Marshmallow: playing videos over lan failing now (mxplayer + es file explorer) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

Marshmallow: playing videos over lan failing now (mxplayer + es file explorer)
This combo used to work just fine but hasn't been working since the marshmallow update. I tried other file explorers and other players like vlc but same results. Any ideas?
Update: mx player error message reads "can't play this link."
If I move the video to the note 5 device it plays fine locally...

Solved! Though I am embarrassed.... turns out the problem was do to "power saving" mode always being enabled. Battery has been horrible otherwise for me but at least I know what was causing it.

Video Recording Help please

I was recording a video with my t-mobile tp2 and all of a sudden my battery died. I assumed the video recording would have stopped before the phone shut off. I guess this was not the case. When I access the file in my phone and try to play it through WM.. it says file not supported. I moved the file to my PC and tried to play it, again video file unsupported. Is there any way possible I can recover that video? Is there a different media player I can try to access the file? Please Help!

The most comprehensive video player for the PC (in terms of what it can play) is VLC media player (free), you can try running it through that...but I honestly suspect that you're going to have to count that one as a loss. The way the video containers work, they have to have to be properly terminated when writing or the data is essentially worthless.

Media link probs

Hi
i wonder if anyone can help, i FINALLY got my media link hd today and am having issues with video playback. The picture freezes every now and then - then restarts, but the audio is always out of sync when this happens. Ive tested dice, vplayer and the internal player with the same problem. Ive also tested on both networks, my 54g and wireless N network (i run two wifi networks).
ive even disabled one network to see if thats the issue.
Also the documents say you can check the firmware and update it with the advance settings, but when i access the settings "advance settings" is greyed out.
thanks for any pointers
hi, audiobookman
With the firmware update: you need to disconnect from the media link to get into the advanced settings.
And about the skipping: try a different file format. MP4 plays fine, but I'm having issues with AVIs so far (only using the gallery playback, since MX player didn't work at all).
I'm currently finding it very underwhelming. Though that my only be my over exaggerated expectations.

[Q] ES File Explorer and NAS streaming issues?

hi all.
when i was running GB i would use ES File Manager to connect to my NAS at home and occasionally stream videos from my NAS to my t989. it would work flawlessly using moboplayer.
after upgrading to ICS, this doesnt seem to work at all. some files might play for a second or two but then just freezes.
i know that the phone can play the file because i have tried playing the same file locally and it works flawlessly. is this an issue with ICS and is there a workaround? thanks in advance.

[Q] DLNA video stopped working - Help please

Can anyone please help me? I can't seem to find this issue anywhere else.
I work in video content creation, and rely heavily on the use of DLNA to push videos to devices from my HTC oneX. Since updating to jb this feature has stopped working on all external devices, with all video codecs and file types.
I use the sense Gallery; I hit More> Select Player> and then select. Since updating the video control screen comes up as normal, but reads 'Stopped' instead of 'buffering' or 'playing' and nothing happens on the external player. These are the exact same files that I used to play with no problems before updating.
I have also tried using other DLNA apps from Play store, but none work.
Having read everything I can find on the problem, and tried everything I can think of with no results, I just tried a full hard reset. However the problem remains the same.
HTC one X
Android 4.1.1
Sense 4.1
The players are a number of different DLNA TVs and computers.
The file types are usually .mp4 or .avi but it is the same with any video file. Photos and Music still play on DLNA devices with no problems.
Other info:
I have always noticed the same outcome with video files that I opened with a 3rd party File App, such as ES File Explorer. Previously, though, DLNA has always worked when opened with the native Gallery. (Sure DLNA is glitchy and cuts out every now and then, but on the whole it works if you fiddle about with things.)
I have noticed that a number of items come up on the Task Manager list when I try to push content. It seems to me that some of these might double up and cause issues?... But I have no idea about all that developer stuff. Task Manager:
-Gallery
-HtcDLNAMiddleLayer
-DLNAMiddleLayer
-Select Player
-View Video
(Sometimes there seems to be a 2nd Gallery launched there as well.)
Can anyone help me? Has anyone had the same?
This is frustrating because it used to work so well and suddenly stopped.
Thanks
Jonathan

[Q] Slow SMB transfers/problems playing mkv's from LAN

In the past it has worked flawless playing 720p mkv files from my home server through WiFi over SMB using the Dice Player with hw rendering, but since quite a while back I've been getting annoying audio glitches in that player with some tv shows (I think it began after an update of the app some months back) and have used xbmc (with some lag due to software rendering). But since a couple of days (weeks?) I've been having big problems playing anything on the phone.
After several seconds Dice player plays for like 1-2sec, then pauses for a while and plays another second before it says it can't play the video, the same with xbmc. I then tried to connect to my smb share (on my Win2012 server) with ES File Explorer and tried to play it both with Dice player and MX player from there but still the same even after restarting the phone.
I then tried the app "bredbandskollen" (swedish bandwidth checker) and saw that the connection to internet through wifi was ok 20-30mbit/sec both ways. Then tried on my girlfriends Galaxy SII and it worked flawless to watch movies with Dice Player from my server through wifi.
Then I tried copying the file through ES File Explorer to the phone and got like 30-50kb/sec and it said it should take several hours to copy a ~500MB file (as opposed to 11MB/s and less than 1 minute to a wired Win8 computer and 7-8MB/s on a wireless Win8 laptop).
Playing HD music videos through YouTube or downloading files from the internet works perfect so it doesn't seem to be an issue with non-SMB stuff, also everything works fine on the other Android phone (and Win8 machines) so it doesn't seem to be an issue with the server or router, so I suppose it's something with my phone?
This is with the rom BugX 5.1 (I can't swear it worked after installing that in the beginning of May, but I really think it did and it did work on earlier BugX versions).
I have since full wiped and installed ViperX 3.7.0 and had the same issues. I then full wiped again and went back to BugX 5.1 and didn't install or Titanium restore anything, but just downloaded Dice player and ES File Explorer, but it behaved the same.
I've also switched the router to the less crowded channel 13, but still the same issues. Really annoying since it has worked before on the same mkv's/phone/router/server...
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?
Edit: Just tried with the latest Skydragon 18.6 and still the same. However I did realize that it worked just as well playing in Dice Player through FTP from the same server and that seems very smooth and fast (even without the audio glitches I mentioned). I just find it very strange that the SMB seemed to get unusable all of a sudden...
