Amazon fire storage full - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have moved all apps over to sd card that I can. I only have 650 megs left on local storage. I have used esfile explorer to scan and clean files and recycling bin. I do not have pictures , music etc as those directories are empty? Any ideas where to look to cleanup more files.
Thanks

maybe this nice howto from aftvnews is something for you

Thanks but there are no files in /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files

enable view of hidden files !
inside /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files is the folder .kodi
folders which have a dot at the beginning are hidden

And then what..?
First, cybero2912 is right - that all of Kodis data in those folders is stored in subfolders that are hidden (using the .dotname folder naming convention).
But. Kodi, over time amounts quite a large number of images/thumbnails and stores them in cache. Especially if you use streaming Addons in Kodi. There are tutorial out there on how to do that. If your Kodi databases aren't stored on the device locally anymore, you will experience more latency in Kodi overall.
If you don't - and the Kodi image cache gets huge, f.e. because you have a very large amount of Movies that you manage via Kodis collection feature - the solution is to move this data to a NAS (or if you were using the AFTV, a connected USB stick f.e.).
If your image cache has grown largely because of your use of streaming addons, you cant delete those images via a filebrowser either, because Kodi references them in internal databases and as soon as you delete them they point at blank - causing Kodi to not show thumbnails anymore --
so the way you actually tackle this is - is with the use of some tools.
The first one that is widely used to clear the image cache and then reset the database entries is called "Raw Maintanance". You can find it on google.
The one I mainly use for this purpose is texturecache - which is a command line tool - that deletes images and entries - if you use it with the (P)rune command option. You can find it by typing texturecache.py into google. Be adviced, that if you have Intagrated a NAS into Kodis sources, unplug it (power it down), before running texturecache - otherwise it has the tendency to time out.
If you are not sure that Kodi's image cache is responsible for you problem - use apps like "Storage Analyser" and "SD Maid" (root) first, to check what is taking up your discspace.
Another popular issue many people have brought upon themselves is to increase Kodis Videostream buffer via advancedsettings.xml "tweaks" they had no understanding on, what that would do. Some "use this setting" tweaks that were shared on reddit and these forums even forced Kodi to cache entire movies - before starting to play them -- so if you are one of the people that fell for those - well, undo it. Default settings are fine. If you have a decent network/internet connection. If you don't well - fixing those "in Kodi" isn't the best idea either.
So the overall lesson here is - "if your storage is getting full" find out why first - then use the appropriate ways to deal with it.

[Q] Screensaver Images

Does anyone know where the screensaver images come from? Are they files on the Fire TV or is it a feed from somewhere? I've done plenty of googling and searching these forums, even downloaded a system dump, but have not been able to find the source for these images.
They are downloaded. There is a bug that if you are using the mosaic mode, it won't cache the images and will eat a ton of network time. I've not tried that option and I don't know where it is downloading from.
Tip:You can clear the "photo" app cache to get rid of the massive 200MB+ of screensaver image caching.
Not sure if this helps or not, but you can designate a folder from your amazon cloud account to be used for the images.

Thanks for the info. There was 330mb stored in cache and was happy to clear it. I went into the screensaver options and turned it off. I am using [LAUNCHER] XBMC for Fire TV (Root) , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392, as my XBMC launcher and see no need for it to be on.
There should be at least one app that will work on Fire TV for making a custom screensaver with your own images instead of bloating your storage space.
I wish there was an Android port or clone for the Windows 3D Maze screensaver, that would be so nostalgic.
..
I'm not looking to replace the images, I want to download them. I'd like to be able to use them on my desktop or my tablet. Is there a feed somewhere I can connect to?
If your Fire TV is rooted, you could probably copy the actual files from the screensaver's cache found in the "photos" app.
All you need is to find the right directory of the "photos" app data files, and look in the folders until you find them.
It will be very easy if the cache is 100MB+ since you can check folder properties for a large filesize.
And don't forget to actually make the screensaver run for a while until you've seen all of the images you want.
Make sure mosaic is disabled because the images will not be cached due to a known issue causing massive download overages for people on limited networks.
Hopefully those are actual images.
If not, maybe there is a way to extract them.
Having root allows you to use stickmount for USB storage so you can copy files into a Mass Storage USB stick.

Okay, for the record you can find the pictures in: /data/data/com.amazon.bueller.photos/cache/
They are in hexadecimal directory names, with a 2048 sub directory.
They are jpegs, but named .cloud.
I thought you needed to change the permissions to get them off the AFTV, but apparently Total Commander doesn't grasp the concept of root access, and I have it checked on in settings. ES File Explorer doesn't appear to have this problem (which is nice, except I really love the 2 pane file listings).
anyways, thought I'd share the info since I'm bothering with removing the pics for someone.
Is there a way to display google photos on the screen saver? Change launcher?

Point to local NAS
Is there a way to point to the local NAS and download your own Photos for screen savers.... happy to root if needed....
Cheers

We enjoy the pictures and try to guess where they are.
Just want something to say where they are. It's kind of a game with us.

Almost 2gb of mp3's in my temp folder???

Today I got a message telling me that my fire tv storage was almost full and if I wanted to delete some apps. Deleting apps didn't put a dent in the space being used so I went into my xbmc folder to find out what was taking up all the space. I noticed there is 1.72gb of mp3 files in my .xbmc/temp folder. Why is it using so much temp space for mp3s? Is there a way to fix this so I wont have to constantly delete the mp3s? I created an advanced settings file to move thumbnails to external drive so thumbs aren't an issue. I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to xbmc although I have had it installed on my pc for while but with tb's of space on the pc I never had to worry about how much space xbmc is using.

Install the maintenance tool addon then open it, select general maintenance, and clear cache. reboot and you should be good.

[Q] Photo Management

I just spent 45 minutes on tech support trying to find out how to manage my photos on my new tablet. After allowing smart tutor control, I was told that the new Tab S won't allow me to use Kies to direct my photos into various folders, nor is there any way to move them once loaded. I am a photographer, and had expected to have over a thousand images for demos. I can't have them all in one huge folder.
Please save me from having to return this and get an Apple - I have to be able to organize my photos. How do I do it?
thanks in advance
Keivn
option 1: The tablet should have Google+ installed, if you set that up and open the photos app (which is separate from the gallery app) you should be able to upload photos to google plus automatically, allowing you to organize and share photos inside google's online photo manager
option 2: You could do basically the same thing with Dropbox, uploading photos you have to their servers and then organizing them on your computer either in the photo manager on dropbox.com, or manually with the file manager on your mac/pc
option 3: use a USB cable to plug the tablet into your PC and copy photos from it manually periodically. If you have windows this should be easy, if you have a mac, you'll need android file transfer which is a program that communicates with the MTP protocol modern android devices use.
thoughts/comments/concerns?
Thanks
I didn't want to use an online method, because I am often in places with poor or no signal, which is a non-starter. I had tried running through simple Windows file manager, and had not been able to see it as anything other than single folder, with no ability to see discrete folder structures in it. However, when I tried that this am, I could see the folders on the Galaxy, so transfer and file management is easy. I'm not sure whether the Samsung tech changed a setting or what else might have changed, but with visibility into the folders via File Manager, this is now straightforward.
Thanks for the help. It's sad that Samsung help couldn't give me this simple fix.
Kevin
There are a lot of simple ways to manage photos. The simplest (but not most efficient) approach is probably just to plug the tab into PC with a USB and use a file manager to manage. Alternatively, you can also use one of several online services like Picasa and a third party app. Many of of the third party apps like PicsPro for Picasa, for example, have an option to keep a local copy of photos on the tablet so you can still view photos without an internet connection.

hi, I can easily do that within the default Gallery app.
I have the T705 version btw. But this shouldn't matter.
in the Gallery app I can simply create new folder(s) and move (or copy) selected photos form any folder to that new folder. I use this all the time. I'm not a professional photographer but I like to take loads of pictures. but I don't like them all together in the default "Camera" folder. I never organized my photos via PC (not on my phones, nor on my tabs).

SM-N910P NK2 Gallery Issue w/ Dropbox Image/Video Sync.

Good mornoonevenight.
I've turned on Dropbox image and video sync within gallery (while not sync'g the entire structure).
I have a tremendous amount of data out on DB. I use it to have a pseudo roaming profile across several boxes (laptop, workstation, and a VM) with a lot of win32 files therein, including toolbars, appdata, etc.
The issue I have is that on the Note 4 I am experiencing substantial latency when opening gallery. I believe that it is directly related to gallery syncing all of the Images from all of the folders on DB (i.e. If I turn off the DB img/vid sync, the latency goes away).
Some 33k items are being synced: https://db.tt/h1Bh5KrZ
I expected it to sync only certain folders (i.e. Camera Uploads, Pictures, etc.} not every folder on my DB...
I tried to resolve with putting .nomedia files on DB, not really expecting it to work. It didn't.
Next, I found where the cache is locally stored on the device (stg-em-0-cloudagent-cache-dropbox) and tried to sprinkle .nomedia files throughout, even to eventually include the root cache-db folder (thinking that it would ultimately break DB image/video sync). It had no effect, I am still seeing where DB is syncing some >33K images, which clearly explains the latency whenever gallery is opened or I navigate up to the root gallery folder.
Two questions:
1) Is there a way in which I can prevent the DB client on the device from cache'g all folders, restricting it to a specific subset of folders from the cloud? OR,
2) Is there some way in which I can keep Gallery from loading everything within the DB cache folders (residing inside of the cloud agent folders)?
I was really hoping that the attempt of .nomedia files in the cloudagent folders would have done it, but alas, no...
Please & Thanks.

If you're rooted on KitKat running Xposed, you could try "Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer". There's a .scanMedia 0 bit file that can be utilized to optimize the media scan. I tried this but since I don't have much media to be scanned, the media scans were already optimized @ 2 seconds and running infrequently so I disabled it.
It could also be drop box issue trying to sync all data and media alike. Read it thoroughly and try it. Hope it helps but I wouldn't know, myself.
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I have had xposed and media scan optimizer installed for some time. It is a nice tool.
Given I have moved most of my media off to the cloud, I hadn't considered trying to use it to circumvent the inclusion of all of the DB folder content. hmm. Will have to give that a go.
Thanks for the idea!

How to delete all photos on Amazon Fire Phone?

I have several hundred pix on my Fire Phone and can't figure out how to delete them all at once - only one-by-one. Does anyone here know how? I can't find anything elsewhere on the net.
I don't remember FireOS, but did you try long-pressing a picture to be able to select more than one?
Use a file manager such as root explorer, or connect to a pc and do it that way?
Thanks. I did try the long press on a picture. It just pops up a "Share / Delete" choice for that one picture.
Deleting the pix via a PC connection is my last resort, as I'm afraid it might trash some internal phone database and leave me with a problem much worse than what I have now.
It's hard to believe that a modern phone that can hold hundreds of pictures wouldn't have some kind of "batch select" or multi-delete... so I'm hoping there's a smooth way.
If you've got play store use quickpic which allows batch select.
On a quasy-related thought--amazon is really bad at this it seems. I think the unlimited cloud photo storage is very generous but no one took the time to polish it a little. Can't seem to organize my pics so got pics of my kids running side by side with random podcast cover art and other things I don't want saved. It all displays on my fire TV screensaver. My wife thinks I'm an idiot just taking pictures of everything and saving them. But the op is right, you have to delete one by one.
Not necessarily. Like @ratbags said, you can install a file manager app (ES Explorer, Root Explorer, or the like), go to the DCIM folder and delete whatever you want to. Also, having a file manager app could help you when you're trying to not connect your phone to a PC as much as possible.
Thanks to all for the answers. I will probably get a file mgr though I need one only for this task. Silly Amazon to provide no simple way to delete pictures.
On the topic of what to delete: the images are in DCIM as noted, and there are thumbnails. I'll try deleting only the images and see if the phone takes care of the thumbs.
Install a file manager app, like ES file explorer, and turn off automatic uploading of pictures and videos if you do anything unwholsome in your life. Linux tricks work in android based operating systems too. I use ES file explorer and put a .nomedia file in Downloads and there is a Facebook folder under DCIM that you should do the same to. Now when you are out with that co-worker or whore, and get frisky with the camera, they won't automatically show up on your Amazon Fire TV in real time. Move what you don't want uploaded into a folder with a .nomedia file before saving your media to the cloud.
