Hello all,
New to this forum, and no nothing about rooting. Will learn. But, please if this is an old question please show me the way to the post about this. I have the Lg G4, it has the chip in it for the next radio app. But I am with tracfone provider. I have emailed them about if they can unlock this phones chip. No response. Have to call. I guess sprint and at&t will unlock it, but for now would like to stay with tracfone. So, I was wondering. Is it possible to unlock the chip with rooting or some how else, that I have not heard of?? You guys can do all kind of things with phones. Is that a real hard thing to unlock? Thanks people.

Sorry buddy, they disable FM chip in carrier variants, but I am trying my best to get it working.
This seems working.

The LG G4 wireless chip is from Broadcom and has a closed-source driver. It is proprietary code. Carrier unlocking or rooting will not enable wireless FM on your phone and the Next Radio or Spirit FM apps will not work. As much as member BAD_ASS or any other member might like to think they can solve it, they can't unless LG makes it open-source or provides their private proprietary coded FM app to the carrier phone model and software version.
If you still want to try and your LG G4 has a locked bootloader and cannot be unlocked officially, you will have to root with the method outlined in this thread: Root ANY LG G4 Variant 100% Success Directives | Root Injection | Less Bricks at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586

I have tried unlocking my discover and I called AT&T they told me that I couldn't unlock the phone because it was strictly for AT&T. Not sure if that is true or not because I looked at unlocking sites and they say that they can unlock the phone but im not too sure how true that is.
Sorry if that was not any help but being as I have the same phone and tried the calling at&t way of doing it thought I would share that with you.
i tried

I tried three different 'pay to get the code to unlock' websites. One flat out said that it can not be unlocked and refunded my money. the other two tried to help me but nothing worked. they all gave the same unlock code, so I kinow that they at least tried to generate one. am waiting to see if I can get refunds from the other two.
its strange - I can root the phone (which I am not really interested in doing), but can't unlock it. Mmmmmm.
Unlocked - WORKING
I've been noticing a few too many people having a hard time with some of the sites someone mentioned. I've had to use one of them myself a few weeks ago for a ZTE Merit from TracFone. Luckily, I was given a working code and move about my way. This phone however, due to limited support has been an obstacle to root and unlock. I am proud to say that I FINALLY have both and even managed to make a working mini-sim after two tries.
Maybe I could help you guys out. I unlocked mine and have it working 100% with Simple Mobile and T-mobile.
All I need is the phones IMEI. I spent hours last night trying using different methods and came really close to paying only to find out the Discover wasn't supported for some reason or another. A buddy came up with a minor tweak in the way the IMEI was loading into the unlocking software to get it working.
PM if anyone is interested. Here are some screenshots.
Hi all.

Hello xda developers
I've looked around, and I see that US990 has no threads, it's left out and no developer is supporting it. Why is that?
We (US990 owner) would like to see some support, and we're really appreciate it.
Thank you everyone for the great work you do everyday.
Bump
I have one and I need a Lollipop rom
Many people do, but I don't think the gurus don't. So we won't get any support from them.
I would like to know if you have unlocked your U990 for use on other GSM carriers like AT&T or T-Mobile or international use?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Artnau, Sorry I don't have an answer for that. Since the phone has to be physically in the US to be unlocked, US Cellular won't unlock it remotely.
But to have an answer, maybe you can write to them on Twitter, they reply quickly, ask them whether the unlocked phones works with other US Carriers.
Best of luck

Thanks for your response, but I intended to ask if your G3 from US Cellular was unlocked as I saw from your device history you have stated it is unlocked. I want to purchase an LG G3 US990 on eBay but don't know if it is unlocked for other carriers use or not. That is why I asked.
Thank you!

No, sorry for that, there is a BL next to it, it should have been all caps, because it stands for Bootloader.
So the Bootloader is unlocked, but not the network.
I have G3 990/22a 5.0.1 and I cant find anything that helps me on clear or deepnet on unlocking, network or bootloader. This phone is looking like a dinosaur. I doubt anyone can help me but any ideas ill give a shot. Thanks
Coming from an HTC m8 vzw variant to the LG G4 vzw variant, I am sorry to see so little dev'ing being done for the G4.
Big Red sure has made it damned difficult I guess.

Any thoughts on this?

Hard to do much dev'ing with a locked bootloader, lol.
The unlocked international models have some dev'ing done with them, but not much has been done besides some custom kernels and a Cynogenmod build.
Full root access and xposed on the Verizon model has provided enough customization for my liking for the time being though.
Lol good try on advertisement, however this phone is factory unlocked. Plus bootloader unlock =/= SIM unlock.

not meant to be a plug. I was just wondering because so many G4 peeps are not unlocked. I just purchased a Verizon certified G4/13B, its locked.

Again wanting to know. That's all. I'm strictly an end user.
Are these things BS.

The Verizon G4 is SIM unlocked already, you don't need to pay to get it unlocked. Just pop in another SIM, edit the APN settings, and off you go. SIM unlocking is different from bootloader unlocking which is why there is very little dev support.

no problem is same on both phones i think there will be no difference between Verizon and Sprint.
is any way to bypass this screen?
Hello all I hope I’m posting in proper place and ask your understanding ?
Having problems doing this and read it a G7+ in sheep’s clothing.
Well the few people I know can’t do it and thought well maybe I need reach out and do myself so let me tell you I’m not super handy but will give this a try.
I’d like to remove the blacklisted imei from the phone and unlock this phone and so far zero success.
I read the Moto G7+ is the same phone and there’s a tool to do this. I dunno if it is and T-Mobile has a real lock in their branded phones so where do I start and how I do it myself?
If true the Moto G7+ and REVVLRY+ are the same what would be the tool I need. and how?
This phone is a PITA and I’m keeping it only ‘cause I think it is possible.
So where do I start ? ?
I understand that this forum is prohibited to support exchange of imei, blacklisted imei devices, we can only restore your imei to its original factory state.
about the unlocking of the network there is a service that does it and don't ask me what it is, why that topic should be discussed in the GSM forums etc..
