Hi,
I'm on 3.2.4 OOS, rooted, AT&T, xposed, gravity box.
I continue to be disappointed by ongoing issues with wifi strength indoors, gps lock, and maintaining LTE. Inside buildings I'm constantly dropping to H+ when other people maintain LTE on their devices.
My Bluetooth "skips" often in my car streaming on-board music or Spotify.
I've read it may be hardware, may be software. Some of us have issues, some do not.
I tried CM13 and it ate my battery. Others have written it makes no difference, yet some say it has helped them.
What might be some solutions I can try before asking for a new device from One Plus?
Should I drop back to 3.2.2? I had issues then, too, but I wasn't paying enough attention to how bad they were.
Will a custom kernel like elemental make any difference?
I've read about custom radios but don't see any for the OP3.
I'm going to try going without a case to see if they makes a difference but I hate that solution.

custom rom or kernel will not help in radio strength because modem files are independent of them.
Taking the case off seemed to help but when I put the phone in my pocket, it drops LTE and doesn't automatically get it back. Is this something with doze?
Is this just bad design?
Can I modify the modem files?

I have an extremely weak wifi signal, I am only next door (About 1 meter away thru wall) - my laptop, nokia N95, PS3, nokia N97 and iPod have full bars but my phone has only 1.
My HTC Desire has a very low signal and often drops, when it drops I have to disable wifi and re-enable wifi else when its re-scanning it will never find the network.
This problem only occurs when using custom ROM (Currently using MIUI), I've concluded this by installing MIUI, Oxygen, GingerVillian and stock htc. Only in the stock HTC do I get full bars.
I have tested on all with recommended radios and stock radio. HTC ROM has full bars and never drops on all radios but the other ROMs have extremely weak signals even when using the recommended one.
Please help!
Noting the lack of replies on this issue, I'm only guessing that there is no real solution.
I also have found out that I must be on the wifi setting page for my phone to auto re-connect.
hi SMCentral,
found your thread while searching for weak signal cause.
feeding back to your test with different roms, i am on a stock rom (sw 2.29.405.5).
my wifi signal strength was very good last year as far as i remember, but recently suffering from very weak reception. i suspect a bad radio update over OTA. so different stock rom might differ. now i also have to go to wifi page to reconnect probably the signal seems too weak.
-- rajib
PS: Baseband version is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
hope this helps someone to find the cause.
There is an update for the radio here (5.14.05.17). I downloaded the second file since it said it was safer to use. For me it's stable and nothing really happened but people are saying it has improved reception/signal.

I don't have problem with my signals whilst using stock rom but if I use a custom rom with any radio baseband and RIL, I get a very weak wifi signal. Try flashing the latest radio from http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.zip

I'll be trying this. Will feedback with results. Thanks buddy.
No issue for me regarding signal strength....
On a side note: I wish HTC had incorporated the wirless 802.11n standard to their WiFi module in the Desire...that has a far superior range and better bandwidth.
Yeah, if it had n support, it would of been amazing. Totally amazing.

Yup and would have stopped them selling more desire HD's with n capability. Sure it would have been nice if they had included it but that's life in the mobile phone marketing biz
No wait, after some research. HTC has hidden n capability. :O
I've flashed the .zip and well.. it works signal has become stronger too.
Just flashed the new radio , getting mmuc better wifi signal strength
Thankyou xD
You serious? They actually hid it??....that's so fiendish!!

Hello, I know there was a lot of questions like mine, but, I can't compare it in the same time (I mean, comparing wifi strength), I have only one DHD
Which rom has better wifi signal reception? I know that this is more related to radio, not to rom, but, I would like to know, what is your opinion and what are your experiences? I have CyanogenMod 7.0.3 and recommended radio 12.54.60.25P_26.09.04.11_M2, and I think that wifi is a little bit less powerful than on e.g. Android Revolution 5.x and with the same radio, I'm not talking about bars and other indicators, I'm talking about "dBm". Around my house (close to exit doors) I have wifi signal on ARHD, and it was stable signal, and on CM7 I have there signal too, but it's not as stable as on ARHD. What is your opinion about that? Regards
Ei! Logically they influence many variables here ... type of baseband, rom, power of the sign wifi, situation of the issuer and the recipient ... it is a diffuse enough question i think...
because What serves me can that it does not serve you...
it´s only my opinion
+1 on SERGL's answer there. the ROM's are going to be using different kernels and have different methods of distributign power to the wifi chipset. Also you may have noticed Wifi is a strage beast when it comes to signals, the oddest thing can affect it (qualified network technician, don't get me started on wireless algorithms), heck even being in the path of it can affect it.
To answer your Question though in my personal experience they have been very similar, some radios have given me better signal strength than other but at the cost of battery.
Suck it and see...
Hi vBB
Yea.. I agree with both SERGI.3210 and wbbigdave. However, from what I understand that questions like these are pretty subjective. It have tonnes of factors that is almost impossible to be listed here. Lol.
It might not be the ROM and/or Radio etc that caused it to be weak but the telco companies themselves that caused the problem.

yeah mate..i´m with you. there are a lot of variables that make influence in the strenght signal
its a very subjective question, for example im living in a town and my house dates of 1910 more or less!!! The walls have 40 cm of thickness LOL this influences also enough
I just got an S3. Yikes.
Even with a solid Wifi signal streaming is very choppy. On voice calls, this is the first phone I've ever had that drops calls mid conversation from home. And I've had a lot of phones on my three lines over 13 years here. Finally, LTE reception in L.A. is not great which is a problem because the phone takes too long to switch off LTE to 3G so I find that I often have no data connection at all even though solid 3G signal is available.
I tried all kinds of tweaks to make the WiFi work better (static IP, different bandwidths, etc) and nothing worked.
Sprint kept telling me to exchange my handset so I'm on my third one and had the same problem with all three.
I'm running out of time on my 14 days so hoping for some ROM guidance so I don't have to kick the tires with a bunch of ROMs trying to find the best performance. I don't want to feel like a beta tester so please only recommend stable ROMs. Don't really care about anything other features, in fact I kind of like to keep it simple. I just want stability and solid wireless performance.
Thanks in advance.

and believe me its a hit OR miss , reception issues are more than common in Sprint GS3
i have had enough and i will be switching to either a EVO LTE or Note 2.
all the best.

I'll ask the obvious question: Did you update your phone with all the OTAs since it came out of the box?
If not, do this, then compare.
There are pockets in LA that have spotty reception, and you may live/work in an area. For me, I work in Downtown and get solid reception with no dropped calls, even in a building which is a nightmare for all network carriers.. I enjoy the AOSP built ROMS, but they seem to create signal problems with phones. So I suggest staying away from those.
I do recommend MIJJz 4.1.2 ROM which is a Sprint leak of the latest build. My phone seems to get improved reception quality and data signal strength. Up until I switched to MIJJz ROM it would take up to 30 seconds in my work building to get updates on Tweetcaster. Now, I get updates in mere seconds. For example, I've been able to keep up on all the football recruits who have signed with UCLA today, including Kylie FItts signing. Good luck to you.
GO BRUINS!!!
BOOM!!!

The evo lte will be a waste of time cuz its identical hardware to the s3 as far as radios and soc. I do not have the issues that you or op speak of. Streaming videos is hit or miss cuz of the server not the phone or wifi. Maybe it could be router and wifi only in the instance if the video you are streaming is not in a web browser and the router and wifi access point dont like the ports the stream is trying to use and keeps re negiotiating.
I came from the evo lte, I dropped more calls on that than on my gs3.
Download and install the MA4 modem. You will get the best reception out of TW ROMs. I'm on MOAR and it is great. I also have gotten great reception on The Peoples ROM and Darth Stalker. Any of the TW ROMS should be good. I received very poor reception on AOSP ROMs though. Also make sure your PRL and Profile are updated. Most likely it is Sprint and not the phone though. A ROM cant make something out of nothing. I know my area is receiving upgrades and I went from 1 bar always at my house to 3-4 just in the last couple of weeks.

I've never had any issues with reception only on aosp ROMs but I would suggest getting darthstalker ROM and flashing the MA4 kernel it offers the best signal on any ROM I've had and believe me I've flash almost all and above that you get the best battery life and has some pretty good signal and data speed tweaks

I second the MA4 suggestion, you can try the stock or stock+root variant in the development section, I'm getting improved reception and speeds since moving to it.
Also, do some searching for the thread which tells you how to bypass the sprint proxies , that improved my music streaming performance over 3g as well.

Best of luck. I had the evo lte and reception issues through three strait phones over 3 months ended up landing me in a s3

actually on the contrary, my experience has been fantastic with Evo Lte
it never lost the signals and data (3G ) was practically double.
occasional low memory and the fascination of BLACK to be black brought me to s3 .
a couple of my friends also say that their LTEs are way better as far as reception and data speed are concerned.
TBH i am still trying to find a way to not let my s3 lose reception here and there.
Though its pretty new but i guess i might try darthstalker's with ma4 kernel
thanks
I have a ton of phones. I always seem to hit issues with them (lack of developer support, no updates, something non-working, etc).
I want to have at least Android 4.1+ (so falling back to carrier-provided Gingerbread is not something I want to deal with).
Two of my most recent devices are the SGH-T959V (Galaxy S 4G) and SGH-T959 (Galaxy S Vibrant). Issues with those seem to be with the GPS. I've read that it just doesn't work right on the Vibrant, and I know it doesn't work on the S 4G. Falling back to Android 4.0 on the S 4G gets the GPS to work, but then its 2.x kernel has issues sleeping, and I've had issues making calls (I couldn't hear the other person!). The S 4G also has never had an "official" release of CyanogenMod, AOKP, etc. These devices have blown me away with how speedy they seem, but lack of functional software just turns me off.
What about the SGH-T989? Does this phone "just work"? What are the known issues?
in my opinion all SAMSUNG phones have weak GPS chips there is always something extra you have to flash if you are running a custom ROM, the best GPS you will ever get will be staying on a stock device, every phone runs different so you would just have to check for yourself if the GPS is up to par with your standards. i don't use GPS much so i don't really rely on it much but can understand where you are coming from
This phone is quite good in terms of build quality. There are tons of awesome ROMs, mods, etc. for this phone. Cyanogenmod supports it, Aokp supports it. My only problem with it is battery, which, for me only last around 8 - 10 hours. But I am a heavy user, with several email accounts pushing, and games.
I use the GPS from time to time. It picks up the GPS signal usually quite fast. There is also a hack available to speed up the lock on. If I recall correctly, the original stock rom had an issue with the compass orientation, so it will start off weird in the beginning when you use maps, but will self correct after a bit. I have changed so many ROMs, and I don't think I see this issue anymore.
Watch for that sticky power button... It's devastating :what:
But I'd get the sii for sure it's a great phone. Even greater people

My question is about signal strength and/or radio differences among different ROMs.
My EUR G3 is rooted but otherwise stock with 10L. It works almost perfectly for my needs.
Titanium Backup, Greenify, SuperSU, Xposed modules and Nova Prime have delivered a supreme experience so far.
The only thing that worries me is signal strength.
From the beginning (back in July) the signal (all bands) wasn't as strong as I expected to be. At some point I realized that I loose a few calls and then I called Vodafone which acknowledged the problem and provide me a microcell - which has done a terrific job for two rooms in my apartment but not so for the one room away from the device. Needless to say that the battery performs just great cause the G3 has not have to search for a better signal all the time. Outside things are far from perfect: in some places I have very good signal while at others a very bad one. And here comes the question: is there a custom ROM in kitkat or lollipop offering a better radio/signal?
The reason I haven't tested yet is because after a last week's flash I went back to stock with kdz and started from scratch in order to replicate the very good experience: long lasting batter, great SOT, no lag etc while checking the radio performance. Everything is fine once again except the latter. I really don't want to send my G3 to service and risk the current setup & performance and that is why I wonder if I should try some particular ROM or any other available solution.
Any suggestion for a ROM with better signal strength?
