.
sounds a lot like what happens to me, I have noticed it with the music tab from touchflo..when it tries update the library by scanning the card, the card disappears. But it does not happen often. For some reason a hard reset sometimes helps and sometimes does'nt. When it does help, it works for a random amount of time (longest has been 2 weeks, then I had to hard reset for a non related prob, and it gave some probs with the card again)
Guys,
This is normally down to a corrupt file/files on your SD Card.
Try backing up the entire card and doing a full format.
The problem is as you say, during the creation of the databases the software is getting to a corrupt file and this causes the SD Card to drop.
All full format of the card and copying data back on will resolve it.
Cheers,
Beasty
i have none of the problems described above with my sandisk 2gb card.
maybe you should check whether you all got the same card.

hi Beasty,
Thnx very much for your reply..I have formatted the card and so far so good. It's kind of hard to fully comfirm that it has been solved as the error occurs randomly. (or maybe it is solved and the next time it happens the card is just corrupt again )
The card I currently have is a class 4 brandless one that was provided by t-mobile with the device. Do cheaper cards have a higher probability for corrupting then the brand name ones? In any case I will be buying a Sandisk at the end of the week, been wanting a class 6 anyway.

Not sure whether its the same problem, but (as I've mentioned in another thread) when I fully charge my device with the power off and the card installed, it fails to recognise it when I restart the device.
I do not have the problem if I charge with the device on, or if I remove the card prior to charging.
Cheers,

Thanks, so far it seems that it solved my problem.
Has anyone else come across the problem where the micro SD card seems to just stop being available to the phone? I'd say maybe once or so a day, anything that reads data from the SD card, such as the music app, stop working. If I try and play a song, it just hangs and does nothing.
I tried a search and somebody in the G1 forum had a similar problem but it didn't really contain any conclusions on what it is likely to be.
Anyone else had this issue? What is it most likely to be, the phone or card?
Thanks.
yeah I've had this occasionally with the camerea and seperately the 3d gallery software I installed.. have no idea why
Yea I've had that a couple of times actually. Just have to turn it off and on again and its ok, but its annoying.
Yeah, rebooting does sort it out, but it's starting to happen every day now, sometimes a couple times a day. If it's just a dodgy card or whatever I'd rather get T-Mobile to sort it sooner rather than later.
hmm a dodgy card.. included with the phone, that sucks
Backup your SD Card data and then try formatting it to see if that helps.
Cheers, will give that a go tomorrow. I might ring up T-Mob tomorrow anyway just to make them aware of the issue I'm having.
If I format it, will I be able to copy all the contents back on to it?

Yes, back it up to hard drive on your PC, then after you have formatted your SD card, copy back the contents from the hard drive to your Removable disk (SD card).
I've had this a few times Took the card out, reinserted and restarted the phone. Seemed to fix it, but it is annoying.
Sorry I can't remember when and how I know this.
But backup the card on your PC
Then format it in/with the phone and this should solve the problem I believe
I had killed one of my 16 GB card in Nexus one.
I found a problem that if i use Win 7 or Vista i must remove the device by using safely remove the USB device. Since now am doing this way i never had any problem.
Word of warning you could simply kill a card if you just remove a device.
My first thought was it has something to do with the USB connection. If you safely remove device in Windows - the phone 'prepares' the SD card.
I was having the same issue. I connected to the PC and mounted the SD card. I performed a disk check on the card and it found some errors which it then repaired. I then unmounted the card
I haven't had any issues since.
I formatted my card yesterday and haven't had any problems so far. thanks for the advice.
I ended up replacing the card. All of the previous advice didn't work for me or if it did it didn't last. I reckon there was a bit of a dodgy batch supplied by SanDisk.
~Since replacing I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever, it used to happen at least every 48hours. Very annoying when you try to take a photo and it tells you there's nowhere to save it.
I've been having problems too when taking pictures, which is really annoying!
And i'm not sure whether this is a related problem or not, but it could be...when trying to receive a file over bluetooth it sometimes says it doesn't have permission to receive the file or something along those lines, could this be the SD card playing up?
I'm on T Mobile, would they replace the SD card?
Not sure if it is the same reason, but I had all kinds of problems including the one you've described.
I'm on Orange, they told me that my SD card wasn't covered by Orange Care (the orange phone insurance). I said I didn't have Orange Care anyway and that surely it comes under the 12 months manufacturers warranty. They said pop it into the shop which is a bit of a drive and would cost me more than the value of a new card to get there.
At the time I wasn't certain it was the card as I didn't have a 2nd to try it with. Given my problem was very intermittent I decided the bother of going into the shop - it wasn't worth it for a £5 card. Now that I've bought a new one that works perfectly, I'm going to head into the shop with the old one next time I'm passing. The problem is I don't really need it replacing now! You could always lie and tell them you've tried your friends card at home for a couple of days and it worked perfectly?! No harm in trying.

Mhh - maybe I've had luck, but I use my over 1 year old 8gb cl6 card from magic/mt3g and never use that win function while unpluging anything (not while data transfer). So maybe depends on quality or manufacturer?

I hate to say it, but it will happen again. Have card reader or other phone prepared, just in case your sd card stops working totally
I woke up this morning on the sight of 'SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem' message on my DHD. I restarted my phone, shut it down then restarted, but the message is still there. When I touch the message, it asks me whether I want to format it, I choose 'yes' but nothing happened. Then I tried to read the micro SD card on my laptop; again, it detects the card but fails to read / format. I tried to format it by both FAT and NTFC (just to check whether it's possible) but after clicking on 'Start,' nothing happens. Windows, then, returns a 'was not able to complete the format' message. (Xtreme 16gb Class 2 micro SD card - but the card itself doesn't have 'Xtreme' printed on it).
The same thing happened with my previous SD card a week earlier (the one that came with the phone, Samsung 8gb Class 2 micro SD card). However, the card wasn't even proceeding to 'format' and wasn't detected by my laptop at all.
What could the problem be? Could this be caused by a particular app that I have installed? I got my DHD on 25th of October, but this problem is very recent, and I had no problems before.
Help me out, please...

Hi sengork,
The software number is: 1.72.405.3
I did a little research on the matter, and it seems as if this problem is since the latest OTA... but if that destroyed the first SD card, I don't know why the second one got damaged, too?
That's the thing. Most folk have not found out whether the OTA update (which you seem to have) causes only bundled Samsung SD cards to fail or whether it'd cause all cards to fail.
You might be the 1st example of the OTA causing failure on other SD cards. That is assuming that card didn't fail for some other non-OTA related reasons...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yes sengork, I haven't found anyone else to have had 2 of their SD cards destroyed by the phone.
Common when both 'frying' incidents occurred;
i. happened late at night, when I was asleep (not using the phone for a long interval of time)
ii. had an unread SMS (had Go SMS installed)...
Did the Xtreme card happen to come with one of those 'lifetime warranties'? How much was it?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah, it came with a 'lifetime warranty.' They have replaced the defective card and gave me a new one. It cost me around USD 30.
Well, today, my 3rd SD card has stopped working. I have no idea what the hell is going on...
It don't have to be broken....
Read this - I do not have a BB phone and to be honest - I have no clue what it means but might be helpfull... check this

For solutions on doing this with the DHD would be nice
Edit: can confirm in a BB - BlackBerry phone I was able to format the SD Card without problem and it is now accessable from the DHD again - issue fixed

Hi guys,
I've seen this issue addressed on forums for other devices but didn't see a thread for it here.
Anyone else experienced this before? Constalty getting an error message for "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed". It's a class 4 32GB SD Card, it's installed securely in my GS3 in an Otterbox case, running on my rooted stock JB device.
I can usually access the SD card data after a few minutes but then often when I wake my device still get the same message.
Do I need to format the card??
I had an S3 that initially reported this error. It eventually started ruining sdcards.
AT&T eventually ended up giving me a new one.

Anyone have any further input on this? Earlier tonight, mine gave me the same warning. (Also installed securely inside an Otterbox case, running stock/ non rooted). I just popped the card into my laptop and my computer doesn't see it. It really looks like the card's ruined and everything on it is gone. To say that's not cool is an understatement...
Mine started saying it's ejected last night, also in a case, randomly saying it's back. Still works fine in a pc. Assuming it's the slot and not the rom...poop. guess I need to Odin back to stock and try to get a replacement.

Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying, this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the media scanning process.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card, and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdcardmonitor
It might be a bad sd card, i used to get that error on another phone when using a certain sd card but when i tried another one it worked fine. Maybe try another card see if you get the error.
Apparently sgs3 have problems with SD cards anyway

I had this happen to my friends phone the other day. Best thing to do if you can't access the information may be to run chkdsk /r which will check for bad sectors and recover any readable information. Move tour info off the card and try to reformat to fat32

So yesterday my sd started to randomly keep unmounting itself, however it does mount back itself too but this keeps happening and is interfering with many things such as listening to music. I am on ChupaCHups 4.2 and Ive tried Bliss Pop and the same happens. This happens especially frequent when i try to do anything on titanium backup
Oh, that's a fun one. I've seen this be everything from a loose SD card to a piece of lint, to a failing SD card. Sometimes formatting can fix it. Or a can of air.
Good luck!

Whats a piece of lint? SD cardd not the problem here. And I guess its not really loose
I don't have a ready reply for that philosophic question.... What is a piece of lint? What is a man? Do I exist? You got me.
So how are you certain that it is not the card? Does it work flawlessly in another device?
It can only be so many things:
Physical obstruction or loose mounting
Bad hardware (possible the card or the device)
Software somehow calling an umount then mount (not as likely)

Hardware Problem
I was having the same problem on my Verizon LG G3.
I found a way to fix it; it has only been a few hours since the issue has stopped but if you want to try this hardware fix go to this thread on the forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...0-g2-g3-g4-t3452133/post70158398#post70158398
Read the disclaimer posted on the thread and read the information posted by me on the thread, there are some step by step instructions on how the problem may be fixed based on what I did to fix my problem. If the problem is the same one that I faced it may work; I cannot guarantee it but it may work.
Good luck
This is an old thread but I had the same problem with the external SD card unmounting & found the solution. TricksterMOD was misbehaving & causing the external SD card to unmount. I fixed the errors on the SD card by plugging it into my PC & fixed the SD card file system. I disabled Trickster MOD on my G3 & the SD card is fine. Funny thing is I've made no significant changes or updates to my LG G3 for a year, it just happened.
Check to see if you have any tweaks for the file system or memory and remove them. I hope this helps someone.
