Hello
I've been considering purchasing the Asian Variant made in Taiwan for use within Australia.
Is there any difference to this version vs any other version sold?
Is it compatible for use in Australia.
Thank you for your input.

which carrier? on vodafone you should be alright.
Just check it has LTE. Otherwise, it'll be fine.
Xiaomi have released Redmi Note 5 in Taiwan with more LTE band support than global variant.
TW Specs from : http://www.mi.com/tw/redmi-note-5/specs/
Taiwan model:
Code:
4G:FDD-LTE B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28
TDD-LTE B38/B40
Global model:
Code:
4G: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B20
TDD-LTE B38/B40
Many markets worldwide apart from Taiwan make use of the extra B28 (700Mhz) - Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Japan, France. There are probably more I have left out. Its basically our equivalent of B20 which gives us better rural coverage and better building penetration.
I have looked everywhere including Aliexpress and they aren't selling this model. Can anyone find it anywhere other than Xiaomi Taiwan site?
I have read:
This Band 28(700Mhz) is scheduled to begin in 2020 for mobile (5G broadband services)
That might be true in your country, its been in other places for years. Since 2014 in Australia. I think its delayed in Europe due to terrestrial TV using that frequency, ours was switched off years ago.
ok,thanks for the info
It is also used in Nigeria by a network known as Glo. LTE band 28(700) travels very far and has better in-building penetration than most LTE bands.
By the way, I've also checked Aliexpress for the variant of redmi note 5 that support band 28, and it's not available yet. I don't think I can wait for it any longer. I'll have to settle for the Global variant.
where did you get the band list for the Global version from? pdadb so far has always been accurate on the supported bands and it lists Band 28 as included for the Global version:
http://phonedb.net/index.php?m=devi...e_64gb_meg7s___xiaomi_whyred&d=detailed_specs
@celoxocis Seems to differ from this one https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-redmi-note-5 Doesn't list B28
@lukesan
kimovil has been wrong in the past.
I used to import US version phones and always used pdadb for proper (required) bands. Where all other sites would list missing bands pdadb would list all complete bands. So I see pdadb as trustworthy and professional sites who check the phones specifications for accuracy.
@celoxocis https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9120#hong-kong,*,* another one that doesn't show B28 BUT the Taiwan version shows B28
This is all getting confusing. On all Aliexpress sellers I don't see B28, only the very much used B20 in Europe. Looking for the Taiwan version on Aliexpress seems to not show anything.
@lukesan
gsmarena never lists proper bands. it misses half the bands of my axon 7 us version (pdadb lists the proper bands). never go to gsmarena to check for bands. aliexpress only sells Chinese versions with global ROM anyway. don't go there or they will trick you to buy one of those.
I contacted aliexpress sellers that are selling global model, they said no B28. So far only place I have found is a eBay seller from Taiwan but its overpriced so not buying yet: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Red...hash=item1cac64e701:m:mUYSnnhRa49uuBF-7QnmBSw
Did anyone find a place? I am still looking around for this.
Not sure if it will be any help for you, but I just bought this one off of Amazon.ca - https://www.amazon.ca/Xiaomi-Unlocked-Global-Version-4-64GB/dp/B07D82MTZL/ - and it has band 28.
I bought a couple of this guy from Taiwan ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/123151713017 so I can confirm that the seller is good. Good communication answered all my questions, and he packaged everything securely inside a DHL box. The boxes inside were still shrink wrapped as I expect they would come from Xiaomi.
It may be a bit overpriced though as said here for some reason nobody else is putting the Taiwanese version up.

FYI the list price for that version in Taiwan is TWD 8,000, or about AUD 355, so the mark-up is about 23%.
(438/355-1)*100 ~= 23.3803

This Amazon.ca listing has the RN5 with Band 28. Both resellers (Maple Mountain Imports and JP Mobiles CA) sell the same version of the phone, and fulfilment is by Amazon. I am not sure how useful this is to anyone not in Canada, but I figured I'd mention it here for anyone who is still looking for some place besides eBay. I received mine today (2 day shipping) and the phone is new in shrinkwrap, etc.
I also purchased one from the Ebay seller as mentioned by tya99. I will also add that it was packed as described and arrived in my hand in Australia in only two days from ordering. Very happy with it.
In France, some operator already use B28, since more than 1 year ago
It is for this same reason (LTE band 28) that I wanted to buy redmi note 5 special edition. Now there is a redmi note 5 with LTE band 28 that nobody knows where to buy it from. It's a pity Xiaomi doesn't care to make it popular.
In Nigeria (the most populus country in Africa) that LTE band 28 is in hot demand used by GSM network called globacom.
I want to get that but might have to settle for global or China redmi note 5 as I have already purchased MiFi modem with LTE band 28.
I'M still in love with my old Samsung note 4 screen and camera, I don't know if redmi note 5 screen will be close to it but at some point I have to upgrade.

This Taiwanese version has also been released in Mexico, and possibly in Chile and Bolivia. I bought mine in Mercadolivre (auction-site-turned-marketplace just like eBay), from someone who imported it from Mexico to Brazil. If you have some sort of communication channel to a seller, you can ask them directly for the model number printed on the back side of the box: the regular "Global" model is model M1803E7SG, while the Taiwanese/Mexican model with B28 support is M1803E7SH.
If I buy the sm-g9860, does it come with an unlocked bootloader since its the latin/hk version of the snapdragon model?
I'm looking to know the same thing too. Looking to import to the UK.

Yes, the bootloader is unlocked however the SM-G9860 is manufactured in Hong Kong only, not Latin American and the CSC is TGY.
Historically samsung sd variants bootloader is locked. Exynos is easier to unlock.
Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk
All Chinese mainland (CHC), Hong Kong (TGY) and Taiwan (BRI) (ending with 0, G9810/G9860/G9880) models are confirmed to be BL-unlockable. All Korean (ending with N, G981N/G986N/G988N) models (this year Korean ones got Snapdragon) are also confirmed to be BL-unlockable. Plus, they are all 5G-NSA/SA-capable with 12G RAM (rather than 4G models' 8G) and wide-range bands support. Japanese models (starting with SC-) use Snapdragon but I am not sure if its BL is unlockable. (90% confidence that it is unlockable, though.)
Actually BL unlock has nothing to do with processor. It is definitely possible for Samsung to lock down Exynos models. Plus, all Chinese models since S7 or S8 use Snapdragon while being BL-unlockable.
The problem is the two big greedy (and powerful) carriers in US, namely Verizon and ATT. Just look at last year's S10 5G Sprint special version. Its BL is unlockable.
Hi ,
Is there anyway to force carrier aggregation on the s20 ultra. I currently own the Samsung s20 ultra sm-g9880 snapdragon (Taiwan version , CSC BRI) I changed the CSC to Hong Kong (TGY) to enable 5g , as the Hong Kong firmware has it enabled (Taiwan hasn't enabled it yet , only 4g and they don't have 5g in that country till end of year) but I noticed on the Hong Kong firmware and CSC there's less carrier aggregation , so specifically for me band 28 (700) doesn't pair with other bands like it did on the Taiwan firmware, so it's mostly 4g not 4g+ on the Hong Kong CSC and much slower speeds. It's weird because band 28 is supported by Hong Kong firmware but only uses that band by itself not with other bands for faster speeds. This is particularly important for me in Australia.
Anyway to force this to happen without rooting the thing or should I just save myself the trouble , revert back to Taiwan CSC where 4g pairs and works perfectly just no 5g ?

Personally think that 5G is just increasing power consumption, and 4G bandwidth is enough to meet today's network usage

I think you're right. I'm actually getting better speeds on 4g, and I think I'll turn off 5g, and put the battery savings towards 120hz! Lol. 120 is required for me now, it just looks too good.

What country and carrier are you using in?
Hi, i'm about to buy online an S20FE 5g (preferably an 8GB), and i was wondering about the differences between different versions; i don't know what should i buy to use in Europe.
I could not find a comprehensive list, so i thought i could just post what i know; the more info you can share, the most complete the list will be.
SM-G781B (International)
SM-G781U (USA)
operator locked, should not buy for Europe
SM-G781U1 (USA Unlocked)
not a real dual sim (as stated here)
SM-G781W (Canada)
SM-G7810 (China, Hong Kong)
for this version there's a 8/128 model (is it good to use in Europe? they seems to come at a cheap price)
SM-G781N (Korea)
SM-G781V (Verizon)
Also, the /DS stands for "dual-sim hybrid tray" i suppose, based on this evidence
Based on this, frequencies support should be the same for models SM-G781B (International), SM-G781N (Korea), SM-G781U (USA), SM-G781V (Verizon):
GSM frequencies
850 900 1800 1900
Standard UMTS
850 900 1900 2100
Standard LTE
FDD LTE: 2600, 2100, 1900, 1800, 1700, 900, 850, 800, 700
TDD LTE: 2600, 2500, 2300, 1900
Standard 5G
FDD 5G: 1900, 1700, 850, 600
TDD 5G: 2500
The one listed on Bestbuy is SM-G781UZBMXAA. Can I use that outside of US, in Asia perhaps?
I got SM-G7810 , I am from Poland and it works just fine. Bought it from my local phone store with their warranty. Got it much cheaper. Works ok, no problems.
Just waiting for android 11, looks like HK is less important to Korean company then Europe

Got the same phone delivered since a day in the Netherlands. Works fine, every language possible to choose, works fine on the networks etc.
I'm just trying to find a way to flash a ROM with another CSC to try to enable THL ( Thailand CSC) as to make phone-recording possible. Seems not easy to get rid of the Hong Kong CSC.
Even with some 'CSC change tricks' I don't get any further than to choose for TGY as the only one in the list.
