Searched around, and find Importing from UK is about $695, shipping included (Handtec or Clove). While Expansys offers $750, Newegg offers $760. The difference is more than $50
So my focus is on warranty. Can we get US warranty when importing from UK?
Is expansys-us's warranty really US warranty or they also send it back to UK? How about Newegg?
Which one would you choose? Can anyone give better offers?
I'm on ATT and have to use it in China so I need the unlocked version
Decisions, please!
I don't know how you're paying, but with Google Checkout, they charged me over $20 for foreign currency, so it comes out to be closer.
Also amazon has a few 3rd party sellers who sell it for cheaper - and offer warranty.
Even if they offered warranty from UK, it would be expensive to ship it.

Didn't go through the whole process, stopped at checkout page and chose shipping to US and see price at 445 pounds. Thanks for the notice for additional fees.
BTW, will there be 8% tax charged when going through custom?
I believe eXpansys do offer warranty but I have no idea how they are doing their warranty. However, based on my experience, I feel safer getting mine from eXpansys mainly because they have an office based here in US and they are well known for their good customer service (at least for me). So I am more comfortable getting it from them. That's just my opinion though

Just found a better deal from Negri, original price $739, additional coupon $35, so only $704. How about warranty from Negri?
Update, looks like Negri needs people to pay at least $715.5, but this price is still okay.

Shouldn't pay any extra tax or anything.
Found someone saying international version will be available on bestbuy at $529 after verizon release?
That will be a huge steal, but is it possible?
If not, I think I will go by expansys next week after they have new stocks

Considering it's also speculated VZ will have a period of exclusivity and I don't believe Best Buy sells international versions - they only sell you phones that the carriers they support sell, I highly doubt it.
it'll be $649-$699 for off contract price, just like all other brand new high end android device.
I bought mine from amazon for $735
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZEF01A/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
They now have it for $643.50 with coupon for a pre-sale price. It's in my basket on holding debating what to do. This is for the Verizon version. I did ask that whether it was the 16 or 32GB since it just says Internal Memory 16/32. I also wanted to know how they would deliver it as it list overnight delivery, which would be a Saturday. However, if you read their fine print on all shipping, it will say, "If you choose Overnight Shipping you are getting a discount price on Second Day Air" and so on.
So, buy it now or wait?
Also, does anyone know how Verizon handles phones that you buy outright? Are you still locked into a 2 year contract? Or, do you pay monthly even if you have an account with them? I always get conflicting answers when I call or go into the stores. Thanks for your help and opinions. I know we all can't wait!

That was for the presales. I got mine from them this weekend for the 704.
Supposedly both expansys and they will send off your phone to the uk for warranty work. Supposedly.

where do you get the $643? Is the verizon unlocked version a world phone? There's no point for an unlocked phone with only cdma/lte
I got mine from Expansys. They will take warranty returns back to ship for you to England for warranty service. That makes it easier than trying to deal with customs your self. (See a lot of warranty discussion in the General Forum, under Expansys USA Now Shipping thread, at (I think):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359169
Also, in the same thread, there are reports that Negri does not offer a warranty. I don't know if true or not.
Remember - buyer beware, and check very carefully! Good luck.
From Negri:
DEFECTIVE ITEMS: A defective item may be returned for repair within 25 days of date of purchase. If an repair is not possible we will offer a refurbished replacement. If this is not available you will be offered a store credit toward a future purchase. If you would prefer a refund (instead of a store credit), you may request a full refund, minus shipping charges. The exchange process typically takes 8-10 days to complete. Every (Non Carrier Branded) device comes with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer. After 25 days our exchange/return policy has expired, you should contact the manufacturer for repair or for warranty replacement or exchange, if your device qualifies for this. Please contact the manufacturer to determine if the device you hold is covered under their warranty. If you would like to send your device to us to send to the manufacturer you are free to do so. Please request an RMA. This will delay the warranty process by 1-2 weeks and you will be charged shipping to and from the manufacturer. You will need the original invoice from us in order to have your item repaired or exchanged by the manufacturer. Warranty varies by manufacturer, but typically warranties are valid for 1 year from purchase. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST request an RMA in order to return any device.
So, it looks like you can send it to Negri, and they'll just send it to the repair center, but charge for shipping. Lame, compared to expansys. Since you might a well just send it to the repair center yourself.
But expansys has branches in many countries, so they probably can help out more.
Yea I work for verizon, and if you purchased your phone outright then its just a simple equipment change, with no contract extention, althought you would need a micro sim for it to work so you might have to go to a verizon store for one of those. I was considering getting a verizon one but because of the google wallet thing and the brand on the back and the unknown battery life with the LTE radio I think I'd rather not, I already ordered my International Gnex from Expansys with the $20 off voucher, so I got it for $729, not a bad deal if you consider the warranty assistance. The $20 off voucher code is 20offls

I would guess the other importers are similar. The device is covered under warranty, but needs to be shipped back to the importer you purchased from and from there back to Samsung UK. At least thats the impression I get, could be wrong.

I believe Samsung does not have international warranty atleast for this phone. If it was released in a particular country, you need to send ti to their repair center in that country for service.
If you buy it from expansys-usa, then you send the phone to them and they will send it to samsung uk for repairs.
warranty is what is definitely keeping me on the sidelines.
i'll wait for the release of the verizon version first and see if any announcements are made regarding a GSM release in the US.
Most likely i'll end up ordering sometime next week.
i hope BB sells the GSM unlocked version soon. i'd rather go through them.
Samsung's policy on grey market electronics is very strict and clear. In order to receive warranty repairs on a covered device it must be:
1) Purchased in its country of intended sale.
2) Purchased from an authorized Samsung reseller.
No international GN purchased in the U.S. has a warranty no matter what the reseller tells you. That includes Negri and Expansys-USA. However, both Negri and Expansys will ship the phone overseas to one of their international affiliates for service on behalf of their U.S. customers. The GSM GN is not sold in the U.S. and, if it is, it's considered by Samsung to be a grey market device. Anyone buying from either Handtec or Clove are covered for two-years since the device would have been purchased in the UK even though it was imported to the U.S.
If an imported GN needs service, you have to ship it to a Samsung repair centre in the UK. Before warranty work is provided they'll ask for a receipt and/or credit card statement showing the purchase from an authorized reseller in GBP. They also maintain a database of serial numbers so they know which devices were sold through which resellers. They've denied claims on plenty of international SGS2's because the above conditions weren't met.
OP, Amazon and NewEgg are your least preferred options as the phone has no warranty what so ever. You can however get a SquareTrade warranty for it because they cover grey market devices. It's about $100 for two-years of coverage with ADH when they have a 30% sale going on.

Show of hands:
How many people have actually used their warranty? Seriously?
I mean, it's nice as a comforting thing, but in 10 years I have never needed a warranty.
Most things that go wrong aren't warranty issues anyway (dead battery, physical/water damage, etc).
It just seems like people are leveraging this as a reason not to buy.
Once you root, it's done with anyway (any warranty, that is).
I don't think you're done with warranty if you root. Or has anyone actually heard not getting support or service because of root? You can also always revert to stock, but I'm thinking if not to although I'm soon sending mine for inspection due to screen issues.
I was instructed by Samsung UK to contact local Samsung for support, but that can be because of all the neat customer rights things here in EU.

From the T&C of my warranties for my UK i9100 and G-Tab:
If the manufacturer refuses to honor their warranty because they consider your item grey market or not purchased from an authorized retailer, we will still cover you.
If your item is used, or doesn't have a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("Other"), then the Service Agreement begins on the 61st day after item purchase and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time.
Also, after you purchase the warranty, you can send in your receipt for verification and to expedite claims processing. They accepted both my UK receipts without question.
You can view the full T&C on their website.

Huh? There's only one warranty. The one provided by Samsung which is based on the country of intended sale. Samsung doesn't sell the GSM GN in the U.S. Any reseller that's selling it here is importing it from overseas. That makes it grey market which means Samsung won't cover it. Samsung USA won't repair it because it's not a product sold here. Samsung UK won't repair it because the Amazon receipt shows it was purchased outside the UK, its intended country of sale. You'll notice that if Amazon is the merchant, all their imported phones say "no warranty." But go ahead, purchase other than from Expansys, Negri, or the UK and see what happens if you need service. A lot of SGS2 owners spun the wheel and learned the hard way.

Then again, i dont want to buy the buy the phone then find out that it has a damaged screen/yellowish screen, non-responsive buttons and crap and have to live with that for the next 2 years. no sir. Ah well, my next assignment is in India in March, maybe I will buy it there, they provide full international warranty. But i so dont want to wait till March.
ps, heres the reply from clove-
Thanks for your email. We cannot guarantee that the warranty is truly international. We do find in most cases that the service centres in different countries will accept the handset for repair, but not always. It does come with a 2 year UK warranty, but as you mentioned, this may not be suitable for yourself.

You're reading something made up by a third-party reseller listing on Amazon. The below link is for a SGS2 fulfilled by Amazon. You'll notice it says "no warranty" in the product title. There's no such thing as an "international warranty." The warranty is what's offered by Samsung which varies based on where the phone is sold.

I don't know what Samsung's warranty policy is for products sold in India. But you better check where an Indian purchased phone can be repaired otherwise, if it's the same policy as the rest of the world, that's where you'll be sending it should it need repair.
I know Samsung USA will not honor international devices however will they repair it for you for a charge if you send it to them?

Someone with an ISGS2 that needed a new display got all the way through the process to the point of it being received by the Samsung repair center in TX. When they got it, they sent it back. Samsung, more than any other manufacturer, does everything they can to make grey market imports distasteful. They are the only phone maker that belongs to AGMA.

Has anyone ever needed to use warranty on their phones? like, are certain defects so common that you need to use the warranty? I am looking to buy the phone from UK for use in new zealand and am worried about the warranty for GN.
I bought two Galaxy Nexus units and discovered that one has a defective speaker.
Anyone know if I can mail it directly to Samsung in the UK and they will mail it back to me here in Canada? I don't mind paying the postage to the UK and get it faster rather than having it forwarded to Samsung through unlocked-mobiles.

I used my warranty on both my Nexus One and Nexus S. I got a replacement N1 from HTC and a new PCBA in my NS from Samsung, both free of charge. Both phones were rooted but re-locked before sending them in.
So what's the consensus on the best option for US buyers? One of the official UK sellers? Canadian?

The SGS2's weak link is the way the USB port is mounted. It can come loose and get pushed up in to the phone. It happened to a couple of people. It's too early to tell if the GN has a common failing. For warranty work, you ship the phone to Samsung in the UK and they repair it and pay shipping back.

If you buy from Expansys-USA or Negri you ship the phone to them in the U.S. and they forward it on to their affiliates overseas for repair. It'll cost less for shipping but will take longer. The warranty is intact if you buy it from the UK.
As for Canada, that's a good question. The phone's not being sold directly there it's being offered via the carriers. If the carrier handles the repairs I don't know what happens when you're not a subscriber and don't have an account with them. I don't know if Samsung Canada will directly repair a carrier branded phone. If they will, Canada's a lot faster and cheaper if the phone needs repair.
Is it possible? i have a friend that should be int the sates on October and i want him to buy it from the AT&T store, but can he buy it without any contract or a sim card?
if not is there any other way? i don't want to buy it directly and ship it to my country cos the taxes here will make the purchase unjustified (will add more the 125$ not including the shipment).
Yes, you can buy any phone that AT&T sales in stores without a contact.....except the iPhone. Currently the off contract of the Captivate Glide is $500 though from AT&T

I bought mine from Amazon Wireless, as phone only (phone upgrade), $ 399, and then unlock with an on-line service ($ 25).
the problem wit amazonwireless for me is that i need to have a US adress, there is a service for that but the charge an arm and a leg.
plus the taxes to import the phone makes it unwise to buy it online. i need to cheack with the customs again, maybe (if buddha will premit) there wont be import taxes on this phone (VAT will probley will be but its low amount).
I live in Europe and went to US in March and a tried to buy this phone in a AT&T Store and it was not possible. Even to buy the phone without contract they require a contract plan. I did buy the phone thru ebay later. I would suggest you the same if you have access to US address.

That makes no sense why does a no contract purchase require a contract??

Do you mind telling us how much you paid without shipping then how much was shipping. Just to give others an idea on what they can get via eBay?

The phone itself has cost $389,99 and international USPS Express shipping was $44,99. This was quite cheap compared to the $600 (+ shipping) on Amazonwireless back then.
Btw. If any German is interested in the taxes I had to pay: It was about 63€ (~19%)
now days the glide cost 400 dollors via amazonwireless and the shiping in the staes is free.
i think i got lucky cos i have a friend that is gona visit is family in the states sooner then expected and he agreed that i will ship this to his family house, and he will bring it to me when he come back. so i can get away from shiping and taxes via customes.
yeah ebay its the only place to buy a phone anymore, altho some pawnshops will cut good deals. seems 300 for a new or refurbished phone on ebay is the going rate & most folks dont mind shipping outa country.
helpslip is there a problem buying from amazonwireless if i ship it in the US?
i can arrange a frined living there to get my package, dont know if he have AT&T service and actualy don't care only want the phone with no contract.
i wouldnt think so altho i have zero 1st hand experience w/ amazonwireless, if its ran the same way as amazon your purchasing from an independent seller sometimes just a dood w/ a garage no different than ebay & ebay now has 30 day buyer protection so they refund price & shipping (& return shipping if needed) if something doesnt arrive or doesnt work etc... ive even been refunded after more than a year for an item that didnt arrive from australia (to usa) altho i keep in contact w/ seller through ebay so they could verify a problem.
damn i sound like a shill for ebay sorry.
now i got confused. i saw that i can buy from amazon wireless an locked phonw with or without a contract and also from amazon.com itself that its seems sells from independet seller (like the market). whoshould i choose? at least i have some time to think about it cos my firned will be in the states in a month from now.
I bought from Amazon Wireless, which is Amazon direct. They will sell you a locked phone without contract.
When I bought it, it used to be wrongly labled as "unlocked" I contacted them and they offered a full refund. Since I'm in the UAE I didn't want that, just an unlock code, to which they said they can't help me with that. So I ended up unlocking from AmericanUnlocker.
I prefer to buy direct, in this case it would be Amazon Wireless, that'll help with returns.
thank incidentflux you made my choice clearer. i will buy it from amazon wireless direct. also the delivery is free and will take 2-3 days to my friend's door.
unfourtuntly it will take a while until i will get it, hope ics will be out by then and if not the inc3ption rom will be a great choise
Glad to help. Yes shipping is free as well. But the smartphone will still be locked to AT&T by the way, which is an inconvenience.
I also ordered the SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC
Did anyone order from Best buy and checkout show a $200 BB gift card included ? The best buy web site shows you get a $100 best buy E - gift card with purchase of pixel or xl. Well when I ordered my black xl with payment plan on a new account the offers came up on checkout one was a $200 gift card and the 2nd option was the $100 gift card. The $200 gift card option listed something about available until 11-13-16 I believe. Any way I picked the $200 gift card I just hope that is what I get just because their web site only lists the $100 e gift at the main purchase pages. Unless the $200 one is a verizon one ?
Any way I ordered the black xl 32 gig model. I wanted 128 gig but bb does not sell the 128 gig. Another odd thing is during checkout verizon required me to port in a number from another carrier ? Maybe that is part of the $200 gift card. Guess I should have taken a screen shot of those offers for my proof so I for sure get the $200 gift card and not the $100 e gift card which is a bb one.
Also odd thing they showed the black xl 32 gig in stock at local best buy stores where the ship options showed 11-2-16 for 2 day shipping and 11-7-16 for free shipping those being expected delivery dates, so they estimated mine for pick up today being ordered today, where verizons web site lists them as being back ordered until 11-9-16 but this bb deal is better with the gift card plus a free chromecast.
So if anyone wanting a good buy check out best buy and chime in if you got a $100 or $200 gift card coming and if you can tell if your gc is a bb or verizon one ? The $200 one listed verizon promotion so hope the $200 is a verizon one and I will add it to my verizon bills lol.

This cool be why you seen the additional 200 applied. Their giving 100 GC for any Verizon phone purchased on device payments...
The $200 gift card is for a new line of Verizon service at Best Buy. It's been going on for a couple weeks. I bought an iPhone 7 in store last week and received it at the time of the purchase. The gift card is for Best Buy, and I was able to use part of it to pay for tax on the phone. The following terms indicate the gift card will be delivered after an online purchase. The $100 would also be a Best Buy gift card, but it would go to Verizon customers that are not getting a new line of service.

I originally tried to order the phone on bestbuy.com and the first way i did it it gave me the option of a $150 gift card then i tried to open a new line on my account and it gave me the option for a $200 gift card..... couldnt get it to work online but went into a store and got my new pixel xl with a $200 gift card....... Last week i dont think the offer is valid anymore though

No actually the $100 best buy e card was the first option, where option # 2 was the $200 gift card. After searching the net I believe the $200 gift card is also best buy one. I wish it was a verizon gift card to pay my verizon bills with lol.

The list the offer for $200 gift card is extended to 11-13-16 I believe but it is still in effect for sure.
I had a not so fun experience with best buy on line order of a black pixel xl 32 gig. I ordered like 6am on saturday morning. The web site listed in stock and for pick up that day so I pulled the trigger. So like 9:12 am est saturday morning I got an email and text both showing the order was ready for pick up. So I made a 35 mile drive to get to the store to pick it up. I was there an hour guy couldnt find the phone then they tell me oh only the free chromecast that came with the order was there lol. I was like wtf your email and text did not list only part of the order was in. So I asked to speak to the sales guys boss and explained hey this was not right I feel that you should be able to give me a gift card for wasting my saturday afternoon and my wasted gas. He said oh I cant do anything. So I said I would like to talk to the store manager and he refused also said he cant just give out gift cards. I said then how about you at least take back the chromecast that I really had no use for and just give me a gift card for its value and he said he couldnt, I think doing that was not being anything but fair and no deal. So I was going to write down his name and he gave me his best buy business card. I said ok I will call customer service about it when I get home.
So I did and the woman looked my order up and she said yeah shes not sure why their web site let me select store pick up when the pixel xl is on back order until 11-7-16 She apologized and said there was nothing she could do on the phone not shipping until 11-7-16, and I said well I just feel like I got the run around and wasted my saturday afternoon and 70 miles of driving gas as 35 miles each way. So she offered me a $50 best buy gift card I was shocked as I was expecting less of a gift card maybe half that. I thanked her and said I felt that was more than fair and I really appreciated it.
The gist of it is best buy at their stores no longer have a 100% customer satisfaction policy anymore, and either cant do anything to make things right or they just plain refuse to, but if you call customer service they are more willing to listen and be fair and make things right, well actually for me they more than made things right which I appreciated what they did to fix the situation.

How did you manage to use it to pay the taxes ? I thought they list you get the card after you activate as in they send it to you ? Or did you purchase out right if that makes any difference as mine is on the payment plan lol
I ordered Saturday ( yesterday ) from Best buy and I just already got the $200 bb gift card emailed to me. I was shocked figured they would wait to send it until after the pixel xl was activated. A nice surprise, the card being a verizon gift card would have been more nice but hey cant look a gift horse in the mouth lol or at least we shouldnt lol. Would be nice if you could use a best buy gift card on your verizon bill and being bb is a verizon dealer they could really do that if they decided to and verizon just credit back bb for it, but yeah that would be having your cake and eating it too lol.
Use it this way
A BB gift card is good for anything BB sells, purchase a visa gift card with the BB card
Problem solved profit.

I bought it on the payment plan, since that was listed in the terms, and the Best Buy outright price is higher. If you buy in store you get the gift card at the time of the phone sale, so they allowed me to use the gift card on the sale. When I returned the iPhone the Best Buy employee only found two stores in my state that listed having the Pixel currently in stock.

Mine had the pixel xl listed in stock but it was wrong and its on back order. I got an email the day after with my $200 best buy gift card. It definitely makes up for the phone being overpriced.
My best buy order of my pixel xl 32 gb that I placed on 6am est saturday the 29th was estimated to be on back order until 11-7-16 then yesterday the 31st I got a ship email from best buy and the UPS tracking showed it actually got picked up. Crazy thing is I didnt pay extra for shipping but they must have given me free overnight shipping because UPS shows its for delivery today so yeah that is one day shipping lol. Very much a nice surprise
I was just curious if anyone was submitting a credit card price protection claim considering the Pixel 3 is now on sale and if you were successful. Any shared experiences would be helpful. I submitted a claim and hoping to get back 200$. This benefit is usually offered through your credit card company. I bought mine with discover.
Just to get this right, you bought a phone, knowing there was a global sale on a set date a few weeks later, where the phone will be reduced for a weekend/week... and you want money back?
In a nutshell...yes... it's called Credit Card Price Protection. A service offered by some major credit card companies in the US such as Discover. Basically if something goes on sale within 90 days after you purchase something, your credit card company can reimburse the difference. The more you know...btw I don't think anyone knew the price would be reduced on this phone based on previous years.
Applying the same tactics used by business and corporations is smart money management. I applaud the OP.
It should work, bank depending.

I just rang Citi (1-866-918-4670) and got $200 reimbursed off the Pixel 3XL and $39 reimbursed off the Pixel Stand (Best Buy). Bought both items from Google on Oct 17th.

I submitted a Citi price rewind request since it falls within the required criteria $200 is $200 so why not.
Hey i submitted one as well. Do you happen to have your screenshots with dates? I submitted mine and it didn't really show a date, so they said it might not be accepted.
Thank you!
