Max brightness and resolution control - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Is there any way to set max brightness and lower screen resolution without going through power saving mode? Everything runs way smoother at FHD and really don't need it at max brightness at any point of time. I can customize them with medium power saving mode on but it also disables always on display and button lights which I want to keep.

Settings/display/screen resolution/pick whatever you want and reboot to get everything sized right. You can then adjust the brightness using the slider however you want.

Max brightness in video's with auto-brightness

Hello.
I just received my ZL and noticed the following compared to my previous android smartphones.
I'm currently using auto-brightness ("Adapt to lighting conditions") mostly because the screen uses so much power.
Now, when I watch a video in MXPlayer, and turn the brightness to max (well, it's set to play video's at max brightness), the screen doesn't go to max brightness but instead uses the auto-brightness slider settings (as if you are using auto-brightness with slider maxed out).
When I turn off auto-brightness, the max brightness is way way higher.
On my other phones, MXplayer would disable auto-brightness and use the max brightness supported.
Any one know any way to change this?
Thanks

Are there any hacks to change the rules for auto brightness?

My tablet when on auto brightness becomes very dark in unlit rooms and I can barely see it videos or detail.

I am not sure if this works with stock roms, but if you install PhilZ touch recovery from the thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367151
You have options in the advanced menu to change the response time for auto brightness. The default is 1 minute, you will need to tap about 4 times to get it down to 0, as it counts up to 5.
Which sped up the delay from going from one extreme to the other in ambient lighting.
If you install his custom roms you also get options to adjust the brightness intensity in 5 steps while auto brightness is on. I found this out after some time messing with my settings.

Lux Auto Brightness - perfect app for brightness tuning - you can set you own profile - matching desired screen brightness to sensor reading, and the process is very easy.
Short info, taken from app description:
Lux isn't your ordinary brightness app. It intelligently adjusts the brightness of your display based on the environment you're in. If, for example, you step into a dimly lit room, Lux will automatically lower the brightness of your display to make it not only comfortable to read, but to also preserve battery power.
Lux provides the option to automatically adjust the backlight at fixed intervals (periodic mode), when a change in environment is detected (dynamic mode), or when the phone wakes from sleep. It's also possible to adjust the backlight manually. Simply disable automatic mode and you can use it like a traditional brightness tool!
Perhaps the best thing about Lux is that you can teach it how to behave. If the backlight is too bright or dim for your liking, simply open the provided Dashboard, adjust the brightness slider to the level you desire, then hold the link button. Lux will use this new 'link' as a reference in future.
lux and velis both work. i paid for both, but i prefer lux.

Which is the fastest way to change the display brightness of the watch?

I'd like to adjust the screen brightness of the watch *quickly*. When I'm indoors, I'd like to reduce the brightness level to 1 and when I'm outdoors I'd like to increase brightness to 5.
Going through the settings is not very comfortable, a toggle button would be perfect. I use "watchmaker pro" for my watch face. Is it possible to create a button that would do that? I don't want to use anything else then watchmaker for the watch face.
What other options do I have? Could "autowear" or tasker help me?
You can temporary increase brightness to maximum by pressing the button 3 times.
Why don't you use a medium brightness (2 -4) all the time?
I know I can push brightness temporarily, but I don't want to press the button 3 times whenever I want to have a look at my watch in a bright environment.
Medium brightness is often to dark for bright conditions and too bright for dark conditions.
I use SWapp True dark. I simply touch the left edge of the screen, and it toggles from bright to dark and vise versa. It works pretty good.
Sounds very interesting, but it seems the app is discontinued and the current version in the app store is no longer working.
I'm using the current version in the app store, and it works just fine.

How to increase max brightness on power saving mode?

I found that I get better battery life if I keep power saving mode on during my daily use, problem is that it lowers the screen brightness too low sometimes even when slide to max brightness. Is there a way to retain my brightness on normal mode when I am in power saving mode?

You can try lumos brightness manager but you will no longer be able to use the slider in the quick menu.
You may want to try the app "Night Screen" as well.
