Is this a good upgrade from Nexus 6? - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

For modability sake, is this a good phone to tinker?
My only concern is that the heavily skinned Android on this phone will make it hard to change the DPI. I'm extremely pleased with my Nexus 6, because well.. It's vanilla, and I can do whatever I want with it.
I had bad experience with MIUI before, I have Mi Pad, and Redmi Note 2, they have horrible support.. But hey they're super cheap. I don't know if I'm gonna get the same experience with Mi Max, because the 4gb/128gb sd652 is at least 430 AUD.. which is not cheap for a toy.
I need something bigger than Nexus 6!
I have Mediapad X2 too, which is also too

Buy 4/32 , has better support and lower cost

Size wise, this phone is perfect. Processor is also good with battery lasting forever! For modding, there are some CM based roms but not a lot of developers so getting the latest stuff when you were on the Nexus won't be the same.

Yup true that
But on official developer China ROM I'm getting weekly updates
Not the nougat tho

We have xposed and xposed app settings works so there's no need to worry about the dpi settings. The size is good for daily use.

I'm using MI max and had already set up my dpi to 340. No issues at all. Dpi is to be changed through adb. Very simple.

Which one should I get? Mainly for playing games
If network speed is not a problem because max will not get LTE
Then max is a better device based on battery and screen size.
You should also look at processor scores.

For playing games better go with Mi Max, You will enjoy the additional screen space and 1 or 2 GB more RAM if you go with 3-4GB RAM version, Very Big Battery in Mi Max, it is a good device, you can check the reviews, custom ROM support may be slow on Mi Max but you get every week MIUI updates.

Why do you say Max will not get LTE, I'm using LTE on Max in India.
I don't even think they can be compared... For the same price you get a lot lot more of everything... LTE is not that faster anyway but it's nice to have thought... That's the only drawback for Mi Max used out of Asia...

I have mine running on LTE in Europe and it's fine. It does depend on which band your network use for 4G though.
LTE
Mi Max will not get LTE in the US but it does get HSPA+ which mines run on. I can honestly say HSPA+ is just as fast as LTE in my area. I am coming from the Mate 8 which is fast, have a great battery like the Max, and have a huge 6' screen. Like someone said LTE is supported in others countries but LTE can be overrated sometimes in the US. I am using my Mi Max mostly for gaming, specifically Marvel Contest Of Champions. The Mi Max is my replacement for the 6.4' in Z Ultra that came out a few years back.
Mi Max for sure. It is a great thing beeing able to play for hours without worrying about the battery running out. Also the bigger screen makes the experience that much better. For gaming it's a no brainer.

Which is the best phone for LineageOS 2017?

Nexus is dead, Pixel is nothing (just a Nexus with iPhone price) and Samsung is dead (Exynos/Knox/kernel source), so what is the best phone for LineageOS? I really don't like OnePlus anymore, because for the same price I get a S7 Edge with VR, warrenty and local support (Samsung service point). Car charger for 30 bucks, dash charger, dash cable... f... that!
For now I got a Mi Max Prime (64GB version) and a Mi5s Plus which is just like a 100$ phone compare to firmware support for a highend device (buggy firmware, no real updates, no Xiaomi support (flop)). Don't get me wrong, the hardware is genius (dualsim, 128GB, 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 821, 3800 mAh, QC and for under 400€ with import and shipping) but it feels like the first CM alpha builds from a S3 with Exynos :/
So I need to switch... I looking for a new powerful device with great ROM support, like OnePlus. The battery (SOT) is on the first position, after LineageOS support.
What you think? Switch to the old Nexus 6p, buy a OnePlus 3T (it is the last option for me) or maybe a other phone? A brand new S7 Edge I can get for 400 bucks, a Mi Note 2 for 550 but I really don't care anymore... good battery and official LineageOS is what I need for the future.
I hope you guys can help me.

right now i'm enjoying my Nexus 6p, but if you want something newer the OP3T is your best shot
That is pretty much how i feel with my old LG g3.
Last I checked the Nexus 7 from 2013 had community support well into 2016. So maybe we should all stop placating Google/Oracle in their resource gluttony & update rampaging....
My 2 cents.
What about the Asus Zenfone 3? So far that's the best hardware I've seen for the lowest price. The software is the only thing I don't like about them so much but so far it beats all the other overpriced iPhone comletitors

If a dev like this phone or using this phone now, he'll build it
Change your mi5s plus for mi5
Xiaomi...cheap and great
I am using redmi 2 for over a year now. Couldn't be happier with it
I already got the Mi5 and it was a beast with MIUI but the Mi5 get real firmware support. In 60 days we get 5 (stable) updates and anything works perfect but 5 inch is to small
Its a pain to unlock bootloader but it works...
When I look at the OnePlus 3T: Unlock bootloader in one min., TWRP already official, Kernel source released, based on Android 7.1 official and ROMs like LineageOS already works perfect, without official build.

I think Wileyfox will be a good choice in the near futur. Bootloader unlocking is the easiest I've ever done. They made good price, good quality product, official Cyanogenmod support (but it's over now). They don't make overpriced product like OnePlus or ****ty one like Xiaomi (7 days just to have a code to unlock the bootloader) and Xiaomi have brand new smartphone variant every week. Redmi note, redmi note prime, redmi Pro, redmi note pro.... Hard to follow.
I've bought a wileyfox Swift 2 at 189€ - 30€ = 159€ on the official website after broke my OnePlus 1 screen. I find it's better than my OP1 except for the photography and for the rom support.
I've got before a moto g (peregrine + falcon) ZTE open C, Fx0, oneplus 1, Redmi note 4 sold 2 weeks after receive it. And wileyfox is one one the best quality/price I've ever had just after the Fx0.
not the "best" only "best fit"
Hi,
why not the ZTE Axon 7 (snapdragon 820, >=4Gb RAM; back fingerprint, usb-c + QC, Amoled; good photograph) ?

I have now a Xiaomi MI4 but for sure a Zaxon 7 is a good choice

Fast and smoothly Rom for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Hello! I'm looking for a Rom for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The Rom should be fast and stable (no beta or nightly). I do not need heaps of features! I just want a little and fast rom.
Please do not recommend the Epic Rom to me. This Rom is very slow and does not run smoothly.
Thank you!
You will not find it amongst custom ROMs.

You obviously did not set kernal to permissive on Epic!! If you had, you would know it then runs buttery smooth!! You really shouldn't bad mouth someones development when you dont read or understand whats being said numerous times within their forums. I run Epic and have for a very long time. Set to permissive and all is good. Good luck.
I use aicp. I use it for two weeks now. It is very very stable. Very good battery as well and it is fast. No show downs what so ever.

Come on man, I just have my my mix 2 a week, global stock rom, no root and I must say, this thing is Smooth, I don't game but everything I trow at it it handles fine.
The mi mix 2 se has the same CPU as the oneplus? I would buy that one then.

If you have mi mix 2, its a waste of money to change to OP6. The performance of 845 in comp with 835 its not so big and you wont feel it in daily use.
Its worth the trade only if you want better camera/amoled, but even in that case, you have better options.

Yeah that's definitely Oneplus fanboyism talking up here.. I have owned a OP3 and never getting another Oneplus product. Had some issues and their support is just horrendous.
Xiaomi offers way better value for your money now that Oneplus is almost as expensive as a galaxy.

I'm completely done with Oneplus personally
They claim to be a "small company" and to listen to their users (which they really don't). They are just BBK's electronics marketing machine. They are becoming the Oppo for the west.
The time were Oneplus was really for tech enthusiasts is gone now.

Is Mi Max 1 worth buying in 2018? or is there any better alternatives?

Hello everyone, I need your opinion and help
TLDR I need phone with big screen and good performance, is Mi Max 1 still worth buying in 2018?
Long Story
I need device with big screen and good performance vs price. After long searching, going back and forth in tablet or phablet
I found that Mi Max is one of the best contender, with old but strong SD 650 and humongous 6.5" screen.
There's Redmi Note 5 Pro with 5.99" screen, better performance but I already have Mi 6 with 5.2" display, the display difference isn't that much, so I think there's no point having Note 5 Pro.
on the other hand, Mi Max 2 is good but weak, and Mi Max 3 is beast but too expensive.
On the good side, Mi Max is big, cheap, and good performance and rich XDA community. There's less to no bug on each new developed ROMs, right? as Zenfone 2 user I'm jelly haha :silly:
On the down side, it's 2yrs old already, still use micro USB.
I find it difficult to find another device that can beat this proposition but I'm open to any new suggestions.
I'm thinking of buying the 3/32 variant around $124
I'm gonna use this phone for multimedia, little bit of gaming (PUBG, Vainglory etc), and probably as car HUD.
So, what do you think? is it still worth it? Is there any other alternatives?
Thanks in advance
A.f.a.I.c. there are no better alternatives yet. First of all, screen size and ratio is most important for me. All phablets have that ugly notch these days and no dedicated hardware buttons. I've been looking at the Mi Max 3, but found out it has no coloured LED notification light (how stupid is that?). Huawei Honor Note 10 may be an option, but don't like the EMUI shell.
What's wrong with micro USB? You could use one of these if you don't like the micro USB connector, a lot cheaper than buying a new phone
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RAXFLY-Mic...1b:m:m7hqOpyZpTqJRBibCHhC9_A&var=601537300954
The Mi Max 3 has much better camera but the CPU is not very fast, does not have NFC (AGAIN) and no LED colour notifications. I wouldn't but the 3/32, get a deal for the 652 ones or wait till something better comes our way.
maybe LG V20 ?
I just bought a LG V20 on aliexpress because it s shock proof, has removable battery, better camera and better performance (but smaller screen) than mi max 1.
I believe there ll be promotions next week on aliexpress and you ll be able to find them for less than 140E (so more expensive than the mi max 1 ... but maybe you ll be able to find them cheaper elsewhere ... I am in France and they have not be sold here so it was kind of logical for me to import it ... )

I would not buy the snapdragon 650 variant, maybe the one with 652 (3gb/64gb or 4gb/128gb). But just save up for the mi max 3. It is only $250, similar to the new price of the mi max 1.

I have the 650 variant, and it is a bit slow and youtube 2x speed freezes at 720p60fps or higher.
If your S650 device is having issues with 720p YouTube content then it is purely your private issue. I own Mi Max 1 3/32 for 2 years now and never had a lag/spike during watching any videos. This goes for YouTube, Twitch and many other services.
And now to the topic:
After 2 years I'm still able to get 3-4 days up with 9h sot (it used to be 10h+). Device is fast. Heck, I'm using miui 10 right now with CPU governor set to powersafe and battery optimization turned on - no lags at all. Modded gcam improves photos a lot. If you can get this phone really cheap then go for it. If you do not need such phone right now then do the same thing I'll do - wait until November sales (11.11 if I'm not mistaken) - most phones get their prices cut down a bit by then - and buy a Mi Max 3 (6.9 inches with same phone size will be great for media consumption). I used to change phones every 4-6 months. Mi Max is first phone I own for such a long time because there is simply no competition for this price.
No problems here with youtube or Twitch. I have the 652 variant, though.

I agreed, no better alternatives yet for this such price vs display vs performance, and ofc notches be gone lol.
I have no prob with colorless LED Notification tho'
Honor Note 10 price rn is $510 for 4/64, that's crazy. Also I don't want to do the same mistake with Huawei/Kirin like I did with Asus/Intel. I would love to have stable custom ROM for once lol.
MicroUSB is just me being nitpicky hahaha, I don't have anything against MicroUSB tho, since most of my gadget still use it.
I also looking for that particular acc but Xiaomi Mi6 isn't compatible with magnetic adapter..meh..too bad (CMIIW)

How about the SD 652 compability for custom ROMs? and also I read SD 652 consume battery lot more and over heat more than SD 650
here's the article https://www.techcenturion.com/snapdragon-625-vs-650-vs-652
And what about normal speed? does it struggle too at 60fps?
$250 is twice the budget I have right now for Max1 lol

Beta MIUI 10? Even my Mi6 didn't get official stable MIUI 10 yet lol
3-3days up? sounds promising hahaha
I'm thinking of putting Ressurection Remix in Mi Max tho' and I'd like to try gcam mod
The price rn still stable at $124
True, Max 3 have nearly identical physical size of Max 1. But the price is still outrageous (but it's a new new device ofc), I checked it's around $270 in here, price cut won't do them much justice.
I might not need such device urgently but I'm itching to buy one lol

Yea, MIUI 10 from Xiaomi.eu - most of Xiaomi phones got their builds there, you might wanna check it out. I had to switch back again to RR 5.8.5 due to WiFi drain for me on MIUI 10. $124 is a pretty good price for Mi Max. I'd go for it. Or just like I said before - wait until 11.11 (but I wouldn't expect for price to drop that much on Mi Max 1). After doing more research I think I'm gonna wait for some other phone to show up for upgrade, so looks like 1 more year with Mi Max for me . Mi Max 3 is not really an upgrade if you take a look on that closely (battery feels even worse). Who knows, maybe Xiaomi sub-brand POCOPHONE will show up with something interesing (F1 already looks promissing, but there is no IR blaster for remote nor NFC for payments, so already too much to give up).

Redmi Note 7 Pro vs Mi Mix 2

Which one whould you chose and why ?
I don't care about camera, i care about performance, battery and dev support.
Thank you
In performance MIX 2 is Better a little. The battery I don't know, I saw video that the MI9 is better with smaller battery, so I think the Redmi Note 7 Pro is not much better than MIX 2. Software updates... Newer is better. But I would buy the MIX 2. becouse it has much more LTE support, and the body quality is much better. Plus the MIX2 has UFS 2.1 memory, what is much faster than the Note 7 pro's EMMC 5.1 ROM.

(Mix 2) I don't like the battery... i get 4-4.5h SOT with 4G all the time and hotspot using facebook, twitter, instagram & little games like brawl stars.
The performance it's very good, i choose Mix 2.
Mix 2 will receive Android p and will stop at it., Note 7 will get Android Q... Good that there are custom roms

get a mix2s instead, they are pretty cheap
Unless u r a heavy game player, the Rm note 7 pro is a better choice. 4000mhA battery with sd 675 will give u a great battery life. Mix2's 3500mhA and sd 835 is a wise combination too. But the newer Mi device has a better official suppose. Especially the Mi device after Mix2s.
